NIOP CON 2025 was a tremendous success, bringing together nearly 500 attendees, including 414 industry professionals, for 2.5 days of networking, education, and industry insights. From engaging discussions on some of the most pressing topics in our sector to lively rounds of golf and pickleball, this year’s convention truly had something for everyone.
Attendees had the opportunity to connect with peers, gain valuable knowledge from expert-led sessions, and enjoy the stunning setting of Rancho Mirage, California.

This year’s NIOP CON delivered an outstanding lineup of educational programming, featuring industry experts tackling the most pressing topics in the oilseeds sector.
Keynote Address – Thomas Mielke: Global analyst Thomas Mielke provided a deep dive into the Global Oilseeds & Vegetable Oils Outlook, offering insights on supply, demand, and price trends shaping the market in 2025 and beyond.
Policy: Trump
Anthony Reed: This session explored the evolving landscape of renewable fuels policy, analyzing potential shifts in regulations and incentives under the new administration and Congress.
Bonus Session – Tariff Q&A + MAHA vs. Oilseeds - Denise Calle and Claudia Larson: Attendees gained valuable perspectives on the impact of tariffs, global trade challenges, and the MAHA vs. Oilseeds case, with an interactive Q&A to address key concerns.
WTF (What’s the Future) Panel - Bill Lapp, Steve Nicholson, and Dave Reeble: Industry leaders engaged in a forward-looking discussion, debating the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for global trade, policy, and market dynamics.

Hosted at the stunning Desert Willow Golf Course, golfers enjoyed not only a competitive and fun round of golf but also unbeatable networking opportunities with industry peers.

With perfect weather and breathtaking views, players teed off for a memorable experience, making connections and enjoying some friendly competition along the way.


Pickleball continues to gain momentum at NIOP CON, and this year’s event was our biggest yet! With 44 players double the number since its debut in 2023 attendees of all skill levels hit the courts for a mix of friendly competition and hands-on instruction.
More seasoned players enjoyed competition with one another, while our new-topickleball players learned from a pickleball professional!



Networking is at the heart of NIOP CON, and this year was no exception! As always, there were ample opportunities to connect and meet others in the industry at our social events, including the New Member + First-Time Attendee Reception with the NIOP Board of Directors, the lively Monday Night Dinner + Concert, the Block Party, the heartwarming Rescue Dog Recess, and the always-popular Beers with Peers just to name a few!
Whether catching up with longtime colleagues or making new industry connections, attendees had countless chances to engage, exchange ideas, and strengthen professional relationships.

The NIOP’s 2025 Introduction to the Oilseed Industry
Training is less than one month away, and we still have 8 seats open for Wednesday’s class If you’ve been thinking about registering, NOW is the time!
As the NIOP’s longest-running educational course, OIT consistently sells out well in advance each year. It’s your ultimate opportunity to build a strong foundation in all aspects of the oilseed industry while also connecting with industry peers. Taught by seasoned professionals, this course offers not just expert insights, but also the chance to engage, learn, and network with leaders in the field

This course is offered on two separate days: April 22 and 23. Both sessions cover the same content, providing more opportunities for attendees to participate. Class size is limited to 25 participants per day, with a maximum of three attendees per company per session, ensuring a more dynamic and engaging learning experience April 22 is sold out, but 8 seats are available on Wednesday (April 23)!




The NIOP is proud to give back to our members and invest in the future! Each year, we offer four scholarships to deserving children of NIOP members who are pursuing higher education.
This program is funded in memory of Mr Al Mogerley, a longtime NIOP member and mentor who left quite the legacy in the oilseed industry. The 2025 scholarship application is now live! If you have a child pursuing higher education or know someone in the NIOP community who does share this opportunity with them!

The NIOP Rules Committee has spent the past two years carefully reviewing and revising the NIOP Trading Rulebook. After extensive work, the committee has completed its updates!


On Tuesday, March 11, the Rules Committee (along with other NIOP members and leaders) met and unanimously approved the proposed updates to the Rulebook. This meeting was required by the NIOP Bylaws, marking the final step in the Rules Committee’s review process All NIOP members were encouraged to attend this meeting and ask any questions regarding the updates to the Rulebook.

On Tuesday, March 18, Rules Committee Chairman, Brett Peterson, asked the NIOP Board of Directors to approve the changes to the Rulebook. A motion was made, seconded, and carried to approve the updates.
We are now in a 30 day waiting period, in which the NIOP membership is able to submit any objections to the proposed Rulebook. This 30 day period will end on April 17, 2025. Any raised objections will be brought to the Rules Committee for their review and interpretation.

NIOP welcomed President and CEO of EOPA, Claudia Larson, to NIOP CON 2025 to discuss the recent criticisms of seed oils by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and others. Mrs. Larson shared EOPA’s stance on this pressing issue and offered attendees the following credible resources regarding seed oils and their health effects. This piece is very helpful for explaining various types of scientific evidence and how to consider all of the research collectively. This document goes through the science/research on seed oils, tackling concerns folks have raised with seed oils as well as the science which demonstrates seed oils are safe/healthful.
This document discusses potential harm to public health that could very well be caused if people stopped consuming seed oils, considering the health benefits people are currently receiving by consuming seed oils.
Here is a brief meta-analysis of sorts. Note - this was an industry funded project; however; the project was undertaken by independent, leading researchers on these topics.
