SAGA... SAGA... SAGA...

Phenomenology, memory, and place are key contributors to the direction of the projects. The collage is a documentation of those processes through lived experience.

The collage represents the experience of traveling to Chile. Before arriving, I had my own perspective on how Chile is through research, stories, and fragmented memories I had from when I was younger. As I journeyed through the land, my experiences began to interweave with those I came with. Our perception of the place began to come together as one similar feeling of the place. We all had different experiences in Chile, but the memory of that place became a collective memory. We felt so much love from the people there and a strong sense of community.

My projects use the interconnection between an environment and our experiences we may have within that place to create a feeling of that environment.

LIBRARY OF PROGRESS LIBRARY OF PROGRESS LIBRARY OF PROGRESS

Washington, DC

The Library of Progress is a children’s library. I selected pieces of literature that correspond to the main idea of progress in the African American communities. This includes a rap song, a poem, and a book that highlight African American struggle and our strive to overcome disparities. Listed are key terms derived from each piece and quotes that highlight the essence of that piece. The main theme is that we have to work together towards a better society. I created art pieces that were used to help drive the direction of the project

The basement is the hub space. “Underground schools” where hidden learning spaces for slaves since they were not allowed to go to school. In reflection of those times, I wanted to implement the basement as a collaborative learning space that includes computers, study rooms, and group seating options.

The left side of the first floor includes a cafeteria, The right side has the reception, library books, storage, study rooms, and utilities. When you look at the anchors on both sides of the elevators, it represents our ancestors guiding us on our journey

The left side of the building has elevated reading spaces, also including wheelchair accessible reading spaces near the windows. The right side of the building has a multipurpose room great for hosting small events and leaning activities.

This is the top floor where the anchors on the elevators represent release. This is where our ancestor’s release us on our journey to find our own path in life. This floor includes education stations, where kids can learn about important people in our history through videos, artworks, and selected books. There are different seating options and some more storage space on this floor

CAFETERIA

Library of Progress is a four-story interactive children’s library promoting education on African American history and literature. The building is influenced by hip hop, poetry, books, and original art within the architecture and function of the spaces inside. The pink section of the building relies on the green portion representing how our ancestors are our foundation on who we are today. There is use of shapes, color, and interactive elements to help engage children in their learning.

DISNEY IMAGINEERS

Kathmandu, Nepal

2024 Disney Imagineers project competition aims to improve or create a transportation system in a city. There was a collaboration with other students and a selection of the city of Kathmandu, Nepal. An expansion on the current infrastructure involved the design of a train station, bus stops, and buses. Nepal was chosen due to it’s poor transportation options and rich history.

*The project was conceived by the Howard University Team and created for the 2024 Walt Disney Imagineering’s Imaginations Design Competition. This project is the sole property of Walt Disney Imagineering and all rights to use these ideas are exclusive to Walt Disney Imagineering. The competition is a way for students and recent graduates to showcase their talents and for Walt Disney Imagineering to identify new talent

ROUTE MAP

The designs were based on the story of the three kings of mala. During the Mala Dynasty in between the 13 and 18 Century, there was a king who ruled over the Mala kingdom. When he passed away the kingdom was divided in into three smaller kingdoms, one given to each of his sons. The Kingdoms are now the cities we know today as Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu. The kingdoms had some rivalry between them and settled disputes through art competitions.

Washington, DC

A project focused on the design of a fire station building. Includes spaces such as offices, bedrooms, and an apparatus bay

The layout and design of the building accommodate the necessities and functionality of the space. Buildings can help save lives, and this represents how buildings can represent something greater than just a structure

Galaxy World is a theme park built in Theme Park Tycoon 2 located on the online multiplayer game Roblox. The theme park immerses you into outer space reimagined as a vibrant colorful futuristic city. Contains rollercoasters, water rides, children’s rides, and more. Also includes multiple themed restaurants to cater to diverse communities, and Moonlight railway to help you quickly move around the park.

Roblox

Saturn Hub is located near the center of Galaxy World. As the hub, it features many activities such as Saturn Cafe, Skyview tower for sightseeing, The Milky Way (Water ride) entrance, and Space Station 19 (rollercoaster) entrance.

Saturn Cafe, located on the second floor inside Saturn Hub, is one of the main places that serves American food and pastries. It is a great spot to wind down and take in the views of the park and the skyview that rises in the center of the restaurant.

Space Station 19 roller coaster is a high-speed roller coaster that guides you through the galaxy, meteorite railway, and takes you to the sky. At the top, you can see fireworks on display. You then go upside down, dropping down below Saturn. The entrance is in Saturn Hub.

BUTTERFLY HILL BUTTERFLY HILL BUTTERFLY HILL

Treasure Beach, Jamaica

FAREWELL, SEE YOU SOON, FAREWELL

The breeze flows, over overflowing

Dirt smothered on clothes, back ache

Sweet aroma, nostrils flair

Thach leaves intertwining, communities

Colorful painted building facades, culture

red, green, yellow, black, pride

Sun seeped thick watery air

Sweat trickles down back, labor

Water splashed, cooled down

People happy, people struggling, people smiling

Murals encase walls, beauty, story, love.

Bob Marley's tune echo's, bouncing off pavements and walls, peace.

Waves carry memories, the blood of ancestors shed far away, home

Sea shells eroded down to skeletons, displaying the sorrows of yesterday and hope, tomorrow

A land not our own, welcomes me, enlightens me, and guides me strive for love slathered on green canvases like a marriage, but only it's reality

Waves chase me on shore

As the earth sings, farewell under the moonlight sky, Farewell safe journeys, see you soon, farewell

Color and art are two major elements in Jamaica. It’s a way to express their culture and emotions. The project incorporated colors commonly used in Jamaica, highlighting their rich culture,

Each cluster of homes is placed to create smaller spaces that cultivate a tight sense of community. The Community spaces offer a place to participate in activities with residents, families, and neighbors. There are two housing units on each elevated platform, accommodating up to 6 people each. This is for women and their families. Additionally, each unit contains a kitchen, a living room, two bathrooms, and a laundry room. The units have their own deck space, which creates more living space for larger families.

Butterfly Hill is permanent housing located on Treasure Beach, Jamaica. It is a modular design project focused on cultural regeneration, neolithic forms, and fractal design to create a place of healing for those seeking humanitarian aid and a domestic abuse shelter. The building also helps support tenants’ businesses by allocating stalls for their use
