HOUSE OF STYLE

BECAUSE COMING HOM E SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL AS GOOD AS PUTTING ON YOUR FAVORITE DRESS.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

A ROYAL WELCOME

For as long as I can remember, I’ve poured over design magazines. I dog-eared pages, studied rooms, and imagined the lives unfolding inside them. Those publications were a constant source of inspiration, creativity, and joy— so creating one of my own feels a little surreal, and very special.

This inaugural issue marks the beginning of something we’ve dreamed about for a long time. Each quarter, we’ll offer a closer look at our latest projects, the design elements we’re loving, and the pieces we return to again and again when crafting homes meant to feel beautiful, personal, and enduring.

Our style lives at the intersection of classic and fresh—simple but elegant, a little preppy, and never too serious. We’re inspired by timeless icons like Jackie Kennedy and Kate Spade, believe gold and green are always a good idea, and have a soft spot for fretwork, greek keys, polka dots, and bows (just not all at once).Tradition matters, but personality matters just as much—and the best spaces always have both.

Consider this magazine an invitation into our world. We hope it inspires you, sparks ideas, and reminds you that good taste truly does make for a happy home—and a beautiful life.

NOBLE WORKS OF ART

KEVIN VANEMBURGH

For over two decades, Kevin VanEmburgh has been exploring the intersection of spontaneity and intention through his high-energy abstract paintings and evocative photography. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, particularly the ever-changing moods of the sea and the rich palette of colors that surround us, Kevin creates largescale art that celebrates both the power and unpredictability of the creative process.

Working primarily on expansive canvases, Kevin embraces an intuitive approach that allows each piece to discover its own voice. This philosophy of creative surrender results in dynamic compositions where bold gestures and organic color relationships emerge naturally, reflecting a profound connection to nature’s rhythms and hues.

BY MY GUEST

power powder rooms

Powder rooms may be small, but they carry serious impact. They’re one of the only spaces your guests experience on their own, just them, the mirror, and the design choices you were bold enough to make. Which is exactly why they’re the perfect place to take a few risks. Bold wallpaper, dramatic lighting, unexpected color, a touch of shine—this is where personality can run free. In these powder rooms, we lean into the idea of creating a moment. Spaces that surprise, delight, and linger in memory long after the door closes. Consider this your reminder: if you’re ever going to be brave, do it here.

POWDER ROOMS ARE THE PERFECT PLACE TO DELIVER AN EXTRA PUNCH OF PERSONALITY.

Full Circle

A BOLD TAKE ON CLASSIC STYLE

When trust, creativity, and collaboration come full circle, the result is something special.

This home was a true collaboration from the very beginning—clients who trusted the process, embraced color and pattern, and weren’t afraid to be a little daring. She led with instinct and imagination. He leaned into the architecture and details. Together, it created the kind of balance designers dream of.

From the kitchen to the bedrooms, foyers to baths, every space was thoughtfully considered as part of a larger whole. Bold choices were made—but always with intention. Pattern feels layered rather than loud, color feels confident yet timeless, and classic forms are re-imagined with a modern point of view.

Full Circle is the story of a house designed in harmony—with its architecture, its owners, and the belief that the most memorable and livable homes are the ones that dare to color outside the lines.

OPPOSITE: A cherished family antique now showcases meaningful mementos and extra barware, a fitting detail in a home designed with entertaining in mind. THIS PAGE: His office came with a clear list of must-haves: a large TV, a dedicated workspace, and a truly comfortable chair. From there, we layered in thoughtful details to make it as polished as it is practical.

OPPOSITE: Her office may be small, but the bold red cabinetry gives it undeniable presence, a true jewel box at the end of the hallway. ABOVE: The clients requested a bar-height kitchen table, something they had loved in their previous home for its contrast to the formal dining table. The kitchen nook provided the perfect setting for a custom built-in banquette, creating a casual spot that feels both comfortable and intentional.

OPPOSITE: The custom teal bar cabinet was a confident splash of color just off the kitchen, beautifully balanced by the velvet pink and orange tiger chairs shown above left. ABOVE RIGHT: Tucked into the back hallway, the powder room features a wallpaper that completely steals the show. LEFT: In the bedroom, the clients opted for a quieter palette. We reupholstered an existing antique bed frame, blending history with a fresh, tailored feel.

THE POWER OF UNEXPECTEDLY PLACED ART

In thoughtfully designed homes, art isn’t an afterthought or a finishing touch. It’s a conversation starter, a mood-setter, and often the moment that makes a space feel truly personal. Sometimes that means a grand, oversized photograph in a traditional room. Other times, it’s a tightly curated grouping that draws the eye, sparks curiosity, and tells a story over time. And occasionally, it’s something playful or sculptural—chosen simply because it makes you smile every day.

These pages explore both timeless and unexpected approaches to displaying art, proving that great design doesn’t always play it safe. The most memorable spaces often take a risk or two, mixing old with new, scale with surprise, and elegance with a touch of fun. So consider this your permission slip to think beyond the obvious. Hang it lower. Hang it bigger. Hang it where you least expect it. When art is well hung, it doesn’t just decorate a room—it brings it to life.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO SHOOT YOUR SHOT. BOLD MOMENTS MAKE FOR MEMORABLE HOMES.

LACEMENTSADDPERSONALITY

Art is such an important part of design. I truly believe that if you love it, it works. I don’t try to match art to a room. In fact, I often create contrast to bring in that unexpected pop of interest. Art doesn’t have to be a framed print or painted canvas. Play with three-dimensional objects and arrange them in an interesting pattern. Re-imagine everyday elements in unfamiliar ways—like our custom-made light fixture that became the focal point of the bar below. Have fun with it, and most importantly, love what you hang.

Pretty

A BROOKSIDE COLONIAL BLOSSOMS IN BLUSH IN PINK

Every designer needs a place to experiment, and this is mine. Tucked into Kansas City’s storied Brookside neighborhood, this home was love at first sight. I had always imagined living here, and the moment I walked through the (literal!) white picket fence, I knew it was the one. What followed has been an ongoing evolution, one guided by instinct, inspiration, and a willingness to always experiment with something new.

Layered in soft pinks, chocolate browns, and rich wood finishes, my home has become a living design lab. It’s where ideas are tested, palettes are pushed, and details are refined over time. Nothing here is precious or permanent, everything is allowed to change as my taste does.

This space reflects not just how I design, but how I live: feminine but grounded, classic with a twist, and always evolving.
