General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION: The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle, Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The Market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. VIEWING - The Sale Sheep will be available for viewing at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on the morning of the sale, or Prior Inspection of the sheep is most welcome by appointment with the vendors (see page 1). CONDITIONS OF SALE - Sold under the conditions of sale as recommended by The Livestock Auctioneers' Association. METHOD OF SALE - All sheep will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly on catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers. COMMISSIONS - The Auctioneers will dutifully execute commissions to purchase for buyers unable to attend and the sale personally,, upon receipt of written instructions. SETTLEMENT AND CLEARANCE OF STOCK - Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of Sale. The aim of EBVs are to allow buyers to see how much of an animal’s performance is due to its breeding (genetics) and how much has been influenced by the environment that they have been kept in – management, feeding, farm location, housing etc An animal will pass on half of its genetic merit to its offspring. e.g., if Ram A has a Scan Weight of +3.33 then his progeny at scanning will be over 1.5kg heavier than average CONDITIONS OF SALE

RUGLEY FLOCK EA & L Jackson
The Rugley Texel Flock was established in 1992, the aim has always been to produce fast growing sheep with good carcasses for sale at Kelso. Recording has been used as a tool to measure performance and the best ram lambs have been CT scanned for 20 years. Selection has been for sheep with high growth rates, good loins and gigots. In 2018 half the flock was in the top 1% on Index, this has altered due to changes in performance figures, where the emphasis has moved from growth to muscle. AI has been used to increase the genetic pool with sons retained in the flock. Alan and Lorna are retiring, and Lucy is taking over the tenancy at Rugley, she is keeping 14 ewes with the remainder being offered for sale. We would like to thank you for your support and hope the sheep are successful for their new owners. FLOCK HEALTH STATUS MV Accredited, last tested 2019 All gimmers vaccinated with Cevac and Toxovax. All have been injected with Bravoxin 10 and Ovipast. They will be injected with Cydectin 2% prior to sale. Scanning results are believed to be correct but not guaranteed. HANDBANK FLOCK RM & EA Payne & Son
THE HANDBANK FLOCK The flock was founded in 1981 and we started recording with Sheep-breeder in 1986. In 1991 Elite Texel Sires was formed and we joined the following year and have been recording on an “across-flock” basis ever since – initially with Signet and more recently with iTexel. Our aim has always been to produce sheep with good muscle and carcase conformation whose progeny will grow fast. For many years we entered the carcase competitions at Great Yorksshire Show and were almost always placed and had the Champion carcase in 1991 and the Reserve Champion in 2000. We produce breeding shearling rams for the modern commercial farmer as demonstrated by achieving 1st prize recorded shearling at the 2019 NATSB club sale. In the past we have sold semen into Norway, Belgium, USA and have sold a ram into Holland. M o r e recently, in 2017 – the first year of the RamCompare project – our ram Handbank Werewolf (PRH15 00573) was the “Leading Ram For Overall Carcase Merit”; and in 2018 Handbank Super Nova was also placed top. Scanning will take place on 23rd December and the results will be available on the day of sale. Flock Health Status • All gimmers have been vaccinated for Enzovax and Toxovax pre-tupping. • All sheep catalogued are vaccinated with Scabivax as lambs and are on the Heptavac-P system. • All sheep as lambs have the necessary treatments against coccidiosis and both nematodirus and round worms. A clear up does of zolvix is used in the Autumn. Flies are controlled with ectofly. • Trace elements are optimised by optimised by using Premier Lamb and Sheep with copper. • Foot health is maintained by regular foot bathing in zinc sulphate. • Apart from purchasing breeding rams the flock is now closed.
