FROM THE CEO’S DESK Sapna Moudgil Chief Executive Officer

Some lessons begin with an explanation. Others begin with a question, an unfamiliar situation or a conversation that changes how we see something. To me, learning beyond classrooms is about creating opportunities for young people to participate, explore and discover what they are capable of. Knowledge provides an important foundation. But are learners able to apply that knowledge, work with others and navigate unfamiliar situations? Do they have the confidence and judgement to do so? These questions led us to rethink the role of educators. Learning becomes more meaningful when young people feel comfortable asking questions, expressing their views and learning from one another. Rather than having every answer provided to them, they need the space to explore possibilities, make decisions and learn from their experiences. This shift in how we teach and learn did not happen overnight. It required us to invest in our educators, give them opportunities to experience new approaches themselves and support them in bringing these practices into their classrooms. At NIIT Foundation, we recognise that meaningful change begins with those who facilitate learning, and sustaining that change requires continued learning and support. Experience becomes learning when we reflect on it. What surprised us? What would we do differently? Where could we apply this understanding next? These questions encourage learners to recognise their own progress, identify areas for improvement and take greater responsibility for their development. They also help build the confidence to approach new challenges, whether in their communities, workplaces or personal lives. I believe this is an important part of preparing young people for the future. Employment and entrepreneurship are meaningful outcomes, but so are the abilities to think independently, collaborate, adapt and make informed decisions. Leadership can begin with something as simple as taking ownership of one's learning. And that responsibility does not end when formal education is complete. The same is true for us as adults. I see leadership as a willingness to remain a learner—to question our assumptions, seek feedback and take responsibility for what we do next.

COVER STORY “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” — Alvin Toffler Knowing a subject is only the start. What matters is what young people do with it: whether they can ask questions, make decisions and find their way when things get hard. We call this self-leadership. It grows where learners feel free to question, take part and try things out in real situations. It starts with our trainers. NIIT Foundation trains its trainers in the Genuine Contact (GC) approach, a methodology that belongs to Dalar International. GC helps everyone in the room connect with themselves and each other, so people can bring their whole selves to learning. Through Whole Person Process Facilitation, trainers experience this kind of learning first, reflect on how they teach, and take it back to their classrooms. The shift is from delivering lessons to creating chances for learners to think, take part and apply. Learning doesn’t stay inside the center. Learners put on nukkad nataks, present in groups, run health and hygiene awareness drives, lead cyber-safety and financial literacy activities, and join plantation drives. They move from understanding a topic to explaining it, working with others and acting on it.

Ready for life, not just a job. Our mandatory Life Skills Module builds communication, selfawareness, teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making. Self-defence and POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) sessions open up honest conversations about safety, dignity and respect.

3

Seeing the workplace up close. Learners visit automotive plants, retail stores, banks, customer service centers and BPOs. They watch how work happens, talk to professionals and learn what different roles expect. Some visits bring parents along, so families can see these career paths too.

Learning from people who’ve done it. Learners engage with industry through forums such as FICCI, CII and NASSCOM, and through hackathons and alumni meet-ups. Volunteers from colleges and industry add mentoring, expert sessions and real workplace insight. Grooming sessions, mock interviews, internships and on-the-job training help learners get ready for recruitment and the move into work. For future entrepreneurs, the ChangeMaker Academy offers practical projects, training and mentoring. Learners understand customer needs, test ideas and see what it takes to build something that lasts. Knowledge becomes real when it turns into action: solving a problem, making a good decision, contributing to a community, taking the first step in a career. That is what we want every learner to leave with.

EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE Voilà, ‘NF is giving the interns wings of experience to evoke a sense of growth, freedom, and the ability to navigate life's challenges.’

Neelam Shourie Manager,

NIIT Foundation

In 2026 most of our centers have been abuzz with activity. The word-of-mouth feedback of the 14 interns in 2025, brought over 60 interns in 2026. Students from the fields of education, psychology, management studies, humanities and science from prestigious institutions and Govt Colleges across India applied to Intern with NF.

During the interview call, their only goal was to complete the mandatory Community Service Activity of their college curriculum. Some, got in touch with me to request that they did not want to work at the centers regularly, while others said they could not work in the communities as their health did not permit them. Their inhibitions and vulnerability were understandable. Mentoring them with success stories and one-step-at-a-time worked wonders. The students responded just like small kids. They gained confidence in NF culture. The onboarding mail had clarity on all aspects- Center, Center head, internship period and timings, day’s schedule, and the documents required. They joined; they connected. Looking forward to the following day, joyfully participated in training sessions, community outreach programs, administrative tasks, organizing student engagement activities and facilitate learning. Some voluntarily took over the beautification of Centers and the outcome has been fantabulous! Internship at NF successfully blends education with application, proving to be an enriching experience.

VOICE FROM THE FIELD Ayushi Volunteer,

Fateh Nagar, Delhi

I am Ayushi, a second-year student in the BA program in Political Science and Economics at Motilal Nehru College, University of Delhi. I spent a month this summer volunteering at NIIT Foundation’s center in Fateh Nagar, and it turned out to be one of the most meaningful learning experiences I’ve had so far. The faculty members were warm, supportive, and always willing to guide me, which made it easy to settle in and contribute from day one. Working on groundlevel mobilisation pushed me to communicate more clearly and confidently with people from very different backgrounds, and my communication skills improved noticeably as a result. More importantly, the experience gave me a real understanding of what underprivileged communities actually need and which support can make a lasting difference in their lives, beyond short-term fixes. That perspective is something no classroom could have given me. I also strengthened my technical skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, through the documentation and administrative work I handled during my time there. I’m grateful to the entire team at NIIT Foundation for the opportunity, and I’d recommend volunteering here to anyone who wants to learn while making a genuine impact.

DID YOU KNOW?

The "2-Minute Rule" used by top productivity experts states that if a task takes less than two minutes to complete, you should do it immediately rather than adding it to your to-do list. Doing this prevents small tasks from building up and causing cognitive fatigue.

NIIT FOUNDATION STUDENT ALUMNI “The Basic IT Course changed my life. I’m now confident and excited for the future. This opportunity has helped me support my family and pursue my dreams.” - AARTII ID: RID0010891201, LOCATION - REWARI, HARYANA

Aarti, the eldest of five sisters, supports her family alongside her mother as her father is handicapped. Despite these challenges, she aspired to learn digital skills and enrolled in the Basic IT Course at the DTV-Rewari. Initially struggling with basic computer tasks, Aarti quickly improved through dedicated training and gained confidence in using MS Word, spreadsheets, emails, and online tools. After completing the course, she now helps her community with digital literacy and online transactions. With support from Motherson and NIIT Foundation, Aarti secured her first job as a Warehouse Associate at PG Electro Plast, Bhiwadi. Looking ahead, she dreams of becoming an IT Trainer to empower other women in her village.

"As a homemaker, I never imagined I could become an entrepreneur. ChangeMaker Academy gave me the confidence and practical skills to take that first step. Today, I proudly run my own store, creating a livelihood for my family and serving my community." - REBATI BAURI ID-: RID0011442611, LOCATION - JAMSHEDPUR, JHARKHAND

Rebati, a mother of 3 children, worked as a tuition teacher but always dreamed of starting her own general store. Limited funds, lack of business knowledge and guidance, however, made it difficult for her to take the first step. Through NIIT Foundation’s ChangeMaker Academy (CMA), Rebati gained practical skills in financial planning, inventory management, customer service and marketing. The program also helped strengthen her confidence and decision-making skills. Today, she runs Saurav & Shubho General Store, managing daily sales, stock and accounts herself, with support from her family. From a tuition teacher with limited income to a self-employed entrepreneur, Rebati is now contributing to her household income while building a sustainable livelihood for her family.
