November 2015 New In November

Colebrook John Harrigan pauses. The buzz from the lights and cameras, the hard creaking wood floors of the Tillotson Center, Harrigan’s breathing: those are the only sounds. When he continues, his voice conveys a tangle of emotions as he describes a tragedy that befell Colebrook in August 1997. On that horrible day, a newspaper editor, a judge, and two state troopers were gunned down. Harrigan’s story is one of many told to and recorded by NHPTV as part of the Our Hometown: Colebrook program, hosted by Rebecca Rule. The series encourages people to tell the stories of their hometown and what makes it unique. The stories are, by turn, humorous, sad, telling, surprising and universal. Our Hometown: Colebrook presents an in-depth and personal look at the residents of Colebrook, NH and what it’s like to live north of the Notches. Meet town historian Arnold Goodrum, find out how Québécois transplant Benoit Lamontagne brought business to town, discover why Jonathon Dodge opened his business in Colebrook, and learn how food coop organizer Julie Moran made a difference. There are 33 stories in total.

This time of year gets many of us thinking about warm weather retreats from the frostiness of winter. If you’re looking for a unique tropical tour, consider our “Discover Ecuador” trip. This seven-day tour features unforgettable sights and natural wonders, and the company of Windows to the Wild host Will Lange. Visit nhptv.org/travel for trip details. Several new local programs debut this month. For starters, we’re going to Colebrook on Our Hometown to hear about life north of the Notches. Then, we focus on the importance of early childhood care and education in Raising New Hampshire. It looks at various educational and social service programs helping young children in the Granite State, and underlines the importance of these as children develop. And, Will embarks on two new adventures on Windows to the Wild this month. What’s not new this month: our appreciation of your support of New Hampshire Public Television. Thank you.
