CHARITIES & VOLUNTEERING JULY 2025 • ISSUE 18•
AMNESTY WEEK Amnesty week occurred from the 16th-20th of June and aimed to spread awareness and contribute to the women's rights movement. During Amnesty week we organised a PSHCEE task of completing a "Write for Rights". Our case study was Manahel Al-Otaibi, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison due to 'violating' the Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Cyber Crime Law by not wearing an abaya online and tweeting about women's rights. The writing of letters of solidarity was enriching and helped everyone gain wider knowledge on global affairs. During both Monday’s assembly and the Tuesday lecture slot we invited a speaker from Amnesty International, She covered content from current movements around the world to exploring the legal side of women's rights. It was an insightful talk that exposed the entire school to the variety of problems faced by women globally and what we can do to help. Towards the end of the week, members of NHEHS Amnesty Youth Group completed a sponsored walk to Richmond to raise money for the charity. The group walked with placards showing support for women’s rights. And our final event of the week was a decades dress up day, with staff and students dressing up in various outfits representing different era’s, representing the perseverance of Amnesty throughout the decades. We raised a total of £1156.94 during Amnesty Week - what an achievement! Carolina Year 12
