Communities in Bloom comes to North Grenville on August 13 and 14 this year, as the contest’s judges arrive to review our neighbourhood for the 2025 competition. Although there is a common misconception that CiB is all about gardens and flowers, it is, in fact a much broader concept than that. A team of trained judges will visit the community to evaluate it based on a set of criteria once the season is in full bloom (this includes environmen-

tal action, floral designs, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape, and floral displays). Part of that review this year will be a tour of the cemetery at St. James’ Anglican Church in Kemptville to see how it reflects our history and heritage. There are many “residents” of the graveyard who were prominent in the history of North Grenville, and judges will be given a tour and a briefing on some of those individuals and see

how this community continues to honour those who built the foundation on which our community stands. The cemetery tour will be followed by a walk around Kemptville to the History Hub on Prescott Street, as well as visits to the Ferguson Forest Centre and the Kemptville Campus. The judges will see how the community works together to make it a great place to live, aware of its history and heritage, as well as environmental

health, preservation of green spaces, and integration of all the elements that make up North Grenville, from service clubs to churches to municipal planning. The cemetery tour is hosted by the Municipality, the North Grenville Historical Society, the Cemetery Committee of the St. James’, and is supported by research by Doug MacDonald and Dr. David Shanahan.
