MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP
WHY THIS WORK MATTERS At NIIT Foundation, we have always believed that skilling is about much more than just getting a job. It is about building confidence, creating a sense of dignity, and opening possibilities for the future. NIIT Foundation carries forward the rich legacy of NIIT, a leading skills and talent development corporation with over four decades of experience in shaping India’s talent ecosystem. Established by the promoters of NIIT, the NIIT Foundation extends this legacy by making quality education, community awareness, skills and livelihood opportunities, and pathways to employability accessible to underserved communities. In the communities we work with, what stands out is that the challenge is not only about jobs not being available, it is often about access. Access to the right skills, to digital tools, and to opportunities that can turn learning into a livelihood. In many of the conversations I have had, whether around the digital divide in rural India or the barriers women face in entering the workforce, this gap is evident. Addressing it requires consistent, long-term efforts that tackle multiple, interconnected challenges. What we have tried to do is keep our approach simple and practical. It is not just about running training programs, but supporting people through their entire journey from building skills and confidence to finding meaningful employment. As digital technologies and AI reshape the world of work, future-ready

technical skills, combined with life skills such as communication, adaptability, and resilience, are becoming essential for long-term career success. A lot of this work is only possible because of the partnerships we have built over time. Working closely with organisations, employers, and communities allows us to reach people who might otherwise be left out, and to design programs that are relevant to their needs. It also helps ensure that the outcomes are not short-term, but lasting. The stories in this book are really a reflection of that shared effort. They show what can happen when someone is given not just training, but a genuine opportunity to move forward.

THE NEED
WHY SKILLS MATTER TODAY India's workforce is at a pivotal moment. As the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 highlights, the challenge is no longer access to education alone, but ensuring learners develop the skills required for a rapidly evolving world of work. Technological advances, particularly in AI, big data and cybersecurity, are reshaping workforce demands, while employers identify skills gaps as the biggest barrier to business transformation, with 63% citing them as a key challenge. The report further estimates that 39% of workers' core skills will change by 2030, underscoring the urgent need for education systems and skilling initiatives to stay aligned with evolving industry requirements. These gaps are further widened by structural barriers. For many, the constraints are immediate and practical, ranging from affordability and limited awareness of skilling opportunities to uneven access to digital infrastructure. These challenges continue to disproportionately affect rural youth, women and first-generation learners. At the same time, the economy is becoming increasingly digital and skillsdriven, creating a paradox: opportunities are expanding, but access to those opportunities remains uneven.
05
It is within this context that NIIT Foundation’s work becomes critical. By delivering industry-aligned programs, we address the capability gap directly, combining technical training in areas such as IT, digital literacy, and cybersecurity with life skills that build confidence, communication, and adaptability. Through training centers, community-based models, and digital bus initiative, we work to reduce barriers of access and ensure that opportunity is not limited by geography or background. Our focus on placement support and employer engagement further bridges the gap between training and employment, enabling more meaningful and sustained livelihoods.
AS INDIA’S SKILL REQUIREMENTS CONTINUE TO EVOLVE, THE NEED IS CLEAR: NOT JUST TO TRAIN MORE PEOPLE, BUT TO BUILD SYSTEMS THAT MAKE SKILLS RELEVANT, ACCESSIBLE, AND TRULY TRANSFORMATIVE.
06
THE NIIT FOUNDATION APPROACH
WHAT WE DO NIIT Foundation works at the intersection of education, skills, and employability, with a clear focus on enabling underserved communities to access meaningful livelihood opportunities. At its core, we design and deliver structured skill development programs that take individuals from limited access to learning to active participation in the workforce. This includes outreach into underserved communities, delivery of industry-relevant training, and sustained support that helps learners transition into jobs. Our focus is not only on training individuals, but on creating pathways that are practical, accessible, and aligned with real market demand.

Training combines technical capabilities with essential life skills like communication, confidence, and adaptability, equipping learners not just to secure employment, but to sustain and grow within it. MAMINA MOHANTA
GUDULI NAIK
LOCATION: DUBRI, ODISHA
LOCATION: SUKINDA, ODISHA
Invested in her own food stall and emerged as a role model for women in her community.
Through the program, she gained the entrepreneurial skills to launch AG Tailors: Dil Se Dil Tak.
Mamina’s journey is rooted in quiet determination. As the eldest daughter in a family of four girls, she grew up with responsibility early in life, walked long distances to school, and later carried the demands of marriage and motherhood without losing sight of her own ambitions. Through ChangeMaker Academy, she found the structure and confidence to turn a food-stall idea into a real livelihood pathway. With guidance on planning, decision-making, and business ownership, she chose to invest in her own stall space rather than renting one. Today, Mamina is building something of her own and, in the process, becoming a source of inspiration for other women in her village.
Guduli’s story begins with service, care, and a deep desire to give back to her community. Even while completing her B.Com and a data-entry course, she felt drawn toward a more independent future, one where her work could also benefit the girls around her. ChangeMaker Academy helped her shape that vision. She refined the basics of planning, pricing, and promotion, and then used those learnings to launch her tailoring venture, AG Tailors: Dil Se Dil Tak. In just a short period, she has begun building a loyal customer base with affordable, quality stitching, while also hoping to train other girls from her village.

Co-founded Swad Niwaas, transforming a food business idea into a functioning enterprise.
The program strengthened his entrepreneurial mindset, enabling him to turn his vision for Bloom Academy into an actionable roadmap.
Dimple’s journey shows how a first job can become a stepping stone rather than a final destination. After completing a dataentry course, she secured work in a call center, but her longerterm aspiration was always to start something of her own in food. ChangeMaker Academy helped her move from a vague idea to a practical business model, especially after community learning on plastic-free packaging and location scouting made her rethink the realities of running a restaurant. With that clarity, she co-built Swad Niwaas as a cloud kitchen with her team, balancing operations, sourcing, pricing, and customer engagement. Her story reflects the discipline needed to convert ambition into a viable enterprise.
Saurabh’s path is shaped by hardship, responsibility, and a strong instinct to give back. Growing up in a family that struggled financially, he spent years balancing work, tuition, and learning, while also trying to support others through teaching. When he joined NIIT Foundation’s data-entry course and later ChangeMaker Academy, he found not just training, but a roadmap for the future. The program helped him sharpen his business thinking, define his vision for Bloom Academy, and think through the practical steps needed to launch a values-based tuition center. Today, he is working steadily toward that goal, with a clear plan to create a space that teaches not only academics, but discipline, confidence, and care.

PARTNERS IN CHANGE
WORKING TOGETHER The scale and depth of NIIT Foundation’s work are shaped by collaboration. The result reflected in these pages is not created by one institution alone, but through an ecosystem of stakeholders who bring together resources, expertise, access, and trust. Each initiative grows stronger when support is aligned across funding, implementation, outreach, and employment. These outcomes are not simply delivered; they are co-created. Across urban center, rural communities, and aspirational geographies, partnerships help translate intent into measurable change. At the heart of this ecosystem are collaborators who enable programs to reach communities that are often the hardest to serve. Some partnerships expand digital access and last-mile outreach, ensuring learning extends beyond traditional classrooms. Others support structured skilling interventions that prepare youth for today’s employment landscape, including employability training, digital literacy, financial literacy, and emerging areas such as cybersecurity.
THESE PROGRAMS ADAPT TO LOCAL CONTEXTS WHILE MAINTAINING A COMMON OBJECTIVE: EQUIPPING YOUNG PEOPLE WITH THE SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ECONOMY.
65
Equally important are partners who help convert training into opportunity. Employment-linked initiatives, job fairs, and recruitment pathways are central to this model. The transition from classroom to livelihood requires employers willing to engage with trained talent and create real entry points into work. This expands the ecosystem beyond training to include those who enable access to jobs and career growth. Meaningful change is rarely linear and never solitary. It is built through collaboration among those who support, design, deliver, and enable programs.
TOGETHER, THESE PARTNERSHIPS MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO REACH DIVERSE COMMUNITIES, RESPOND TO EVOLVING SKILL NEEDS, AND SCALE IMPACT OVER TIME, ENSURING THAT OPPORTUNITY IS NOT ONLY CREATED, BUT SUSTAINED.
66
BUILDING THE NEXT STORY TOGETHER Every success story in these pages begins with someone believing that a different future is possible. A learner takes the first step, a trainer offers guidance, a partner opens a door, and a community stands behind that effort. Together, these acts of support create change that goes far beyond a single job or a single moment of progress. They shape confidence, strengthen families, and open possibilities for the next generation. As we look ahead, we recognise that the stories captured in this book are not endings, but beginnings, the proof that when opportunity is made accessible, it can alter the course of a life, and sometimes, of many lives that follow.
