Other potential finalist, Vic Wunderle of the USA(39th) and 2000 Olympic champion Simon Fairweather (70th) had disappointing placings.
15 year old Koran debutante, Tuk YoungLee,ledcountrywomenMiJinYun, and favorite Sung Hyun Parkafter70and 60 meters, intheladiesclass,withNatalia Yaleeva in close attendance. The USA's Jennifer Nichols, withthe topscoreat 60 Metres, was also well positioned in 6th place.
In the CompoundDivision, the USA made a very impressive start with teammates Dave Cousins and Braden Gellenthien leading, from in-form Canadian, Kevin Tataryn, and defending World Champion, Clint Freeman of Australia. Other high profile contenders MortenBo(6th) PeterElzinga(7th)Dejan Sitar (12th) and Chris White (18th) were also in good form. Day 2 - Qualification
With the completion ofthe qualifying FITA round, thecream of world archery certainlyrose to the top, with significant scoring inallcategoriesfromthemajority offavored archers.
The men's recurve saw the Korean's Park and Chung on top with 1365 and 1352, with Tryrempilov at 1350, and India's Tarundeep Rai just one point behind. Frangilli moved up to I0th, Yan Allento 11th and Galiazzo andYamamoto to 17th and 18th, respectively. Americans Butch Johnson and Vic Wunderle had contrasting days Johnson dropping from 6th to 28th but Vic moving up from 39 to 29. Highlight for the men's recurve was a 359 at 30 metres by Korean Seung Hoon Han.
In the ladies' division, favorite, and world champion Sung Hyun Park's 1364 took her to the lead over teammates Lee and Yun with the USA's Jennifer Nichols well incontentionin4thplacewithastrong 1346.
Dave Cousins' ordinary 30 metersdid not prevent him from being the leading men's compound qualifier with 1379. Gellenthien retained 2nd with 1373. B movedupto 3rd, Elzingato4thandWh to 5th, but defending champion Freem fell back to 15th. Fellow Aussie Patri Coghlan wasthe star performer, 2nda� 1 metres and Ist at 30 with 358.
