Earlier this month, the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS), in partnership with EOPA, hosted a virtual briefing designed to provide policymakers and congressional staff with evidence-based insights on seed oils and their role in human health. The session, held on August 14, 2025, featured leading academic researchers who shared the latest findings on the nutritional science surrounding seed oils.
The goal of the event was to highlight the strength of the scientific research community, ensuring that discussions around seed oils are grounded in academic expertise rather than misconceptions or industry skepticism.

The program, titled “Seed Oils: Understanding the Science,” included presentations from internationally recognized experts:
Dr. Eric Decker, Professor, Department of Food Science, University of Massachusetts Amherst
Dr. Martha Belury, Department Chair and Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, The Ohio State University
Lack of Evidence Linking Seed Oils to Inflammation in Human Clinical Trials
Professor Philip Calder, Professor of Nutritional Immunology, University of Southampton; Editor-in-Chief, Lipids
Ongoing Debate Around the Omega-6:Omega-3 Ratio
Dr. William Harris, Professor of Biomedical & Translational Sciences, University of South Dakota; President and Founder, Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI)
The session concluded with a live Q&A discussion, giving participants the opportunity to engage directly with the experts.

For those who missed the live event, the full recording is available online.

The Consumer Action for a Strong Economy (CASE) has released an independent analysis of the White House’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) report — and the findings raise serious concerns about the report’s credibility.

Key conclusions from CASE’s analysis:
➡ The MAHA report relies heavily on biased narrative reviews, contains citation errors, and even includes phantom references.
➡ It fails to meet the gold standard for scientific analysis as required by Executive Order 14212.
➡ Experts stress that policy must be grounded in reproducible, evidence-based science, not selective or misleading claims.
The oilseed industry, along with other stakeholders, has been vocal in challenging the MAHA report’s accuracy. This new CASE study reinforces the importance of ensuring that facts and science are at the forefront of policy discussions.
