The TV and s ound s ys tem have th eir o w n n ic h e built into the wall and ar e located off c en t er in t h e room to minimize their impor tance in the sp a c e.

LOUNGE

With imp ressive double height ceilings, this lounge has immed ia t e p resence. Comfor table s eating allows for c a su a l d in in g and the centr al bar is efficient for s taff, w h ile a lso w o rking as a centr al focal point.

DES IG N INT E NT Gleneagles Ch’axáý Elementar y school was looking to update their schools design to coincide with current principles of the 21st Learning Curriculum. The design needed to be both a ge a p p ro p ri a te a nd fl exi b l e , to accommodate the varied teaching and learning styles of todays educational system. Being that the school is located on the land of the Squamish Nation, it was also important to the schools community that they r esp e ct and honour t he heri ta ge a nd h i sto r y of the people who originally inhabited the land.

C ON C E PT One of the First Peoples’ principles of learning is: “ Lea rni ng i nv o l v es p a t ie nce and t im e ” . Learning is an individualistic process that cannot be rushed. Patience in this sense is calm. It means purposefully taking your time to get to your destination, so that nothing is missed. The inspiration for this design comes from t he He ro n ; an animal that rep resents p a ti ence to the people of the Squamish Nation. The Heron embodies the concept of slowing down and taking your time, to reach a greater long term goal.
