From You r Boa r d Of Dir ec tor s BY ANNETTE DOERR Happy February! So far, we’ve officially made it through one month of 2021, and after surviving 2020, I see that as a good thing! February is an odd month, it’s the shortest month of the year but at the same time it’s still dark and damp with some wicked weather waiting to challenge us in ways only a Tobyhanna winter can. February is a great time of the year to think about how you’ll get more active within the Pocono Farms community this year! As a Board, February is the only month where we have a work session instead of a monthly public meeting. This is when we do most of the planning for the new year, including our Annual Meeting, held in July. As you all know because of the pandemic, we were unable to hold our annual meeting last July, here’s hoping we’re good to go once July 2021 comes around. The management team and staff did a terrific job keeping Pocono Farms up and running to the best the State of Pennsylvania and the CDC would allow throughout 2020, and it was a learning experience through it all. Amenities were as open as allowed and we’re still doing the same depending on current State and CDC protocols. Is this the year you’ll join our fitness center? Our fitness team, led by Krissie has done a phenomenal job following safety protocols and CDC guidelines while still offering classes and instruction to suit every goal. It’s clean, convenient, affordable and right around the corner! Our equipment is top notch and the classes (everything from yoga to Butts & Guts) are fun and give an amazing workout. New member rates are available, and we offer monthly payment plans to make it more affordable. Invest in yourself and see the difference you can make to a healthier you without ever leaving your neighborhood. You can find out more information by watching your emails, visiting the Fitness Center tab on our website (Resident section > Amenities > Fitness Center), or emailing Krissie at fitness@poconofarms.com. On a safety note, because it is mid-winter, if you live in the vicinity of a fire hydrant, please make sure that it’s dug out and accessible in case of emergency so that our firefighters can get straight to work if they have to roll up on a scene near you. As a rule of thumb, hydrants should be cleared of snow and debris 3-feet on each side, so that they can easily be accessed in every direction. Clearing snow around hydrants not only saves our volunteer firefighters time, it just might save a life. If you’re lucky enough to be one of our snowbirds, and you’re reading this on a warm sunny beach, we hope you’re enjoying your winter. We look forward to the warmer weather and having you back home soon! Stay safe everyone!

From T he Gener a l M a n ager
2021
BY DAVE TIMKO Now that the Holidays are behind us, we look ahead to 2021. Although we may be restricted in how we operate, there are things that we can still plan and implement throughout the year. As we enter each budget year, we plan some renovations and updates to our facilities. This year is no different. As part of the approved budget for 2021, there are 4 cul de sacs that will be paved along with the shoulders being backed up. We know that there are still more that we must get to, but our paving plan is almost complete on the association owned cul de sacs. With the completion of these 4, there will be less than 15 cul de sacs out of the 80+ that the Association owns that have been paved in the last 10 years. We have also placed some money into the budget that will allow us to look at some improvements at the beach area. Anticipating that there may still be some restrictions on indoor gatherings, we wanted to look at improving some of our outdoor space so that we may be able to provide some outdoor programming within the guidelines that we must follow.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS ALL MEETING TIMES ARE 7PM UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED
Friday, February 26th Work Session Friday, March 26th Friday, April 30th Friday, May 21st
Friday, June 18th Friday, July 16th
Saturday, July 17th Annual Meeting 10am
2020 was a good year operationally for our nonassessment revenue operations – food & beverage, golf, and short term rental registrations. We anticipate these three areas to continue to do well for Pocono Farms in 2021. With a little help from Mother Nature, it would be nice to open the golf course on schedule by April and continue on the successes we realized in 2020. Even with the restrictions that impacted our indoor dining, our food & beverage staff did a fantastic job in handling our outdoor seating throughout the warmer season. Plus the view of the lake is awesome from our deck areas!! We truly appreciate all of our members continued support, patience, and understanding. Let’s stay positive and optimistic!! Here is to a happy, healthy, and safe New Year for all of us at Pocono Farms!!

P u blic Sa fet y BY ARTIE FURMAN Hello everyone! February is here and all the uncertainty that comes with it. It seems so different day by day; will the skies be blue, or will they be gray? A winter jacket to ward off the chill or will jeans and a sweatshirt fit the bill? We never can tell which way it will go; will it be sunny or a foot of snow? In northeast PA it is either feast or famine. Why do we do it? We need our heads examined. I would like to know, why we put up with the wind, sleet, ice, and snow. Could it be we know Spring is not too far away and not long after comes those great summer days. The pool will be packed, and the beach will be too, on the golf course you will find me playing a round (or two). The restaurant may be full, but the wait is not long, you can hear Regina or Christian singing a song! The events you have all come to know and love, Memorial Day celebration and July 4th fireworks up above. Soon then the air will cool, the leaves will change, so much yet to happen, and so much to arrange. Trunk or Treat will happen and Turkey bash too, then Christmas and New Years - WOW! The year flew. Before you know it, I will be here again, another February article to write using paper and pen.

Alas this article was a little different, because 2020 and 2021 so far have been very different. As individuals, friends, families, communities even countries around the globe have had to change the way we do almost everything. But through it all some things remain the same. We at the Farms will be here for you when you need us. Please everyone stay safe and as always if you have questions or concerns, I am only a phone call away!

Neighbor hood Watch BY EDWARD KELLY It didn't take long for winter t show up after new years day. Plenty of snow for the ski buffs, too much for us of the snowblower set. Of course the big news was the arrival of the vaccine. It became obvious that it was going to take a while to get everyone vaccinated. However, most of us could breath a little easier knowing that help was close. Now if we can just stay safe until we get our shot. While we had some slippery days, most all of our drivers managed to get their two hours in. The snow covered most areas that often had things dumped at. But there is always something to be picked up or called in about. You may have noticed, a gate had been installed at the end of seneca. This was a favorite spot to pull in and dump,.I guess the large boulders that had been place there wasn't enough to keep people out. On hunter, near the power lines, boulders were placed also, but occasionally bags are still dropped off there.

course ready daily. Many times, as golfers left the course, there were lines of carts waiting to be cleaned and sanitized for the next day. One constant was our course was always in great condition and people felt safe being there. Everyone adjusted and the 2020 golf season will be one that no one will ever forget. Like many other golfers, I was able to golf more in 2020 than any year prior. Some golfers who had stopped playing were getting back into it. My daughter, after 3 years of losing interest in golf, started playing again and became a member. I was also able to golf in an event with my mother for the first time. Golf was not the same in 2020 but it was one of the things that got us back to some sense of normalcy.

F un w it h Fitness BY KRISSIE AYLWARD, PFCCA FITNESS DIRECTOR Love is in the air! How about loving yourself this month as well as spreading love to those around you? Spending time working out, eating healthy, and practicing mindfulness are great ways to love yourself this month and every month. We are only given one body so why not take care of and show it some love. Getting your body moving on the cardio machines or taking a cardio class helps build stamina, increases your blood flow, helps keep your heart healthy, and produces those feel-good hormones. Coming in and taking one of our chair yoga classes or sunrise yoga is a great way to practice mindfulness and tune into your body. Stretching is also vital to our body’s ability to function. Many of us do not spend enough time stretching simply because it is forgotten. However, stretching might be the key to building a lean, healthy body. Releasing tension in the muscles, creating balance and working on flexibility are some of the benefits of stretching and we have a fabulous stretch and tone class on Wednesday at 6 pm. Maybe you like to walk or ride your bike but right now the weather just is not cooperating. I encourage you to come in for just 20 minutes a day and get those legs moving. We are expecting two new ellipticals that are ideal for those who need to be easy on the joints but might not enjoy riding a bike. The new spin bike is fantastic, I must say, and you can set up your very own training course from an app on your phone! There are a few different options for memberships, and I encourage you to stop in and see me. We can figure just about anything out to fit your needs. Most importantly I encourage you to take care of your heart and your body. You are only given one. Have a heart healthy February and I look forward to seeing you!
