“Fitness for You” June 2022 Virtual Fitness Descriptions: All levels are welcome! Compound Strength with Ashley: In intervals of 45 seconds of work followed by 15-second intervals of recovery, participants of this class can expect to challenge more than one muscle group simultaneously! Using medium to heavy weights and a mat to engage in various strengthening exercises, the intensity will be high but the impact (to the joints) low! Start the month of June out strong with strength training! Tabata Strong with Charissa: Ready to smash those fat burning goals?! This high-intensity class is designed to do just that! In intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by 10-second recovery intervals, participants will execute strength exercises with a focus on one major muscle group at a time. Two rounds of strength exercises for each muscle group will be performed. Medium to heavy weights and a mat are needed.
Bodyweight Only with Charissa: Using one’s bodyweight, this class engages the major and minor muscle groups for total body strength! Intervals of 60 seconds for each muscle group can be expected. Whether at home or on travel, this is a workout that can be done anywhere! Strengthen and maintain the muscles and bones for overall health! Mat suggested. Strength & Stability with Shannon: Using light to heavy weights and a mat, participants will engage in strength training with a focus on postural alignment and execution of proper form. This low-impact workout is also beneficial in increasing, maintaining and/or preventing bone loss! Start the day with energy...and go into the weekend ready to recover! HIIT + Gliding Discs with Ashley: Grab a set of paper plates or gliding discs to participate in this high intensity interval class! In bouts of 30 seconds of hard work followed by 10second recovery intervals, attendees will execute exercises like mount climbers and reverse lunges! Don’t miss this engaging workout! A mat will also be utilized.
Functional Fitness: Spinal Stability with Shannon: Gain a new skill! Learn how to safely activate the core for spinal stability in daily activity. The spine is integral to movement and posture. By focusing on alignment and correct positioning in space for the spine in functionality, attendees will train the brain to correctly move through common physical demands like squatting. Light to heavy weights will be used.
Tabata with Shannon: Take stale fitness routines to new heights with Tabata training! A high-intensity interval-based class, Tabata involves 20-second bursts of hard work followed by 10-second intervals of recovery. Exercises are performed repeatedly for up to 8 cycles or 4 rounds, which are abridged for this express experience! Exercises using medium to heavy weights will be explored.
Tabata Cardio with Ashley: It’s time to challenge cardiovascular endurance! In bouts of 20 seconds of hard work followed by 10-second intervals of recovery, attendees will engage in exercises designed to maximally increase the heart rate to achieve anaerobic capacity. Participants will utilize bodyweight and a mat.
Pilates Mat with Charissa: Mind-body connection and breathing make Pilates a rewarding and powerful practice! Using light weights and a mat, participants will move through various Pilates exercises that are designed to strengthen and lengthen the body simultaneously.
Yoga Strong with Shannon: This is not your traditional Yoga class! Participants should be prepared to utilize light to heavy weights and a mat for this Yoga experience! Build strength, flexibility and increase balance by practicing various asanas (poses) with dumbbells. Alignment and breath will guide this Yoga practice. No Yoga experience is needed. Power HIIT with Shannon: It’s a strength-based highintensity interval class! Involving medium to heavy dumbbells to perform exercises in sets of 10 - 12 will challenge the muscles and cardiovascular endurance! Participants can expect to engage the major muscle groups. Medium weights are used for the warm-up and/or as a backup for sets too difficult to complete using heavy weights. A mat is suggested. Chair Strength & Stretch with Charissa: At the office and need a pick-me-up? This chair class is designed just for you! The body is made to move. By sitting in a chair for hours on end, a sedentary lifestyle can be formed. One way to maintain fitness for the office professional is in performing chair exercises and stretches! Using a stationary chair and one’s own bodyweight, participants can expect to move through various movements that will increase the heart rate as well as cardiovascular and bone health! Invite a co-worker! Mobility Core with Ashley: The core is integral to stabilizing the body for mobility! Using one heavy weight, attendees will engage in low-impact exercises for trunk strengthening and increased functionality in overall health! A mat is suggested.
Abs & Glutes + Bands with Ashley: In intervals of 45 seconds of work followed by 15-second intervals of recovery, participants will engage in exercises like abduction and planks with the added intensity of loop bands. The abdominal muscles and the gluteal muscles are integral to movement and are important to posture. Don’t miss this opportunity to get centrally stronger! A mat is suggested. Tabata Boxing with Charissa: Duck and move. Get in the groove with boxing fundamentals! In bouts of 20 seconds of hard work followed by 10-second cycles of recovery, authentic boxing techniques will be executed. Grab some gloves and prepare to fight! No boxing experience needed. Yoga for Athletes with Shannon: Yoga for Athletes is a nontraditional Yoga class inspired by the muscular stress and tightness that athletes experience as a result of high physical fitness demands that competitive sports put on the body. With a focus on increasing flexibility and improving joint and muscle range of motion, Yoga for Athletes is also beneficial to the general population. A mat and Yoga blocks will be utilized. Tabata Bootcamp with Ashley: 20-second intervals of hard work followed by 10-second intervals of recovery will guide this class. Using one’s own body weight, various exercises designed to increase the heart rate and the heart’s oxygen capacity will be explored. Take mundane fitness routines higher with Tabata. A mat is suggested.
Visit our website at www.govemployee.com Group Fitness Descriptions Continued: Ab-It Again! with Charissa: Consistent action creates consistent results! This class is all about the abdominals! Using light to medium weights, attendees will move through exercises that increase abdominal strength as well as the proximal muscles. So let’s get ab it! A mat is needed. Mobility Sculpt with Ashley: Mobility is defined as the ability or capacity to move. Remaining upright for the duration of the class, participants can expect to engage in low-impact exercises using medium to heavy weights. This total body workout will be guided by intervals of 45 seconds of work followed by 15second intervals of recovery. Abs & Back with Charissa: Using one’s own bodyweight, participants will move through various abdominal and back exercises designed to increase core strength and stability. 60second intervals will be explored. Be core-ageous! Age gracefully with core strength! A mat is suggested. Cardio + Abs with Ashley: Boost the day with this high energy cardiovascular workout! Intervals of 30 seconds of work followed by 10-second recovery intervals will guide this class. Using one’s own bodyweight, attendees can expect low-impact, high-intensity exercises that increase the heart rate quickly to achieve maximal effort/exhaustion. Stretch + Foam Roll with Shannon: Using a mat and foam roller, participants will learn how to achieve myofascial release! Myofascial tissues surround and support the muscles of the body. Sitting at a desk or working out can create muscle soreness, shortness and tightness. By engaging in myofascial release, participants can restore and rejuvenate muscles, tissues and joints, just in time for the weekend! Chair Tabata with Ashley: Get chair fit! Just light weights and a stationary chair are needed for this Tabata workout! Intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by 10-second intervals of recovery will guide this chair experience! Ask a co-worker or friend to join you for this class! Tabata Abs on the Floor with Charissa: It’s time to turn it up…with Tabata Abs! 20 second intervals of hard work will be followed by 10-second recovery intervals. Every “fiber” of your abdominals will be challenged during this workout experience. 1 medium weight will be utilized and a mat.
