This season feels especially meaningful. As we look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, I find myself reflecting on the ideas that have always inspired me- freedom, optimism, individuality, and the belief that the future can be brighter than the past. Those same values have guided me not only as a designer, but as a woman, a mother, and a business owner for nearly five decades.

This book is a celebration of that spirit. Classic red, white, and blue are reimagined with a modern, effortless sensibility- timeless, confident, and designed for real life. These are pieces meant to move with you, to last, and to feel just as good years from now as they do the first time you put them on.

1994 Raising funds for the Pedriatic AIDS Foundation. This was the first time my dad, a veteran of the second World War, ever wore a tuxedo. My mom was a firstgeneration immigrant; she fled Yugoslavia in 1919 for a better future in America

I was born in Barberton, Ohio- a small town of just under 30,000 people. When I was nine, my parents made a brave decision to build a life with more sunshine and fewer harsh winters. They packed up our home and moved us (my sister and me) all the way across the country to Santa Barbara, California.

Living just steps from the Pacific Ocean in the 1970s felt magical. I fell in love with our new home instantly. I embraced every part of becoming a California girl—from celebrating Fiesta days, to surfing in Ventura, to eventually following my passion for fashion design to Los Angeles. LA is where I met my husband, Lonnie, and where the idea for our family company first took shape.

In the 1980s and 1990s, we welcomed our two sons, who have grown into the heart of our business today. Our oldest, Michael, now serves as our president, and our younger son, Robert, works beside me in designing each new collection. Coming to work every day is truly one of my greatest joys- not just because I get to create, but because I get to create with my children.

And now, just the way we once brought Michael and Robert into the office as little kids, I get to watch my three granddaughters toddle through the same rooms, discovering this world the way their dads once did. It’s a beautiful fullcircle moment, and it makes our family business feel even more meaningful.

PAN-SEARED HALIBUT with LEMON BUTTER & ASPARAGUS

Zesty citrus and fragrant herbs infuse this spring favorite with fresh, vibrant flavor. Paired with roasted asparagus, it’s an easy dish designed for relaxed gatherings.

Ingredients

– 4 halibut fillets (6 oz each), skin removed – Kosher salt

– Freshly cracked black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil

– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Zest of 1 Meyer lemon

– 2 tbsp fresh Meyer lemon juice

1 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley

1 bunch asparagus, trimmed – 1 tablespoon olive oil

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Toss asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 10–15 minutes, until tender with lightly crisped tips. Keep warm.

Pat halibut dry with paper towels. Season generously on both sides with salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

– Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

– Place halibut in the pan and sear without moving for 3–4 minutes, until a golden crust forms. Carefully flip and cook another 3–4 minutes, depending on thickness, until the fish is opaque and flakes easily. Transfer to a warm plate.

– Reduce heat to medium-low. In the same pan, add butter and let it melt gently. Stir in Meyer lemon zest, lemon juice, parsley, and a pinch of freshly cracked black pepper. Let simmer for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.

– Spoon the warm Meyer lemon butter over the halibut. Serve alongside roasted asparagus. Garnish with additional parsley and a light twist of black pepper.
