General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION - The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The Market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. TIMETABLE OF EVENTS Thursday 9th December

Arrival of Stock 9.30am – 11.00am Inspection 10.30am – 12noon Sale 2.00pm

Terms & Conditions KHFBS RULING All sheep entered for sale will be inspected by inspectors appointed by the society. Any sheep found not meeting breed or health standards, and not tagged with the correct numbers will be rejected. Rejected sheep will be identified and marked with a purple mark on the top of the head. The vendor will be asked to remove the said sheep from the sale yard prior to the sale commencing. The auctioneer will not be permitted to sell such sheep. The Inspectors decision is final; purchasers are advised to do their own inspection before purchase. All sheep entered for sale will have been registered by the vendor. All sheep must be clearly stencilled with their lot number before entering the sale yard. Vendors are responsible for bringing up their sheep to the holding pens. Covid 19 restriction must be adhered to as directed by Harrison & Hetherington on the day of the sale.

PRESENT DAY KERRY HILL SHEEp Markings – The sheep should have a black and white face, odd spot on face acceptable considering the breed. Legs should be black and white. Ears – Black, Black and White or White. Medium length, set high, free from wool. Neck – Strong and muscular, well set into the shoulders. Throat – Nicely curved and woolled, with no loose skin. Teeth – Not overshot or undershot. Incisor teeth must bite on all inner surfaces. Horns – Can occur genetically – but not desirable. Ribs – Deep and well sprung, with good heart girth. Back – Strong, level, firm to handle, wide loin, with plenty of length from hip bone to tail. Hind Quarters – Wide and deep, well fleshed to the hocks. Tail – Hock length is the breed standard. Well set on, strong dock, free from dark or blue spots. Front Legs – well set, with strong bone, enough width but straight, clear of wool. Rear Legs – Plenty of width, clear of wool – Must not be Cow, Sickle or Turkey Hocked. Front and Rear Feet – Excessive length on joints is undesirable. Short strong joints can carry weight. Well-trimmed feet. Skin – Pink or red, free from black/blue spots or tint. Wool – A white dense quality fleece free from kemp. Should be clean, a small amount of black is acceptable but undesirable, if very black the sheep should be rejected. Bone Male – Enough bone for the scale of the sheep not fine and spindly. Bone Female – Not too fine but not too much bone. Bone – Neither should be weak behind the shoulder. Males Testicles – The same size and wool free. Must be sound underneath. Females Udder etc – Must be sound unless declared otherwise at shows or sales. Carriage – The sheep should meet one boldly, standing square, must walk freely not lame or stiff.

Definitions In this Schedule the words or expression: “In Lamb” or “Due to Lamb” means any female sheep carrying a lamb but shall not imply that any lamb due will be born alive and, where the female sheep is stated to be In Lamb or Due to Lamb to a named ram the Vendor shall provide the Auctioneer with details of the ram, his ear tag number and any breed society registration number together with such, if any, further information that may be required of him, such information to be included in any catalogue for the sale and announced at the sale. Female sheep Vendor’s warranty Each female sheep is warranted not to be In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 14 weeks and 5 Day Warranty. Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to 33.33 per cent of the purchase price. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate or a slaughter-house manager’s or other competent person’s certificate confirming the sheep to have been In Lamb for a period of at least 12 weeks on the day of sale. Female sheep not described as In Lamb Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that a female sheep not described in any catalogue for sale or at the time of sale as In Lamb is not In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 14 Week + 5 Day Warranty. Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either the Purchaser may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to the amount in paragraph (i) of the Appendix. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate or a slaughterhouse manager’s or other competent person’s certificate confirming that the sheep was In Lamb Female sheep described as correct Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that all female sheep described in the catalogue or at the time of sale as correct are sound in mouth and udder, that is they are not lacking any of the 8 broad teeth and do not have any damaged or worn teeth or a defective udder. This warranty is a 5 Day Warranty. Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either the Purchaser may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to the amount in paragraph (i) of the Appendix. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate. Female sheep proving barren Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that any female sheep sold as being In Lamb is In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 21 Day Warranty. Ewes with lambs at foot Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that, unless stated to the contrary in any catalogue for the sale or at the time of sale, in a Lot in which the ewes are described as with lamb or with lambs at foot every ewe is suckling one or more lambs, and every lamb has a mother in the Lot. This warranty is a 5 Day Warranty. Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty he may exercise his rights under Schedule 6 in respect of any ewe which does not have a lamb or any motherless lamb.
