Colorado Springs, CO - The World Archer}' Indoor Championships Organizing Committee is seeking an aspiring young reporter/joumalist to become one of two W&W Archery Fan Reporters for the World Archery Indoor Championships and Indoor Archery World Cup in Las Vegas, Nevada February 5-12. One lucky person will join Alexia Martinez, who was one of last year's winning reporters from the World Cup series. The Organizing Commiteee seeks a journalist who will be comfortable working in front of the camera. This opportunity, initiated by World Archery and the Organizing
OFFICIAL TARGETS
Committee, gives young journalists and filmmakers the opportunity of a lifetime - to gain real-world work experience in media and sports journalism, and have their work showcased on the international stage. Additionally, World Archery will select the winning reporters at the end of this season to win a trip to report from the World Cup Final in Tokyo, Japan. The Archery Fan Reporters will create short (three to five minute) daily interviews regarding all aspects of this premier competition, both on and off the field. The stories will showcase some of the star archers during serious or fun interviews as well as back of the scene footage of the event. Reporters will videotape, edit, embed music, write scripts and arrange interviews. Stories will broadcast internationally on World Archery’s WebTV platform. Those interested may submit a

three to five minute video and 300 to 500 word description communicating why they should become the next Archery Fan Reporter. Deadline submission is December 23, 2011 at midnight EST. Submissions may be emailed to tiaconi@usarchery.org; please email for details if submission needs to be mailed. The position is open to one individual, preferably a student, between the ages of 16 to 30. They must be comfortable operating HD video cameras, computer technology and willing to develop a daily story. The Fan Reporter is a volunteer position. Reporters must be available February 5 through 12. The Organizing Committee will provide room and board, but reporters must provide their own transportation to and from Las Vegas. Russell Wolfe (PA) took the sole placement in the men’s W2 category, while Joe Bailey (MI) finished the season atop the rankings for the open men’s group. Natalie Wells (CA) was the first-ranked Para USAT archer in the standing women’s category, and Eric Bennett (AZ) took top honors in the standing men’s group, as well as qualifying in the men’s open compound category. For Junior USAT, Kailey Johnson (GA), Shannon Ostling (WA), Garrett Abernathy (SC) and Daniel McLaughlin (OH) finished first in the compound girls’, recurve girls’, compound boys’ and recurve boys’ categories, respectively. Colorado Springs, CO - USAArchery has announced the names of the members of the 2012 United States Archery' Team (USAT), following a season in which team berths were closely contested. Topping the rankings for the Senior USAT recurve men was Brady Ellison (AZ), who also was the winner of the U.S. National Indoor Championships, the U.S. National Field Championships, and the U.S. National Outdoor Championships - titles which would also earn the winner an automatic USAT placement. For the recurve women, four-time Olympian Khatuna Lorig (CA) took the first spot: Lorig also currently holds the third position in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for archery, following the First Nomination Shoot. Jamie Van Natta (OH) took first in the compound women’s USAT rankings, after a season in which she also won the U.S. National Field Championship and U.S. National Outdoor Championship. Reo Wilde (ID) is atop the compound men’s standings after a record setting season of his own. For the Para USAT, Jeff Fabry (CA), who was part of the silver medal winning team at the World Archery Para Championships earlier this year, took the

World Cup Season Preview Japan hosts first World Archery event in modern history- experienced hosts stage new venues By George Tekmitchov Editor's note: George is the Senior Recurve Engineer for Hoyt, Inc. and International Technical Advisor for Easton Technical Products. where he developed the XIO arrow shaft. A four-time member of the US Archcry' team, George has also represented the United States in the FITA World Field Championships and the World Games. George is also known as the "Voice of Archery" having been the official FITA announcer at World and Olympic events since 1992.
Change is in the air for the 2012 World Cup season, with some familiar host sites trying out new competition venues and a major adjustment to the schedule for 2012 going forward. "With the number of major events in any given year, we felt that the schedule was getting to be a little relentless for both competitors and World Cup staff’. This is one explanation from World Archery' Secretary' General Tom Dielen for the decision to reduce the number of World Cup stages from four to three, followed, as usual, by a Grand Final in a spectacular setting. Of course there will be a great deal of effort expended on the London Olympic Games and Paralympics, and this major event combined with an already-tight schedule is another major motivator for the schedule adjustment. Out of the picture is Porec, Croatia. The popular, but difficult to reach destination was the opening World Cup event for several seasons running. However, key staff changes in the local organization, combined with the need to reduce the schedule, led to Porec being dropped for 2012.

Best of the best Japan has a chance to enter as many as two shooters in each category, since the host country is automatically allocated one slot in each category. The remaining positions may be filled through the performance of Japan’s teams in the 2012 World Cup events leading up to London and the Tokyo Grand Final. In addition, there will be a Mixed Team round, in which the host country can, if it chooses, enter another male and female shooter in each category, potentially giving up to twelve shooters the overall chance to represent Japan in the event- two in each recurve category, two in compound (male and female, eight total) and, if Japan chooses, two additional men and women in each of the mixed recurve and compound competitions. Yokoso Nihon (Welcome to Japan!) The World Archery Federation (WA) is excited to bring the prestigious finals to Japan in 2012. WA Secretary General Mr. Tom DIELEN notes that Tokyo beat Paris for the right to hold the 2012 event. “The competition came down to Paris, Lausanne (Switzerland. home town of the IOC) and Tokyo. We chose Tokyo because of the unique opportunity to put on a major event here for the first time, and while the world’s attention was piqued by the Olympic Games. In addition we are excited by the vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere of Tokyo, and also really wanted to take the earliest opportunity to show that world archers stand with Japan, after the tremendous challenges that came to the country in 2011.” “Except for the World Games field archery competition in Akita (in 2000, under sanction of IWGA); Japan has not hosted a World Archery sanctioned, world level archery event, in modem history. We believe that this event will be very important in promoting archery in the Asia region. In addition, Japan is now always among the top contenders at world events. So this is a great chance for the Japan team to show the progress it has made to its home crowd for the first time. World Archery also sees this as an important opportunity to establish a closer working relationship with Japanese archery - shooters, officials and the infrastructure are all very important to us.”
Springtime in Shanghai For several years now. the last circuit event for the World Cup has been in Shanghai, China, generally in August- the beginning of ty'phoon season. As a result, several of the World Cup events held there have experienced severe weather, twice forcing changes to the schedule and finals venues. That may change in 2012, as the Shanghai event will move to first on the calendar, scheduled for the second week of April. World Archery Secretary-General Tom Dielen mentions, “in spite of the weather, Shanghai has produced several world and continental records. The venue next to the river in 2011 was challenging for wind but gave a great view on the city panorama. In 2012 we are expected to be even more in the City center with more protected conditions. Shanghai could be the biggest event of the year since it is at the start of the Season.”
Archers love Antalya The second World Cup event for the season- two weeks after the conclusion of Shanghai- is once again set in what is arguably the most popular destination on the circuit- the sun-drenched resort city of Antalya Turkey. In the past few years Antalya’s event has been a showcase for archery as influential and powerful International Olympic Committee members have made it a point to visit the finals two years running.
Heart of Tokyo The competition venue, in Hibiya Park, is in the very heart of Tokyo- and only a few hundred meters from the sacred grounds of the Imperial Palace of Japan. “With the concentration of potential spectators in and around the competition venue, and the tremendous convenience of attending the event (near many major train stations) we expect tremendous demand for tickets for the Tokyo Finals. I think this will be a beautiful and exciting venue and a great showcase for our sport” said WA’s Events Director. Mr. Juan-Carlos HOLGADO, team Gold Medalist of the 1992 Olympic Games. “We are also working with the national broadcaster, NHK, to bring the event to many more homes throughout Japan and the world” said Holgado, who has been running the World Cup events since their inception in 2006. The All-Japan Archery federation is handling distribution of tickets and spectator space allocation, and will also be instrumental in selecting the teams representing Japan.
World Cup Season Preview
Last Olympic Chance in Ogden 2012 sees competitors return to Ogden, Utah, which will hold the final World Cup circuit event of the season before the Grand Final. A new venue, the Golden Spike Event Center, will host the competition, which takes on a critical role this year- as the last qualifying event for the Olympic Games, Ogden is sure to be number one on the calendar for shooters from countries like Japan and host USA that did not get their full Olympic quota at the 2011 World Championships.
2012 World Cup Grand Final to Tokyo The World Cup Grand Final always strives for spectacular settings, and 2012 is no exception. Setjust a few hundred meters from the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, the 2012 Grand Final of the Archery World Cup in Japan will pit the world’s 32 absolute best archers against each other, and when the battle ends, there will be 12

According to Tom Dielen, the World Cup finals generates nearly one hundred million yen in positive economic flow for the Tokyo region, filling more than 500 hotel room nights and bringing not only the top 32 shooters to Japan, but international support staff, family members and many others- making the event a touristic boost for the host as well. morning. Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk—we would have lost 38,000 men instead of 3,800. Mistake number two: when the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those ships to America to be repaired. As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and can be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time we could have towed them to America. And I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships. Mistake number three: every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply. That’s why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make or God was taking care of America. Admiral Nimitz was a Texan, bom and raised in Fredericksburg, Texas—he was a born optimist. But anyway you look at it—Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in a situation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair and defeatism. President Roosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job. We desperately needed a leader that could see silver linings in the midst of the clouds of dejection, despair and defeat. 1 believe there is purpose and reason as to why our national motto is, IN GOD WE TRUST. I hope you can use this story to motivate you to even greater success in 2012. As always, shoot straight with your bow and with your personal and spiritual life.
Since the historical date of December 7, 1941. has arrived once again, I thought I would use it for this article. From a book, Reflections on Pearl Harbor by Admiral Chester Nimitz, I learned the following about optimism. Sunday, December 7th, 1941—Admiral Chester Nimitz was attending a concert in Washington D.C. He was paged and told there was a phone call for him. When he answered the phone, it was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the phone. He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz) would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve. 1941. There was such a spirit of despair, dejection and defeat—you would have thought the Japanese had already won the war. On Christmas Day. 1941. Adm. Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters everywhere you looked. As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked. "‘Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?” Admiral Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice. Admiral Nimitz said. “The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make, or God was taking care of America. Which do you think it was?” Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, “What do mean by saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?” Nimitz explained: Mistake number one: the Japanese attacked on Sunday

The 5th annual Presley’s Midwest Open Archery Tournament was held on December 3rd & 4th. 2011 at Presley’s Outdoors in Bartonville. Illinois. 193 archers from 14 different states attended this event. The tournament follows the same shooting rounds, and scoring format as the Iowa Pro-Am. The first round is shot on the NFAA blue face with the X-ring counting as 6 points, and the remainder of the spot counting five points, for a total possible of 360 points. The second round is shot on the multi-color “Vegas” target face and is scored with the “inner-X” as 11 points, then 10 points for the inner gold ring, and 9 points for the remainder of the “gold” fora total possible of330 points.

There are two major divisions for this tournament; the Amateur (trophy) division, and the Championship (money) Division. Each division has numerous classes that sub-divide the shooters further. Trophy Shooters shoot only for awards in this tournament, and are not eligible for any monetary prizes. One added feature of this tournament is the awarding of an Aurora Pro double bowcase, emblazoned with the Presley's Outdoors logo to each of the following Overall winners: Amateur Overall Female Champion and Amateur Overall Male Champion; Overall Female Championship,
and Overall Male Championship. What this means is that any male or female in the Amateur Division or the Championship Division is eligible to win this award. regardless of age or shooting class. This makes for a very interesting tournament and competition for the Overall High Score Aw'ard! For the 2011 event once again, in the Amateur Division, the Male Overall Champion bowcase was won by a Young Adult, Danny Button, with a fine total score of 678. We had a tie for the Overall Amateur Lady’s Champion with Connie Schrader, competing in A-F-BHFS (MO) and 11-year old CUB. Brooke Miller (MO), C-F-FS, tying at 649. Both ladies were awarded an Aurora bowcase. This is due to the age of the younger lady. It was Brooke’s first-ever major event and she has only been shooting a bow since April, 2011. It is the first time in

The Championship Senior Men's Freestyle Class was won by David Barnsdale (Ml) on the strength of his perfect 360 score on Saturday to finish with a total of 678. Dave took home a check for $844.06. Dave also tied the tournament record previously held solely by Don Ward. Don Ward (WI) shot a strong round on Sunday, but ended up one point off the pace from David Barnsdale. Don

In the Senior Female Freestyle Class, Karol Swank won with a score of 605, while Janette Domke shot a score of 585 for 2nd place. Marcia Jones shot a 613 in Amateur Female Bowhunter Freestyle. Bob Shipman (IA) also won the Senior Male Bowhunter Freestyle Class forthe 3rd year in a row with a 651, while Ray Jones (IA) shot a total score of 621, followed by Wayne Thomas (IL) with a 548. For the younger folks, the Youth Male Freestyle Class was won by Missouri’s Zach Burch with a 652, while 2nd place went to Kyle Lex with a score of 643.
Logan Wehner (MO) took 3rd place with a score of570. In the Youth Female Freestyle Class, Molly Veith. from Iowa won for the 2nd year in a row with a score of 645. 2nd place went to Cassie Hancock (MO) with a 617, while 3rd place was taken by Hannah Zachman in her first tournament as a Youth, with a score of 612. Danny Button (WI) came out strong on Saturday in the Young Adult Male Freestyle class. Danny shot a 359/360 on Saturday and continued with a 319 on Sunday. This resulted in Danny not only winning the Young Adult Male Freestyle championship, but he also took the Overall Men’s Amateur Championship and the Aurora bowcase with his total score of

took home a 2nd place check for $463.33. Joe Kapp (IN), with a score of 676, took 3rd place ($312.24). The 4th place check for $215.55 went to Jim Bums (WI) with a 675 total score. Jeff Dumke (WI) took home a 5th place check for $179.29 with his total score of 673. In all, the total money payout for the Championship Division was $11,835. Insert Pic: Toeing the Line In the Amateur Female Bowhunter Freestyle Class, Connie Schraeder (MO), on the strength of her strong 342 on Saturday, and another strong performance on Sunday with a score of 307 was able to get the win and the tie for the Overall Amateur Women’s Championship bow case at 649. Katherine Potter, also from Missouri, earned 2nd with a score of 632, closely followed by Iowan, Barb Sharp with a 621. The Amateur Female Freestyle Class was a tight race right up until the final ends on Sunday. Jodi Radaj (WI) came out on top with a 648, followed by Debi Reed (MO) with a 646, and Jessica Button (WI) along with Carla Gambill (IN), both with 644’s. Jason Forck(IL) had his game together on Saturday, and continued it on Sunday to take 1st Place in the Amateur Male Bowhunter Freestyle class with a score of 666. This also tied the Tournament Record for this class, previously held by Chris Botkins (MO). Kenny Kays (IN), on the strength of his 306 on Sunday, out-distanced 3rd place winner Ethan Mooberry (IL), 641 to 640. The competition in the Amateur Men’s Freestyle class, as always, was keen. However, Ryan Greenlief became the first Amateur to shoot a perfect 360 on the NFAA 360 round on Saturday and used that as a springboard to win first place with a 675 over Spencer McCutchan (MO) with a 674. 3rd Place went to Eric Kirschling (WI) with a 665. In the Amateur Senior Male Freestyle Class, there was once again a close race. After Saturday's round, Jim Krumel (IN) had a four point lead over Chris McDonald (IL), 351 to 347. Once again, it came down to who could hold up against the surge of scoring and pressure. Chris McDonald's 309 wasn’t enough to catch Jim Krumel, who pulled out the victory by shooting a 307 for the two-point victory, 658 to 656. 3rd place went to Richard Pauley (1A), with a score of 652. A new Class was added this year, that being the Master Senior Male Freestyle (for age 65 and over). Doug Grade (WI) used his strong 350 score and a fine 3 14 on Sunday to win with a 664. 2nd Place was won by Norm Swank (IA) with a score of 642. In further action, Alex Wider (IL) set a new tournament record and also won the Amateur Male Olympic with a 638.

The Younger Set In the Cub Divisions, ll-year old Brooke Miller (MO), shooting in her first major competition outside of 4-H, was consistent both days and shot score of 649 to win 1st place in the Cub Female Freestyle Class. In addition to this, Brooke also tied for the Lady’s Overall High score and took home an Aurora Bowcase. Shock was an understatement, as Brooke had thought that she had won only the 1st Place mug (she wanted that quiver!!). When the announcement was made. I must say that Brooke wasn’t the only one in the audience that was shocked! A CUB had finally done it in gamering the coveted Aurora bowcase! 2nd Place went to Hailee Zachman (IL) with a 533. Connor Wilson (MO) shot a score of 672 to win the Cub Male Freestyle class and tic the tournament record. 2nd place went to Alec Botkins (MO) with a score of 635. 3rd place went to young Nathan Koch (IL) who was competing in his firstever tournament with a score of469. The Archers of the IFAA are indeed becoming closer with every event in fact every World IFAAChampionships is becoming more like a family reunion as archers from around the world meet and renew old friendships.
The 2011 IFAA World Indoor Championships in Pretoria have been another wonderful example ofThe World Family of Archers coming together again. Heather (my wife) and I arrived knowing that we would meet friends from previous competitions but were

surprised at just how many. With the South American archers taking to the IFAA format with great enthusiasm Argentina and Brazil have shown their commitment by sending good size teams to South Africa. Most of these archers we had met at the 2009 World Indoor in Buenos Aires and now know to be IFAA family members as well as firm friends. India has also embraced the IFAA by sending a strong contingent of young archers for their first foray into the WIAC with considerable success, demonstrating the growth and popularity of archery in India. The Pretoria World Indoor was truly spectacular from start to finish; the venue was excellent to shoot in with everything you could hope for at a world Championships. The South African organisers Leonie Oosthuizen (SANIFAA Vice President), Marietjie Fryer (general Secretary) along with Petrus van Breda (entering the scores) and their band of Volunteers who had thought of everything we could possibly require making it a wonderful shoot. The first couple of registration days gave all competitors plenty of time to renew old friendships and start many new ones. The separate practice range worked well and gave plenty' of time and space for that final adjustment or to just check over gear and form after a long flight to South Africa. Another aspect of a good shoot are the target buts these can destroy a competitors scores not to mention an archers arm, for this shoot we had targets that caught the arrows and didn’t wreck your shoulder pulling them out thanks to Juan Spies and his team of workers from Allycat industries. Also in the equipment line we had at least three local bow shops on site not just to sell but to do all those emergency repairs without gouging you on prices. 1 w'as just one of those to be helped when after our bow case arrived 2 days late I found that my stabilizer was smashed, within minutes of Petrus making a call had a new X10 on the way. this is just one example of how well we were looked after. A few things looked a little different to past World Championships one being the flags, bunting and posters leading into the hall and decorating the venue. Most archers have seen the IFAA logo before but this time it was joined by the World Family of Archers logo this also is not new to many but adorning this was a simple statement reading Patronage by TAFISA. This in itself will not seem earth shattering to many but it marks a new direction for the IFAA as we are now officially recognised

YOUTH yes young archers, S1N1FAA have managed to bring many cubs and junior archers into the game and what’s more many of these young archers are displaying excellent skills and their dedication to archery shows through in the score sheet for the 2011 WIAC. With SANIFAA's ongoing commitment to supporting their next generation of archers I am sure South Africa has a long and achievement rich future in our wonderful sport. Day one of competition delivered the same mix of emotions for the archers as normal, from exhilaration to tears but then this is sport and as such it brings with it all the emotions we humans are capable of. The planning and hard work of the organisers was paying off with no real problems as all went off like clockwork and this pretty much sums up the way the entire competition flowed through to the closing ceremony. Day two was on us and as those who have shot this format will attest by this time everyone has settled into their routine with some classes starting to show The Junior line shooting on the third day. a leading score or two however this time a significant number of archers looked like making it through to the shoot off at the end by a world sport governing body through TAF1SA patronage. TAF1SA “The Association for International Sport for All" as the of day three, this was also evident in the youth classes. NEWS RELEASE Gretel Dabovich has been recognised in the Queen's birthday honours with the award of the Order of Australia Medal ( OAM ). The OAM recognises Australian citizens for achievement or meritorious service. Gretel has been recognised for service and achievements in an archery Career continuing for over 55 years. Her early career was as a prominent archer at state, national and international level as well as involvement in administration at state and club level including on the committee for the FITA world target archery championships in Adelaide in 1987. Following an accident at an IFAA national tournament in 1994 she was unable to continue shooting so devoted her time to administration at state and national level including 10 years as President of Archery S.A. and is currently a member of Archery Australia awards committee, Vice President Archery S.A. a member of Sport S.A. awards committee, and a member of the organising committee for the Masters Games to be held in Adelaide in October 2011. She maintained her involvement from 2005 - 2008 while she was treated for Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma from which she is currently in remission. Firenock 2012 EZcoil wire connector Since many of our nocks are meant for high speed bow/crossbow, the pass wire locking system is no longer needed. So for those who love Firenock but hate the wire connector, we offer you our new EZcoil. With this coil system, one only need to push the battery through the coil and that is it. No need to twisting or bending anymore. The Ezcoil system only work in a Firenock system when extreme shock end cap are present as it no longer has ability to hold the battery form moving forward. Bracket for the iPhone For many years, people wanted a bow sight that one can easily change pin size, color, sight rings, reliable 3 axis adjustment, video capability, range finding, night vision, thermo sensing. pendulum sight capability. iBowSight should do all of them as it can handle all these requirement with today's ultra high tech smart phone system and a good holding bracket. iBowSight consist of a phone_sight bracket system, an app. an lens and other add on for current and future functions. The current bracket systems allow one to take the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4S on and off the bow with +/- 0.05 inches of variance every time in less then 5 seconds. The bracket system also has a lens mounting system for different grade of optics one would want to purchase with the sight. Last one need to add the app which allow one to do all of the above. So instead of having physical pin, one now have video based pin, very similar to the head up display for pilots. We hope to have the pulse laser system done before August 2012 so we should make range finding a thing of the past as the sight will not just provide pin position, but actual shooting solution base on angle, and trajectory of the arrow itself. In version 1.0 which there will come standard with

Firenock AeroPoint Since the first day of archery when screw in Point and Insert are invented, there is always the issue of the points and insert are not concentric. We at Firenock had learned a lot from the crossbow experience and full understand how important concentric point is to accuracy. Thus we are introducing the AeroPoint (US and International Pat. pend). It is a dual O-rings system that allow a field point and/ or broad head to be concentric by the fact it is screw together. a way to level the jig so, a bulls eye level is now part of the jig and an arrow water level is also availed. All these improvement do not come cheap, but we only added $25.00 to the bare jig price, the bare jig is now retail for SI24.95. Everything should be available by December 4th 2011.
Firenock AeroInsert A & AeroInsertD
For 2012, there are quit a few major improvement on Aerovane Jig. Aerovane Jig. Aerovane Jig’s index is made of titanium hard coated CNC aluminum matted with ABEC#5 ceramic ball bearing for perfect alignment and smoothness. The matched support hook is also supported by 2 ball bearings which allowing the arrow to be ftilly supported and for smooth operation. For arrow holding, a triple O-rings plus a wedge design is used to ensure perfect arrow holding while fletching. The duel magnet design allows precision angle adjustment. Each magnet are supported by independent 1mm per turn brass machine screw which can be further tightened by hand for fine adjustment and locked down via an alien key. For 2012, there are quite a few improvements we did to the Aerovane Jig. We have change the material of a few parts from brass to stainless; the hook knob, the depth screw are the two seems to have the most issue with customer who use their tools seriously. With stainless parts, they are that much more durable. For long term durability and be able to maintain the precision of the index, we added an index plug. So in case the index ever feel loose due to wear , the only thing one need to do it is to replace the plug which will bring the jig back to the 1/72 degree or better in precision again. Last, with the adjustable chuck and hook ready, it is obvious we need January-February 2012
To address the super slim arrow which usually have an issue with issue with broken insert, misalignment of Inserts, and insert that will mushroom when impact really hard object. For 2012, there is be no less than 3 insert system available from Firenock LLC. The Aerolnsert-A (US and International Pat. pend), AeroInsert D (US and International Pat. pend), the AeroInsert_A series is for slim arrow thinner than 0.230” and AeroInsert D series is for arrow larger or equal to 0.300" The Aeroinsert_A has a backward angle just behind the Insert which allows a tapered arrow to have an anchor point at the inside of the insert. This will automatically concentric the shaft to the insert and levitate the forward pressure from the carbon tubing itself.
Aerovane Precision Compact Water level in any bow set up and low viscosity gluing environment, precision waterlevel to make sure the arrow is level is a must. That is why Firenock offers a precision water level. It is machined Aluminum, 4 ball bearing, and a brass knob. It is an open design so it can be position on an arrow from the side without need to thread from either end of an arrow. The compact design make it extreme portable. In case of the ultra heavy duty cross bolts, the answer to the problem of mushrooming is not thicker wall but better design to minimize weight but add strength. AeroInsert D excels in both. By adding a seconds shoulder on an insert, one now can add a 2nd carbon tube and make a hybrid insert which not only add spine rating to the front of the arrow, but it also do not increase weight to achieve weight forward like typical brass or stainless insert. The fact that a much longer and flexible hybrid insert are used instead of a high density metal increase the total glue surface and technically eliminate mushrooming of a crossbow bolt even when shot into concrete at high speed.

New for 2012 You just can't stop the creative and archery loving folks at TRUEFLIGHT FEATHERS from coming up with new ideas, new products, and new ways to enjoy archery. For 2012, they’ve created a very interesting camo pattern variation of their popular TRUEFLIGHT BARRED patterns.
The “modifications” are very simple. First, we add a larger “clamp” to firmly hold the foam disc on the launcher “ami”. We typically use scrap sheet metal, bolted or screwed to the original launch arm, but with a wide enough “gap” to match the thickness of the foam disc. The friction, or clamping force of the “clamp” as well as the starting position of the disc can be adjusted to change the flight path of the disc.
The new "TRUEFLIGHT CAMO" pattern is a really irregular array of lines, patches and blotches - very much in keeping with the latest ideas in military camo. The pattern blends in very well with a wide variety of natural backgrounds. Like the original “TRUEFLIGHT BARRED”, the new “Camo” patterns have a good print on BOTH sides of the feather. Also like the original “TRUEFLIGHT BARRED”, the web of the feather is not “glued together” or damaged by an ink - the original feathers natural “Velcro” action is unchanged, as is the very light weight of the feather. A Good Year!
Next, we usually tilt the “launcher” upwards so that the path of the disc is mostly in a vertical plane, instead of a horizontal plane. We like to use about a 20 foot long “trigger” rope to activate the arm release from a safe distance. For foam discs, we typically use “Ethafoam” (polyethylene foam plastic) 1 to 2 inches thick, cut into a 12 to 18 inch diameter circle. (The foam is available from “McMaster-Carr” and is similar to that used in many archery targets). The aerial targets are a great deal of fun. This kind of launcher does have to be manually “re-loaded” after each launch, but a dozen or more shooters can shoot simultaneously at the same flying disc. The Laport Company, of course sells an automatic multi disk launcher, but the modified trap or skeet launcher idea is a fine way to get started for a much lower cost.

All archers would like to improve their shooting skills. Some can afford the luxury of a private coach or attend a good shooter’s school. Others cannot. Any person can become a good archer with or without a coach. The advantage of having a coach is to shorten the learning curve and to get you back on track quickly when you encounter trouble. The whole key to becoming a good shot is consistency. There isn’t necessarily a right way or a wrong way to shoot. The use of certain muscle groups when executing a shot can make it much easier to develop consistency. When I work with an archer, I am looking for inconsistencies in his or her form. If the person is doing something in a different way than the mental picture I have of perfect form, 1 do not worry about it as long as the individual does it the same every time. This is what you need to look at and evaluate in your own form. The archery shot is actually relatively simple. The bow arm needs to have consistent pressure towards the target and the release arm needs to maintain consistent pressure away from the target. First, let’s look at the bow arm. The forward pressure should be executed with the same amount of force and in the same direction on every shot. Examine your form by shooting numerous shots at a bull’s-eye target at ten yards. Pay attention to how your bow arm reacts. If done properly, it should move to the same position each time the arrow is released. Once you have mastered this, shoot the target at twenty yards for score. Set up a video camera in front of you and film a shooting series. Afterwards, evaluate the reaction of your bow arm and see January-February 2012
if you maintained consistency. A common problem that occurs is when an archer attempts to over-aim the shot. When this happens, the degree and angle of forward pressure is changed and the bow ami reacts differently. With a compound bow, over ninety-percent of the misses come from the bow arm. If this happens to you, strong concentration and form work will help remedy the situation. Next, look at the release arm and hand. Shoot a series of shots from ten yards at a bull’s-eye target and video the process. When viewing the tape, examine it to determine if your release hand took the same path and ended in the same position on each shot. If not, continue shooting at ten yards until you achieve consistency. If you are trying to maintain backpressure with your arm muscles, it will be difficult to be consistent. The process is much easier if you pull with the muscles in your back. Once you have established a good release at ten yards, shoot at twenty yards for score. Again, video and evaluate the sequence. is having the proof that consistency is present. Ifyou are not replicating your shots, you can identify where you are having difficulty. Once you have cleaned up both the bow arm and the release arm, it is time to evaluate the whole shot process. Shoot, score, and video a series of twenty shots at the same target, but this time move back to thirty yards. After each shot, call out the score of the arrow, in order to record it on video. At the longer distance, it is common for an archer to over-aim the shot in an attempt to fine-tune the sighting. When this occurs, the shooting rhythm slows and the form starts breaking down. Go over the video and identify where your form changed on any missed shots. Once you have identified the problem, you will be able to correct it. By becoming more involved in the shot process and examining it through videotapes, you can develop a more consistent form and successfully shoot tighter groups.

Welcome again to the Senior Comer, located right here in beautiful Wading River, NY. If you’ve never been to Long Island, you should come for a visit and sample some of our famous “Long Island Ice Tea". How this concoction of five different kinds of booze ever got associated with Long Island, 1’11 never know. Instant Update: With a little help from Google and Wikipedia the mystery' has been solved. It turns out that the drink was invented right here on LI at the Oak Beach Inn, a famous seaside hangout in the summer months. Getting back to reality, we're a 125 mile long island which includes the NYC boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens and two counties, Nassau, which is one of the richest in the nation and Suffolk where the crowded housing to the west thins out as you travel toward Montauk Point, the eastern end if the Island. It's a crowded strip of land, to be sure, with a total population of 7.5 million if the two NYC boroughs are included and 2.8 million alone in the two counties east of the city. Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the south and the Long Island Sound on the north, which moderate the weather extremes of the northeast, we have a nice four season climate with lots of beach time in the summer and enough snow in the winter to make things interesting. When the only residents were the original Native American inhabitants it must have been a paradise. Hardwood forests with abundant game, like deer and turkeys and all the seafood you could harvest from either coast. It’s way different now but still a nice place to live if you can deal with a little faster pace of life. Depending on whether you think of it as the last shoot of the year or the first shoot of a new season, the North American Field Archery Championship is a great way to start or end your season. For me it’s the last chance in each year to shoot some archery outdoors and I've done just that for the last 10 years. I did skip the year they moved it to Houston but so did most of the other regulars and the Everglades Archers hosted their own shoot that year so the only difference was that it wasn’t an IFAA tournament. That didn’t hurt any feelings though. The IFAA has their own way of doing things which most of us NFAA types don’t really like anyway. After the big win I had this year at the Senior Games in Houston, my archery game has settled back into the doldrums and I didn’t shoot very well in the Huntsman Games in October or at the N AFAC shoot. Making major changes to your game can work great for awhile but it’s usually only a temporary spurt before sliding back to normal. 1 guess it’s a good thing for me though; otherwise nobody would be buying releases, trying to find that legendary “golden rivet”. NAFAC has always been kind of tough for me anyway. Our outdoor season in the northeast winds up at the end of August and by the time December rolls around I’m really out of the loop as far as shooting competitively. What can I say about this shoot that you haven’t heard ten times before? The Everglade Archers did their usual superb job in setting up the range and cooking some great tasting game for the Beast Feast. Tim Austin once again was at his best in handling the scorecards and awards and Steve Kendrick, IFAA Vice President, was there as well, bring a little bit of the IFAA spirit with him
Proposed Format Change for the WAF Car Shoot-off 1)

After the formation of the WAF and following their acquisition of the Vegas Shoot and the Atlantic City Classic, a sagging attendance at the A.C. Classic brought about a new incentive aimed at trying to induce archers to attend this final shoot. Anyone attending all three of the festival shoots would be eligible to participate in a shoot-off for a new car following the completion of competition of the A.C. Classic. A new target was designed and a “last man standing” format was decided on. Starting at 5 yards, each eligible archer would shoot one arrow at his own target. Those archers who scored a ten, would advance to the next shot at 10 yards. Those who missed the ten ring were eliminated. This continued in 5 yard increments until only one archer was able to hit the ten ring and he/she was declared the winner of the car. This typically happened at the 40 to 50 yard range.

The premise of the offer, to have a chance to win a new car by attending all three shoots is flawed and not doing as much as it could to boost the attendance of the final shoot, now called the First Dakota Bank Classic. Basically every archer in the shoot-off, regardless of skill, is going head to head against the finest archers in the world at each distance. This means that anyone who wants to be in that final round and win the car, would have to match shots with archers such as Jesse Broadwater, Dave Cousins, etc. for 8 or more shots. Do the Joe’s we’re trying to entice to come to this last shoot have a real chance to win the car? No way. Looking at the results of previous shoot-offs proves the point that only the very best pro archers have any chance. Multiple car wins by one person further proves the point.

Final thoughts on this proposal
Since the pros have many other incentives to attend this final shoot of the festival, namely the large purse they are shooting for. the manufacturer’s contingency awards and for some, a chance to shoot fora one million dollar payout any reduction in their chances of winning the car should have little effect in their attendance. For the Joe’s however, having a real chance of winning the car should provide a very real inducement for them to attend. If the initial division puts you on a bale with 15 other archers, you have a one in fifteen chance of advancing to the round of 16 and that places you only four shots from the prize. With odds like that. I would imagine that most people would think that it would be worth the extra effort to attend the final shoot.

After some discussion with other interested archers, the following possible changes were made.
a) My original concept was just to have one target at which everyone would take one shot and the closest to the hidden spot would be the winner. I do think the round of 16, 8 4 and 2 would add some excitement though, if it's decided to go with an all luck format. This format would certainly be the fairest in giving everyone an equal chance. b) Have the luck based hidden spot format change to a skill format at some point in the finals. This could be done by making the closest shot to the X the winner, instead of using the hidden spot.
Another alternative could be to award cash prizes to the lucky 16 finalists based on their final round placement. This would spread the wealth around and give everyone a chance to go home with a nice cash prize. Here’s how it could work. 1) The 16 finalists would be selected by the 16 bale hidden spot shot. The weather was absolutely perfect, and as always Everglades Archers were superior hosts with good food and friendly helpful attitudes. The beast feast was well received and the Gilliards and Bill Coulter came from Ft Lauderdale to help with the cooking. High score for the tournament was 1670 points shot by Jacob Marlow from Northwest Florida - age 16, shooting Junior Male Freestyle Unlimited. His scores are world records and so were two of Daisy Clark's scores in Junior Women Freestyle Unlimited... she came from England with her Dad and her Sister. We had 105 archers shooting: 2 cub, 5 junior, 45 adult, and 53 veteran.

Dr. Dave Samuel Bowhunter, Contributor to the Sport
Class of 2007 Dave Samuel, widely recognized and respected, West Virginia University professor emeritus has spent three full decades teaching WVU wildlife management classes, but his impact as an educator, bowhunting activ ist, and author transcends the boundaries of any single university or state. In fact, the influence generated by "Dr. Dave" stretches to the far corners of the twentyfirst century world.
Since 1971 when Dave became Conservation Editor of Bowhunter Magazine, he steadily built a reputation as one of archery's most reliable sources of factual pro-wildlife, pro-conservation, and pro hunting information. His 2002 book, Know Hunting, Truths, Lies & Myths, rebuts anti-hunting propa ganda while providing solid evidence of hunting's beneficial role in contemporary game management practices.
As chair of the Pope and Young Club's Conserva tion Committee, Dave helped boost P&Y Conserva■ tion Program budgets from 53,000 to an excess of $60,000 annually. While National Bowhunters Education Founda tion President, he conducted bowhunter education courses in Europe and Africa to help get bowhunt ing legalized abroad. Dave's efforts in Zimbabwe and South Africa led to legalizing bow and ar row hunting for dangerous game. In the states, he advised two graduate students working for the ; Minnesota Department of Natural resources in coni ducting the Camp I Ripley bow wound: ing study. Their I research proved that bow losses were min! imal (about 5%) and I refuted claims by the ! Humane Society of ’ the United States that 80% of deer hit with I arrows were lost.
The archery Hall of Fame is proud to announce the election of Joe St. Charles to the Board of Directors. The son of Pope and Young found er, Glenn St. Charles, Joe grew up in the archery business and began bowhunting at the age of 11. In the 1970’s he began working at the family business, Northwest Archery in Seattle, Washington and started to actively collect old archery literature and equipment.
In 1983 he begin assembling the St. Charles Museum. which later became the Pope & Young/St Charles Museum and moved to Chatfield. Minnesota.
An accredited appraiser, he has appraised the collec tions for Art Young. The Archery Hall of Fame, and Fred Bear, to name just a few. We welcome Joe,and look forward to working together as we carry on our Mission.
Joftti DiMitrajtasses at 77 Little John DiMura a Syracuse, New York archery pioneer has passed away at the age of 77. Little John an archery professional in the 60’s and 70’s worked for Robin Hood Archery and was a long time participant on the Professional Archery tour. When a surgical proce dure on his neck in the early 70's paralyzed him from the chest down, he was forced to spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair. After his accident he opened an archery shop in Syracuse and was directly responsible for outfitting. training and mentoring hundreds of bowhunters until he closed his shop a few years ago for health reasons. John was instrumental in lobbying for the law that allowed disabled archers to use a draw lock device and he developed equipment to allow wheelchair confined bowhunters to hunt again. Little John was issued the first disabled archers permit by NY State.

I have had a number of requests lately for a copy of the original “Power Archery” book. .There may be some used ones available but they are scarce and I have only one. The book was developed from a series of articles I wrote for Archery World Magazine in 1962. The articles created such an interest that the book followed. It has now been fifty years since I published those articles and the thought occurred they may be of interest to those that are archery educators or instructors. They may want to compare the information I published and the current methods used. More importantly the information on technique published much earlier by Chester Seay, Elmer, A.H. Caldwell, Marvin Schmidt and others. January-February 2012

One of die most interesting letters I’ve ever received came from one of die most interesting archers I’ve ever met—A. H. Caldwell, Jr., of Mill Valley, Cal.
I met him at the NAA National in Los zlngeles. Since then he’s sent me two books which I’d never seen. One was his own—"Standard Archery Technique”—and the odier was by Chester Seay, entitled "Archery', The Relaxed Method.” Mr. Seay is 85, and he’s started to shoot again after a short recess of 30 years. In a letter Mr. Caldwell makes some interesting com parisons of shooting techniques. He says: "I have been re reading your 'Power Archery’ series and note that you took your data from ‘the raw’ and pieced it together widi no preconceived, hide-bound forms to hinder you. What you have done is to bring all the fundamental bases of good shooting together—each one of which has been known and used for the past 500 years. I have also been reading Elmer’s 'Target Archery’ (1946), especially the section by Marvin Schmidt, in which he analyzes all the fundamental points of technique by letters and numbers, coding them to various systems: Left hand: Relaxed wrist with tension
Left hand: Moderate grip Left arm: Broken arm with tension
Right hand: Moderate hold Anchor: Center of chin Anchor: String on nose
Anchor: String cuts bow Rt. arm tension: Shoulder tension
Release: Relaxed release "He (Schmidt) goes on to say: 'Actually what happens after the release is dependent on the above outline. If you don’t think so, try shooting the code which fits Schmidt’s form and change any point not covered by the code in any manner within reason and see if the following does not happen: The left arm shoots forward, the left hand is extended and the bow partially drops through the hand. (Ed. Note: Before the day of the bowsling.) The right hand snaps backward and rubs against the throat.’ “I am enclosing,” Mr. Caldwell went on to say, "the Chester Seay pamphlet. His principles of the spread release I think are good and correct and are expressed definitely in 'Power Archery.’ When I saw your son shoot at the National my impression was, 'That smacks of Seay.' ”
Here are a few excerpts from the Seay book. When he uses the word "spread,” he means thrusting outward from the center in two directions opposite to each other. Chart 1. Imagine a headless torso with a bow in one hand and the string in the other. Let the bow and string be thrust apart or spread until die arms are fully extended level with die shoulders; the line of force will then divide the torso. If the string should break while the arms are thus fully extended, the line of force or thrust would be directly outward from the center. In diis chart only the "direction of movement” is die same as the "line of force.” In these charts we are ignoring the force of “elastic

the book. Keaggy and Seay bridged two eras when they met at UCLA
compression,” which if considered, would change the “direc tion of movement” considerably. In order to simplify the problem, we arc considering the members of the body as being non-elastic and as moving on their respective pivoting points without compression. If this "elastic compression” were taken into consideration, then the "direction of move ment" would be somewhere between "a” and “D."
Chart 2. Extend the arms directly to the front of the body, the arms being parallel, the bow in one hand and die string in the other. Thrust the hands slightly apart so that tension may be obtained. Again call on your imagination to break the string. Result: the “line of force” remains the same as in Chart 1, but the "direction of movement” has changed. Chart 3. This position is a modification of Chart 1 and Chart 2. With the arms thrust as far apart as possible and yet retaining the "line of force” in front of the body, though close to the body, let the string break as before. Again we find the "line of movement” has changed radically.
Chart ¥. You will notice that with an arrow on the bow and bodi arms in the orthodox "full draw” position, the arrow lies in the "line of force." Again let the string break, or shoot as you prefer. The "direction of movement” is practically the same as in Chart 3 and die "line of force" the same as in Charts 1, 2 and 3. Movement of all mem bers starts in the “line of force,” but as soon as the "line of force” is broken, members of the body follow "direction of movement." The arrow starts in the "line of force" and continues in that direction, because as soon as the "line of force” is broken, members of the body have no furdier control over the "line of force.” The natural movement of die bow hand will be between "a” and "D,” and never in the opposite direction, as it will be in if the fallacious "pulling” impulse is used. The "line of force” in the horizontal plane is directly from the shoulder socket of the string arm to the center of thrust in the bow hand, and both the arrow and the forearm should be in that line.

Apparently the arms work and move in sympathy with each other: note the ease with which one can rub the head with one hand and rub the stomach with the other, or pat them as the case may be; but try to Rub the head with one hand and Pat the stomach with the other and you have some thing else. Therefore, the impulse seems to go from the brain to the arms as a pair; if the impulse is to “pull," then both arms "pull”; if the impulse is to “spread” or “thrust apart,” then both arms “spread” or “thrust apart.” Normally, if one hand is “tense,” both are "tense”; if one is “relaxed,” then both are “relaxed.” From every side you hear the word “pull” used in con nection with the bow. “The bow 'pulls’ fifty pounds.” “ 'Puli’ your arrow to the head.” “ ‘Pull’ your hand under your jaw.” Therefore, when we take up the bow, it is with the intention of “pulling,” and “pull” we do, literally, al though usually subconsciously. This “pulling” is as real as though we were pulling on a rope fastened to a tree. In “pulling” we lean backward and “pull” with Both arms, and we use exactly the same action in “pulling” a bow. Notice the archers who lean away from the target when they shoot, even while they brace the bow arm rigidly and "pull” against it with the string hand. However rigidly they have the bow arm braced, the impulse to “pull” is still there, and it is in sympathy with the “pull" impulse in the string arm. Is there any force in the act of shooting a bow to cause one to lean backward? There is not; the bow is not fastened to any outside point. Now erase from your mind this “pull” impulse and sub stitute a "spreading,” “separating,” or “thrusting apart” impulse. It is as easy to “thrust” or “spread” the arms apart as it is to "pull” them both in the same direction. Simply “thrust” the arms apart evenly, realizing that it is a free, balanced “spreading apart” of the arms and not one-sided as in “pulling.” Realize also that the body has not changed its normal easy poise, but that it is evenly balanced on its own center of gravity. It is quite essential that a nice distinction be drawn between the "pull” impulse and the "spread” impulse, especially by archers who have shot for some time. You cannot “pull” except by being off balance, nor can you “spread” except by being balanced. With archers who have shot considerably, the “pulling” impulse must be uprooted, and positively uprooted, before they can begin to apply the “spreading” impulse. With beginners it is much easier, for it is the natural thing to do. As one pupil remarked, “Why so much talk about this ‘pulling’ impulse? Who wants to ‘puli’? It’s unnatural, hard to do, and besides there is nothing to ‘puli’ against.”

was happening. That’s when we noticed that we were blinking our eyes during that critical moment of release. As we learned not to blink our eyes during the shot (Newsletter #6) a whole new world was exposed. We actually could see what was going on before, during, and after the shot. With this discovery we were able to monitor a part of our shot sequence that we originally thought was impossible to see. By paying attention to this part of our sequence we realized that we were actually making nano second adjustments during the shot. Nano-second adjustments refer to any extra variables that a shooter adds in the set-up or during the actual shot that causes the arrow to hit different than the machine. (Examples: different grips on the bow, not centering peep, bow movements, creeping, different follow through, plucking the string, etc.) If you have ever shot an arrow when your sight has wandered off the spot and some how the arrow still went in the middle, chances are you’ve experienced a nano-second adjustment. It would be great if nano second adjustments only worked in our favor. Unfortunately they are not always so helpful. If you’ve missed a shot even though it felt great and was well aimed, then you have experienced the negative side of these nano-second adjustments. We soon realized, that by constantly moving our sight during practice, we were not only promoting these nano second adjustments we were also practicing them. These nano adjustments are very powerful and hard to detect. In a stress free situation they can also be quite consistent. The problem was that whenever the shot was really important w'e would try extra hard to do everything right. However, by doing this we would actually suppress these nano-second adjustments, and we would miss. So our sight settings became a major focus point to help detect nano adjustments. We found that if enough nano-adjustments are used, any sight setting could actually be good. How'ever. the more nano second adjustment we relied on. the easier it was for our shot to break down under pressure. What we truly wanted was a setting that was set for our perfect shot. The problem was weeding out all of the bad shots. Just because the arrow hit dead center did not mean it was a good shot. So we worked on developing a shooting form and a shot execution that relied on as few nano-adjustments as possible. There is no true escape from nano-adjustments. But. by becoming aware of all that’s going on during the shot, we can chose which ones we will embrace and become intimately familiar with, and which ones need to be fixed. Now we set our sight to hit where it is aimed when we do everything right. If we start hitting differently we look for the nano-adjustments causing the miss, instead of instantly adjusting our sight. This way, we can start addressing the nano-adjustments as they crop up and not continue to practice them. PS; We finally had a better understanding why our arrows were attracted to those dam black holes. During the nano-second after we would release the arrow, we would wiggle the bow, or sometimes just plain shift our aim to funnel those arrows right into the black hole. Even if we moved our sight settings, the black hole still caused us to make a nano-adjustment; it was just a bigger adjustment.
Do You Believe in Magic? Something magical seems to happen when we shoot our bows. One practice session we’ll be shooting great, smokin' arrows right in the spot. Then, the next time we shoot, our groups will be just out of the spot. In fact, they are such good groups that we finally breakdown and move our sight. For a while, our groups will be back in the spot. That’s when the magic happens, and we’ll start shooting groups out the other side of the spot. And, when it is all said and done, we end up moving our sight right back to where we started. Magic? Our tech freak minds can’t handle that, there must be a logical reason for this strange phenomenon. So we went looking for the answer. First, we had to determine if the bow was changing. We decided to start with the most temperamental part of the bow, the strings and cables. If the strings or cables stretch, the arrow will impact in a different place until they stabilize. Generally, they never truly stabilize. The rate at which they stretch just slows down. Using a shooting machine, we found that strings and cables made of spectra (fast flight) promoted accuracy problems. The fast flight seemed to always be changing, requiring us to either adjust our sight settings or our form. This made it nearly impossible to know whether our form was off, or our bow was changing. We would spend hours adjusting our form and chasing sight marks trying to figure out why we were missing. Only to find out with the aid of the shooting machine, it was the bow that had changed. We found that strings and cables made of a spectra and vectran blend worked significantly better than the spectra. They would stabilize more quickly and even after thousands of shots there was little or no change. (Keep in mind that the strings and cables we use have at least 2 twists per inch, which greatly helps with stability and serving separation.) Once we got our strings and cables to stabilize the only thing left to check were our arrows. Using the shooting machine we were able to cull out any bad arrows. When we finished, our quiver was full of arrows that all hit in the same hole. Now we were confident we had equipment that would stay consistent from practice to practice. So back to the practice butts we went, ready to dispel any thoughts of magic. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for us to realize that our problem still existed. During the practice sessions our groups were still moving out of the spot. So we would move our sight to bring the groups back to the middle. But. it wouldn’t be long before we would have to move it right back to where we started. This time we knew our equipment was not to blame. So the only thing left to figure out was what we were doing to make the shots different than the ones before. The shots seemed the same, they felt the same, they were set up the same, and to our knowledge they were shot the same. So obviously we had some baby form flaws that we were going to have to root out. After some long consideration, we decided the flaws had to be happening between when the arrow was released and when it left the bow. This presented a little bit of a problem. During that split second of the shot, the bow moved way to fast for us see what January-February 2012

Firenock's High-Tech Aerovane Fletching Jig The incredibly precise and accurate Aerovane Fletch ing Jig is a remarkable unit that is CNC machined from high grade aluminum, brass and stainless steel and held to the absolute closest tolerances. The Aerovane Jig is designed to work with most clamps available today that utilize a standard magnetic holding system for helical and straight fletch. The accessories are precision made and include a 303 stainless steel clamp, laser alignment module, 4-axis adjustable neck and interchangeable chuck and hook system for fletching all sizes of shafts. The jig and acces sories are sold separately however there is also a kit that includes the bare jig, a carrying case, a set of chucks, jig base, the adjustable 4-axis neck and the clamps. The Aerovane Jig's index is made of titanium hard coated CNC aluminum mated with an ABEC#5 ceramic ball bearing for perfect alignment and smoothness. The matched support hook also features 2 ball bearings which allow the arrow to be fully supported for smooth operation. To further secure the arrow shaft in place, the Aerovane Jig utilizes triple 0-rings plus a special wedge design to ensure perfect arrow holding while fletching. The dual magnet design also allows precision angle ad justment. Each magnet is supported by independent, 1mm per turn, brass machine screws that can be tight ened by hand for fine adjustment and then locked down using an alien key.

Perfect ret/etching with Laser Alignment Module: Aerovane laser Alignment modules was developed to make vane refletching a single vane and alignment simple and fool-proof set up on Aerovane jig simple and fool-proof. The high precision 3 lens optics sys tem one which has a final line with of 0.25 - 0.55mm. In order achieve perfect alignment, best precision and ease of use, the Aerovane laser modules are designed to be mounted about 75 mm right above the Aerovane Jig's chuck via the 2 holes with its 2 screws, with which the laser line will span from the base of the clamp alignment line to the valley of the hook set at the top of the jig. With these optional laser modules, perfect single vane re fletching can be done via any vane that is already installed on the arrow by eyes (which is believed to be 1/4 to 1/16 of a degree accurate). With these laser line alignment tools, one can precisely make perfect alignment from a perfect center line. The line laser modules will give a crisp red line on the arrow even shine through the clamp and vane are on the jig through between the clamp and on the vane when it is on the jig for perfect alignment.
