watched their businesses take shape, evolve, and find their place in this community. There’s trust there, and I don’t take that lightly
What we have today didn’t come from one big moment It came from a lot of small ones stacked on top of each other. Long days. Late nights. A few missteps along the way. A lot of learning as we went. And through all of it, the core has stayed the same. This has always been about people.
It’s about the conversations in the aisles The time spent around camp The shared excitement when someone finds something new or finally meets someone they’ve followed for years. It’s about feeling like you’re part of something that’s real.
As we look ahead, there’s a sense that we’re stepping into something bigger Not in a way that changes what this is, but in a way that gives it more room to breathe More space for people More opportunities to connect. More ways to keep building what’s already here.

If you’ve been with us from the beginning, you’ve seen it happen If you’re newer to it, you’re stepping into something that’s been shaped by a lot of people who care deeply about it None of this exists without you.
To everyone who has attended, supported, exhibited, partnered, volunteered, or simply spread the word, to my family and those who are no longer with us; thank you You’ve helped turn a small idea into something that means a lot to a lot of people And to the friends I’ve made along the way, thank you for being part of it. That’s the part I carry with me the most.
We’ve come a long way from that first gathering.
And we’re not done yet

Large-Format Expedition Vehicles Are Showing Up Big at MOORE Expo
BY CINDY POPE
PHOTOS SUPPLIED BY STORYTELLER/GVX, 27NORTH AND WANDERBOX
Walk through MOORE Expo this year and you’ll notice something subtle but significant. It’s not just that the rigs are getting bigger it’s that the intention behind them is different The weekend builds are still here, and they always will be, but alongside them is a growing presence of vehicles designed for something more enduring Longer trips. Deeper travel. A different relationship with time, distance, and infrastructure
That shift isn’t theoretical it’s showing up clearly in both the vehicles and the people building them.
From Weekend Trips to True Off-Grid Living
At the heart of this evolution is a change in how people want to travel What used to center around quick escapes and tightly packed itineraries is stretching into longer, more self-reliant experiences
“We’re seeing a shift from short trips to true off-grid living,” says Steve Kruse, V.P. of Operations at Storyteller Overland and GXV. “People want to stay out longer, go farther, and rely less on infrastructure”
That desire is driving the development of platforms like GXV’s Epic, which is built as a fully integrated system capable of supporting extended time off-grid These aren’t just campers with added capacity they are designed from the ground up to function independently, with robust power systems, water storage, and durability that holds up under real-world use

That same philosophy shows up in the work coming out of Storyteller and GXV “For us, it’s intentional design,” Kruse says “Every system has to work in the real world and be easy to live with.” Whether it’s a van, a HILT platform, or a full expedition truck, the focus remains on usability and reliability, not just capability on paper.
This approach is also enabling more flexibility Wanderbox, for example, emphasizes modular construction and tailored layouts that allow each build to adapt to specific expedition goals, while still maintaining durability in extreme environments. The result is a vehicle that feels purpose-built, not overbuilt

That middle ground is where platforms like the 27North VOG and the Winston Class B+ are finding their stride “The VOG has found its audience overlanders and full-time travelers who’ve outgrown weekend-warrior rigs and want something that performs as well on a forest service road as it does pulling into a city,” Bosovik explains

Another defining characteristic of this moment is the buyer Today’s overlander isn’t just browsing they’re arriving informed, with a clear understanding of what they need
“Buyers are showing up to events like MOORE Expo already deep in the research phase,” Bosovik says. “They’re talking solar arrays, water capacity, and terrain capability before they’ve even stepped inside.” That level of engagement has raised the baseline across the industry. “Self-sufficiency is now expected,” Kruse notes. “Strong electrical systems, water capacity, and true off-grid capability are baseline across all platforms.” What used to be considered premium is now simply the starting point
At the same time, expectations around comfort have evolved. This isn’t about excess or luxury layered on top of capability It’s about thoughtful design spaces that support recovery, rest, and livability after long days outside “We’re seeing a move toward thoughtful comfort,” Kruse says. “Not excess, but spaces that feel right after long days outside”
Alongside these changes in design and expectation is a shift in scale More travelers are thinking beyond regional trips and planning for extended, even international, journeys.

In a landscape that’s becoming more nuanced and more technical, events like MOORE Expo serve an important role. They provide a space where all of these ideas, platforms, and people come together in a way that can’t be replicated online. “It’s one thing to read about these vehicles,” Kruse says “It’s another to step through them in person and immediately understand the differences”
That ability to compare platforms side by side vans, B+ builds, and full expedition trucks gives attendees a clearer sense of what aligns with their own goals More importantly, it opens the door for real conversations. “There’s also a strong sense of community at events like MOORE,” Kruse says “It’s not just about the vehicles it’s about shared experience.”
The growing presence of large-format expedition vehicles at MOORE isn’t about replacing one style of overlanding with another. It’s about expanding what’s possible
From modular, system-driven builds like Wanderbox to integrated vans like the VOG, to full-scale expedition trucks like the TR27 and GXV Epic, the range of options reflects a community that is diversifying, maturing, and pushing further.

BY AARON PARIS, SWITCHBACK OUTDOOR SAFETY
In the rapidly growing world of overlanding, off-road recreation, and professional vehicle recovery, one organization continues to stand out as the gold standard for training and certification: the International Four-Wheel Drive Trainers Association (I4WDTA) As more individuals, agencies, and companies venture beyond paved roads, the need for structured, safety-focused education has never been greater. I4WDTA exists to meet that need bringing consistency, professionalism, and credibility to the offroad industry
The International Four-Wheel Drive Trainers Association (I4WDTA) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and promoting safe, environmentally responsible four- wheel-drive training Founded by industry leaders and educators, the organization provides a structured framework for instructor development, curriculum standards, and best practices in off- highway vehicle operation
Without formal training, even experienced drivers can develop unsafe habits. I4WDTA addresses this gap by emphasizing:
Risk management
Vehicle dynamics
Terrain assessment
Proper recovery techniques
Environmental stewardship
For organizations managing fleets or remote operations, this structured approach is especially valuable from both a safety and liability perspective.

Perhaps the most powerful aspect of I4WDTA is its train-the-trainer model Rather than simply producing capable drivers, the organization develops instructors who can multiply the impact within their own organizations and communities
Instructors who have passed the test for certification are equipped to:
Deliver standardized curriculum
Evaluate driver competency
Build internal training programs
Support fleet safety initiatives
Promote a culture of professional off-road operations
This scalable approach is one reason I4WDTA continues to expand its influence worldwide.
As overlanding grows in popularity and more industries operate in remote environments, the demand for structured off-road competency will only increase Insurance carriers, corporate risk teams, and government agencies are placing greater scrutiny on driver qualificationanddocumentedtraining
OrganizationsalignedwithI4WDTAarewellpositionedto meettheseexpectations
The future of off-road travel is not just about capability it isaboutcompetence, consistency, andsafetydiscipline

While many associate off-road training with recreation, I4WDTA instructors are widely involved in professional settings, including:
Unlike informal trail experience or recreational knowhow, I4WDTA focuses on repeatable, defensible training standards applied across recreational, commercial, and governmental environments
Utility and energy companies
Forestry and land management agencies
Mining and construction operations
Search and rescue teams
Military and government fleets
Corporate risk and safety programs
Organizations value I4WDTA because the curriculum supports:
Documented competency
Defensible training records
Reduced incident exposure
Improved vehicle longevity
Stronger safety culture
For safety leaders and risk managers, the certified trainers align well with broader occupational safety systems.
Off-road driving is often perceived as intuitive or experience-based In reality, it involves significant risk factors:
Vehicle rollover potential
Recovery system failures
Environmental damage
Remote-area incident management
Human factors and decision-making
One of I4WDTA’s defining principles is responsible land use Training emphasizes:
Tread Lightly–aligned practices
Trail preservation
Minimizing vehicle impact
Proper route selection
Ethical recovery methods
This focus ensures that increased access to off-highway travel does not come at the expense of the environments enthusiasts and professionals depend on.

The International Four-Wheel Drive Trainers Association has quietly become one of the most important forces shaping modern off-road education. By combining technical rigor, practical field skills, and a strong safety philosophy, I4WDTA continues to elevate what professional four-wheel-drive training should look like
For individuals and organizations serious about doing off-road operations the right way, I4WDTA is not just training it is the benchmark. Interested in bringing professional off-road training to your team or event? Connect with an I4WDTA-certified trainer or visit the organization to learn more about upcoming programs and certifications

At Switchback Outdoor Safety, we’re committed to empowering the off-road community with the knowledge and tools to tread lightly and recover safely. To learn more about our training programs and recovery equipment, visit SwitchbackSafety.com

The MOORE Storytellers Campaign invites creators, travelers, and advocates to use their voice and their network to support NCMECr through the annual MOORE Expo fundraiser. This year, 10% of each Storyteller’s total ticket sales will be donated directly to NCMEC.
MOORE Expo attendees are a diverse group of travelers who journey across the U.S. and around the globe This makes the community uniquely positioned to spread awareness of missing children and amplify NCMEC’s mission far and wide

Storyteller Row participants will use their digital platforms to encourage their followers to support NCMEC's mission and will attend a NCMEC training session prior to the show "At the MOORE Expo, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire action and effect change," says Chris Holloway, the event's organizer. "Through this collaboration with NCMEC, we are able to reach a wide audience and spark meaningful conversations about issues that matter " In addition to raising awareness, the Storytellers are actively engaged in fundraising efforts for NCMEC

The MOORE Expo is leveraging the influence of content creators and personalities for a noble cause Overland travelers, known for their adventurous spirit and ability to navigate remote areas, are now being recognized for their potential role in aiding the search for missing children. The innovative platform of Storyteller Row is raising awareness about the plight of missing children and the work of National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC ) A list of participants is available on the MOORE Expo website.
Whether or not you are attending MOORE Expo you can still make a difference. Donate directly to NCMEC and dedicate your gift to the Storyteller you’re supporting.
In 2025, MOORE Expo Storytellers raised more than $10,000 to help NCMEC protect children and support families of missing children. This year, we’re aiming even higher

There’s a specific silence found only when the pavement ends and the cell service drops. It’s the moment where "what if" becomes "let’s go " But that transition from a daily driver to a backcountry beast isn't just about spirit; it’s about engineering. At CBI Offroad and Prinsu Design Studio, we don’t just build parts; we build the confidence to keep driving when the map gets fuzzy. Our philosophy is simple: Trail-proven, American-made, and built to outlast the vehicle they’re bolted to.
Armor is more than just metal and welds it’s peace of mind. When you’re miles from the nearest paved road, your vehicle’s vulnerability is the only thing standing between a successful expedition and an expensive recovery.
CBI Offroad was born from the rugged landscapes of Idaho, where the terrain demands respect. We’ve spent years refining our heavy-duty bumpers, rock sliders, and skid plates to ensure they offer the industry’s best approach angles and maximum ground clearance. Every line is intentional; every weld is a promise. By utilizing high-grade materials and CNC precision, we ensure that our armor doesn't just fit, it integrates. Whether you're navigating a technical rock garden or shielding your radiator from a stray branch, CBI provides the structural integrity required for the boldest lines.
While CBI guards your foundation, Prinsu optimizes your ceiling. The original Prinsu Roof Rack changed the industry by proving that you don’t have to choose between strength and weight.
Our modular, high-strength aluminum racks are the pinnacle of functional design The low-profile aesthetic minimizes wind noise and drag, while the bolt-together, no-drill architecture allows for total customization. Whether you are mounting a rooftop tent for a week in the desert, securing Maxtrax for a muddy recovery, or hauling a weekend’s worth of fuel and water, the Prinsu system adapts to your mission. It’s a silent partner that carries the weight of your ambition without compromising the performance of your rig.

The synergy between CBI and Prinsu is where the magic happens It’s a complete ecosystem designed to transform your vehicle into a purposebuilt overland machine We take pride in the fact that our gear is made in the USA, supporting local craftsmen and ensuring that our quality control remains unmatched.
We aren't just selling products; we’re inviting you into a community of explorers who value the journey as much as the destination. We believe that your vehicle should be a tool that expands your world, not a limitation that shrinks it.
Ready to see the gear in person? Join us at the Moore Expo to get a hands-on look at our latest builds and speak with our team of experts. Whether you’re starting your first build or refining a seasoned rig, we’re here to help you find the right setup for your specific needs

“The Chicago Auto Show, held annually at McCormick Place since 1901, is the largest and longest-running auto exposition in North America. It serves as a major public-focused event often featuring nearly 1,000 vehicles where attendees can explore new models, experience indoor/outdoor test tracks, and see concept cars” -The Chicago Auto Show
By Cindy Pope
Chris Holloway, founder of the MOORE Expo and I were invited by Jim O’Brill of the Chicago Auto Show to participate in the Overlanding Chicago exhibit headed up by Joe Krelle of ChiTown 4x4 at this year’s show. In addition to sharing The MOORE Expo with a new, eager audience, we had the unique opportunity to camp overnight on the show floor on the last Saturday.
Camping overnight inside McCormick Place was one of those experiences that felt equal parts surreal and ridiculously fun After the crowds cleared and the lights dimmed, the show floor took on a completely different energy. What had been a busy, polished display space during the day turned into our own little camp for the night, with rigs parked under high ceilings and our rooftop tents popped out like we were deep in the backcountry
The late-night hours ended up being some of the best of the whole weekend. We gathered around our very on-brand “campfire” a cheap faux fire pit delivered by Amazon, glowing in the middle of a convention center and settled into the kind of conversations that only happen when people slow down (and play Radio Chatter After Dark with a few cocktails.)
As the night blurred into morning, we were caught off guard by a local news crew showing up at 5am to interview us (was it really that late? or, early?) Some of us still awake, some waking up, a little bleary-eyed, we got to share what overlanding is and why it matters right there in our makeshift indoor camp. It was kind of unexpected, a little chaotic, and honestly pretty perfect.
That whole experience tied directly into what the Overlanding Chicago exhibit set out to do It brought overlanding into the light in a way that a lot of folks hadn’t really seen before, putting it in front of a massive audience while still holding onto the authenticity of the community behind it For a few days inside McCormick Place, we weren’t just talking about adventure we were living it in our own way, and inviting others to imagine what that could look like for them too.

BY CHRIS HOLLOWAY

There’s a point on a long trip where things shift a little. At the start, it feels easy. You’re rolling out of Kansas City, full of energy, everything packed, route mapped out. It’s just driving. Just miles. Then the terrain changes, and the responsibility starts to feel real
We were pulling our InTech camper, fully loaded for nearly three weeks on the road Idaho, Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons A lot of miles A lot of elevation. A lot of weight behind us. You don’t notice that weight much on flat ground. The truck handles it. You settle into a rhythm.
Mountains are different
Climbing is one thing You expect that The engine works harder You hear it You feel it But going down is where it gets serious. That’s when everything behind you wants to keep moving, whether you’re ready or not.
There were a few moments that didn’t look like much from the outside. A curve tightening faster than expected. Traffic slowing sooner than it should have A downhill stretch that kept going longer than you planned for Nothing dramatic No close calls you’d tell as a wild story
Still, those are the moments where your brain gets quiet and focused
Are we good here?
Somewhere early in the trip, I started saying it Any time we’d come into one of those situations and the truck slowed exactly how I needed it to, I’d look over at Megan and say: “Thank you, Wilwood ” At first, it was just something to say A throwaway line But the more we drove, the more it stuck Because there’s a big difference between hoping your brakes will do the job and knowing they will.

Teton Pass is where that feeling really set in If you’ve driven it, you already know what it demands. If you haven’t, picture a steep, narrow road with a long 10 percent grade and no room for lazy decisions It connects Idaho into Jackson, and it asks you to stay sharp the whole time
We came into it loaded. Truck, camper, gear, everything Before the descent even started, I was already thinking about it
Speed control. Heat. Distance. Timing.
You don’t rush into something like that As we started down, I stayed focused on the road ahead and how the truck was responding. Engine braking helped, but there were moments where you need more than that You need control right now, not a second later
Every time I got into the brakes, the response was clean. No hesitation. No fade creeping in. No guessing what would happen next Just steady, predictable control
I glanced over at Megan again and said it, a little more serious this time.
“Thank you, Wilwood ”
Most people don’t think about brakes unless something goes wrong They’re not the part you show off. They don’t get attention in photos. Nobody gathers around to talk about them at camp Still, they’re working the whole time They’re what lets you stay calm when the road gets complicated They’re what gives you options when things change faster than you expected. And when you’re towing through mountains, options matter.
Out here, gear earns its spot Not because of specs. Not because of marketing. Because it shows up when it counts.
This trip had plenty of great moments Glacier views Yellowstone wildlife The Tetons at sunrise The kind of stuff you remember forever. But there were also those quieter moments. The ones where nothing happened And that was the whole point Because when you needed to slow down, you could
By the time we were heading home, I was still saying it Pulling into a town Coming down a grade. Rolling into camp after a long day.
“Thank you, Wilwood ”
Not as a joke anymore. Just a simple acknowledgment. Because getting there is only half the story. Being able to stop when you need to is what makes the whole trip work

“The Valor Outdoor Foundation was created out of both personal experience and a clear need. After my time in the military and dealing with the physical and mental challenges that followed, I found that being outdoors especially in structured, purpose-driven environments had a real impact on recovery

Overlanding and off-roading naturally evolved into a platform for this because they combine problemsolving, teamwork, and time away from everyday pressures What started as informal outings has grown into a mission-driven nonprofit focused on helping veterans reconnect with themselves, with others, and with a sense of purpose.
We are currently 100 percent volunteer-based, and until we receive grant funding, I am personally funding the organization But I believe in this mission fully if it takes all my time and all my resources to help even one veteran, it is worth it.

Time on the trail creates a unique kind of therapeutic environment Whether it’s navigating difficult terrain, recovering a stuck vehicle, or setting up camp, each task requires focus, patience, and collaboration. These moments mirror many of the challenges veterans are familiar with working under pressure, adapting to changing conditions, and relying on a team The difference is that now those experiences are in a controlled, supportive environment where growth happens naturally without being forced

Community is at the core of everything we do In the military, you’re part of something bigger than yourself, and that sense of belonging can be hard to replace after service. We intentionally build that same camaraderie by creating shared challenges and shared wins There’s something powerful about overcoming an obstacle together on the trail it builds trust quickly and authentically. We also keep our groups tight and mission-focused, which helps foster real connections rather than surfacelevel interactions
Beyond recreation, veterans are learning practical and transferable skills These include problemsolving, vehicle recovery, navigation, planning, and resource management. Just as important are the soft skills communication, leadership, and confidence Many of these translate directly into civilian life, whether that’s in the workplace, personal relationships, or simply regaining a sense of control and capability.
To the off-road community, I would say that your support matters more than you might realize Whether it’s volunteering time, offering resources, partnering with organizations like ours, or simply showing up and engaging with veterans, it all makes a difference The off-road community already has a strong culture of helping others, and when that’s extended to veterans, it creates a powerful bridge between two worlds that naturally align.” -Michael Elrod, The Valor Foundation
