IT’S WHAT WE DO Welcome to Northern Kentucky’s first ever, annual celebration, virtual pandemic extravaganza! We appreciate you joining us today as we celebrate businesses, the region, and leaders that have made lifelong commitments to Northern Kentucky. Throughout the program, you’ll hear from members of our board as they thank local businesses for contributing to the greater community during the pandemic, as well as specific examples of how your NKY Chamber has been there, every step of the way, to provide critical information and advocacy. Our work over the course of the last eight months serves as a testament to the dedication Brent Cooper, and value of our organization. President & CEO Throughout this crisis, hearing from you, our members, has been extremely helpful. As subject matter experts regarding how new government programs and guidelines impact business, we have been able to quickly advocate for direct changes in specific government programs and policies. I believe it’s what makes our Chamber so unique. Our board, our volunteers, all of you … your advice & council, your caring and commitment, it’s what helps us continue to get through this … together. Together …. that’s been the theme of our Chamber for over 50 years now. Our Chamber plays the role of convener in our region. And the relationships and partnerships we have developed over the past five decades have proven to be instrumental for our effective work. This year you witnessed an amazing team delivering innovative programming and services. We pivoted, we adapted, we innovated … and none of it would have been possible without our committed chamber staff, volunteers and all the sponsors who were willing to pivot, adapt and innovate with us. Your membership is key to our collective success. We are excited to continue to work with each of you to leave this place better than we found it. WHAT A YEAR IT HAS BEEN

Thank you for joining us for today’s Annual Celebration. While these have been trying times for many in the business community, there is still much to be thankful for. I am thankful for the business leaders who support programs like this because of their passion for the region. I am thankful we can properly recognize our award winners even if the forum is different. And I am thankful for the Board and their willingness to break precedent by serving an additional year. They represent the best of Northern Kentucky—work on your behalf to create a better quality of life for all. Last year, I introduced to our membership three important strategic imperatives: Increase Market Share, Generate High Impact Events, and Dan Cahill, Promote One Voice for the Region. I am proud to say our Chamber delivered in ways that we would Chair of the Board never have imagined a year ago. In fact, given the events of the day, they have taken on a whole new context and will continue to drive our organization and region to brighter outcomes. This past year we expanded market share in nonconventional ways through vital updates that helped businesses sustain the initial economic pause brought on by COVID. Our second strategic imperative is developing and distributing high impact programming. The pandemic required us to focus our programming directly on critical needs within the business community that are relevant, timely and meaningful. Finally, our focus for all work will always be framed in the context of One Voice coming from Northern Kentucky. These are the moments that endure, which is why we need to bring our Northern Kentucky chorus to Frankfort. Never has it been more important for our region to come together to advocate as one region on behalf of the business community. In the coming year, we will embrace the uncertainty, promote creativity, breed optimism and lean into the pending adversity. Please do the same. But don’t lean in alone. Lean on us. Your Chamber has a veteran staff and Board whose work has amazed and inspired our community the past year. NKY leaders, join us as we embrace the adversity that will produce the creativity needed for us to achieve the greatness we seek. It’s what we do. TODAY’S EMCEE Kyle Inskeep joined the Local 12 News team in June 2018. He anchors the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts with Paula Toti. Prior to moving to Cincinnati, Kyle worked as a morning reporter/fill-in anchor for FOX59 in Indianapolis for three years. While there he covered the 2017 Presidential Inauguration, the 100th running of the Indy 500 and the sentencing of former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle. During his first year out of college, Kyle worked for NBC News in Washington, D.C. He was selected as the 2012 Tim Russert Fellow. As part of this program, Kyle Kyle Inskeep worked as a researcher for the network’s Local 12 “political unit,” assisted correspondents and field producers and worked alongside the Meet The Press digital team. Kyle graduated magna cum laude from Butler University with a degree in Electronic Journalism. He was on campus for both of the historic Final Four runs the Bulldogs made in 2010 and 2011. Born and raised in the Hoosier state, Kyle is thrilled to be living in Cincinnati! He’s looking forward to cheering on the Reds and Bengals. Plus, trying all local brunch hot spots.

WM T. (BILL) ROBINSON III NORTHERN KENTUCKY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARD

The Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III Northern Kentucky Economic Development Award, sponsored by Northern Kentucky Tri-ED, is presented annually to the individual, entity, company or organization demonstrating significant advancement of the economic development efforts in Northern Kentucky. The 2020 recipient of the award is Bill Butler. Bill Butler is the Chairman of the Board of Corporex Companies, LLC, the company he founded in 1965 that has since grown into a real estate and investment firm with $1 billion-plus in assets. For more than 55 years, Bill has been the driving force behind the Corporex Companies, whose projects include CirclePort in Erlanger, RiverCenter in Covington, and Ovation in Newport. As a civic leader, Bill is credited with leading early efforts toward regionalism, chairing the Economic Development Task Force Report which provided the first strategic vision for Northern Kentucky. He also donated his ownership interest in the Metropolitan Club – a world-class business/dining venue he launched – to three local charities. Dedicated to community service, Bill founded the Life Learning Center, The Butler Foundation (with his wife Sue) and is the founding Chairman of the Council of Trustees of the Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky. Additionally, he serves as a Trustee/Board member of several organizations, including but not limited to The United Way of Greater Cincinnati, the Lindner Center of Hope and the Catalytic Development Funding Corporation of Northern Kentucky. He is a member of the Northern Kentucky University Presidential Advisory Council and the United Way’s Million Dollar Roundtable. His efforts have earned him numerous honors for both his work and philanthropic endeavors including awards from the American Jewish Committee, the Kaufmann Institute and the United Way of Northern Kentucky among others. In 2017, he was recognized as a Great Living Cincinnatian by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, the same year he was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Business Hall of Fame. His success, dedication and ongoing efforts to improve the lives of Northern Kentuckians are why he is this year’s Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III Northern Kentucky Economic Development Award honoree. WALTER L. PIESCHEL AWARD

The Walter L. Pieschel (MVP) Award, sponsored by Duke Energy, is named in memory of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s first volunteer leader. The award recognizes an individual NKY Chamber member who has provided outstanding volunteer service to the Chamber as a committee member, chair or in any other special capacity during the past 12 months. Marianne Schmidt Hurtt is this year’s Walter L. Pieschel (MVP) award recipient. A member of Northern Kentucky’s financial services community for more than forty years, Marianne is a Senior Vice President & Regional Manager for PNC Bank where she is responsible for retail banking operations in Northern Kentucky and downtown Cincinnati. A longtime Chamber volunteer, Marianne serves as the Steering Committee Chair of GROW NKY, the region’s strategic workforce collective. Under her steady leadership, GROW NKY’s processes and procedures have been fine-tuned and have been used to help GROW NKY partners collaboratively navigate the uncertainty caused by the pandemic and the impact it has had on the region’s businesses and talent pipeline. The Horizon Award, presented by Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky, recognizes extraordinary contributions of an individual whom, through community leadership, exemplifies dedication, integrity and honorable service to Northern Kentucky. The recipient of this award has devoted their time, talents and expertise to serve the public good; in addition, they have made significant, demonstrable and direct contributions to the overall well-being of the community at large. Wilbert L. “Will” Ziegler, longstanding member of the Northern Kentucky law firm of Ziegler & Schneider, P.S.C., is the 2020 Horizon Award winner for these reasons and more. The eldest of four children, Will is a native of Northern Kentucky whose mother believed having boys work until they were too tired to do anything else was a good way to keep them out of mischief. That mantra of hard work led him to earn three college degrees before joining the law firm that now bears his name. Will’s civic and charitable contributions to Northern Kentucky are numerous in both nature and impact. This includes work as both an officer and director of the Northern Kentucky Industrial Foundation and serving as president of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce in 1978. In addition, Will was a key contributor to the formation and construction of the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. Likewise, he served 50 years as the General Counsel to the Kenton Co. Airport Board, operator of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Along with his close friend R.C. Durr (for whom he served as attorney for 40 years), he helped form The R. C. Durr Foundation in 1993 and today serves as the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer. Will also helped found The Bank of Kentucky, one of the most successful community banks in the country. A Life Fellow of the Kentucky Bar Foundation, his peers honored him with the Northern Kentucky Bar Association Distinguished Lawyer Award in 2009. He was awarded the Devou Cup by the Northern Kentucky Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation in 2016. Heralding him as a “longstanding, unwavering champion for the Northern Kentucky community,” Horizon Community Funds is honored to recognize Will Ziegler with the Horizon Award for his dedication and many significant contributions to the region.

DEVOU CUP Presented by the Northern Kentucky Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF), the Devou Cup honors the generosity of individuals who make a profound difference – now and into the future – in the quality of Northern Kentucky’s community life. This year’s Devou Cup recipients are Chuck and Julie Geisen Scheper, ardent supporters of numerous charities and community-centric organizations. Through their work together as caregivers, coaches and advocates to people with cancer and other serious medical conditions, they are true champions for Northern Kentucky. Julie has 25 years’ experience working in the counseling and mental health field, working at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Covington, as well as the DCCH Center for Children and Families at Brighton Center and Beech Acres. She has dedicated herself to focusing on education and social justice issues, primarily as a board member of Covington Partners, a nonprofit organization that provides tutoring, mentoring, fitness and enrichment programs for local youth. Chuck is Chairman of the Board of Bexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a bio-tech company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative cures for cancer. His business career included Chief Operating Officer at Great American Financial Resources, until his retirement in 2010. He also served as the interim Mayor of Covington in 2012. A cancer survivor, Chuck is active in helping others in their fight as a board member of the Cancer Support Community and like Julie, works as a mentor with Covington Partners. He is also a founding board member of Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky and Chair of Catalytic Development Fund of Northern Kentucky and the Covington Economic Development Authority. Jointly, they have been recognized with the NKY Chamber Walter R. Dunlevy/ Frontiersman Award, the Lincoln Award from Northern Kentucky University, and the Metropolitan Club Persons of the Year Award. They are also individual recipients of the Bishop Hughes Award from their alma mater, Thomas More University. The duo’s generosity and passion for service has been changing the lives of Northern Kentucky students, patients, and families in need for years.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER As Chief Operating Officer of the Cincinnati Reds, Phillip J. Castellini is responsible for all business and ballpark operations of the organization, including a primary focus on the growth of new revenue through ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and special events. During his tenure, Mr. Castellini has made fan engagement a priority throughout the organization. He successfully developed and produced the Reds commemoration of the Reds 150th Anniversary as the nation’s first professional baseball team throughout the 2019 season. Also in 2019, he orchestrated a seasonlong tribute and farewell to the career of Reds Hall of Fame radio broadcaster Marty Brennaman.

Philiip J. Castellini The Cincinnati Reds

As head of business operations, Mr. Castellini has led the planning and design of the extensive capital improvements in and around the ballpark. 2020 will be the debut of the new Press Club which is Great American Ball Park’s newest premium seating area featuring a premier vantage point behind home plate. In an area previously reserved for members of the media, this exclusive bourbon-themed club will be located in one of the most highly-coveted areas of the ballpark. The Press Club, like all his previous projects within the ballpark, was developed for the purpose of enhancing the fan experience. His commitment to fan entertainment reaches beyond the ballpark with the annual production of the best-in-class events such as Redsfest, the Opening Day Block Party, the Reds Caravan, the Hall of Fame Induction Gala, and numerous events for the Reds Community Fund. Mr. Castellini also plays a pivotal role in the club’s community efforts, serving as an executive committee board member for the Reds Community Fund. He assisted with the development of funding for the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy in Roselawn, which broke ground in 2013 and opened in 2014. Annually, Mr. Castellini and the Reds Community Fund invests with other local partners in a Community Makeover Project for the purpose of improving the lives of that community by providing facilities where youth can enjoy baseball and other needed services.

On the league-wide level, Mr. Castellini was instrumental in securing Cincinnati as the host city for the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. He also represents the Reds as one of eight teams on Major League Baseball’s Diversity & Inclusion and International Committees. After first joining the Reds following the 2005 season as Senior Director of Business Operations, Mr. Castellini was promoted to Senior Vice President of Business Operations in January 2007 before assuming his current position in January 2008. He reports directly to Reds CEO Bob Castellini and works closely with the ownership group. In addition to his Reds duties, Mr. Castellini is an active member of the Greater Cincinnati community. He is currently a member of institutions such as the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber Board, TriHealth, Inc. Board, Cincinnati Regional Business Committee (CRBC) Board, Young Presidents’ Organization, Commonwealth Club and Queen City Club. Since 1993 he also has served as President of Merchants Cold Storage in Walton, Kentucky. A graduate of Babson College, Mr. Castellini has a Bachelor of Science, Marketing and Entrepreneurial studies and a minor in literature. He also has attended post-graduate studies through the University of Pittsburgh’s Semester at Sea program. He and his wife Britt have five children: Lucia, Gabriella, Chloe, Millie and John James.

IMAGEMAKER AWARD The Northern Kentucky ImageMaker Award, sponsored by Humana, is presented on special occasions to an individual or individuals who have brought national or international attention to the Northern Kentucky community through their achievements. This year’s recipient is Gravity Diagnostics of Covington. Gravity Diagnostics is a full-service, state-of-the-art laboratory licensed nationwide that thrives on providing innovative testing. Founded in 2016, the company made headlines at the height of the current pandemic once they partnered with the Commonwealth of Kentucky to provide critical testing statewide. J.P. Canner, Gravity’s Vice President of Regulatory, Clinical and Research Programs first began tracking COVID-19 in late 2019, leading to the company developing testing that was ready by the onset of the pandemic. This led to FDA Emergency Use Authorization for the company’s testing, a meeting with Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack and Kroger, culminating in the establishment of drive-thru testing throughout the Commonwealth. All of the efforts resulted in 500,000 plus tests by this summer including samples collected from not just Kentucky, but across America, an epic milestone in the ongoing fight against coronavirus. Now, as their company continues to grow and expand, Gravity Diagnostics has helped to elevate the Northern Kentucky community on a national stage. Gravity’s success has resulted in the company expanding from one to two operations in Covington while building a new 32,000 square foot facility. This growth has also resulted in the company’s expansion from a few dozen to 200plus employees, bringing more talented young medical/scientific professionals and attention to the Northern Kentucky region. Gravity has extended its success to its employees, rewarding them with various gifts, services and even food trucks on Fridays to both preserve their culture and show appreciation for their long hours and hard work.

WALTER R. DUNLEVY/FRONTIERSMAN AWARD The Walter R. Dunlevy/Frontiersman Award, sponsored by St. Elizabeth Healthcare, was established in 1968 to annually recognize an individual with a lifelong history of outstanding service to the Northern Kentucky community. Additionally, the award recognizes the recipient’s outstanding service to their profession or industry as someone who also exemplifies the highest standard of personal integrity and family responsibility. For those reasons, Donna Salyers of Donna Salyers Fabulous-Furs has been named as this year’s Dunlevy/Frontiersman Award recipient. Beginning her company in 1989 in the basement of her Cincinnati home, Donna has grown Fabulous-Furs into a majority asset of the Salyers Group. The inspiration for the company came from Donna’s own desire to create an alternative to real animal fur without losing any of the luxury or prestige. A multi-channel company, Fabulous-Furs operates as the world’s finest faux fur company with products sold in 46 countries through catalog, wholesale and the Internet in 4,000 plus retail locations. This is all in addition to a successful launch on TVSN, the leading TV shopping network in Australia. FabulousFurs products have also been featured on multiple entertainment and media platforms including The View and The Sopranos as well as profiles in People Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. This is in addition to the 17 years she spent writing a syndicated newspaper column, eight books and hosting a national cable show. Donna’s investment and commitment to Northern Kentucky, however, remains steadfast. In addition to its Fabulous-Furs and Fabulous-Bridal Covington showroom, its parent company, The Salyers Group, opened Hotel Covington in 2017. Expansion is now underway to compliment the Madison Event Center, which it opened in 1989. Fabulous-Furs most recent contribution to the community saw the company take on a new role: Maker of personal protective equipment – PPE – in the form of reusable facemasks. The company transitioned from traditional business to make masks for the essential personnel at St. Elizabeth Healthcare at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, producing 1,500 masks in the first two-and-a-half days alone. UNITY AWARD The Northern Kentucky Unity Award, sponsored by PNC Bank, is presented to an individual or individuals who have shown leadership in bringing Northern Kentuckians together to address and solve common challenges and issues and have shown leadership in seeking regional solutions to Northern Kentucky’s challenges.
