Sale Information INSPECTION: All sheep forward for sale will be subject to a Society Inspection. Any animal which does not reach the Inspection standard will have a red mark put on their back, these animals will not be allowed to be sold and must be removed from the Sale pens immediately. Substitute lots will be given a coloured neck tie at the time of inspection. The inspector’s decision will be final. CONDITIONS OF SALE: Sold under the British Berrichon Sheep Society Sale Rules and the Livestock Auctioneers Terms & Conditions of Sale. All sheep will be sold in guineas. A commission will be charged at 5% on all sheep. The pedigree and descriptions of the lots are believed to be correct, but are not intended as a warranty, and therefore shall be taken with all faults and errors of description. SUBSTITUTES: Due to restrictions at sales this year, Vendors will be allowed to substitute 1 animal in each class of the sale. Substitutes must be notified to the Secretary 48 hours prior to the sale and these animals will have a coloured neck tie placed on them at the time of Inspection. Substitutes not notified to the Secretary will not be permitted for sale and must be removed from the sale area. All sheep must be tagged in accordance with the relevant DEFRA regulations. The Vendor shall be responsible for the correctness of identity and animals individual pedigree number must be printed on their tag. The vendor shall be responsible for all faults. CARLISLE AUTUMN PEDIGREE/REGISTERED SHEEP SALES 2020 GENERAL INFORMATION FOR VENDORS & PURCHASERS
As the Government Guidelines will reduce the volume of buyers being able to attend the sale, below are points we ask for your co-operation in order for the running of Live Sales. This information is correct at the time of printing and is subject to changes in Government Guidelines or Directives regarding the control of the spread of COVID-19. GENERAL INFORMATION for all parties: • Potential purchasers MUST REGISTER with Harrison & Hetherington Ltd prior to the sale and again upon entry to the market - tel: 01228 406200 or email: info@borderway.com • Please remember that purchaser spaces will be limited, so only ONE person per business will be permitted entry. • Face coverings are mandatory for all persons entering the mart. These must be worn without exception while in the market including the sales rings and pens. • 2m social distancing must be observed wherever possible. • Viewing will be regulated by a one-way system throughout the mart and is to be permitted for registered buyers only. Please refer to individual sales for the respective Viewing days and times. • To facilitate the Test and Trace system, all customers/visitors will be required to sign into the market. This process will include a declaration that they have not been in contact with anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19, nor are displaying symptoms personally. • No children under 16 years old will be able to attend the sales and this must be strictly adhered to as entry will be refused. • Pregnant ladies must not attend the sale. • Hand sanitiser stations will be available throughout the mart; however, it is strongly recommended that both consignors and buyers have an adequate personal supply and to use it regularly. • Please follow instructions from market staff and security staff. A private security firm will be in attendance to assist H&H in ensuring social distancing is observed wherever possible.

They will be able to care for the consignment(s) forward for sale, also prepare the sheep for the sale ring. Only one person will be allowed to show the animals in the sale ring. • At all times Vendors must adhere to the social distancing regulations, particularly whilst the society inspection procedures are taking place and also whilst buyers are viewing the sale sheep. • Only one vendor will be able to accompany their consignment to the sale ring (along with one member of the H&H staff) and then return them back to their pen. • A buyers viewing period of the sheep – 10.00am-12 Noon on the morning of the sale - will be regulated by a one way system through the market pennage area and is permitted for registered buyers only. Please ensure all documentation is provided when you arrive at the market, ie - current Movement Licence and a current Maedi Visna certificate/Health Status report. Any vendor with the incorrect documentation will be refused entry. Any vendor wishing to offer sheep for direct Northern Ireland purchase must complete the enclosed form, and must also arrange for your veterinary surgeon to carry out a flock inspection and complete the bottom section of the enclosed form. This form must accompany your sheep to the market.

Newark Flock: The Newark Flock was established in 1991 with a ewe purchased at the Carlisle Sale, followed by 2 gimmers the following year. Since then the flock has been a closed flock. Rakefoot Commander, Kietle Adonis both Carlisle Champions and a tup from Inkerman who returned to Newark a few years after selling at 1800gns in Carlisle, were a big influence on our flock. Our own homebred tup NEW/05/055 has also left his mark through the stock. We have sold tups at Carlisle every year since 1993 and many have gone on to do well for their new owners including Newark Henry to the Statesman Flock, Newark Big Boy to Strathallan Flock, Newark Kaiser to Criffle Flock and Newark Maximus to Goitre Flock. Berrichon classes were reinstalled at the RHS in 2007 and a Newark ewe has been Chsmpion in 2012, 2015 and 2017. Our Shearlings today go back to 2 separate RHS Champions.
Rakefoot Flock The Rakefoot flock was established in 1991 making it one of the oldest flocks in the country. Rakefoot is a lake district hill farm so the emphasis has always been on trying to breed sheep that go away and thrive in any system.
