ELEVATING the STANDARD of CARE BY AMADO J. BOBADILLA

M

indy was a beautiful, vivacious young woman in her mid-30s. She was active socially, had a promising career and a happy, carefree outlook on life. That is, until recently. Lately, she was uncharacteristically thirsty and was experiencing tingling in her hands, arms and legs. Despite an increased appetite, ravenous at times, she was losing weight, which was great at first, but as the weight loss continued, she became concerned, especially since it was accompanied by an ongoing fatigue that she couldn’t shake no matter how much she slept or how often she rested. Now, sitting in her doctor’s office, she understood why. She had diabetes.

Her OneMed primary-care physician watched it all, and then she moved in with a plan that would eventually dispel the darkness and put spring back in her step. Ongoing collaboration with her psychiatry colleagues has allowed her to perceive the emotional indicators such

devastating news can bring to a patient, and she was ready for the long heartfelt conversation that was to follow. The doctor listened as Mindy poured out her heart in tears and anger, and emptied herself of all the emotion, fear and trepidation she was feeling. Recognizing Mindy’s mental-health needs, the OneMed psychiatrist was integrated for col-

laborative care, and together their compassionate efforts built a bridge of hope. This integrative approach allowed for Mindy to get back to her old self—confident, expectant, and up for the challenges her new life would pose. Mindy now knows that there is great value in not only maintaining her physical health, but also now her “mental health.”

BOZANICH PHOTOGRAPHY

The news hit her like a ton of bricks. Her spunky, energetic demeanor deflated. A dark cloud of hopelessness came out of nowhere, hovered over her and depleted her joy and purpose.

BOZANICH PHOTOGRAPHY

“That’s something we could never have done in a traditional practice,” says Dr. Peter Ganpat, a Psychiatrist, Family-Medicine doctor with OneMed Lake Nona, a concierge clinic that blends family medicine and psychiatry and brings a paradigm of integrative care to their patients. “Physicians in a traditional practice may have been just as attentive and sensitive to their patients’ needs, but the press of their schedule and a waiting room full of patients would have prevented them from doing much about it.” Dr. Sonita Khan, a OneMed FamilyMedicine Physician and wife of Dr. Ganpat, suggests this is what a concierge practice is all about. In a typical standard of care, she says, a patient walks into the doctor’s office to find the waiting room jam-packed. With physicians often triple-booked, they may have to wait up to an hour or more to see their physician. Then, once they see their doctor, they’ll probably only have his or her attention for five to seven minutes—and that attention may be divided because of the press of a patient load. In a concierge practice, the patient has insurance, but also pays a reasonable monthly or yearly membership fee that ensures 24/7 unrestricted access to their primary-care physician. This ensures treatment that is specific to the patient and removes current barriers. Diagnostic tests, imaging studies and hospital stays are billed via insurance, but OneMed provides unprecedented access, personalized care and an exclusivity to physicians, which is unheard of in a traditional practice. It also provides a mental-health element to ensure care for the “entire patient,” not just a superficial assessment and treatment of symptoms; a therapeutic aspect greatly needed but seldom provided in standard practice. “A lot of health (and emotional) concerns get overlooked because physicians just don’t have the time

to address them,” she says. “With a concierge service—and especially one integrating psychiatry—you have unprecedented access to your family-medicine physician and your psychiatrist, so that underlying emotional needs can be brought to the surface and addressed—needs that often go untended in a traditional practice, because the doctor doesn’t have the time to ask the right questions.” Dr. Ganpat suggests that in a case like Mindy’s, the required lifestyle changes could cause patients to fall into a severe depression that causes them to stop eating entirely and stop taking their medication. “Before long, their diabetes may rage out of control and their A1C could shoot through the roof,” he says, “and all this can go on in the three to six months between visits. But in an integrative practice like ours, once the patients’ proclivity to depression is on our radar, we can check on them regularly to ensure they’re following the proper regimen, and that we’re addressing their emotional needs as well.” He says primary-care doctors don’t have to look very far to find mentalhealth issues underlying many of their patients’ physical concerns. “Traditionally, 80 percent of mental illnesses comes through a primarycare office, but with the limitations of that model, most of them leave without care. There’s a huge shortage of mental-health providers in our area, so it’s very difficult to get in to see a psychiatrist. Then you have the stigma of ‘going to see a shrink’ that keeps a lot of people from seeking the care they need. But with the integration of primary care and psychiatry that a practice like OneMed provides, patients are able to discuss their emotional challenges as a part of their primary-care visit. It’s a model the Mayo Clinic has researched extensively and found

Dr. Reynald Lamarre

the results of its application to be profound.” “The benefits of a concierge practice like OneMed follows patients wherever they go in the healthcare system,” says Dr. Reynald Lamarre, a OneMed Family-Medicine doctor. “Say you’re my patient and you’re in the hospital,” he says. “You will have seen a cardiologist, gastroenterologist, pulmonologist or any of a number of specialists with whom we have a relationship. They will keep me informed of your progress at all stages so that I’m never out of the loop. We can coordinate your care and even pay you a visit during your stay to lend a caring and understanding ear to your fears and concerns. Knowing your medical history, allergies or special needs ensures that traditional errors like getting the wrong meds will be far less likely than in a traditional setting. You won’t get lost in the shuffle.” Lamarre explains that OneMed’s specialty affiliates in the community will maintain regular communication, so that once the patient is released, OneMed physicians can

HEALTH & WELLNESS | COVER STORY provide a seamless continuity of care, and patients are spared the traditional extended wait for an appropriate follow-up appointment. They can contact their OneMed primary-care doctor via phone, virtually on their computer, through a special OneMed App or have an in-office appointment the same day they leave the hospital to discuss the physical or emotional aspects of their experience. “We recognize that our community is starved for mental-health care,” says Lamarre. “We want to help bridge that gap, push the envelope and elevate the standards of care.” He says that in their hospital work, OneMed physicians see a number of people who are nowhere near receiving a proper standard of care—mental health or otherwise—once they leave the hospital. “An integrative partnership of psychiatry and primary care that treats the entire patient is a modality that is desperately needed, especially here in Florida, where we are ranked 50th out of the 50 states for mental health and overall healthcare,” he says. “When Peter [Dr. Ganpat] and I met five years ago, we recognized a glaringly obvious disconnect between outpatient and inpatient care. We

forged an alliance to give the patient the emotional and mental healthcare often lacking in a typical primary-care practice. The average primary-care doctor is carrying a panel size of a few thousand patients. Our doctors (four psychiatrists and three family-medicine physicians) carry a panel size of a few hundred, so we can offer above and beyond the standard of care, a philosophy well suited to the Lake Nona community. “At OneMed, we’re committed to offering our patients a premium level of care that promotes their physical AND emotional well-being. We think the people of Lake Nona are tired of ‘healthcare as usual’ and deserve more. This is the answer.” l

OBESITY STUDY in FLORIDA BY SUMMER BANKS

O

besity is a serious worldwide problem that affects both affluent and developing countries, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to recent statistics, over 500 million people in the world are obese. The three countries that have the highest rates of obesity are Mexico, New Zealand and the United States. The problem is that obesity carries with it an increased risk of certain diseases and medical conditions—sometimes severe. Among them are type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Obesity also increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The condition is prevalent among adults between 40 and 59 years.

Taking a Closer Look at Obesity in Florida

Recent statistics show that 64.2% of the adult population in Florida are overweight, meaning that their body mass index (BMI) is higher than 24.9, according to the CDC. 26.6% of the Florida adult population are obese with a BMI of 30 or higher. BMI is a generic measure of body fat most often used in a clinical setting to give healthcare providers a fast way to determine if a patient could benefit from a weight-loss intervention. Surprisingly, one of the main reasons for obesity in Florida is the lack of physical activity. Over 23% of overweight people in the Sunshine State report that they have not participated in any physical activity during the past month. Only 33% ate two or more servings of fruits or drank fruit juice during the day. Many Florida counties, like Baker County (72.5% overweight or obese), Columbia County (72.8%) and Gadsden County (80.2%), have higher general obesity stats than the state average, but others match up nearly perfectly. For instance, according to data collected from Orange County residents visiting health and wellness website Dietspotlight.com, “Men in the county weigh about 217 pounds, on average, and have a BMI of 31.4. Women weigh about 183 pounds and have a slightly lower BMI of 30.9. The average pounds to lose in Orange County is 56. That’s 2% higher than the state average of 55 pounds and 5% lower than the country average of 59 pounds.” All data collected from visitors to Dietspotlight was done anonymously and

voluntarily. Visitors reach the site while searching for assistance with weight loss and overall health through fat burners, weight-loss programs, workout plans and more. Research shared on Dietspotlight is reviewed by a team of medical and nutrition professionals for accuracy and relevance.

Florida Initiatives to STOP Obesity

Florida has been working hard for years to stop the rising obesity rates and help men and women in the state achieve a healthier lifestyle. One such program is Healthiest Weight Florida launched in 2013. According to the program’s description, “For those who are overweight, even a modest weight loss can have a positive impact on your health. A healthy weight can also impact your energy levels, sleep habits, self-esteem, psychological health and healthcare costs.” This initiative brings together nonprofit organizations, state agencies and entire communities to help adults and children of the Sunshine State to make informed and consistent choices about active living and healthy eating. There is also the Healthy Living Initiative—a collaboration with the Aetna Foundation to help reduce incidents of chronic disease associated with obesity and promote healthy living. l

"The Face"

ab knew she was an artist when she was very little, fourth grade to be exact. There was a supermarket contest for creative kids and Fab’s mother encouraged her to enter the contest. She won the contest and after that her mother signed her up for painting classes at her church in Venezuela where she grew up. She has very vivid memories of when she started painting and how much she enjoyed the process. “I remember coming home from school and just getting right into my art.” She would listen to what her heart was telling her to do while painting and then trust in the results.

INSPIRATIONAL ART with

FAB LIMA

MEDINA BY SAMANTHA MONTGOMERY

Lake Nona Social Magazine had the pleasure of sitting down with local artist Fab Lima Medina to discuss her art, passion and what’s up next for this talented, young lady.

Mitch Gobel, an Australian artist who started experimenting with resin in 2012, was one of her early inspirations. Listening to music while creating her art is another way this gifted artist is inspired. “I pay attention to the sounds and melody of the music, not the lyrics. It depends on how I am feeling. If I am feeling nostalgic or romantic, I listen to Andrea Bocelli, The 1975, Charles Lloyd or Bon Iver. If I am feeling like I need to be hyped up, I listen to Linkin Park, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or Vampire Weekend.” “Quiet the Mind and the Soul Will Speak” is Fab’s favorite creation so far. “There’s something about the colors of this painting that bring so much peace to me. The combination of the white with the contrast of the lilac, grey and yellowish color is so soothing to me. This painting reminds me of ‘freedom.’ Almost like when you take a deep breath

She began expanding her creativity beyond oils by experimenting with resin. When asked about the difference between working with oil and resin Fab said, “One of the things that I loved the most about oil is that is very forgiving; resin, on the other hand, is the complete opposite.” This is because the resin dries very fast, but she enjoys working at a fast pace, and so the artist and the resin formed a bond. “Resin, for me, is like the other part of me; it’s like my best friend. It’s like a marriage with a woman, and I fight with it the most, but it’s also the one that I care about the most, because that is the part of me that doesn’t like control. I just like to let it go and let it flow. Let me be, just let it go, Fab, stop controlling. But there is the other part of me that wants to make things one way. I just have to let it go at the end of the day.”

and there’s some sort of relief inside of you. I identify myself with this painting a lot, because I see it like my alter ego, the way I want to be and be seen through the eyes of the world: peaceful, soothing, and free.” When asked about the future, Fab said, “I have so many emotions inside of me. I am very grateful that I have accomplished so many things in my life, like this interview. I never thought I would be having an interview.” In addition to creating beautiful art, Fab is hoping to put together a charitable cause, which will center on education. “The way I want to give back to the world is through education, and possibly give others the same opportunities I got!”

I closed out the interview by catching up with Fab at the DeLand Art Festival this March, where she had a successful weekend showing and selling her art. I decided to purchase a replica of her piece “The Colors of My Heart.” The artist describes this piece as, “Basically a burst of love and a lot of emotion. The love you have for yourself and that love that comes inside of you, that pure soul. And, my buyer for “The Colors of My Heart” is a really old friend of mine who is in Paris, France. He definitely deserves this painting; he has a very special place in my heart.” If you are interested in supporting this rising star, her art can be purchased on her website at Limesart.com or you can commission a piece directly from the artist. She is happy to work with fans of her art on color choices and sizes but laughingly cautions that ultimately, “The resin is going to do its own thing; it’s like that stubborn woman.” l

Bookworms’ CORNER BY SAMANTHA MONTGOMERY

FLOAT

amp Outlier isn’t the kind of camp where you just eat lots of s’mores, catch a fish for breakfast and gather around a bonfire; it’s also the kind of camp where other RISK kids can let loose and be themselves without getting judged by their peers. Kids labeled RISK by the government have Recurring Incidents of the Strange Kind. If Emerson is not tethered to something strong, he will simply float away, all the way to the moon if not intercepted. When Gary’s hands get stuck to something, good luck getting him detached; it could be days before he finds himself unstuck. Hank is the optimist and inspirational guy in the group and also has a knack for turning partially or fully invisible at the most inconvenient times. Zeke has X-ray vision, Anthony will spontaneously combust, and Murphy inadvertently travels to the future—something that the government doesn’t appreciate. When this group of twelve-year-old boys meet for the first time at Camp Outlier, only Hank is happy to be there and make the most of his summer. Hank and Emerson will do their absolute best to keep their friend Murphy from meeting an unknown and unfortunate fate, and in the interim help create a lasting friendship that might inspire a sequel from Laura Martin. I absolutely loved this book and all the chaos that ensues when six preteen boys try to make the most out of summer, all while trying to check items off of their “life lists.” If you want to find out if Hank gets that first kiss or if Anthony is able to lasso a pig (without a doubt the funniest scene in the book), you will have to take a chance on FLOAT. I promise that you will not be disappointed. This book has also won the distinguished Sunshine State Award for middle-school readers. l

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie

A

gatha Christie is one of the most widely known mystery writers of the century and is still celebrating literary success today; however, many people are not aware that in December of 1926, Agatha went missing for 11 days. During that time, the media went wild with sensational stories surmising all the possible outcomes, the police and Scotland Yard took a keen interest in the case, and her husband Archie, a man of few words and a bad temper, became entrenched in a scandal that he had hoped to avoid altogether. The author does a fabulous job of weaving together two stories: The first story is about a young Agatha and Archie falling in love at the onset of the Great War, and the second story details the current turmoil in their relationship that ultimately led to her disappearance on a cold winter night. As the suspense builds and builds, you will be tempted to type “Agatha Christie’s disappearance” into a search engine, but I strongly suggest you hold off until you finish reading, because when you reach the pinnacle of the story, you will not be able to put the book down. Curiously enough, years later, when Agatha wrote her own autobiography, she omitted any information about her mysterious disappearance and adhered to the first rule of Hollywood: Always leave them wanting more. Marie Benedict is a bestselling author who takes famous and interesting women from history and gives them a voice through her historical fiction platform. Some of her other works that I highly recommend: The Only Woman in the Room, The Other Einstein and my personal favorite Lady Clementine, which delves into the role of Winston Churchill’s wife and her efforts to help England survive the war. l

LAKE NONA—

ONE STEP CLOSER to a LIBRARY BY ASHLEY CISNEROS MEJIA

R

AMANDA MURPHY/ORANGE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM

eturning your library books just became quite a bit easier for Lake Nona area residents. The Orange County Library System (OCLS) recently worked with the leadership of Valencia College– Lake Nona to install a new return drop box on campus. Local residents have discussed the need for a library branch in the Lake Nona area for some time. The library’s home-delivery program makes it easy for patrons to request books and materials on the library website OCLS.info and to have them delivered to their homes for free. Returning borrowed materials used to require a trip to a brick-and-mortar branch outside of the area. Instead of having to drive north to the branch on Semoran Boulevard or southwest to the branch near Hunters Creek, Lake Nona area residents can pull up to the drop box at Valencia College–Lake Nona to return books, DVDs and CDs easily and efficiently right here in our community. Items inside the drop box are picked up by the library six days a week— Monday through Saturday. To find the drop box, head to the Valencia College–Lake Nona campus at 12350 Narcoossee Road and circle around to the parking lot behind the building. The drop box is located on Andric Lane near the college parking lot area that’s closest to Lake Nona High School.

Getting materials delivered to your doorstep for free isn’t the only perk of having an OCLS library card. You can also download audiobooks, digital magazines and Kindle books. Your library card allows you to use free apps to learn languages or new skills and grants you access to free classes, online events, and free admission to local theaters and museums. Register for your card online and it will be mailed to your home: ocls.info/using-library/get-or-replaceyour-card

several potential locations for a possible future branch in the Lake Nona area. One cost-effective opportunity is to co-locate a branch within the City of Orlando at a planned new government center on Dowden Road. tart off the summer season with a new you and a less-ismore strategy. These lowmaintenance beauty products are simple to use, easy to incorporate into your daily life and will have you looking stunning all summer long.

Now it’s time to polish that body with Pomifera’s Healing Body Oil NO. 21 ($35). While showering, use an exfoliator sponge all over to remove any dead or dry skin. Towel off and then apply this sleek healing oil all over your skin. Your body will soak in the healing oil, leaving an all-over polished look. Long and lush lashes begin with Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner and Serum ($98). A little pricey but well worth it. Not only does the 2.0ML bottle last three months, but also the results will be stunning. After six weeks of use, you will have noticeably longer lashes. Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil ($9) is one of those fun little treats that get

Simply brush the apricot-scented oil on your nails and push back cuticles with a cuticle stick, then rub the oil on your nail bed for a few minutes before rinsing off. Voila! It’s like a spa day for your nails. InstaNatural Brightening Vitamin C Scrub ($14) is an all-natural exfoliator that will make your skin look polished and bright. Packed with strawberry seeds and quartz crystals, this face scrub is gentle but effective at removing dull and uneven skin. I use this on my face about 2 to 3 times a week, and I am always happy with the results. After the strawberry seeds and quartz crystals do their polishing job, your skin is infused with vitamin C, green tea and coconut water to

reveal a polished healthy-looking face. This will become a lifetime staple in your beauty toolbox. Now it’s time for the finishing touches with Dior Addict Lip Glow ($35). Dior has done a fabulous job of marrying a lip balm with a hint of color. According to Dior, the Color Reviver technology creates a natural flush of custom color and is available in seven sexy shades. Your lips will feel and look fabulous all day. l

It’s out with the old and in with the new when you give Baby Foot Exfoliating Foot Peel ($25) a try. This foot exfoliator needs to be used only twice a year, and it will have your feet looking polished and baby-foot soft. Simply soak your feet in warm water, dry and slip the booties on your feet for an hour. After a few days, your feet will shed their tired and dry skin to reveal smooth, healthy-looking skin.

EAT LAKE NONA

PHO HAVEN

Noodle Bowl

OPENS in LAKE NONA BY SAMANTHA MONTGOMERY

The menu was extensive with a range of everything from appetizers to desserts and boba. The Spring Rolls were stuffed with chicken, vermicelli noodles, cucumber and dark-green lettuces. They were generous in portion and could be shared easily between people. This appetizer also came with the fan-favorite peanut sauce for dipping. This sauce pretty much steals the show as far as dipping sauces are concerned. I chose to create my own Noodle Bowl, and it was fantastic. It was a huge portion of sweet-grilled chicken strips, vermicelli noodles, dark-green lettuces, a scattering of peanuts, fried shallots and a crispy chicken egg roll. This

meal is accompanied by a soufflé cup of garlic fish sauce, which I poured over the noodles and then mixed everything together. I saved a little of the garlic fish sauce to dip my crispy egg roll into, and I don’t think that I will ever use soy sauce again on my egg rolls. This was a healthy meal that filled me up without making me feel like I ate too much. I will come back for this dish again and again. The Seafood Pho Bowl was another huge portion of healthy, delicious food. Shrimp, scallops, imitation crab and little fish dumplings rest atop a bowlful of pho noodles in a clear broth. The shrimp are large and ample, and you will need a to-go container to finish this one later. You can eat this dish as it comes or you can flavor it up with the additional tray that comes with it, featuring: bean sprouts, jalapenos, Thai basil and a lime. For dessert we sampled the Flan and the Three-Color Dessert, which is called Che Ba Mau. The flan was cold and creamy and everything a flan should be: light and

simple. If you push your spoon down into the custard, the caramel will bubble up so you can have a little extra sugar with each custardy bite. Che Ba Mau consists of layers of red beans, mung beans and jelly. It is topped with coconut milk and, in my opinion, is the best part of this creation.

The Thai Tea was another generous portion of fruit tea over ice, and for a modest upcharge, you can add boba that was cooked to perfection, according to our resident expert and Production Manager Maxine Sudarma, “Being a boba enthusiast, I can get a little picky about my boba. Boba is tricky to make. If boiled too long, it becomes too soft. If not boiled long enough, it becomes too tough. Boiled just right and the texture is perfect, and after being marinated in brown-sugar syrup, it is super tasty and a refreshing addition to any drink.” Now that you have a huge craving for noodles in a long-simmered, healthy broth and a sweet boba drink, be sure to check out Dustin and Love’s beautiful, brandnew restaurant Pho Haven. It is located at 14019 Narcoossee Road in Eagle Creek Village. l

CULINARY CORNER

Brunchin’ Your Way through Orlando

B

BY DAVID PLOWDEN

runch is probably one of the most popular meals of the day, thanks to social-media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat. Fortunately, foodies residing in Central Florida have a plethora of brunch options to indulge in as they snap candid photos for the gram. From I-Drive, to Pointe Orlando, and even into the nightlife scenes of Downtown Orlando, Floridians can spot a quaint brunch location at just about any Orlando street corner.

The Hampton Social

The Hampton Social

To kick off my journey, we’re going to take a quick pit stop at The Hampton Social located inside Pointe Orlando— just a hop away from IDrive. The Hampton Social is the newest addition to Pointe Orlando’s restaurant lineup, and it takes on the affluent theme of The Hamptons of Long Island. Their brunch menu items include Scottish salmon, shrimp tacos, lobster rolls and bottomless mimosas.

The Osprey

Locals and tourists in the Baldwin Park area can dive into the immaculate décor and delicious brunch options over at The Osprey. Sitting adjacent to Baldwin Park’s beautiful lake view, The Osprey offers an array of menu items such as fried green tomatoes, smoked salmon, oysters, crispy chicken sandwiches and the appetizing Osprey B.L.T.

Visitors who manage to muster up an appetite for brunch while visiting Downtown Orlando can stop by Neon Beach, located right off Orange Avenue. Similar to The Hampton Social, Neon Beach is the newest addition to the Orlando food scene, and they’re bringing a beach vibe to the concrete jungle of Downtown Orlando. Neon Beach’s brunch items include ahi tuna nachos, BBQ waffle fries, smoked Cobb salads and even fried pickles. With Orlando’s culinary scene constantly growing, diversifying and evolving, the restaurant options for a tranquil Sunday brunch with family and friends is practically endless. l

TASTE OF PARADISE—

Caribbean Food Fete at Nona Adventure Park BY SAMANTHA MONTGOMERY

L

ake Nona Social hosted a spectacular event that brought the gorgeous islands of the Caribbean to our beautiful neighborhood.

The food vendors featuring authentic island fare were the hit of the day as guests mingled and sampled various menu items that were as colorful as they were delicious. The mood of the day was light-hearted and carefree, and that may have had something to do with the combination of our fabulous Florida sunshine and the tropical music. Guests who were fortunate enough to get their VIP tickets early were treated to a covered area that featured a bar and a delicious meal where they could kick back and enjoy the day.

If you were there and thought this event was fun, just wait to see what we have planned next. If you missed this festive affair, do not fret! We have plenty of other social events coming up, so be sure to check us out on Instagram. A big shout-out to all of the vendors who made the day possible: • Chef Pebbles • Chef Andres • JFirturas Catering • Jamaican Dumpling Catering • Conch Master Teddy • Blessing D Kreyol Food • Mannah Gourmet Foods & Catering • Chef Eddie • Bahama Buck's • Bella Ella Cakes • Just Because Baking • Euro Motors • Titan Food Products of Puerto Rico • Henna by Priya • Just Glitter Fun Tattoos • Cycle Bar • Nona Adventure Park

A Day with PRINCESS JASMINE BY SAMANTHA MONTGOMERY

L

ake Nona Social hosted a Mommy and Me Event with Princess Jasmine at the Eagle Creek Golf Clubhouse this month.

The morning began with a breakfast buffet befitting royalty, which featured French toast, scrambled eggs, pasta with veggies, creamy herb chicken and an array of healthy juices. After queens and princesses finished their royal feast, it was on to story time with Princess Jasmine’s reading of Disney’s Aladdin.

As the morning came to a close, each member of royalty was sprinkled with magical pixie dust to ensure that the magic of the day would follow them home. If you didn’t get the opportunity to attend this soldout event, not to worry; Lake Nona Social has plenty of exciting future plans to make the most of the day with your favorite little princess. l

DENEE HICKMAN

The next activity was met with much enthusiasm by all princesses in attendance—crown making! With jewels, glitter and colorful markers, everyone was encouraged

to put their own creative spin creating their royal headdress that captured the essence of their favorite Disney Princess. To make sure there was plenty of sparkle, Princess Jasmine gave each little girl her very own sparkly tattoo.
