As I look forward to my 33rd GNC conference, I am excited to reunite with friends and discuss our always evolving business. The conference is a great event where we can have constructive conversations with GNC leadership, learn about exciting plans GNC has for our company, identify strategies to address struggles we plan to solve with GNC and meet with vendors to learn how they plan to drive foot traffic to our stores.
As the NIOA enters our eighth year, I am proud to say we have made great strides as representatives for stores operated by NIOA members. We have accomplished a lot already and have plans to tackle each and every challenge we face as business owners and GNC franchisees. We have an amazing board that is dedicated to building and protecting the future success of our stores. We have confidence in and respect for GNC’s current leadership and take pride in the relationships we have built with them. While we don’t agree on everything, we have a common goal and that is to build sales and make GNC the destination for performance and wellness supplements. The NIOA wants to increase sales and profitability of our stores.
The NIOA is proud to finally have SFS as part of our business model. We pay a franchise fee to operate a business within a geographical area, we build that business and customer
base, we pay royalties to support the infrastructure of omni-channel sales, we pay for National Advertising which supports our website so we should never have lost customers to GNC. com. SFS has been a much-needed addition to mitigate declining in-store sales. We will continue to work on GNC’s proposed parameters to make sure they are reasonable, attainable and also show consideration for how it may affect the franchise business model.
At this point, we believe it is in the franchisee’s best interest to sign as many customers up for Loyalty so you can retain them as your customer. The NIOA and GNC leadership spoke at length about the type of price and promotional sensitive marketing that would be delivered to franchise customers. If you sign up a customer, you control the email messaging to that customer. The franchise email will be focused on non-promotional marketing with the option to include promotional information based on your decision to accept retail promotions in the Portal.
Profitability continues to be a priority in discussions between the NIOA and leadership. the NIOA is for the franchise system to attain 55+% margins and increase year-over-year sales. The cost of doing business continues to rise with both fixed and

variable costs increasing. Leadership understands the neverending BOGO is detrimental to the franchise system. We continue to urge GNC to explore different promotional strategies as well as provide creative solutions to keep these customers engaged and shopping in our stores without excessive discounts.
The NIOA has amazing relationships with many vendors. Our vendor sponsorship is at an all-time high with many brands expressing their desire to provide more support to the franchise community. Third party vendors drive customers into our stores with product innovation and marketing. We encourage members to visit the Sponsor Resource Library and

our vendors offer. We host vendor webinars which are an amazing opportunity for brands to share their enthusiasm with your team while providing valuable training to the members of our team who are helping our customers each and every day. We encourage franchisees to have their team join the webinars to experience the excitement and the chance to enter various giveaways which support overall employee morale. We encourage franchisees to communicate with vendors as they have tools to drive margin, support marketing efforts, provide training, create excitement in our stores, and much more!
continued from page 1
We encourage all franchisees to join the NIOA. The more members we have supporting the NIOA, the greater our impact can be. The NIOA is working hard to make your business more profitable to support the longevity of our stores’ success. We need your support.
I would like to thank our board members and others who play an active role in making the NIOA an integral and valuable part of GNC franchising. We look forward to a great conference and will see you on our next monthly Town Hall Call.
Our Mission Statement
The Association will respect, aid and empower the franchisor while pursuing initiatives to improve profitability, operations and the financial health and welfare of franchisees.

Dear Franchise Partners,
I’m excited to share that our 5Cs strategy is now underway. This is a 3–5-year plan. We have already begun implementing – and the early momentum is encouraging.
We just closed the first quarter with positive comps on the corporate side – the first time since 2023 – and improved comps with franchisees with a big help from franchise being equal to corporate on the Ship from Store. We are seeing significant increase in Ship from Store from our franchisees, as well as seeing an increase in franchisees signing up loyalty members. Your efforts are making a difference. I’d like to take a moment to update you on two important elements of our 5Cs strategy: Categories with a focus on Active Nutrition and Consumer/Why GNC with a focus on loyalty and Pro membership sign-ups.
As a reminder, the 5 key drivers of the 5Cs strategy include: Culture, Consumer Focus – Why GNC, Categories, Countries, and Cost Savings.
Categories – Initial Focus on Active Nutrition
As part of the 5Cs, we are focusing on five consumer-led demand spaces, and we have kicked off the first focus on Active Nutrition. We chose this demand space first, as it is our largest and where GNC has historically had strength.
The approach and focus are multi-faceted and some of the actions you may notice include:
▪ Marketing focus on the Active Nutrition consumers – men and women looking for solutions to improve strength and fuel their workouts with dedicated focused campaigns for GNC AMP Wheybolic and Beyond Raw Lit.
▪ A GNC.com web takeover focused on product-first messaging (vs. promo).
COSTELLO

▪ A sharper in-store focus on selling Active Nutrition, especially highlighting Wheybolic and Lit.
▪ Digital media focused on Active Nutrition.
▪ A limited-time product launch on Lit Flavor and Color Changing innovation.
▪ Launch of new Lit flavors.
▪ Basket-building efforts featuring GNC Products to Win, including multivitamins, Vitapaks and fish oil.
▪ New and exclusive third-party product launches.
Consumer Focus/Why GNC-Loyalty & Pro Sign-ups
I want to thank the franchise community for your efforts in improving loyalty sign-ups — it’s driving our ability to better serve and connect with customers. As a friendly reminder, please ensure that loyalty members are looked up during every transaction, so their customer assignment remains tied to your store.
Additionally, we ask that you please drive Pro sign-ups for members who are Pro potential — those whose spending levels are high enough for them to truly benefit from the program.
The reason we want you to focus on increasing free loyalty sign-ups is because improved loyalty numbers allow us to:
1. Increase Customer Loyalty: Creates a sense of exclusivity and belonging among customers. When customers feel valued and appreciated, they are more likely to return to the franchise, leading to repeat visits and sustained loyalty.
2. Enhance Customer Engagement: Reward programs provide franchisees with opportunities to engage customers through personalized rewards, discounts, and special promotions.
3. Increase Store Visits: Franchisees can offer exclusive in-store benefits to reward program members, such as priority access to new products, special events, and personalized consultations. Additionally, franchisees can introduce incentives like additional store visits when members sign up, encouraging frequent visits, and sustained engagement.
4. Gain Valuable Data Insights: Reward programs provide franchisees with valuable data on customer preferences, behaviors, and purchasing patterns. By analyzing this data, franchisees can tailor their offerings to meet the specific needs of their members, enhancing the overall customer experience.
5. Community Building: Reward programs create a sense of community among members. Franchisees can organize exclusive events, workshops, and meet-ups for members, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie. These activities strengthen the bond between the franchise and its (members) customers, encouraging regular store visits.
In short, reward programs offer a strategic advantage to franchisees--boosting customer loyalty, engagement, and store visits, all while equipping us with valuable data insights to serve customers even better.
I couldn’t be more optimistic about what’s ahead and I encourage you to keep the momentum going. By supporting and focusing on Active Nutrition and growing our loyalty programs, we will set the stage for even greater success.
Thank you for your partnership!
Live Well,

Michael Costello CEO, GNC

Best known for his unfiltered online presence and fiercely loyal fan base, Seth Feroce’s supplement brand, AXE & SLEDGE, has become a standout in our industry.

But it wasn’t always business acumen and internet fame. Seth’s journey began with a deep love for bodybuilding and a desire to build something real, born out of both success and disruption.
From the moment we began chatting, it was clear that this is a man who has lived through the grind, pivoted, and rebuilt everything from the ground up – twice.
We started our discussion with a peak into the Axe & Sledge’s newest chapter and their reemergence into the GNC atmosphere over the last year.
Question: I was curious if you think of this as a chapter two for the brand or if it’s more of a continuation of the first chapter?
Seth: No, you could term it however you would like, either a new chapter or a new book, if you will. A new book, simply because of what I’ve learned. I’ve been in this industry for quite a bit now, and I’ve learned that relationships are vital. Being a good human being, working hard, keeping those relationships, and even having hard conversations when they come about. Don’t run away from them,
but have them and continue to move forward. But I look at this as a whole new book for us.
We also have a new team of people. Myself at the front end, the face of the company and acting CEO. We have Shane, who is our President/ COO. He makes sure everything is smooth running from an operations standpoint. We have David, who we brought in as Vice President of Sales. We have my business partner, Bob, who runs all of graphic design and marketing. And we have just brought in a VP of Marketing, Caleb.
This new book that we have is an allstar team for Axe & Sledge to get to the level that we should be at, the level that excites everyone. Not just us, but our consumers, supporters, franchises, and corporate.
Our goal is to get to this new level with innovation, excitement, content - all of it. Because what I’ve learned over this time is, no matter how special or wonderful I think I am, you can’t get there alone. That’s where the relationships are so important.
Question: Do you guys have a unified theme, mission, statement, anything that you feel like you band around?
Seth: Yeah, I mean, it’s a little vulgar. It’s a little intense. It’s legitimately my philosophy on life. I have this outlook because I never really thought of myself as the tall, dark, and handsome drink of water that was ‘the thing’. I’m five foot six. I’m short. I’m a little widewaisted. A lot of people didn’t expect me to be in the position that I am.
My dad termed himself a hardworking family man. And I’m a hardworking
motherf*cker. I am, through and through. I don’t have problems, just more work to do. And that concept has resonated with our people, that simple statement.
Because we all have struggles in life. So, whenever I tell people, hey, I know life is kind of kicking you in the balls right now. It really hurts. You don’t like it. You just keep getting beaten down and beaten down. But keep your head up and continue to go to work. It will pay off.
So that hard-working motherf*cker mentality is, you don’t have problems, just more work to do.
Question: You have an apparel brand – All American Roughneck. A supplement brand – Axe & Sledge. An energy drink brand – Just Wrk. Not to mention kids and a gymnastics studio! With so many businesses, family, and your role as the face of the brands — how do you manage balance in your life?
Seth: The truth? The balance is complete chaos. There’s no perfect system. It’s messy. But I have a great team and an amazing wife. We prioritize what matters, shift when we need to, and just keep moving. You need to take time to realign yourself and be like, I did this to myself. I am successful.
Question: Success is self-inflicted?
Seth: Yes. All of it.
Question: So where did it all start? Where did the original idea for All American Roughneck come from and how did it grow into the multi-brand success you have now?
Seth: My dad owned a cabinet company for about 43 years. He took it over from his father. So I grew up blue collar. I’m the oldest son. I started going to work with him when I was like 11/12 years old on the weekends. And by the time I was 14, like in ninth grade, that’s whenever I started working full time for him in the summertime. So, I was working 4050 hours a week as a young teenager making 10 bucks an hour. And I’m like, man, I got all kinds of money.
I didn’t end up taking over the business. My dad didn’t let me. He wanted me to go to college and get an opportunity, which he and I butted heads quite a bit. But in 2015, social media was popping off. And I saw a lot of the entrepreneurs with Lamborghinis and Rolexes, ‘look at me, I’m so cool thing.’ And making kids think, this is what you should aspire to. And I think you can have aspirations in life. But don’t be ashamed to be a hardworking mother*cker.

Don’t be ashamed to be somebody that works hard for your family, loves your family, and puts money towards them rather than yourself. Take pride in what you’re doing and who you are. That’s whenever I wanted to create a company that spoke to and celebrated the hardworking American family man. Axe & Sledge we launched in 2018 and Just Wrk in 2023.
Question: I know that we are not supposed to have favorites amongst our children. And I imagine that your formulations are similar - you’re not supposed to have a favorite product. But if you had to pick, what are your top three products?
Seth: Okay. I don’t care what anybody says. You do have favorite kids. That’s a joke. They’re all special in their own way.
1. Hydraulic will always be my product. It will always be my goto. I’m a non-stim pre-workout guy. That’s the meathead in me. Because I used to train super late at night and couldn’t be stimmed out of my mind because I couldn’t go to bed. I had to be effective. And the

concept behind hydraulic was to be a full panel pre-workout, front to back, make you feel like you took a pre-workout, but not stim you out of your mind where you couldn’t go to bed at night.
2. HWMF was designed for the people who love stimulants, but the performance side is what plays the role. Not only the feeling, but a performance pre-workout. Because it is legitimately designed to put you on a new level from a mental standpoint, and help you perform at a high level as well. That one is very intense, designed for the people that love stimulants.
3. Demo Day is one of the best formulated products that we’ve ever done. It is, I think, the best carb powder on the market. We sell a lot, a lot of carbohydrate powder. It’s kind of ridiculous. And it’s because of the uniqueness of the formula.
I have a term in all my YouTube videos, ‘you shit the bed during your workout’. All of the sudden you hit this brick wall, and you’re like, I had everything going, and then all of a sudden, I just stopped being able to perform at this high level. Demo Day is designed to enhance your pump, enhance your workout, and increase the longevity of your workout so you don’t hit that brick wall.
Question: Your entire brand messaging is around appealing to the everyday man. So you have to keep your price points down, but then you have to keep the quality of your ingredients up. All while manufacturing in the US. That’s such a tricky balance. How do you accomplish that?
Seth: I’m very particular about the details. So my dad taught me at an early age that all of the little crumbs are all over the place. And you might think that this crumb today and this crumb tomorrow isn’t anything because it’s a crumb. But if you pay attention to all those crumbs, at the end of the year or the end of a job, those crumbs turn into a pile. And that pile could end up being relatively significant and having an impact.
So paying attention to the details and making sure that we stay true to our brand and true to who we are. And it’s super difficult whenever there are a lot of companies out there that would just be like, you know what? I’m going to go get the lesser whey protein isolate and no one’s going to know the difference. I could be like, yeah, give me the cheapest thing right now and they’d be like, you got it, Mr. Feroce. That’s what’s difficult about it. But I’m not doing that. I’m very particular about the quality of everything. Because it’s the longevity of a brand.
Question: What’s the story behind the name and branding for Axe & Sledge?
Seth: I always wanted to have an iconic logo. I never thought I’d own a supplement company, but I wanted to have a logo that signified who I was as a person and who I was representing.
I remember doing the most difficult, ugly work to make ends meet. And it was usually swinging a sledgehammer. If you’ve ever done it for an eight-hour day, dude, it’s horrendous. Your hands hurt, your back hurts. Everything. But then after that, the next day, you have to wake up and go do it again. And
your hands hurt, your body hurts. And you’re like, I have to do this because this is how I’m providing for my family and this is what the job is, it needs to be done. And then you do it again for a third day in a row and you’re like, oh my God.
So the significance of the Axe & Sledge is swinging those two tools on those really hard days, I will never forget. So they’re the two hardest working tools I’ve ever used as a young man.
AXE & SLEDGE isn’t built on gimmicks. It’s built on the values that mirror Seth’s personality—hard work, transparency, and never forgetting where you came from. “Blue collar mentality. That’s what we’re about. We want to work for what we have, and we
want people to know it’s authentic,” he says. It’s not just about lifting heavy— it’s about lifting with purpose.
Blue collar mentality. That’s what we’re about. We want to work for what we have, and we want people to know it’s authentic.
Seth’s grounded commitment to function over flash has resonated deeply with his audience, which has grown from bodybuilding fans to a tight-knit community of everyday grinders.
And as he looks ahead, Seth isn’t just chasing profit—he’s nurturing a

legacy. “I want to be remembered as somebody who didn’t bullshit people... I want my kids to be proud,” he says. That vision—rooted in fatherhood, discipline, and being real with yourself—is what fuels him day in and day out.
Axe & Sledge’s story is still being written, but one thing is clear: Seth and his team are not slowing down, and they’re not selling out. “We make products that I use, that my team uses. We’re not trying to be the biggest company, we’re trying to be the best,”.
If you haven’t yet met Seth and his team, they’ll be at GNC Convention Booth 217. For more information, please contact david@axeandsledge. com.

The food and dietary supplement industry is on the cusp of transformative trends that reflect evolving consumer demands, scientific breakthroughs, and regulatory changes. For 2025, innovation will center around personalization, sustainability, and holistic health. Here’s a look at the top 10 trends shaping the landscape for formulators, manufacturers, and marketers.
Protein continues to dominate consumer interest, but the emphasis is shifting toward diversified and functional sources. Beyond traditional whey and soy, novel proteins such as mycoproteins, chickpea protein, and fava bean protein are gaining traction. Consumers are also seeking less processed, clean-label plant proteins with fewer additives and stripped-back ingredient lists. Additionally, products catering to specific demographics, such as GLP1 medication users who require high-protein diets, will see targeted innovation (more on that later).
The link between gut health and overall well-being is now firmly established, making it a cornerstone of ingredient development. Probiotic strains tailored to specific health benefits, such as improved immunity, mental health, and metabolic support, will see increased demand. Prebiotic ingredients like chicory root fiber, resistant starches, and acacia gum are gaining momentum as consumers become more aware of the need to support a balanced gut microbiome. Fermented foods and postbiotics will also be key areas of innovation.
Mental wellness continues to be a critical focus for consumers, driving demand for ingredients that support cognitive function and emotional resilience. Nootropic ingredients like ashwagandha, lion’s mane mushroom, and L-theanine are expected to proliferate. Adaptogens and botanicals aimed at reducing stress, improving focus, and enhancing mood will remain highly desirable, especially in formulations that integrate into daily routines, such as beverages and snacks.
Despite the growing awareness of gut health, fiber consumption remains woefully inadequate in most diets. The next wave of products will focus on delivering palatable and functional sources of fiber, such as psyllium husk and inulin. Functional foods and beverages with added fiber will expand, targeting benefits such as satiety, weight management, and improved digestion.
The rise of GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as semaglutide, for weight management and diabetes has created a unique consumer base with specialized nutritional needs. Products that address the side effects of these medications, such as appetite control, nausea, and nutrient absorption, will gain popularity. Highprotein, nutrient-dense, and easily digestible foods and supplements will be key offerings.

With increasing regulatory scrutiny and health-conscious consumers, salt and sugar reduction will remain top priorities for formulators. Ingredients like monk fruit, allulose, and stevia will continue to dominate natural sweetener innovation. Advances in taste modulation and salt replacers, such as potassium chloride and yeast extracts, will help brands reduce these ingredients without sacrificing flavor.
As regulatory landscapes evolve, the use of artificial food dyes and other additives is facing scrutiny. The FDA’s focus on food safety, coupled with pressure from advocacy groups, may lead to restrictions or bans on certain synthetic dyes, emulsifiers, and preservatives. Clean-label alternatives, such as turmeric or beetbased natural colorings, will grow in demand. For formulators, transparency will be essential to building consumer trust.
Women are increasingly seeking tailored solutions for their unique nutritional needs, from reproductive health to menopause support. Ingredients such as folate, iron, magnesium, and phytoestrogens will see heightened demand. Additionally, collagen peptides for skin, hair, and joint health are gaining popularity. Products designed for hormonal balance and addressing conditions like PCOS or perimenopause will present lucrative opportunities for brands.

Creatine, long associated with sports nutrition, is breaking into new markets, including cognitive health and anti-aging. Emerging research highlights creatine’s benefits for brain function, energy metabolism, and muscle preservation in aging populations. Expect to see creatine in functional foods, beverages, and supplements targeting a broader demographic, including seniors and wellness-focused individuals.
As sleep becomes a critical pillar of overall health, consumers are turning to products that help them unwind and achieve better rest. Ingredients like melatonin, magnesium glycinate, GABA, and valerian root are leading the charge. The trend extends beyond pills into sleep-enhancing teas, gummies, and functional snacks. Formulators should focus on blends that provide relaxation and improve sleep quality without grogginess.
To capitalize on these trends, companies must balance innovation with transparency and sustainability. Here are a few considerations:
1. Personalization:
Consumers are increasingly expecting products tailored to their specific needs, whether it’s highprotein snacks for GLP-1 users or gut health supplements with precise strains of probiotics.
4. Clean Labeling: Transparency in ingredient sourcing, processing, and functionality will resonate with educated consumers seeking authenticity.

2. Sustainability: Plant-based and sustainably sourced ingredients are non-negotiable for environmentally conscious consumers. Highlighting eco-friendly practices can differentiate brands in a crowded market.
3. Regulatory Readiness: With potential regulatory changes looming, staying ahead of compliance requirements will be critical for avoiding disruptions.
5. Multi-Benefit Formulations:
Products offering multiple benefits, such as a protein shake with added probiotics and nootropics, will appeal to busy consumers looking for all-in-one solutions.
The food and dietary supplement industries in 2025 will be shaped by a convergence of health, sustainability, and innovation. Formulators, manufacturers, and marketers who anticipate these trends and invest in science-backed, consumer-driven solutions will thrive in a rapidly evolving landscape. From protein diversification to mental wellness and sleep support, the opportunities for growth are immense—and the time to act is now.
