From You r Boa r d Of Dir ec tor s BY ANNETTE DOERR August is the month where we hope you’ll consider joining a committee. For the past several years we have been unable to have official committee meetings, due to lack of interest, for all committees except for our Golf Committee which remains very active. I cannot stress enough how important our committees are. It’s where the changes you want to see happen… but we can’t do it without YOU! Pocono Farms has 5 standing committees that run August thru July, although you can join anytime. They ideally meet once a month for about one hour. Our 5 standing committees are as follows: A&B / Environmental / Crime Watch: The Architectural & Building Committee’s purpose is to guide construction and land use in Pocono Farms to preserve the natural beauty of the area and to protect property values. To meet this objective the Committee performs the functions of review, approval, or disapproval of building plans. In cooperation with the General Manager, it oversees enforcement of Architectural & Building rules and regulations, and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning application and modification of those rules. Communications / LRP (Long Range Planning): The mission of the Official Publication Committee shall be to communicate to the membership, pertinent information, relative to Pocono Farms and Coolbaugh Township issues, in a responsible and timely manner, by paper, bulletin board, phone call, special meeting, or any other means. Finance: The mission of the Finance Committee is to advise the Board on matters related to the financial affairs of Pocono Farms, reviewing budgets and capital requirements as proposed by management. The Finance Committee may be asked to undertake a special project or assignment requested by the Board. Upon review the Finance Committee may recommend budget changes to the Board. Recreation / Tennis / Pool / Fitness: The Recreation Committee’s objective and purpose is to plan and coordinate the recreational activities at Pocono Farms. Golf: The mission/ purpose of the Golf Committee is to plan, develop, implement and monitor all activities, events, and programs associated with the Pocono Farms golf operations and represent, solicit and communicate to the membership of Pocono Farms all pertinent information relating to golf. Applications can be found at the Administration Office, or on our website, www.poconofarms.com under the Resources tab, then Documents in the Resident section of the site. COMMUNITY REMINDER HOUSEHOLD TRASH & RECYCLING
Household trash and recycling cans are picked up every Tuesday. Cans need to be out at the end of your driveway, 3 feet apart, with the handles facing your home by 6:00AM. Cans must be brought in by 6:00PM. At times due to weather and delays beyond County Waste’s control, the “normal” pick up time and route may vary. To avoid having your cans missed, please have them out by 6:00AM. If you cannot have your cans out by 6:00AM for pick up, our compactor, located at The Maintenance Yard off Kilmer Drive, is open Wednesday & Friday from 8:00AM – 12:00PM and Sunday from 10:00AM – 2:00PM where you can bring your household trash and recycling.
From T he Gener a l M a n ager BY DAVE TIMKO As I write this article, we have just finished wrapping up our 4th of July weekend. Although the weather on Saturday the 3rd did not cooperate, the skies cleared around 8pm and we were able to get our fireworks display up in the air with hundreds of members and their guests looking on. Regina Sayles did not disappoint on the night of the 4th!! She played and sang her music to a full crowd of members and their families who gathered on the beach and grass area. The tiki bar was open, and the grill was cooking plenty of hot dogs and burgers. Over the July 4th weekend, our Public Safety Department issued 21 fines for setting off fireworks within the community, which are prohibited. 17 of those fines were issued to members and the other 4 were issued to short term renters. We have emailed the fine structure often leading up to the Holiday weekend. We also include the flyer stating that fireworks are prohibited in each short-term rental packet. Some of the short term rental owner’s even place the flyer on their refrigerator within their homes.

Right after the Holiday weekend, we switch gears to preparing for the Annual Membership meeting. By the time you are reading this, the annual meeting will have happened, and three (3) Directors will have been voted in by the membership to serve their respective three-year terms. These three directors will join the remaining six board members, who volunteer their time in leading and guiding the direction of the Pocono Farms Community. Pocono Farms is always looking for members to join one of its five committees. These advisory committees provide valuable input and ideas to the Board. If you are interested in joining one of these committees, please stop by the Member Services office and complete an application for one or more of these committees. Typically, a committee meets once a month for about an hour. Enjoy the rest of your summer!!

BY ARTIE FURMAN It is hard to believe that August is here. The year is more than half over and so is summer. We have been busy, and I hope most of you have noticed some positive differences. It should be quieter. Our calls for loud music have gone down tremendously and I want to thank you all for that. It was hard at first for many to turn that volume down, but it is working. The same can be said for the high grass and the illegal dumping. We were able to catch all but one of those who dumped trash so let’s keep our fingers crossed that that number gets no higher. The homes with the 2-foot-high lawns have been mowed, well at least most of them have. We are still working on the rest!
When I was a young man, I used to dream of beautiful women, heroic deeds, the walk off homerun, the winning touchdown or knocking out the champ. The other night I dreamed about catching someone dumping a mattress in Pocono Farms, on one of our thinly populated streets. How far my heroic dreams have fallen… I probably should start going to those superhero movies the kids are seeing today. Unfortunately, that is the kind of news I get now from all the frequent calls. There must be a superhero somewhere that can find the answer to our problem! This past July seemed more like our usual expectation. People getting together again, fireworks, community meeting - a year like any other year. We all hope normal is back to stay. Though we are still cautiously optimistic. The drivers are looking forward to getting together again for our annual luncheon. This is one of the few times that the volunteers get to see each other. Many have not met new drivers and have not seen others. We are trying to schedule something in early October, so the snowbirds get a chance to say hello before they head south or west. This get together normally has a guest speaker from the Regional Police, or the Coolbaugh Code Department to bring us up to date on happenings in the area, or updated regulations that might concern our community. There is still plenty of summer left and that means there is still plenty to do. To those of you who are still affected, please to not hesitate to let me know. We are doing all we can to get everyone in compliance. Lastly, I want to touch upon fireworks. This year has been the best / quietest since I have been here. I hope to repeat that phrase next year and all the years that I am here. I know some of you will not agree Keithwith Torregrossa me. A Not e from t he A sst. Gener a l M a n ager BY KATRINA WEITHMAN Perhaps no group has pivoted more quickly and more visibly during the pandemic than the restaurant industry. We adapted to new concepts such as distanced tables, partitions, paper menus, plastic silverware and not being able to leave salt and pepper on the tables. We survived multiple state mandated occupancy restrictions as well as complete closures of indoor dining. In the face of all the adversity we survived, and we looked forward to welcoming our returning guests only to face our greatest challenge yet…no staff to serve our patrons. Nationally, chains and independent eateries alike have struggled to hire staff who are opting instead to stay on unemployment or work in other industries. Even before the pandemic, the restaurant and hospitality industries were experiencing labor shortages, and the pandemic likely contributed to workers leaving the industry for good. Workers in the restaurant and service industries expressed their struggles and the leading factors for labor shortages in the hospitality field are pointed to, low wages, lack of benefits, erratic scheduling on nights and holidays, physical demands, and lack of childcare availability.

The application for the golf committee shall be considered for approval by the Board of Directors at the August meeting Any committee member who is absent from either a total of four (4) regular meetings or three (3) regular meetings in succession of the committee in the course of a twelve (12) month period commencing with the 1st meeting of the committee after appointment , shall be deemed to have resigned. This provision is made to ensure efficiency within the committee and shall be applicable and mandatory even though the absences may be for health reasons or other justifiable cause(s). R ound by R ound - Bunk er Bliss BY RODGER SPEAR Now that all the Greenside Bunker work has been completed and we have been given the green light to play them, we can enjoy the entire golf course while marveling at the design and modifications to our sand traps. Most of us will have to relearn how to escape the bunkers as well as deal with the texture of the new sand and how it will affect our sand shots. With that being said, we need to be reminded of some of the rules about bunker play, should we find ourselves in a bunker (God Forbid). The following are some of the applicable rules regarding sand play. A ball is deemed to be in a bunker if it touches the sand within it. If a ball disappears in the sand, you are permitted to rake or probe the sand as well as using a club or your feet in order to locate the ball. If the ball moves as a result of the search put it back without penalty and recreate the lie. Maximum of three minutes to find the ball. If you cannot tell that the ball found is yours you are allowed to mark it, pick it up and identify it and, if yours, place it back while recreating the lie. If not marked, then a one stroke penalty is assessed. If two balls are close to one another so that they obstruct the play of each then one can be marked and picked up but not cleaned. Loose impediments can be removed such as stones, leaves and twigs and other natural objects. But if the ball moves as a result, then put it back with a penalty of one stroke. Movable obstructions can be removed such as a rake or other artificial objects without penalty. If the ball moves as a result put it back without penalty. If a ball in a bunker is declared unplayable, we have four options to drop a ball:
1. Take a drop in the bunker within two club lengths no closer to the hole One penalty stroke.
2. In the bunker go back on an extension of the line from the hole to the ball and take a drop within one club length no closer to the hole. One penalty stroke.
3. Return to the spot of your last stroke and take a drop within one club length no closer to the hole (if in teeing area you can tee it up). One penalty stroke.
4.
Go back on the extension of the line from the hole to the ball outside the bunker as far back as you like and take a drop within one club length no closer to the hole. Two stroke penalty. Abnormal course conditions in a sand bunker such as standing water, ground under repair or if it interferes with your stance, you can take relief no closer to the hole as follows:
1.
Without penalty take a drop in the bunker at the nearest point of relief within a club length.
2.
One stroke penalty go back on the extension of a line from the ball outside of the bunker as far back as you like and take a drop within one club length

What a summer season! We have hit record numbers for Water Aerobics, at an average of 25-30 members per class! I am so glad to see all the new faces and luckily I only had to cancel class a couple of times due to the weather! I am so happy that more people are coming out of their houses and participating in our group fitness classes inside as well. Chair yoga and TRX participants are filling the classroom again as our other classes begin to see more faces as well. The energy is intoxicating and the smiles, addicting. I had the opportunity to swim in the Laps for Cancer and what a humbling experience. Being a survivor myself, the personal gratitude for those that swam was overwhelming. Being able to swim for those who are fighting or have lost their battle was a great opportunity. A woman whom I love with all my heart and who has taught me so much about the fitness world, personal training, and took me under her wing, is fighting the battle. Being able to swim for her, knowing she would’ve been there to cheer me on if possible, was just a small token of my appreciation for her and a way to show my support, give strength and inspiration to those who need it. We never know when this dreaded disease may hit someone we love or even ourselves, so it is extremely important to take care of ourselves and stay fit. I encourage you to do self-check on your health and fitness. If you are getting out and doing your thing, making good nutrition choices and getting in some kind of exercise then you are on the right track. If not, then maybe it is time to make a change. I am always here to help just stop in or give me a call. I look forward to seeing more new faces as we grow our fitness center tribe. As always thank you for your continued support and kind words.
