Janusz Zielinski VP Global HD Business Development

Dear reader, The first half of 2026 once again demonstrated the resilience of the Heavy Duty aftermarket. The year has been shaped by higher operating costs, rising diesel prices and road fees, the persistent shortage of drivers and continued geopolitical uncertainty. By the second quarter, however, business development had regained momentum, giving us confidence for the remainder of the year. This positive dynamic is also reflected across the N! HD community. New members have joined in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, while the N! Supplier portfolio continues to expand across strategic product categories including undercarriage, rotating electrics and diagnostic tools. NEXUS is also focused on bringing stakeholders across the community together. More than 30 N! HD members joined the Business Forum in Lausanne this spring, followed by another important opportunity to connect at Automechanika Frankfurt. We look forward to the Global N! HD Summit in Hannover in early October. Knowledge-sharing also remains firmly part of our DNA, with “Train the Trainer” sessions held this year in Poland and Portugal. Beyond business, NEXUS continues its involvement in the European Truck Racing Championship with the strong support of its N! HD supplier partners. In this edition of IN!SIDE Truck, we continue to explore the developments shaping our community and industry, with a particular focus on spare parts for Chinese trucks, buses and trailers. Enjoy this edition, and I look forward to seeing you in Hannover. Best regards.

Rising costs, growing customer expectations and the need to remain competitive are pushing businesses to improve the way they operate. Technical expertise remains essential, but workshops must also make informed decisions, optimise efficiency and identify new opportunities for growth. To face these challenges, workshops need the right tools, as well as opportunities to discover new approaches and to exchange ideas with industry experts. With this objective, NEXUS Automotive has proposed to Jupojos Technika, a NEXUS member in Lithuania, to organise a dedicated event with Knorr-Bremse on August 27th, taking the opportunity of their quarterly meeting to gather key workshops. The event brought together NEXUSTRUCK garages to explore three digital solutions focused on workshop performance, fleet connectivity and business

The new energy revolution as the core growth engine Clean energy technologies are serving as the long-term force multiplier for this physical scale. Domestically, sales of new energy commercial vehicles reached 871,000 units in 2025, pushing market penetration to 26.9%, hitting 38.3% by December alone.

INSIDERS – CHINESE TRUCKS

Light trucks and vans made up 60% of these domestic sales, heavy trucks accounted for 27%, and municipal buses comprised the remaining 13%. Overseas, Chinese new-energy commercial vehicle exports jumped 86.8% to 83,000 units in 2025. This export drive rests on vertical integration in battery and motor manufacturing, which keeps powertrain costs 30% to 40% lower than European alternatives. It also benefits from flexible vehicle architectures that allow Chinese OEMs to export pure electric, battery-swap, hydrogen fuel cell, and autonomous platforms tailored to each country’s power infrastructure. Diversified footprint builds a resilient growth profile This export footprint is widely distributed across emerging and developed markets alike. Mexico became the top individual export destination with nearly 97,000 units, propelled by nearshoring investments and expanding trade routes across North and Central America. Vietnam followed with 84,520 units due to rapid industrialization, while Saudi Arabia and Australia each imported roughly 50,000 units, demonstrating China’s ability to supply major devel-

oping infrastructure projects and strict, highly regulated mature markets with equal efficiency. Sub-Saharan Africa saw shipments surge over 80% year-on-year on the back of mining builds, while the Middle East grew by 58% as regional governments modernized public transit fleets. Outlook to 2030: deep restructuring of the Global Market Looking ahead to 2030, China’s commercial vehicle push will move beyond volume growth toward a structural shift in global manufacturing. Chinese manufacturers are projected to secure 40% to 45% of the global midrange heavy truck market by the end of the decade, dividing the global landscape into a mass market dominated by cost-competitive Chinese brands and a premium segment maintained by legacy Western brands focusing on niche fleets and uptime contracts. With annual commercial vehicle exports projected to reach two million units, new energy vehicles exceeding 30% of those shipments, and China supplying up to 40% of all global commercial vehicle components by value, the international automotive industry is adjusting to a reality where Chinese manufacturing scale permanently dictates the pace of competition.

INSIDERS – CHINESE TRUCKS

For the automotive aftermarket, this trend creates a significant opportunity. Every vehicle exported today becomes tomorrow’s maintenance, repair, and replacement business. As Chinese-built commercial vehicles continue to populate fleets around the world, demand for reliable aftermarket components and service support is set to grow in parallel. Chinese commercial vehicles expand globally According to industry analyses, China has become the world’s leading exporter of medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Growth has been particularly strong in heavy trucks, tractor units and logistics vehicles destined for developing markets where infrastructure investments, construction activities and freight transportation demand continue to rise. Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America have become strategic destinations for Chinese OEMs such as Sinotruk, Foton, Dongfeng, FAW, Shacman, JAC, and others. Importantly, the vast majority of exported trucks and trailers remain powered by conventional internal combustion engines, particularly diesel. While electrification is progressing, especially in urban applications, diesel heavy-duty vehicles continue to dominate export volumes and fleet operations across emerging markets. The picture is different in the bus segment. Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, Yutong, Higer, Zhongtong,

and Golden Dragon have established themselves among the world’s leading suppliers of electric buses, with growing deployments across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. In 2024, exports of Chinese new-energy buses grew strongly, reaching more than 15,000 units globally. Supporting Chinese OEMs from production line to aftermarket As one of the world’s leading technology suppliers, SKF is already deeply embedded in the Chinese commercial vehicle ecosystem through long-standing relationships with vehicle manufacturers and key subsystem suppliers. A particularly important area is wheelend technology, where SKF works closely not only with vehicle OEMs but also with axle manufacturers, which play a critical role in vehicle design and are often the direct purchasers of wheel-end solutions. This positioning provides a strong foundation to support vehicles throughout their lifecycle, from factory fitment to aftermarket maintenance. SKF’s commercial vehicle offering for Chinese OEM applications includes advanced wheel-end bearing and hub solutions designed to improve reliability, uptime, and service efficiency. These technologies are particularly relevant for trucks and trailers operating in demanding duty cycles, where durability and reduced total cost of ownership are essential business requirements. For the growing electric bus segment, SKF also supports OEMs with ••• I N S I D E T R U C K 12 • O C T O B E R 2026

electric-drive-related technologies and bearing solutions engineered for e-motors and electrified driveline applications. As Chinese electric buses continue expanding across EMEA and other international markets, the need for high-performance components capable of supporting efficiency, reliability, and extended service intervals becomes increasingly important. Building a comprehensive aftermarket proposition While wheel-end systems remain a cornerstone of the value proposition, fleet operators and distributors increasingly expect broader coverage from their aftermarket suppliers. This is where SKF’s comprehensive aftermarket portfolio creates additional value. Beyond wheel-end solutions, the company offers a wide range of products that help distributors and workshops support Chinese commercial vehicles throughout their service life, including: •S teering and suspension components •A uxiliary belt systems •B elt tensioners • I dler pulleys •B earing solutions for multiple vehicle applications •R epair kits and maintenance-focused service solutions

By combining OE expertise with a broad aftermarket portfolio, SKF enables distributors to consolidate sourcing, simplify inventory management and deliver trusted repair solutions for an expanding population of Chinese-built commercial vehicles operating worldwide. The Next Phase: From Vehicle Exports to Service Ecosystems One of the main challenges facing Chinese vehicle manufacturers as they expand internationally is the development of robust aftermarket support networks. Customers increasingly evaluate not only the vehicle itself but also parts availability, technical support and service responsiveness. Industry observers note that the strengthening of local service networks and spareparts availability is becoming a critical success factor for long-term expansion. This evolution creates a natural opportunity for established global aftermarket suppliers with strong logistics capabilities, local market presence and proven OE relationships. As Chinese trucks, trailers and electric buses continue their global expansion, the aftermarket will play a decisive role in ensuring these vehicles deliver reliable performance throughout their operational life. Companies with strong OEM partnerships, extensive product coverage and global distribution capabilities

will be well positioned to support this new generation of commercial vehicle fleets. The export story of Chinese commercial vehicles is no longer just about manufacturing scale. It is increasingly about lifetime vehicle support. And for the automotive aftermarket, that may be the most important opportunity of all. China’s Commercial Vehicles Go Global What the rise of Chinese trucks and buses means for the aftermarket — and how SKF helps customers move forward Chinese commercial vehicles are no longer mainly a domestic story. Trucks and buses built by Chinese manufacturers are now becoming more visible on roads far beyond China. They are moving goods in Latin America, supporting construction and mining in Africa, carrying passengers in the Middle East, and entering more competitive markets in Europe and Southeast Asia. This shift is important for the independent aftermarket. Every exported truck or bus will need service, maintenance and replacement parts during its working life. For workshops, distributors and fleet operators, this creates new business opportunities. It also brings new questions. Which parts are available? Which quality level is right? How can service teams support vehicle uptime when the vehicle parc is changing quickly? For SKF, this development is a positive opportunity to support the market

with proven commercial vehicle knowledge, high-quality components and a global aftermarket presence. As Chinese trucks and buses expand internationally, customers need partners who can help them manage complexity with confidence. A large market with growing global reach China is one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle markets. According to OICA data, China produced more than 4.26 million commercial vehicles in 2025 and more than 2.04 million heavy trucks. China also produced more than 127,000 buses and coaches in the same year. OICA sales data shows that China sold more than 4.29 million commercial vehicles in 2025, underlining the scale of the domestic market. But the biggest change is not only size. It is international growth. Mainland China’s leadership in truck and bus exports from S&P Global Mobility describes China as the world’s largest producer and exporter of medium and heavy commercial vehicles above six metric tons. It also notes that Chinese manufacturers have increased their global share over recent years, supported by cost competitiveness, strong manufacturing capacity and the ability to serve many different market needs. Exports are going to many regions. S&P Global Mobility highlights Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America as core export destinations. It also notes that Chinese manufacturers are building or planning local assembly ••• I N S I D E T R U C K 12 • O C T O B E R 2026

45

46

and manufacturing activities in markets such as Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and South Africa. This shows that the movement is not only about selling vehicles abroad. It is also about building a stronger global footprint.

bus sales had already reached full market penetration in China in 2023, and that battery electric, hybrid electric and fuel-cell electric city buses accounted for almost the full city bus market by 2024.

Public industry data also points to strong export momentum. China Vehicles News reported that China exported 785,600 trucks in 2024, up 17% year on year, with exports to markets such as Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam showing strong growth. The same source reported that China exported 81,820 buses in 2024, up 16% year on year, with Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Peru among the leading destinations.

Third, infrastructure growth in many regions supports demand for trucks and buses. Construction, mining, logistics, ports, public transport and long-distance passenger transport all require robust vehicles. In many developing markets, Chinese brands are becoming part of this expansion.

Why Chinese commercial vehicles are gaining ground Several drivers are behind this growth. First, Chinese manufacturers are often very competitive on cost. This can be attractive in markets where transport companies, municipalities and fleet owners need reliable mobility but must control investment costs. Second, Chinese vehicle makers are increasingly active in electrification. The International Council on Clean Transportation reported that sales of zero-emission trucks and buses in China reached more than 230,000 units in 2024. It also stated that electric city

I N S I D E T R U C K 12 • O C T O B E R 2026

Fourth, global supply chains have changed. S&P Global Mobility notes that Chinese manufacturers benefited from strong domestic industrial capacity during the post-pandemic period, while some other manufacturers faced shortages of chips and other components. Together, these factors make Chinese commercial vehicles a growing part of the global vehicle parc. New opportunities for the independent aftermarket The aftermarket follows the vehicle parc. When more Chinese trucks and buses enter a region, demand grows for wear parts, wheel-end components, seals, bearings, lubrication products, tools, technical support and training.

INSIDERS – CHINESE TRUCKS

This is especially important in commercial vehicles because uptime matters. A truck is not only a vehicle. It is a business asset. When it stops, delivery schedules, customer commitments and operating costs are affected. A bus has a similar role in public or private transport. Reliability, safety and service speed are therefore central to customer value. For distributors, the rise of Chinese vehicles creates a chance to build new product coverage. For workshops, it means more vehicles to service and more technical knowledge to manage. For fleets, it means they need access to parts that fit the application, perform reliably and are available when needed. At the same time, the transition can be challenging. New vehicle models may enter markets faster than the local parts network can adapt. Workshops may need product information, fitting guidance and confidence in component quality. Distributors may need to manage more references and serve a broader mix of applications. In this situation, a strong aftermarket partner can make a real difference. Where SKF adds value SKF supports the commercial vehicle aftermarket with a broad portfolio of wheel-end and related solutions. Internal SKF training and portfolio material lists commercial vehicle product categories including tapered roller bearings, wheel bearing kits, truck hub units, truck matched units, complete hubs, wheel bearing seals, grease, bearing

packers, transmission bearings, tensioners, idlers, belts, water pumps and steering and suspension components. This range is important because commercial vehicle service is not about one component only. Wheel ends, seals, lubrication and correct installation all work together. A strong bearing can still fail early if contamination, incorrect adjustment, poor lubrication or seal damage is present. SKF internal training material explains that conventional wheel bearing arrangements require correct handling, cleaning, re-greasing and adjustment, and that correct assembly and regular maintenance are essential for service life. SKF’s value is not only the part in the box. It is the combination of product quality, application knowledge, global availability and technical support. For the independent aftermarket, this helps reduce uncertainty. Workshops can work with components designed for demanding truck and trailer applications. Distributors can offer a premium brand with a wide commercial vehicle range. Fleets can focus on uptime, longer service intervals where the application allows, and lower total cost of ownership. SKF internal material also highlights customer benefits of integrated truck hub unit concepts, such as ready-tomount solutions, controlled grease quantity, sealing, fewer interfaces and lower risk of damage during assembly. These are practical benefits for service environments where time, cleanliness and correct installation matter. ••• I N S I D E T R U C K 12 • O C T O B E R 2026

Supporting customers in a changing market The rise of Chinese commercial vehicles will not look the same in every region. In some markets, the growth may come from heavy-duty trucks for construction and mining. In others, it may come from city buses, electric buses, light trucks or distribution vehicles. Some regions will need fast-moving replacement parts. Others will need more training and technical information before demand becomes mature.

serving mixed fleets and fast-changing vehicle populations, this global reach can be a major advantage.

SKF can support customers by helping them prepare. Distributors need the right range at the right time. Workshops need confidence that the part will fit and perform. Fleet operators need reliable service support to keep vehicles on the road. In all cases, the goal is the same: reduce risk, improve uptime and make maintenance easier.

For workshops, distributors and fleets, the message is clear: the vehicle parc is changing, and service needs will change with it. Success will depend on quality, availability, product knowledge and the ability to support uptime.

This is where a premium aftermarket partner brings value. SKF combines product engineering knowledge with a global footprint and a strong distribution network. Internal SKF portfolio material describes SKF as operating in 130 countries with more than 17,000 distributors, as part of a wider global company presence. For customers

Looking ahead Chinese truck and bus manufacturers are becoming stronger global players. Their growth is driven by competitive products, export momentum, electrification and expanding international networks. This will reshape the independent aftermarket over the coming years.

SKF is well placed to help customers navigate this shift. With commercial vehicle wheel-end solutions, bearings, seals, lubrication systems, hub units and technical expertise, SKF supports the aftermarket with reliable products and practical knowledge. As Chinese commercial vehicles continue to move into new markets, SKF helps customers move with confidence — today, and on the road ahead. .

More manufacturers, more technology and more regulation The most noticeable change is geographical, and it relates to the brand. Chinese manufacturers such as Sinotruk, Shacman, FAW, Foton, Dongfeng, JAC, Sany, BYD and Beiben have established a significant presence in Africa, the Middle East and other emerging markets, a development clearly confirmed by international trade data. This is not an isolated phenomenon, but rather the vanguard of a wider transformation. Commercial vehicles have become a true digital platform, featuring constant connectivity, software-defined functions, ADAS systems, on-board cybersecurity and an ever-increasing volume of data. One in four electronic systems in a modern truck is now linked to active safety functions. Their correct calibration is critical for safety, legal liability and regulatory compliance. Technological change also brings new regulatory requirements. Regulation (EU) 2018/858 guarantees independent repair workshops access to repair and maintenance information (RMI). UNECE R155 requires vehicles to be protected against unauthorised access by means of cybersecurity management systems (CSMS). And UNECE R156 requires

traceable management of the software lifecycle and remote updates (SUMS), which will be compulsory for all newly registered commercial vehicles from July 2026. A single software solution for a growing sector All these changes create new demands on the workshop, which need diagnostics tools with greater coverage, new features and increasingly advanced capabilities. Jaltest Diagnostics from Cojali is responding to the diversification of manufacturers, increasing technological complexity and new regulatory requirements. In response to the growth of Chinese manufacturers, Jaltest Diagnostics now offers support for BAIC, BYD, Beiben, C&C, CAMC, CNHTC-Sinotruk, Dayun, Dongfeng, FAW, Foton, JAC, SAICIveco Hongyan, Sany, Shacman, TriRing, andXCMG, among others, fully integrated into workshops’ existing diagnosis software used for leading European, American and Asian brands. More than 238 brands and 6,500 commercial vehicle models are combined in a single software package, without the need to purchase additional equipment every time a new manufacturer enters the market.

KEEP VEHICLE SOFTWARE AND WORKSHOP REPAIR IN SYNC A trailer comes in for routine work: brake pressure, lift axle logic, and tyre pressure settings. It looks mechanical, but UN/ECE R156 qualifies these adjustments as software updates, because a job that feels purely physical can also change the vehicle’s software state, whether the technician sees it that way or not.

I N S I D E T R U C K 12 • O C T O B E R 2026

INSIGHTS – FROM NEXUS COMMUNITY

Two records, two owners That’s because two separate records exist. The OEM holds the software record: configuration, versions, governance. The workshop holds the physical record: parts replaced, settings changed, repairs done. Neither side is doing anything wrong. But nothing automatically keeps the two aligned, so someone has to actively close the gap. What R156 requires R156 puts that accountability on the OEM, not the workshop, and it does so once: at homologation. After that point, the two tracks run separately and continuously. Software stays with the OEM. Physical maintenance stays with the workshop. One is a one-time approval; the other is ongoing. A repair example That separation shows up clearly in a real job. Take an EBS modulator swap: scan, check software status, repair, transfer settings, re-check, and escalate to the OEM if something doesn’t match. The escalation step matters most here. It shows that confirming alignment isn’t always something the workshop can resolve alone, because the authoritative software record sits with the OEM. Diagnostics does the checking This is where diagnostic tooling earns its place. A rapid ECU status overview shows where systems currently stand, so a technician can see whether physical work and software state still match.

A diagnostic history and health report make a mismatch visible early, instead of surfacing mid-repair. Neither claims to catch every case, but together they turn synchronisation into a routine check rather than something found by accident. Independent workshops feel this most Because trailer servicing runs through many independent workshops, they sit furthest from the OEM’s own software records, closest to where mismatches surface. The real constraint isn’t data access. It’s whether a workshop can identify, interpret, validate and act on that data. How ZF connects the two sides ZF’s SUMS provides central software-update governance, version management and documentation across the vehicle lifecycle. On the workshop side, ZF [pro]Diagnostics Scan handles execution: it consolidates ZF Testman, WABCO SD and WABCO TOOLBOX PLUS, giving technicians a rapid ECU status overview for ZF and WABCO systems. Together, they’re an example of linking the OEM’s software record to what happens in the workshop. As vehicles carry more software-governed systems, this kind of alignment stops being a one-off compliance step. It becomes a routine part of maintaining the vehicle correctly, for as long as it’s on the road.

The Growing Impact of Chinese Trucks on the Global Aftermarket How MANN-FILTER helps distributors turn complexity into aftermarket opportunities Chinese truck manufacturers are gaining ground across global markets and their impact no longer ends with the initial vehicle sale. As vehicle populations increase and trucks remain in operation for longer, distributors are facing a new challenge: how to identify, source and supply the right filtration solutions in a fast-growing but often complex vehicle parc.

ing for most market demand while increasingly gaining visibility across global markets. In the aftermarket, OES penetration remains limited, and manufacturers differ in their approaches to spare parts sales and distribution. Their competitive acquisition costs make them attractive for fleet operators, especially where transport companies need to expand capacity efficiently.

For the independent aftermarket, this development creates both pressure and opportunity. Chinese heavy commercial vehicles are expanding particularly strongly in developing and emerging markets. While China‘s domestic truck market is moving rapidly toward electrification, exported trucks remain largely ICE-based. For MANN+HUMMEL, this means supporting today‘s export fleets while preparing for the long-term transition to electric trucks. As MANN+HUMMEL’s premium aftermarket brand, MANN-FILTER contributes extensive aftermarket knowhow, application expertise and reliable support to help distributors identify the right filtration solutions with confidence. This makes MANN-FILTER a strong partner for distributors looking to capture demand as Chinese truck fleets mature. To provide regional perspectives, MANN+HUMMEL experts share their insights on the growing role of Chinese trucks in the aftermarket. Interview participants: § Marco Marsico, Product & Marketing Manager LATAM § Girish V., Head of Product Management India, Middle East, Africa and Turkey § May Gee Yam, Senior Manager, Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea and Australia

COEM Global Footprint: Focus on Africa, East South India, Middle East, Latin America, CIS and Central Asia

Marco Marsico, explains: “In Latin America, Chinese brands have already become a significant part of the heavy commercial vehicle market. The opportunity for the aftermarket is growing quickly, but so is the need for reliable application knowledge.” A similar development can also be observed in parts of Africa and MEA. Girish V., notes: “Across many African markets, Chinese trucks are becoming a familiar part of commercial vehicle fleets. Their acquisition cost has accelerated adoption, especially among transport companies looking to expand operations efficiently.”

When sales outpace support The rapid growth of Chinese trucks also creates a structural aftermarket challenge. In many markets, sales have developed faster than official service and spareparts networks. As a result, distributors and workshops often become the first line of support for fleets.

From vehicle growth to aftermarket demand China‘s truck market is highly concentrated with manufacturers such as Sinotruk, FOTON, Dongfeng, account-

nal equipment references are not always transparent, and online spare-parts data is often limited. This makes correct part identification a decisive success factor.

larly where vehicles are equipped with proven engine technologies,” says Girish V.

MANN-FILTER as aftermarket enabler “The biggest challenge is often not finding a part but identifying the correct one. Multiple original equipment references, fragmented application data and limited technical documentation can make the process more complex for distributors and workshops,” says Yam.

The Chinese heavy commercial vehicle aftermarket is not only a product opportunity. It is an execution challenge. To succeed in this fast-growing segment, distributors need reliable vehicle coverage information, technical guidance, quality confidence and regional support.

Chinese engine applications can be more challenging because cross-reference data is less established and technical information is not always readily accessible.

MANN-FILTER is positioned to support this transition. With MANN+HUMMEL’s original equipment heritage and global filtration expertise, the brand continuously monitors vehicle parc developments and application requirements. Today MANN-FILTER covers more than 75% of the range for oil and fuel filters, plus the majority of water separators and air filters for Chinese heavy commercial vehicles, while continuously expanding its portfolio in line with market demand. Supported by OE insight, application expertise and trusted filtration quality, MANN-FILTER helps distributors professionalize their Chinese truck aftermarket business and capture growth opportunities with confidence.

“In markets where information is limited, application expertise becomes a real competitive advantage. In many cases, the first supplier able to identify and provide the correct filtration solution gains a significant advantage,” says Marsico.

Confidence beyond price As Chinese truck fleets grow, distributors are expected to provide more than parts alone. Fast identification, dependable availability and reliable application coverage are becoming important factors in supporting workshops and fleet operators. This shift creates opportunities for distributors to differentiate through expertise and service rather than price alone. “Training and technical education play a critical role. With a broader range of Chinese truck models on the road, workshops and distributors need a better understanding of Chinese truck applications and filtration requirements,” emphasizes Yam. This is where a trusted premium brand can help. MANN-FILTER provides distributors with a quality argument in a market where customers may face uncertainty about genuine parts, correct specifications and long-term performance.

Vehicles last longer than expected The longevity of many Chinese truck fleets creates long-term opportunities in parts supply, maintenance and vehicle servicing. “Chinese trucks are staying in operation well beyond five or six years. Brands such as Sinotruk have built a positive reputation in several African markets, particu-

Applications from Top OE manufacturers benefit from existing original equipment expertise, while additional Chinese truck applications are validated through benchmarking against selected OE and key aftermarket references. This enables MANN-FILTER to systematically broaden application coverage across the growing Chinese commercial vehicle parc. “Distributors increasingly need access to cross-reference information, product matching support and reliable technical assistance. This is where MANN-FILTER can make Chinese truck business easier to execute,” says Girish V. The opportunity is clear: Chinese trucks are becoming an established part of the global commercial vehicle parc. As these fleets mature, the aftermarket will increasingly shift from vehicle sales support to lifecycle support. For distributors that prepare early, the growth potential is significant. MANN-FILTER helps partners turn this complexity into business — by supporting correct identification, reliable filtration quality and the technical confidence needed to serve a fast-growing vehicle segment.

Asian Vehicles on the Rise A New Reality for the Commercial Vehicle Market An interview with Howard Chen The global commercial vehicle landscape is changing rapidly. Asian manufacturers, particularly from China, are expanding beyond their home markets and establishing a stronger presence across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. As their footprint grows, so do the opportunities and challenges for the aftermarket industry. We spoke with Howard Chen about the forces behind this trend and what it means for the future. Asian vehicles are becoming increasingly visible around the world. What is driving this development? The biggest change is that Asian manufacturers are no longer competing on price alone. Over the past decade, they have invested heavily in quality, technology, electrification, and production efficiency. Many of today’s Asian trucks and commercial vehicles offer advanced features, strong reliability, and a competitive total cost of ownership. At the same time, manufacturers benefit from large domestic markets that allow them to scale quickly and invest in innovation. As a result, many brands are now well-positioned to expand internationally and challenge established players. Chinese OEMs seem to be leading this movement. Do you expect this to continue? Yes, Chinese manufacturers are currently driving much of the growth. They have made remarkable progress in vehicle development and are entering new markets with ambitious expansion strategies. In some regions, their products are already becoming a serious alternative for fleet operators looking to balance performance, efficiency, and operating costs. What we see today is not a short-term trend. It is a structural shift in the industry. As more Asian brands build sales and service networks globally, their presence will continue to grow. What impact will this have on the aftermarket? Every new vehicle on the road eventually needs maintenance, repairs, and replacement parts. That creates significant opportunities for the aftermarket. The challenge is timing. Companies need to understand

Howard Chen

which vehicle brands are growing, where they are growing, and how quickly they will enter the service phase of their lifecycle. Those who prepare early will have a clear advantage. Workshops and distributors need the right parts, technical information, training, and diagnostic capabilities to support these vehicles when demand accelerates. How can ZF Aftermarket support this transition? ZF is in a strong position because of its global presence and deep expertise in commercial vehicles. Many Asian manufacturers already utilize advanced technologies that are either coming from ZF or familiar to ZF. This creates opportunities to support customers with highquality replacement parts, technical know-how, and comprehensive service solutions. For example, many exported Chinese vehicles are equipped with ZF latest AMT TraXon, truck EBS system and trailer EBS system. When vehicle needs to be repaired, ZF will support the distribution network to prepare the right spare parts; our ZF [pro]Service workshop partners will be trained by ZF upfront to ensure the right quality of repair by using the ZF [pro]Diagnostics and other professional repair tools. Our role is to help the aftermarket stay ahead of market developments. Understanding future vehicle populations and preparing for emerging demand is essential. As Asian vehicles continue to gain market share, customers will need reliable partners who can ensure vehicle uptime and efficient service operations. Looking Ahead The rise of Asian commercial vehicles is reshaping the global market. What started as regional growth has evolved into a worldwide phenomenon that is influencing fleet purchasing decisions and redefining competitive dynamics. For the aftermarket, the message is clear: this is not a trend to watch from the sidelines. It is a market shift that requires preparation, investment, and a forward-looking strategy. Companies that understand these changes today will be best positioned to capture tomorrow’s opportunities.

The dangers behind apparent bargains What are counterfeit and gray market products?

These products may:

Counterfeit products are fake replicas of unknown origin and reliability. They can lead to serious vehicle malfunctions and pose significant safety risks. These fake parts are designed to closely resemble original Knorr-Bremse Components, making them difficult to distinguish at first glance. Gray market products are genuine products but sold outside of the official Knorr-Bremse distribution channels. They are often offered for applications or within regions for which they were not originally specified. Customers are sometimes deliberately mislead about the product properties and may be confronted with components that do not function properly. Often such products are being sold with incorrect packaging.

Cause serious vehicle malfunctions and pose safety risks. Fail to comply with safety regulations and type approvals. Feature incompatible hardware or software versions. Trigger malfunctions, warning lights, and require additional maintenance efforts.

Potential consequences for actors in the market: Safety Risks Counterfeit and gray market parts - especially in braking systems - pose serious safety threats. Malfunctions can lead to accidents, including fatal ones.

Legal Consequences Buyers and sellers may face legal action for trademark infringement or attempted fraud. Even trying to claim warranty on fake products can backfire.

Loss of Vehicle Approval Using non-compliant parts can void your vehicle’s certification.

Financial Liability If a product fails, the buyer may bear the cost or face distributor liability for damages caused to customers.

Stay safe – Buy smart! Counterfeit products have become increasingly sophisticated, making them difficult to identify at first glance. To ensure safety and performance, always make your purchases through official Knorr-Bremse distribution channels.

Fake or original?

Often only small deviances, incorrect packaging, or a red light in the QR code scanning indicate a gray market or counterfeit product.

Knorr-Bremse will not tolerate any violations of its intellectual property and contractual terms. Knorr-Bremse is determined to use all legal opportunities including warning-letters, cease-and-desist declarations, preliminary injunctions up to lawsuits and claims for damages and product destruction.

A price too good to be true is often not a good bargain!

If you're unsure about a product’s authenticity, contact your local Knorr-Bremse Sales Office for guidance.

Heavy-duty trucks: for the long haul Large, heavy, powerful: trucks are designed for a long service life and high mileage. The demands on them are high. Freight forwarders, fleet operators, and drivers are under constant time and cost pressure. Breakdowns must therefore be kept to a minimum.

The machine must never stop

Commercial vehicles are subjected to extreme loads. And not just because they carry heavy cargo. The vehicles have to travel great distances and are therefore usually on the road for a very long time: in the cold, in the heat, on dusty roads, uphill, and downhill. Extreme demands are placed on the peripherals such as filter systems, and thermal management. So peak performance is always required.

able, but also deliver the same performance and OE quality at an unchanged price,” says Ying Luo, Director of Sustainability and Information Technologies at NEXUS. “The seamless integration without changes to part numbers or logistics is a clear advantage for our partners.” With 85 years of filtration excellence, MANN-FILTER continues to combine tradition, innovation and transactional efficiency. One example among many is FreciousPlus, the biofunctional cabin air filter launched specifically for the aftermarket in 2014. It later became a new industry standard, even in the original equipment (OE) sector. This ability to bring innovation successfully into the market shows how MANN-FILTER creates practical solutions that are easy for partners to access, integrate and sell – and ready for the future of the aftermarket.

re:

As one of the world´s leading filtration brands, we have been doing a lot for years to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. With immediate effect, we are partially replacing the previous crude-oil-based impregnation used in many of our air and oil filters with the plant-based raw material lignin – a natural product that originates from wood. The new filter generation looks slightly different from the outside, but the high performance in OE quality remains the same! Best of all, you don´t have to choose the environmentally improved range. We automatically convert selected products – without additional part numbers or extra storage space. Sustainability made simple! MANN-FILTER – Perfect parts. Perfect service. www.mann-filter.com
