A MESSAGE FROM MRS REBECCA MATTHEWS Since our last newsletter, the college has been a buzz with creativity! Rehearsals for our school musical ramped up with such enthusiasm and dedication. Staff and students across year levels worked exceptionally hard in music & drama. Our technical crew sessions helped to bring this year’s production to life. Our talented musical staff and student leaders focused on vocal technique, ensemble balance, and stage presence, while the technical team developed lighting, sound, and set designs that enhanced the storytelling. We are grateful for the commitment shown by our students and the support of families in encouraging regular attendance at rehearsals. A massive shout out to our creative and dedicated staff who went above and beyond to see the musical come to life for our community. What an achievement! Book Week was also an incredible way to bring our school community together for a lighthearted and joyful occasion. It was wonderful to see students and staff alike embracing the spirit of the week, sharing favourite stories and celebrating the power of reading in our daily lives. A special thank you to the families who supported their students in pulling together outfits for the occasion. Your willingness to participate and encourage your young people made the day even more meaningful and helped foster a real sense of belonging and shared celebration across our school. As a Christian community, we believe that stories matter because they reflect God’s creativity and the unique ways He has shaped each of us. In celebrating Book Week, we not only honour literature, but also the gift of imagination and truth that God has given us to explore and share. Continued over page...
Another focal community event on our horizon is our End of Year Celebration Evening. Families are urged to calendarise Tuesday, 1st December. This event is an opportunity to bring thanks for the year, celebrate learning and community and to honour our Year 12 students as they officially complete their secondary school education. In keeping with our Christian identity, this evening will be a time to give thanks to God for His faithfulness over the year, to celebrate the growth He has nurtured in our students and to commission our Year 12 cohort as they step into the next chapter of their journey with courage and hope. Moments like these remind us that our school is more than a place of learning, it is a community where stories are valued, creativity is encouraged and we grow together in joy, faith and purpose.

R U OK? DAY CHOOSING CONNECTION The second Thursday of September marks R U OK? Day—a national day that reminds us of the importance of slowing down, noticing those around us, and asking a simple but powerful question: "Are you OK?" Students, staff and the wider community are invited to wear a 'splash of yellow' on this day - this could be yellow socks, a yellow ribbon in hair, a yellow tie etc. The goal is to remind our community that checking in on one another matters every day. At Northside Christian College, we believe every person is created in the image of God, deeply loved by Him, and designed to belong in community. As a College, we want to continue building a culture where students know they are seen, valued, and safe to share both their joys and their struggles. R U OK? Day provides a wonderful opportunity for families to intentionally connect with their children. Taking time to ask how they are really going, listening with empathy, and reminding them that they are loved by both their family and by God can have a lasting impact. Often, the greatest gift we can offer is our presence—listening without rushing to solve every problem and creating space for honest conversation. As followers of Christ, we are called to "carry each other's burdens" (Galatians 6:2) and to encourage one another with love, compassion, and grace. May R U OK? Day be more than a single event on the calendar; may it remind us to intentionally choose connection every day, reflecting the heart of Jesus in our homes, our College, and our wider community.

ELEVATE EDUCATION Dear Parents/Carers of Year 11 and 12 Students, I hope that you are doing well and successfully navigating both your own busy lives and the busy lives of your child/ren. You have a job with many challenges and we are here to support you. This update is just for you, our VCE parents/carers. In particular it is for those of you who have at least one child undertaking a Unit 3/4 VCE Subject and who is undertaking exams this year. Over many years we have used Elevate Education as an incursion resource to help students learn strategies to manage their time and study effectively. For the past three years we have also brought in Elevate through one of their 'branches' called Connect Education to help students revise for their end-of year VCE external exams. These have also been very helpful and will continue again during the September holidays. Elevate has a series of lectures online just for parents! This series of webinars is all about how you can support your students in Year 11 and 12 who are going through the exams and other stresses of VCE years. These webinars will help give you some 'tools' to help support them on this very important aspect of their journey. If you are interested in joining a webinar please see this link: https://go.elevateeducation.com/auparentwebinars Please let me know if you attend one of the seminars and find it helpful. And, as always, if you have any questions concerning your child's progress, please do not hesitate to contact me. We are here to support you. Have a wonderful Friday,
Mrs Lenna Waters Head of VCE and Student Pathways
COLLEGE UNIFORM UPDATE WARDROBE SUITE
The new approach to our uniforms is to have a “Wardrobe Suite”. This means that on cooler days, students can wear warmer uniform pieces, and on warmer days students can wear lighter uniform pieces, irrespective of the time of year. Alongside this, families have received an updated Uniform Policy and a visual Uniform Wardrobe Guide to support clear expectations. As you consider uniform options, please be reminded that the Sport uniform can only be worn on allocated Sport days. Please be advised that the new shirt with the black piping is for girls only.
If you are buying a boy’s shirt, please ensure there is no black piping.
NEW GUIDE AVAILABLE Further details, including key expectations and visual examples, can be found by clicking below: UNIFORM POLICY UNIFORM WARDROBE GUIDE
NOW AVAILABLE ON SCHOOLTV - ADHD Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental condition that affects how children regulate attention, impulses and activity levels. While many children can appear restless, distracted or forgetful at times, ADHD involves ongoing patterns that may impact learning, behaviour, organisation and relationships. These challenges can sometimes lead to frustration at home and school, particularly when a child is trying hard but struggling to meet expectations. For families, understanding ADHD means recognising that these behaviours are not simply a matter of effort or discipline. ADHD is influenced by a combination of neurological, biological and environmental factors that affect how a child’s brain processes information and manages self-control. With the right support, structure and strategies, children with ADHD can develop the skills they need to succeed and thrive. This edition of SchoolTV explores how families can better understand ADHD and support children to build confidence, strengthen emotional regulation and navigate everyday challenges more successfully. In today's world, where distractions are abundant and the pressure to excel is high, guiding children to develop healthy study habits is more important than ever. As students aspire to achieve academic success, the cornerstone of that achievement lies not just in their intelligence or drive, but in the study habits they cultivate. It's essential for students to recognise that good study habits aren't merely about spending extra hours hitting the books. It's more about quality over quantity and having a more balanced approach. Emphasising the value of a routine is essential. Consistent study times establish a sense of structure and discipline, turning studying into a natural part of their daily routine rather than a burdensome task. Additionally, how students approach their study sessions is equally important. Taking regular breaks is a crucial part of this process in maintaining focus and preventing burnout. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes sufficient sleep, a balanced diet, and consistent physical activity are indispensable elements that will significantly impact your child's ability to study effectively. Fostering these healthy habits is one of the most valuable gifts we can offer children, paving the way for a lifetime of learning and achievement. This Special Report will help you support your young person as they embark on studying for exams.
