Department Tidbits
Child Nutrition The North Little Rock School District will continue to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2026-2027 school year. This means that all enrolled students in our district are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge to their household. Your student(s) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application. Students and families can view lunch menus by school by visiting the Child Nutrition page on our website, nlrsd.org. Communications The Communications Office is committed to providing accurate, timely information to students, staff, families, and the community. This Office takes pride in supporting students and staff by highlighting successes from across the district on the district website, on its social media channels - Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and district publications. Each school has a Facebook page. Give them a follow as well! We use Thrillshare, a system through our website provider, Apptegy, to reach families by email, call, or text. Aside from school announcements, these messages will also include the Superintendent’s Weekly Update (“Top 5”), Board Briefs, notifications about school closings/delays, or emergency notifications. In order to receive communication from our schools and the district, all families are encouraged to maintain accurate contact information. Please contact your child’s school office to make sure the information is correct. Remember, if your information changes, we will not know unless you make us aware.
Transportation Transportation services shall be provided to eligible students to and from their assigned bus stop and school. Bus routes are available on our website, nlrsd.org. Bus routes will be posted one week prior to the start of school in August. Please check the website often for bus schedules as they may change as a result of updates. Bus stops shall be determined by the Transportation Department and assigned based on the proximity from a student’s primary residential address in eSchool. Eligible students include those living within their school’s attendance zone, but outside the two-mile walk zone (secondary students) or one-mile walk zone (elementary students). Bus Rider Eligibility Only those students enrolled in an NLRSD school and living outside the walk zone are eligible to ride a bus. All students must be at least 5 years of age (K-12). Bus assignments Students will only be assigned to a route and allowed to ride the bus to and from the address on file in eSchool. Elementary students must live in their school attendance zone to be eligible for transportation. In the event that there is no availability for an enrolling student at the elementary school within his/her 10
attendance zone, transportation will be provided to a school outside the student’s attendance zone. The school assignment will be made by the Office of Student-Centered Support Services. All special accommodations requests must be submitted through the Special Services Department. Please check online bus schedules often as they may change as a result of updates. Change of Address In the event that a family moves, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school so that the address can be updated with the Transportation Department and adjustments made to the student’s bus assignment. If a student moves, the parent or guardian must submit proof of address to the student’s assigned school. Proof of address should include a utility bill in the parent or guardian’s name or lease agreement or mortgage. A light, water, or gas bill is the only acceptable utility bill accepted. Unless a transportation supervisor directs otherwise, all students should ride their assigned bus and get on and off the bus at their stop. Mental Health Mental health can affect a student’s energy level, concentration level, and self-esteem. These issues, if not addressed early, can have long-term consequences, including their career potential and overall health. Our district has partnered with local mental health agencies to provide on-site therapy and intervention at our campuses. Please visit nlrsd.org to see our Approved Mental Health Providers. The Suicide and Crisis Hotline is available 24/7 and is for anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. The number to call is 988. School Supplies School leaders have compiled a list of supplies that students will need for the year. These supplies are available on our website, nlrsd.org. Water Bottle Filling Stations In the essence of health and safety, all water fountains have been turned off. However, all schools have water bottle filling stations. Students and staff are encouraged to bring water bottles, and they can be refilled throughout the day. Riding Rock Region Metro The North Little Rock School District is proud of its partnership with Rock Region Metro to offer free bus fares to students in grades nine through twelve. Students will be provided with a security sticker that is placed on their school ID. Students must present their school ID with the appropriate security sticker upon entering a Rock Region Metro bus. The security sticker changes each semester. This fare-free agreement is only valid in the Little Rock and North Little Rock service areas.

Athletic Ticket Price Ticket prices to attend athletic events are consistent with other schools in the conference and provides additional financial support to the Athletic Department.

District is Cashless The North Little Rock School District no longer accepts cash or checks, except for Child Nutrition fees (i.e. meals) and transactions made through the Business & Finance Office. The district has the ability to accept electronic payments using various online platforms. Being cashless and checkless eliminates students, teachers, and schools from collecting cash payments, reduces the opportunities for theft and mishandling, and ends returned checks and debt collection. Open Houses Scheduled Pike View Early Childhood Center and all Pre-K sites will have open houses August 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All elementary open houses will be August 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The middle school open houses will be August 4 for sixth graders, August 6 for seventh graders, and August 10 for eighth graders all from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. North Little Rock High School and Center of Excellence open houses will be August 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The North Little Rock Academy open house will be August 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. School Board Meetings The North Little Rock Board of Education meets twice a month. Special Board Meetings/Board Workshops are held on the first Thursday of each month and Regular Board Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. and take place at the Administration Building, located at 2400 Willow Street. Meetings can be viewed live on our YouTube channel NLRSD Board Meetings. Previous Board Meetings can also be seen on that channel. We kindly ask that you follow the district’s Chain of Command procedures when it comes to addressing issues. The procedures can be found on pages 14 and 15. This process allows district staff members to handle an issue before contacting a board member. “Let’s Talk” Nights with the Superintendent The North Little Rock School District is hosting three “Let’s Talk” nights with our Superintendent, Dr. Gregory J. Pilewski. During these nights, there will be town hall-style sessions to collect feedback, clarify information, and answer questions regarding your child’s education. Bell to Bell, No Cell
During the school day, personal electronic device use is prohibited per Arkansas Law ACT 122. This is to ensure a productive, respectful, and safe learning environment throughout the district for all grade levels. School day means from the time students are required to be at school until the time students are dismissed from school. Personal Electronic devices are as follows but are not limited to: ● Cellular telephones ● Paging device/Beeper ● Wireless earbuds ● Mobile telephone that offers advanced computing and internet accessibility ● Digital media player ● Portable game console ● Tablet, notebook, or laptop computer ● Digital video or audio recorder ● Smart watch ● Any device that can connect and transmit data through bluetooth technology Exemptions to this policy include the following: ● Devices issued to a student by the school district ● Personal electronic device required for health reasons ● Personal electronic device included in a student’s IEP or 504 plan as it existed on January 1, 2025 ● Student enrolled in a concurrent enrollment course that requires them to utilize two-factor authentication to access course work and resources for the course ● Emergencies that are serious, unexpected, and dangerous that require immediate actions such as but not limited to fire, tornado, earthquake, active shooter, evacuation of school grounds, medical emergency, etc. Consequences for Violating the Policy: First Offense: ● The personal electronic device will be confiscated and a parent/guardian will be required to pick it up during the designated time at the end of the day. Second Offense: ● The personal electronic device will be confiscated and kept in the office for 24 hours. The student’s parent/ guardian will be required to pick up the phone from the office during the designated time the next day. ● The student will receive one day of detention. Third Offense: ● The personal electronic device will be confiscated and kept in the office for 1 week from the date it is confiscated. A parent or guardian will be required to pick up the personal electronic device during the designated time after the 1-week hold. ● The student will receive one day of In-School Suspension. Repeated Violations or Serious Disruptions: In cases where students repeatedly break the personal electronic device policy or cause a disruption using their personal electronic device, further disciplinary actions may be taken. This may include the device being confiscated and held for the remainder of the 9 weeks grading period. The North Little Rock School District shall not be liable for a personal electronic device that is confiscated as a result of not following this policy. A Yondr pouch will be provided for each student to hold their personal electronic devices. Frequently Asked Questions Are there school uniforms? There is no school uniform policy in the North Little Rock School District; however, we expect our students’ attire to be appropriate and free of distraction. The dress policy can be found in the NLRSD Parent-Student Handbook. In addition, students in kindergarten through eighth grade are required to use a clear or mesh book bag to transport books and supplies. Students in grades 9–12 are permitted to carry regular backpacks. Clear or mesh bags are not required for high school students. How many days can a student miss? The North Little Rock School District enforces a strict attendance policy. •Excused Absences: Parents can excuse up to 3 days per semester by submitting a written note within 5 days of the absence. •Unexcused Absences: Absences without documentation are unexcused. Parents are notified at 3 absences, and the Prosecutor’s Office is notified at 12 absences. •High School Credit Loss: Students in grades 9–12 who reach 7 unexcused absences in a single course may lose credit for that class, thus affecting graduation progress. How will I be notified about school closures and inclement weather? If severe weather or safety concerns require a closure or delay, families will be notified via text, email, and phone call. Updates will also be posted on our official social media pages and shared with local news outlets. Because we rely on the data in our system that parents provided at registration, please ensure your contact information remains updated with your child’s school. Will my student have access to their cell phone during the school day? No. In compliance with Arkansas’s “Bell to Bell, No Cell” law, our campuses are phone-free: •Elementary: Phones must be turned off and kept in backpacks or turned in to the teacher.
