General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION: The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA1 2RS. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. VIEWING: The Sale Cattle will be available for viewing at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Thursday 17th August from 4pm - 7pm and morning of sale. HOTELS: There are many hotels within the area, ranging from four star to excellent Bed and Breakfast accommodation, a list of which may be found on page 4 of the catalogue. CONDITIONS OF SALE: The British Limousin Cattle Society have adopted the Auction Rules and Conditions of Sale drawn up by the N.B.A. This Sale is held subject to these rules and the Auctioneers’ General Conditions of Sale, both available on request. In the event of any discrepancy between the two sets of conditions, the N.B.A. Conditions of Sale shall prevail. Dispersal Sale of the
REDLAND HERD on behalf of Messrs. RM & HJ Lewis After many years of farming and producing quality pedigree livestock a decision has been made by Mark and Helen Lewis, to now retire from farming. As a result of this decision we are now dispersing our Redland Herd of Pedigree Limousin Cattle. The Redland Herd was established in 1999 with the purchase of Fleethill Denim, a daughter of the renowned cow Fleethill Rosette. Along with this purchase two other cattle Penyparc Levi, a daughter of Denim by Bailea Hudson and Penyparc Olsen a daughter of Denim by Greensons Gigolo. Additional cattle were purchased privately and these were Fleethill Meggie and Bowers Laura. This was the initial foundation of the herd and daughters from these breeding lines are now well established in the herd today. In the early days cattle were AI’d to French sires purchased from Richard Beale at Stanford Livestock, Flasch (sire of Ideal 23) was initially used producing some excellent females with size, good frames with excellent confirmation and style, milking quality were also important. The herd further developed when Mark and Helen (Nattress) married in 2002 and purchased their next stock sire Greenwell Rooney a Master / Daim combination, he was used successively for 3 years until he was sold privately for £5,000. Greenwell Rooney went on to produce some fantastic breeding females in the herd; these were Redland Tina, Redland Tiffany, Redland Tanya and Redland Tara. First son sold in 2004 in Carlisle for 5,000gns. Their next purchase was the new stock sire Goldies Terry he was a son of ideal 23 out of the French cow Beresina. Terry was purchased in Carlisle for 7,000gns. This bull’s genetics fit in well with the genetics of Rooney. Terry produced easy fleshing bulls and females, again with good confirmation and milking qualities and his sons regularly sold between 4,000gns and 8,000gns. The next stock sire purchased from Carlisle was Goldies Valmet he was a son of Greenwell Major (son of Igolo) out of Jacinthe. Mark and Helen then went to France to purchase their next stock sire, he was Bouquet (Tamis / Sirene) purchased from Gilles Dumond at Lanaud test station (qualified RJ) for 14,000 euros. Bouquet was used extensively across the herd and has sold sons to £8,500 and daughters to £5,500. He was bought for his mixture of muscle and growth with good confirmation and milking qualities. He crossed well with the daughters of all the former sires used previously in the herd.
9 Since then all sires have been purchased in France, privately and also through sales arranged by KBS, Interlim and Sofrelim. They include: Eldorado – Neuf – Torride an Omer daughter – bull purchased from Bourdarias family. Eldorado was Reserve Intermediate at 40th anniversary show in 2011 in Carlisle. Ecu – Casimir 1932627002 – Alezane – bull purchased from Jean Jacques Bros. Ecu was Intermediate Champion at Royal Welsh Show in 2012. Heron – Diego LEB – Bussy – bull purchased from Gaec Lebourg. Lasso – Herold – Heliane – bull purchased from Jerome Deconchat. During the purchases the stock bulls have been bought for the growth, muscle and milk production. Always selecting animals with good confirmation, a good frame and width of pelvis, with a good level topline and tail set. Legs are also important and the animal must have good mobility. Herd Health Status: • Member of Hi Health Herdcare Cattle Health Scheme • From a 4 yearly TB testing area – tested clear 19/12/2016 • Accredited free BVD and Leptospirosis since 04/11/2013

Dispersal Sale of the
CASTLENOOK HERD on behalf of Mr A Irving Welcome to the Castlenook Dispersal Sale. It all began in 2004, when after ceasing milk production, we were looking to purchase a small herd of Limousin cattle. However, at the Carlisle Sale in May 2004 we purchased the outstanding Ronick Sandra (a full sister to Ronick Hawk) for 8000gns, along with her bull calf at foot (Goldies Unsung Hero) which later sold for 4000gns. We then subsequently purchased Ronick Trim, Cracrop Tandy and Hazelhead Annette. Sandra never bred another bull calf but proved to be an excellent female breeder, her daughters forming the backbone of our small herd. To keep female numbers manageable, we recently started to sell female descendants, notably Castlenook Iphigenia, to the Ardlea Herd for 8000gns. In 2014, after previously using AI and having had a period of ill health, we purchased a stock bull, namely Feroce (a son of Vivaldi) from the Lodge herd. Castlenook Lulu being his first pure daughter, sold in February 2017 for 3000gns and Limousin cross heifers and calves, sired by Feroce, selling successfully at Borderway to average £2350. Unfortunately this spring Feroce has not been very fertile, hence time has been lost with some cows. Herd Health Status - the herd is in a 4 year TB testing area and a member of the SAC Premium Health Scheme for Johne’s disease, being Johnes Risk Level 1 since 2010. All cattle are vaccinated annually for BVD and Lepto and have all been pre-sale BVD blood tested. All cattle will be scanned prior to sale day and results will be announced at time of sale. Winter/Autumn Calving Portion from the
DYKE HERD on behalf of Messrs JR MacGregor We are offering for sale the Autumn/Winter calving portion of the Dyke Limousin herd in attempt to restructure the business and change the direction of the farm policy slightly. The Dyke Limousin herd was established in 1991 when three separate businesses were formed after being split up from the encapsulating business of Duncan MacGregor Allanfauld to give three families the chance to control their own enterprises. The herd was started with cattle from the Allanfauld herd and Dunmor herd in Mull, with later a dditions from the Ronick, Middledale and Parkhouse Herds. The herd has been closed since 2009 apart from the addition of bulls to give paramount importance to herd health. The herd is currently Hi-Health being Johnes risk level 1, BVD accredited and from a TB4 area. With the cows run at Dyke Farm which rises to 1800 feet we've always tried to keep medium sized easily fleshed cows with easy calving strains particularly important. Over the years we've had increasing success at the bull sales with the herds top price to date being 11,000gns for Dyke Fugitive, other sales include 10,000gns Dyke Frosty and Dyke Galaxy, 9500gns Dyke Bennevis, 9000gns Dyke Bingo and Dyke Gambler, 8500gns Dyke Highlander and Dyke Envoy. We've always tried to select stock bulls to compliment the cows within the herd, previous stock bulls include: BAILEA IMIJ: joint purchase, a Greensons Gigolo son and previous breed record holder at 17,000gns. HALTCLIFFE PRESIDENT: 10,000gns joint purchase, a Greenwell Major son who had a massive impact on the herd, sons sold to 7000gns for Dyke Triumph who in turn sired commercial calves to ÂŁ7000. ARDBRACK TAKETIME: 11,000gns joint purchase, Reserve Overall Champion Carlisle February 2004, Beefbreeder Champion Royal Highland Show 2004. Sons sold to 9500gns for Dyke Bennevis, and 9000gns Dyke Bingo. CAPPADUFF AARON: joint private purchase in Ireland, left many good females in the herd and bulls sold to 6000gns for Dyke Delta.
