T

wenty-five years after the attacks of September 11, 2001, New York once again comes together at the place where the world changed forever. At the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan, the annual commemoration remains one of our city’s most solemn traditions—a morning centered not on speeches, but on names. Family members gather on the Memorial plaza to read aloud the names of the 2,983 men, women and children killed in the September 11 attacks and the February 26, 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. One by one, each name is spoken, reminding us that behind an almost unimaginable number is an individual life, a family and a story. Throughout the morning, moments of silence mark the times when the towers are struck and fall, the attack on the Pentagon and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93. This year, a seventh moment of silence carries particular meaning, honoring the first responders, rescue and recovery workers, survivors and members of the Lower Manhattan community who lost their lives to illnesses and injuries connected to 9/11 and its aftermath.

Vol. 6 #8 | November/D

That continuing loss is an important part of remembrance. The consequences of September 11 do not end when the smoke clears or the recovery effort concludes. They remain with families, survivors, responders and communities whose lives are forever connected to that day. Twenty-five years also brings another responsibility. An entire generation now knows September 11 only through history. Preserving the memory of what happened—and the courage, compassion and unity that followed— becomes more important with every passing year.

As evening arrives, the Tribute in Light sends two columns of blue into the New York sky, tracing an absence in the skyline while reminding us of everything that remains. Twenty-five years later, our promise remains as important as ever. Never forget. See You Next Issue,

HUNT SLONEM AT ONE ART SPACE TRIBECA THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS: A NEW YORK ART MOMENT

H

By Lillian Langtry

unt Slonem has created a world entirely his own. Rabbits, butterflies, exotic birds, brilliant color and expressive brushwork have become the unmistakable vocabulary of one of America’s most celebrated contemporary artists. His work is playful yet sophisticated, vibrant yet contemplative—an instantly recognizable language that has captivated collectors and museums around the world. Now on view at One Art Space Tribeca, Through the Looking Glass offers an intimate encounter with that extraordinary world. Slonem’s work is represented in the permanent collections of approximately 250 museums worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibition brings together the signature elements of his practice, from hypnotic groupings of bunnies to butterflies in luminous fields of color. Monumental works such as Pink Ascension are balanced by intimate pieces such as Blue Hutch, revealing the range of an artist who has made repetition, nature and color his own visual language. For Slonem, the exhibition is a journey into imagination and wonder: “A dream of what I see through the looking glass, where my creatures go, where we cannot see them, following their wonder—wonderland and inspiration, the source of all my creativity. A joyous venture.” That sense of wonder is central to Slonem’s work. His bunnies, butterflies and birds become more than recurring subjects; through repetition, they take on rhythm, movement and a dreamlike quality. Behind the exhibition is MaryAnn Giella McCulloh, curator and coowner of One Art Space Tribeca, whose ability to select artists and shape ambitious exhibitions is central to the gallery’s identity. Her connection to art began with an extraordinary family legacy. MaryAnn is the daughter of Joe Giella, the legendary comic-book artist and inker whose career included iconic work on Batman, The Flash and Green Lantern. Joe received an early opportunity from Stan Lee, and his artwork was later honored on two United States postage stamps featuring Green Lantern and The Flash. MaryAnn has developed that artistic heritage into her own distinctive role in New York’s contemporary art world. Her curatorial program has included Purvis Young and Chuck Connelly, while One Art Space’s presentation of Shepard Fairey at the Hamptons Fine Art Fair sold out. 12 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

“Through The Looking Glass” Hunt Slonem One Art Space Tribeca

14 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

MaryAnn Giella McCulloh’s selection of Hunt Slonem continues that tradition, that of pairing an artist of extraordinary stature with a gallery deeply rooted in Tribeca. “There is something almost jewel-like about Hunt Slonem’s artistry in terms of the color, texture, and repetition, from his bunnies to his butterflies and beyond, draw you in. Beneath that beauty lies a deeper visual language, where nature, imagination, color, and mystery become one. Through the Looking Glass is an invitation into his extraordinary world.” At the heart of One Art Space are MaryAnn Giella McCulloh and Mei Fung, two women whose complementary strengths and shared commitment to art shape the gallery’s direction. At 23 Warren Street, One Art Space sits in the heart of Tribeca, a neighborhood defined by historic architecture, galleries, design, culture and the unmistakable energy of downtown New York and for more than 16 years, the gallery has presented ambitious exhibitions in an intimate setting where the art takes center stage. Together, they have created a gallery deeply connected to the energy of Tribeca and the broader New York cultural community, presenting established and emerging artists from New York and internationally. Founded in Tribeca by Dan Giella, One Art Space has been part of the neighborhood’s cultural landscape for more than 16 years. Its commitment to women in the arts is also reflected in MaryAnn’s connection with the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), which recently presented an exhibition at One Art Space as part of the gallery’s longstanding program celebrating women artists. Through the Looking Glass is an invitation to experience Hunt Slonem up close—the hypnotic rhythm of his bunnies, the movement of his butterflies, the energy of his birds and the extraordinary color that has made his work so recognizable around the world.

PROFILE

DOLLY’S LASTING LIGHT

THE MUSIC ICON LEAVES A LEGACY OF SONGS, GENEROSITY AND MILLIONS OF BOOKS

F

By Michael McKensie

rom a one-room home in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee to stages around the world, Dolly Parton built a career that transcended country music. Yet alongside the songs, films and business empire stands an equally remarkable legacy of giving—one rooted in education, children, health and an enduring devotion to the community that shaped her.

There are stars whose success can be measured in records sold, awards collected and tickets purchased. And then there was Dolly Parton, whose extraordinary life ultimately became about something larger: what she could do with the success she earned. Parton, who passed away August 25 at age 80, traveled an improbable road from rural Tennessee to become one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world. Singer, songwriter, actress, author, entrepreneur and philanthropist, she spent more than six decades building a body of work that crossed genres and generations without losing its connection to the Appalachian community from which she came. Born January 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge, Tennessee, Dolly Rebecca Parton was the fourth of 12 children. Her family had little money, but music was everywhere. Her mother sang traditional songs and ballads; her grandfather was a preacher and musician. By age 10, Dolly was performing on local radio and television, and at 13 she appeared at the Grand Ole Opry. The day after graduating from high school in 1964, she headed for Nashville. Her breakthrough came after joining The Porter Wagoner Show in 1967. Success followed both as Wagoner’s duet partner and as a solo performer, but Parton was determined to chart her own course. By the 1970s, songs including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You” had established her as both a distinctive vocalist and an exceptional songwriter. She eventually crossed comfortably into pop music and Hollywood, starring in films including 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias. In 1999 she entered the Country Music Hall of Fame; in 2022, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame followed. SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 25

BUT ONE OF PARTON’S MOST CONSEQUENTIAL CREATIONS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH A RECORDING STUDIO. In 1988 she established The Dollywood Foundation, initially focusing on educational achievement in her native Sevier County. An early initiative, the Buddy Program, offered seventh- and eighth-graders financial incentives for completing high school. According to the Foundation, the dropout rate for those classes fell from 35 percent to 6 percent. Today, the Foundation also awards annual $15,000 scholarships to students at each of Sevier County’s five high schools. THEN CAME THE IDEA THAT WOULD BECOME ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST EARLY-CHILDHOOD LITERACY PROGRAMS. Parton created Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 1995 in honor of her father, Robert Lee Parton, who could not read or write. The concept was beautifully simple: children from birth to age five would receive a free, age-appropriate book in the mail every month, regardless of family income. What began with just over 1,700 books for children in Sevier County expanded nationally beginning in 2000 and eventually internationally. Today the Imagination Library operates in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and the Republic of Ireland. By the end of 2025, it had gifted more than 304 million books since its founding; the program now mails more than three million books every month. The scale is impressive, but the philosophy behind it was characteristically Dolly. Books were not merely educational tools. They were seeds—something placed in a child’s hands that might allow a dream to take root. Her philanthropy extended well beyond literacy. After devastating wildfires swept through Sevier County in 2016, the Dollywood Foundation established the My People Fund within days. Families whose primary residences were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable received $1,000 a month for six months, followed by a final $5,000 payment as donations poured into the relief effort. Additional funds provided scholarships for high-school students whose homes had been lost. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Parton donated to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, creating the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund. Vanderbilt confirmed that her support helped fund research connected to the early Moderna vaccine trials. She later donated another $1 million to Vanderbilt to support pediatric infectious-disease research and had previously supported pediatric cancer programs there. In 2022, those efforts earned Parton the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy, recognizing her work in education, poverty relief, college access and medical research. Perhaps that is why Dolly Parton occupied such an unusual place in American culture. The rhinestones, towering hair and quick humor made her instantly recognizable, but beneath the carefully constructed image was a remarkably consistent philosophy: remember where you came from, work hard for what you want and bring others along when you succeed. Her songs will remain. So will the movies, Dollywood and the unmistakable image she created. But somewhere, every month, another child will still open a mailbox and find a book addressed especially to them. That may be the most fitting Dolly Parton legacy of all... 26 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

CURATED BY MEL FANCIFUL FINDS AND FAVORITES

O

By Melanie Carden

ver the many years that I’ve consulted on gift giving and have been writing gift guides, it’s the little details that make the most impact. This month, I’ve gathered some of my recent favorites – from fanciful finds to pragmatic and timeless pieces. These products span a wide range of categories, but each brings something so exceptionally distinct to this September collection. From hosting friends to dabbling in the emerging serpent trend, this month’s curation offers a glimpse into some of the shoulder season’s loveliest finds.

ZERO PROOF COMPLEXITY If you love the complex aromatics of gin, MaraBela Wild Verbena Sparkling Tea deserves your attention this season. This nonalcoholic sip is the type of bottle that is equally qualified for lowkey Sundays or to anchor an entire menu. It’s dry and bright, blending organic Sencha and Chun Mei green teas with White Peony tea, lemon verbena, and a touch of lavender. Info: marabelatea.com

TREND ALERT Among the emerging fall trends I’m seeing, serpents seem to be everywhere—from rings to knits and beyond. I love this 18k gold plated brass statement ring from en route jewelry; it’s wellbalanced and visually striking. The best part? It’s under $50, which makes it a fun and easy way to get a jump on the trend. Whereas some animal motifs demand careful curation, a serpent ring offers evergreen versatility. Info: enroutejewelry.com

EOS BLOOMS I’ve never been a big fan of roses, so I’ve mostly avoided the forever flower frenzy – until now. Introducing Eos Blooms. These creative floral folks preserve incredibly curated bouquets, including some breathtaking non-rose options. These bouquets last for years – and never need a drop water. Of course, they’re a perfect housewarming gift, but also an equally thoughtful addition to an assisted living apartment or dorm. Info: eosblooms.com

UNICORN DENIM I went to the Pacsun website because they carry the adidas Pink Japan Sneakers and I ended up with a cart full of swoony wide (but not too wide) leg jeans. The Zoe Low Rise Girlfriend Jeans are the Goldilocks of fall jeans: a low-to-mid rise of 8.5 inches and a 31.5” inseam that hit just at the heel. Most wide leg lengths are either abbreviated or exaggerated; this is perfect for a casual-chic vibe. Info: www.pacsun.com SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 27

BEE VISION GLAZE What is bee vision glaze, you might be wondering. It’s the invisible to the human eye glaze used on Bee Cups™ -- these sweet little watering stations for our pollinator friends. To us, the finishing glaze looks clear. To them, however, it mimics colors and patterns found in nature. These cups look blue and turquoise to the human eye, but bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds will see an attractive pink glow. Info: bee-cups.com

TIMELESS Social media has hastened the timeline for trends, which sometimes emerge and disappear within weeks. I’m all for peppering in a trendy element (looking at you, serpent ring!), but my wardrobe is built on a foundation of timelessness. It’s better for the environment and my wallet. You can’t go wrong with a Tory Burch watch, and nearly all of the brand’s pieces are perfect for every season. Info: www.toryburch.com

PETAL POWER Melissa Bernstein, the creative force and co-founder of Melissa & Doug Toys, has co-founded a new brand, Lifelines. The brand’s meditative FlowCrafts are designed to help users achieve flow state – that special groove where you’re calm yet intensely focused on the task at hand. This paper bouquet kit includes supplies to make five ethereally gorgeous paper flowers. Dab the petal edges in the dreamy paint to create lifelike detail and feel the stress melt away. Info: www.papersource.com

GET A GRIP You can engage your core with epic intensity, but you still might find yourself slowly slipping out of downward dog – and it’s frustrating. I’ve been testing different grip socks for over five years now, and Pointe Studio is among my top recommendations. They’re grippy – like Spider Man grippy – and hold up well, wash after wash. I always have a fresh pair in my yoga bag and love the endless colors and patterns. Info: pointestudio.com

MIRANDA APPROVED Of course, I recently rewatched The Devil Wears Prada, and there’s an infamous scene where Miranda Priestly delivers a scathing monologue about Andy’s Cerulean blue sweater. This gorgeous sweater, though marketed as royal blue, feels more Lapis to me, as I scroll through my mental index of the endless blue shades available for fibers these days. Miranda would approve of the Finisterre Anvon Crew Neck Knit, with its reverse-knit raglan seam and recycled wool fibers. Info: finisterre.comen-us

KEUM-BOO Camille Torres, founder and designer at Camille Torres Designs, recently introduced me to the ancient Korean technique of Keum-boo (koom-boo), which contrasts 24k gold with oxidized sterling silver. All of the pieces in her Imaginal Cell Collection are handcrafted in small batches, using recycled metals. These lightweight statement earrings feature the intricacy of Monarch wings, making a lovely gift for a recent grad, about to spread their wings. Info: camilletorresdesigns.com

MEILLEUR MOMENT Whether you’re packing a color-coded capsule or simply value versatile pieces, consider pairing this swoony Monet Lyocell Shirt from Meilleur Moment with the lapis hued Finisterre knit. This piece is my new travel favorite, replacing my white muslin waffle and chambray shirts – both worthy wardrobe workhorses in my travel stable. This breathable beauty offers such a fresh take on goes-with-everything versatility, and its hand-wash-only maintenance is easily managed on longer trips. Info: meilleur-moment.com

Acura is the luxury arm of Honda and is known as the first luxury auto marque to come out of Japan, beginning in 1981. Today, Acura’s lineup consists of gas-powered Integra sedans, as well as three different SUVs, including the flagship MDX, the smaller ADX and RDX. And they are developing a hybrid, two-motor RDX in the near future. I recently took the 2026 MDX SH-Advance AWD through its paces, driving it on city streets, highways and through the mountains, too. It’s an excellent SUV, with a collection of driving modes for many conditions. Use “Snow” when the weather goes bad, as it controls traction and slipping; try “Lift” for extra ground clearance when needed; or hook into “Sport” when you want tighter turns and torque, like on those mountain roads. The new version of the MDX, “America’s bestselling three-row luxury sedan of all time,” as Acura tells us, has some of the significant changes that were implemented into the 2025 version. The vehicles are now equipped with the company’s AcuraWatch 360, their proprietary driver’s safety system that seems almost futuristic, with front corner radars and a front-facing camera that monitors the traffic ahead. Acura pioneered the automatic emergency braking system in 2006, and most manufacturers soon followed; nowadays, the 2026 MDX has so many systems in place you’ll barely have to drive your own car! And for those of us who like to keep more control over our driving experience, each safety system can be controlled individually. Inside the cabin, the newest innovation is the 12.3-inch touchscreen with everything from radio and navigation to the controls for all those safety features, with an easyto-navigate platform. And for an absolute joy listening to the music you love to drive by, add on the Technology Platform as an extra, to have a Bang & Olufsen sound built in that will literally rock your world. Think 19 speakers, with four in the headliner, and 1,475 watts of perfect sound power. With its V6 engine that puts out 290 horsepower (the Type S version has a twinturbo V6 with 355 hp), the MDX is distinctly powerful enough to climb mountains, even when packed with gear and people. Three rows of seating comfortably seat six people (seven people fit for a short ride), with legroom reducing as you move toward the last row. The front seats are heated, as is the steering wheel, and every version of the MDX has a panoramic moon roof. The mileage rating is what you would expect from most SUVs that run on gasoline alone, 19 city/25 highway/21 combined on most of the models. Pricing ranges from $53,250 to $77,300. By Lillian Langtry

ith a career spanning luxury salons, international royalty, celebrity clients and major fashion houses, Marco Maranghello has spent decades shaping sophisticated beauty at the highest levels of style.

From red carpets and international runways to some of New York’s most exclusive salons, **Marco Maranghello** has built a career defined by artistry, elegance and an instinctive understanding of glamour.

© Ezequiel De l Rosa

Born in Argentina, Maranghello came to New York City with an early passion for beauty and a belief that personal style is as much about confidence as appearance. His career took an important turn under the mentorship of legendary hairstylist **Oribe Canales**, whose influence helped shape Maranghello’s polished approach to sophisticated, timeless beauty. Maranghello later held prominent positions within New York’s luxury beauty world, including at **John Barrett Salon at Bergdorf Goodman**, where his clientele ranged from leading social figures to international royalty. Among those whose hair he has styled are **Jennifer Lopez** and her sisters Leslie Ann and Lynda, as well as **Queen Silvia of Sweden, Princess Madeleine of Sweden** and **Queen Mary of Denmark**. His work has appeared in *Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, Town & Country* and *PAPER*. His fashion credits span **Chanel, Thom Browne, Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Marchesa, Armani, Malan Breton, Marc Bouwer** and **Cesar Galindo**. He has also appeared as a beauty expert on *The Martha Stewart Show* and *TODAY” © Vital Agibalow

One notable milestone came when Maranghello created Jennifer Lopez’s first hair extensions, a reflection of the technical skill and forward-thinking approach that have become hallmarks of his work. His expertise also includes wigs and extensions, allowing him to create transformations that remain polished, natural and highly individualized. Beyond fashion and beauty, Maranghello has used his talents to support others. He has donated hair pieces to chemotherapy patients and participated in charitable initiatives involving the arts, education and underserved communities. His film work has supported projects addressing child abuse, LGBTQ youth and minority communities, including involvement with *Draw With Me*, created in partnership with **The Trevor Project**. For Maranghello, beauty has never been only about trends. His work reflects a broader philosophy built over decades in the industry: style is most powerful when it enhances confidence, individuality and presence. That perspective now becomes part of House of Vanderbilt’s New York Fashion Week vision. IG @marcomaranghello FB marco.maranghello SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 31

LE HAUTE TREND REPORT HOME DÉCOR IS HEATING UP WITH THESE HAUTE INTERIOR TRENDS

A

By Jon Salas

s summer’s end comes near and Fall, a season of transition, awakens in us a spark of style recalibration, we begin to look for what’s new and trending. And while usually we focus on clothes, layers and accessories, little is said about home interiors. And we’re not talking about putting mums out by the doorway or breaking our pumpkin-spiced everything – there are big shifts in design for the home taking place and similar to fashion, home design also undergoes transformative interiors trends year after year. And while we may not necessarily be in the market for a new living room set, there are subtle details and incorporations we can consider that can help ensure our home is looking and feeling haute. GAMING IS MORE THAN RECREATION One of the hottest resurgences and topics that home designers can’t seem to stop talking about this year is the growing popularity of game tables. From Mahjong, the new ‘pickleball’ of 2026 to classics like chess, cards, backgammon and more, folks are spending more time bonding with friends and families and playing the classic games we once played on family vacations in decades past. While functional for an afternoon of fun and games, game tables are also a statement piece in their own right that with each use gain more meaning and emotional context, turning them into a center piece instead of a side stand. From West Elm and Pottery Barn to Crate and Barrel, game tables are trending and easy to find at just about any furniture retailer. If looking for a neutral, easy to style table regardless of your home’s décor style, CB2’s check white swirled resin game table is an easy bet that will seamlessly fit in any room or home. Its resin look segues into what’s another popular trend this year, gloss interiors.

© The Lacquer Company

GLOSS IS THE ‘GOSS’ From Arhaus to Anthropology, gloss-looking lacquered furniture is the hautest and latest macro trend in interiors. Gone are the days of minimalist all white salons. And if your walls are still neutral, the key is to have your furniture and décor pop with maximalist colors, tones and textures. An easy way to stand out is with bold colors in gloss finishes and no one quite gets it right as does Jonathan Adler. A king in pop culture furniture, Adler’s designs mix vibrant, glamourous shapes, tones with Hollywood Regency, and luxury chic aesthetics that bring a lighthearted whimsical feel to any interior. Adding gloss pieces to a home are also an easy way to inch out of comfort zones. It can be difficult to go from a muted aesthetic to the opposite extreme full of loud hues and prints, but gloss finishes are loud enough to command attention and depending on the shade can be discreet enough to slowly push the home forward to what’s in vogue. It’s a good beginner’s trend for those looking to make strides in actualizing their home and can easily be done by swapping out a credenza, coffee table or shelf. And since we’re on the topic of lacquer, an honorable mention to The Lacquer Company is due, who have made a name for themselves in crafting signature lacquer pieces. If you want to jump all in on the trend, consider looking at their tables and mirrors, especially in red, which will immediately bring Faena vibes to your home.

LIGHT IS ART Good lighting is no new concept and for years we’ve seen how interiorists work it into décor concepts. We’ve seen clever backlighting help accentuate certain pieces and spaces and we’ve seen how marquee light fixtures also take center stage. However, the trend that seems to continue to take on more emergence is lighting’s evolution from a functional necessity to collectible art. It’s no longer about how original or out-of-the-box the lamp shade looks or the materials and textures that make a lamp’s base. We’re now seeing how light reflects on walls is equal or superior in design factor and importance than the actual light itself. Pendant and floor lamps are pushing the boundary with bulb shapes and placements so users can customize how they show up when illuminated. La Caza Cali’s polynescence floor lamp is an example of how light can be a sculptural experience that merges design innovation, intelligence, and ambiance to elevate and fill any blank wall as soon as the sun sets. © La Caza Cali

© Thompson Ferrier

© Acqua di Parma

SCENT THAT CAN BE SEEN On the topic of light, the most traditional yet relevant accessory continues to be candles. While certainly they can help elevate any shelf or coffee table and add a spark of light – we’re seeing a return to classic room scenting via waxed perfumery. From Le Labo’s santal candle to Acqua di Parma’s ceramic candle sculptures, design is leaning into tradition and killing two birds with one stone – bringing both fragrance and design to spaces. Candles continue to be an easy way to lean into self-expression as they mirror the scents we wear and enjoy, while also add a touch of character based on their vase. Thompson Ferrier is a trending example of a subtle touch of design when it comes to candle art. From silver apples to glass buddha heads, elephants, gator sculptures and more – they’re an example of how something as small and simple as a candle can have a loud reverberation in a home’s interior design, reflecting the personality of those who dwell within. While we wait to see what the next Pantone color and other pop culture trends will shape home trends in the seasons ahead, there’s a lot of consensus in the design world lately that regardless of the trends, the overall direction of home design is currently centering around celebrating individualism and embracing spaces that feel personal. Whether these trends speak to you or not, the rule of thumb when curating your home is see it as an extension of you, and one that reflects your energy, your passions, and your story. Trends are a north star for what’s new and popular but what is always haute and style will be having your home reflect you because personality never goes out of style. VANDERBILT TAKES THE RUNWAY HOUSE OF VANDERBILT BRINGS FASHION TO GRAND CENTRAL

M

By Lillian Langtry

ore than a century after the Vanderbilt family helped shape Grand Central Terminal, the family name is returning to the landmark with a decidedly modern purpose. On September 15, during New York Fashion Week, Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin will transform Vanderbilt Hall into an international fashion presentation celebrating American heritage, global creativity and the evolving relationship between fashion and technology. The event marks the first fashion presentation from House of Vanderbilt and the New York Fashion Week debut of Vanderbilt & Seewald Global Studio, founded by Vanderbilt Costin and media entrepreneur Michaela Seewald. Timed to coincide with America’s 250th anniversary, the evening will connect one of New York’s most recognizable historic settings with designers representing a new generation of international talent. Latin fashion will play a prominent role, with Mario Lopez serving as host and Mexican designer Lorena Saravia among the featured names. Known for blending Mexican craftsmanship with contemporary luxury, Saravia will be joined by Stockholm-based designer Dustin Glickman of DSTN, recognized for his distinctive “dark cowboy” aesthetic, and Paris couturier Nabil Hayari of Hayari Paris. Their participation reflects the broader mission of Vanderbilt & Seewald Global Studio: helping designers expand into international markets while maintaining ownership and creative control. The venture combines investment, strategic guidance, media support, distribution and commerce technology designed to turn creative visibility into sustainable business growth. The runway itself will also showcase that technology. Plans call for AI-enabled commerce, livestream shopping and Click-To-Buy integration, allowing viewers beyond Vanderbilt Hall to engage directly with the collections. The platform is supported in part by the creative network and technology of SohoMuse, which Vanderbilt Costin co-founded.

For Vanderbilt Costin, the location carries personal significance. Vanderbilt Hall connects her family’s history with a vision focused firmly on the future. Rather than treating legacy as something preserved behind glass, House of Vanderbilt is using it as a foundation for new ideas, designers and opportunities. That contrast gives the presentation its particular New York character: historic architecture, international fashion and emerging technology meeting beneath one roof. Grand Central has always been a place defined by movement, bringing people together before sending them toward their next destination. For one evening during Fashion Week, that same spirit will extend to the runway. The result is both a homecoming and a beginning, placing the Vanderbilt name behind a new platform intended to give designers greater visibility, broader access and a direct connection with consumers around the world. DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE AT DUO HOTEL LISBON A HISTORIC AND MODERN MIX CLOSE TO THE CITY’S EXCITEMENT

A

By Stacey Zable

stay at the Duo Hotel Lisbon, Curio Collection by Hilton, beautifully blends many experiences as a home base while exploring Portugal’s capital city. Not only does it offer contemporary design with historic elements, it also effortless combines the warmth and hospitality of a Portuguese boutique property of only 75 rooms with the Hilton brand and level of service. Its location near the Tagus River and trendy Cais do Sodré district also add to the experience.

The property features two architectural styles among its guest rooms. The Dom Luis Building, accessible from the lobby, offers a modern feel with contemporary rooms. The refurbished historic Boavista building mixes “tradition and innovation”, with such touches as interesting artwork made from Portuguese tiles. In both, you will find nice-size guest rooms with modern amenities to enhance your stay like Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, safes, air conditioning, large flat-screen televisions, irons/ironing boards, kettles and teas, espresso machines, and bathroom touches that include magnifying mirrors, soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. Bathrobes and slippers are also available in Boavista building rooms and Junior Suites. Families will discover that Lisboa View Junior Suites, which sleep three with King-size bed and sofa bed, are a great choice. Family Connecting Rooms add another guest room and bathroom, allowing families of up to five the space they need. MEET UP IN THE COURTYARD Both sides of the property are connected by a large open courtyard filled with intimate groupings of seating set in a light dusting of sand floor. A tile wall of blue on one side fronts a water feature—offering an homage to the area that once was a beach before the land was extended to the river as part of city improvements. There are also tables for outdoor dining here for a quick drink or a meal from the excellent hotel restaurant, Novo Mundo. 38 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

DELICIOUS DINING Novo Mundo serves traditional Portuguese cuisine with what the restaurant calls a “modern twist”. The chef will also customize your meal based on your dietary needs and for us, created an absolutely delicious dinner of grilled shrimp, freerange chicken, salmon, and a dessert called Pineapple Carpaccio served with coconut ice cream. The intimate restaurant offers a lovely contemporary design. Novo Mundo is also the location for the daily breakfast buffet from 7 to 11 a.m. that is well worth the add-on. A selection of breads, fruits, cheeses, salads, yogurts, pastries, and juices are complimented by cooked-to-order hot options of eggs and omelets your way delivered to your table. You can also choose avocado toast, pancakes, and other options for an additional cost. Within the hotel lobby, Quiosque can provide a quick coffee, drink, or light snack. But if you have a sweet tooth, do not miss For the Voyage pastelaria for coffee, pastries, and sweets, including a selection of Lisboeta chocolates. Special offerings from the hotel include hands-on Portuguese tile making and specially prepared picnic baskets. Foodies will enjoy the 7 Paintings Dinner Show, which incorporates seven courses and interesting stories of artwork. For more on the property, visit hilton.com/en/hotels/lisboqq-duo-hotellisbon. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION When discovering a city, location is key and we loved that we could set off on foot to explore right from the front door of Duo Hotel Lisbon, Curio Collection by Hilton. However, be sure to pack great walking shoes for tackling the city’s well-known hills. Near the hotel is one of the city’s main food markets, the historic Mercado da Ribeira. Located within it is the Time Out Market, home to 26 restaurants, eight bars, and 12 shops. Grab a seat at the counter at Libertà Pasta Bar and choose your favorite fresh homemade pasta dish. Stroll along the nearby Tagus River promenade and stop at stalls for some shopping or depending on the time of day, listen to DJ music. Walk to Pink Street, or Rua Nova do Carvalho, which is literally painted pink and is pedestrian only for some fun photos. It’s also a hot spot at night with clubs and bars. Lisbon is also home to great shopping in Chiado, including Armazéns do Chiado with 50 shops and 15 restaurants. Hop on one of Lisbon’s iconic trams— including the famous Number 28 that provides a nice overview traveling through such neighborhoods as Alfama, Chiado, and Bairro Alto. Terreiro do Paço, the city’s largest square, offers more water vistas as well as views of the 360-foot Cristo Rei statue inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s famous statue and the 25 de Abril bridge—which will remind you of another bridge in a hilly city—San Francisco’s Golden Gate. FAMILY-FOCUSED FOUR-SEASON FUN PLAN A STAY AT MASSANUTTEN RESORT IN VIRGINIA’S SPECTACULAR SHENANDOAH VALLEY

T

By Stacey Zable

rade in your skyscraper views for panoramic mountain vistas at the 6,000-acre year-round Massanutten Resort in McGaheysville, Va. A recent family trip with my young adult children proved that the property is ideal for multigenerational travelers and family groups—from those with little kids to those with adult children. Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Massanutten’s roster of activities on and off site kept our family busy if we wanted from morning to night, but with the perfect amount of downtime to simply enjoy being together. A new hotel slated to open in October and a waterpark expansion to debut in 2027 will only add to the thrills.

The resort boasts an abundance of accommodation choices, from hotel rooms to multi-bedroom house-like condos. We chose the Regal Vistas community, which is the resort’s newest cottage style condos that feel more like a home and offer Blue Ridge Mountain views. Our two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo came with a full kitchen, a fireplace in the living room and another in the master bedroom, a whirlpool tub and separate shower in the master bathroom, a deck with gas grill, garage, and even a washer and dryer. More importantly there was plenty of room for all of us, including during relaxing movie and game nights. Guests here get exclusive access to Regal Vista’s outdoor pool and small fitness room. Plus, the resort also has an outdoor pool and two indoor pools and an expansive fitness and rec center onsite. Here guests will find fitness classes, plus indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and outdoor pickleball courts. There is ice skating in the winter. 40 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

WHAT’S NEW The popularity of the resort is evident in the additions that are slated to continue into 2027. Guests arriving this October and onward with young children can also opt to stay in the resort’s newest property, the 140-room ShenandoaH2O hotel featuring traditional guest rooms, as well as two- and three- bedroom suites tailored for families. It will add to the on-site dining offerings with Dockside, a casual restaurant and bar. The hotel is located next to the indoor/outdoor waterpark, where an indoor expansion is slated for early 2027. Another new attraction at the resort made its debut this summer, the alpine coaster “Mountain Mayhem” at the Family Adventure Park. You can cruise downhill along 2,156 feet with two full 360-degree spirals. The six-minute run is fully-customizable with those with a need for speed being able to travel up to 25 miles per hour and those who are along for the ride just to take in the Shenandoah Valley views able to adjust their speed to a more leisurely pace. (Yes, please!) The park also offers ziplining, a climbing wall, summer tubing, and a Kids’ Adventure Course. For more adult-friendly activities, Massanutten has two 18-hole golf courses and a driving range, which is where my husband took off to most mornings. Wine tasting, horseback riding, mountain biking, craft-making, and even comedy nights are more of the activities you can take while there. Winter brings the chance for skiing, snowboarding, and winter tubing. Our wonderful massages at the full-service spa added to the built-in relaxation of our locale. New to the spa is the MultiS.A.L.T. Booth, an enclosed dry salt therapy booth, and an Infrared Dry Sauna. Four restaurants and two coffee bars and a host of snack shops provide plenty of on-site casual dining choices. Outdoor dining at Base Camp is a top-pick for the mountain views, with live music offered on select nights adding to the low-key atmosphere of the resort.

EXPLORE THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY Beyond Massanutten Resort the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley unfolds. The scenic 105-mile Skyline Drive runs along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park. Enter the park along Skyline Drive at the Swift Run Gap Entrance near Elkton, only a 20-minute drive from the resort. Drive along Skyline Drive and stop at overlooks for vistas of the area’s beauty. If you like to hike, turn off at the Blackrock Summit Trailhead for a one-mile circular hike that offers views of the Shenandoah Valley and Massanutten Mountain. It is even part of the Appalachian Trail. For a very different stroll through something also created by nature, visit Luray Caverns in Luray. It is about a 35to 45- minute drive from the resort. It takes 90 minutes along paved walkways to explore this truly impressive 64-acre subterranean U.S. Natural Landmark that began forming some 400 million years ago. You’ll pass cathedralsized rooms with ceilings up to 10-stories high that feature stalactites, stalagmites, towering stone formations, clear pools, and the Great Stalacpipe Organ, which they say is the world’s largest musical instrument. MIRBEAU INN & SPA BEACON “LIFE. CLASSICALLY BALANCED.”

M

By Jeff & Stephanie Sylva

irbeau – a place of gracious hospitality, classic comforts, and total relaxation. And a place close to home. This was the goal of Linda and Gary Dower, founders and owners of Mirbeau Inn & Spas. And now the Dower family has expanded its Mirbeau vision to the Hudson Valley community of Beacon, NY – less than a two-hour drive from Manhattan and less if you take the Metro North train from Grand Central.

MONET INSPIRED The Mirbeau concept, loosely translated as “reflected beauty,” is inspired in part by the soft light, warm colors and introspective character found in the paintings of renowned French Impressionist, Claude Monet. The Monet motif is evident in each of the Mirbeau properties, and Beacon Mirbeau is no exception. Mirbeau Beacon is reminiscent of a Loire Valley country estate. The Mansion blends French-inspired residential elegance with the Gothic Revival grandeur of the historic Howland mansion built in 1859. The Mansion, which includes seven guest rooms and luxury suites, is meticulously decorated in a French country style highlighted by numerous Monet reproductions throughout. Each Mansion Suite is uniquely designed, as original rooms were intricately combined during renovations. A HISTORIC MANSION The Mansion also houses some exquisite common rooms. The Music Room, an addition constructed in 1872, showcases an impressive, hand-painted 1873 Johnson Pipe Organ. Adjoining the Music Room, The Library boasts all its original walnut and mahogany woodwork. An additional 65 luxury rooms are located in the Spa Chateau building, which houses Mirbeau’s outstanding 25,000-square foot Spa (the brand’s largest). The property’s Monet-inspired theme is further enhanced in its wonderfully designed Pond and Gardens fashioned after the artist’s home in Giverny, France. All Chateau and Mansion rooms and suites feature fireplaces and luxurious bathrooms with walk-in showers, French-style clawfoot soaking tubs, and double sinks. Rooms also feature the Mirbeau Estate Mattress, exclusively made for Mirbeau, with a gel-infused memory foam topper. Plush, custom sheets and terry towels from Italian-based Frette create a perfect finishing touch for the luxurious accommodations. Mirbeau Beacon is situated on 64 acres of the original 350-acre Howland Family Estate named Tioronda. In addition to the Monet Pond Gardens, the Resort includes hiking trails, waterfalls, ponds, and meadows, offering guests plenty of opportunity to enjoy quiet, reflective strolls in lush natural settings. 42 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

A COMPLETE SPA EXPERIENCE Whether it’s for rejuvenation or relaxation, the worldclass Spa Mirbeau will indulge your every wish. With 21 treatment rooms, Spa Mirbeau offers an extensive menu of massage, skin, facial, and hand & foot treatments. Guests can experience a traditional spa experience of Kurs – a centuries-old renewal ritual of exercise, proper nutrition and care of face and body. Treatments involve a soak in a mineral bath, an exfoliation, and full body massage. Prior to and following treatments, guests can enjoy Mirbeau’s luxurious Resting Area with cozy fireplace and soothing Meditation Pool, the tranquil Reflection Room, the bright Solarium, or the large outdoor Aqua Terrace with a soothing, oversized hot pool, cabanas, and bar. Women’s and Men’s locker rooms are finely appointed with eucalyptus-infused Steam Rooms and dry Saunas. A Yoga and Motion Studio offer a wide assortment of complimentary classes including yoga, Pilates, Barre, and strength and conditioning. A fullyequipped gym is also available. BALANCED CULINARY OFFERINGS Mirbeau’s French inspiration continues with its culinary offerings. The Bistro & Wine Bar, located in the historic mansion, offers cuisine typically found in French bistros and anchored in locally sourced products from the Hudson Valley. Diners need not fear a menu laden with unfulfilling spa cuisine. Nor is the chef ’s French-inspired gastronomy overly indulgent. Rather the fare is a perfect balance of richness and delicacy. Two perfect appetizer examples of this delicate balance are the Crispy Artichoke Hearts with Honeyed Labneh, Shaved Parmesan, Meyer Lemon Zest, and Chili Oil and the Chilled Crab and Tomato – chunks of sweet crab sit in a clear tomato consommé dotted with basil seeds. Two entrées also perfectly balanced between restraint and indulgent are the Wild Striped Bass with Blistered Cherry Tomato Raisins, Melted Spring Leeks, and Brown Butter Banyuls Broth, and the Honey-Glazed Duck Breast with Sweet Corn Silk, English Peas, Charred Spring Onion, Catskill Raw Honey, Puffed Farro, and Tarragon Jus. If you want a little decadence, there is always the award-winning Banana Cheesecake with Salted Caramel and Vanilla Bean Gelato. The guilt is worth it. Open daily in the historic mansion, The Bistro & Wine Bar’s main dining area and bar reflects a classically-styled bistro design in a sun-lit, all-glass casual space. Two other dining areas include the Sapphire Room and the Gold Room – both of which are more formal with dark wood hues, rich wall coverings and jewel tones. The outdoor Bistro Terrace overlooks the estate property with the Monet Gardens front and center – a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of one Mirbeau’s own wines. A special collaboration between the Mauritson and Mirbeau families has resulted in the Mirbeau Mélange Red Wine and Mirbeau Monet Rosé, both an excellent choice for casual sip or with dinner. In addition to dinner, breakfast, lunch, Sunday Brunch, and a Mid Day Nosh are also served. AREA ATTRACTIONS If the scenic hiking trails available on property, the complimentary fitness classes, and the gym are not enough activity for you, Mount Beacon is easily accessible across the street for those looking for further challenges. Renowned art destinations, including DIA Beacon and Storm King Art Center are nearby. Some great boutique shopping and dining in the charming City of Beacon are just a short drive - or ride on a complimentary Mirbeau bicycle. The historic Howland mansion was, for a good part of the 20th century, a wellness retreat and rehabilitation center, primarily for wealthy New Yorkers. After closing in 1999, the property sat vacant until the Mirbeau family had a vision that would continue its mission - providing guests the opportunity to experience “Life. Perfectly Balanced.” For more information on Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon visit www.beacon.mirbeau.com SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 43

FURYK HEADS TO PALM COAST FURYK & FRIENDS BRINGS CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF TO HAMMOCK BEACH

A

By Michael McKenzie

new chapter begins for Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS this October as the PGA TOUR Champions event moves to Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Palm Coast. With oceanfront golf, a strong charitable mission and Jim Furyk at the helm, the tournament is poised to make its mark on Florida’s Atlantic Coast.

A NEW COURSE FOR FURYK Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K is heading south, bringing one of the PGA TOUR Champions’ most recognizable events to Palm Coast, Florida. Beginning in 2026, the tournament will make its new home at Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa, where competition is scheduled for October 5 through 11. The move follows the tournament’s final year at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville in 2025 and opens a new chapter for an event that has quickly become known for combining world-class golf with philanthropy and entertainment. At the center of the new setting is Hammock Beach’s Ocean Course, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design celebrated for its dramatic location along Florida’s Atlantic shoreline. Six holes offer views of the ocean, creating a distinctly coastal backdrop that promises to give players and spectators a memorable tournament experience. For tournament host Jim Furyk, a former U.S. Open champion and one of the most respected figures in professional golf, the move offers an opportunity to build upon the event’s success while introducing it to a new community. Palm Coast’s resort setting also provides a natural fit for the tournament’s mix of competition, hospitality and family-oriented activities.

Since its debut in 2021, Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS has placed charitable giving at the heart of its mission. The tournament has generated more than $5 million for charities throughout North Florida, supporting organizations focused on education, health, military families and other community needs. That philanthropic focus is expected to remain an important part of the tournament as it settles into its new home. Beyond the ropes, the event has been designed to appeal to more than dedicated golf fans. Spectators can expect entertainment, food, music and opportunities for community engagement alongside tournament play. The combination helps create an atmosphere that feels as much like a destination event as a traditional golf tournament. Hammock Beach adds another dimension to that experience. With oceanfront scenery and resort amenities surrounding the course, the venue gives visitors an opportunity to make the tournament part of a larger Palm Coast getaway. For players, fans and sponsors, the 2026 edition represents both continuity and change: the same competitive spirit and charitable purpose, now set against one of Florida’s most striking golf landscapes. When the first tee shot is struck in October, Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS will begin its next chapter with the Atlantic Ocean as its backdrop—and Palm Coast as its new home. FALL INTO PUTNAM FARMS, FOLIAGE, FESTIVALS AND FALL FLAVORS

A

By Michael McKensie

s summer gives way to autumn, Putnam County comes alive with colorful landscapes, family farms, Hudson River views and a full calendar of music, food and cultural events—making September an ideal time for a quick getaway from New York City.

Just north of New York City, Putnam County offers one of the Hudson Valley’s easiest escapes into fall. September brings farm visits, scenic drives, outdoor adventures and a lively calendar of festivals and performances—all surrounded by the first brilliant colors of the season. Start with the county’s local farms, where the experience goes well beyond picking up fresh produce. Visitors can meet goats and Highland cows at Ridge Ranch Farm, shop for fresh-cut pork and chicken at Lobster Hill Farm, or satisfy a fall craving with freshly picked produce and the popular apple cider donuts at Salinger’s Orchard. When the leaves begin turning, one of the simplest ways to experience Putnam is a drive along Route 301 from Carmel to Cold Spring. Stops along the way can include the peaceful grounds of Chuang Yen Monastery, seasonal gardens at Stonecrop Gardens, and historic Boscobel House & Gardens. The Cold Spring waterfront provides another picture-perfect stop, with sweeping Hudson River scenery nearby. Those who would rather experience the season on foot can explore trails in Fahnestock State Park, Hudson Highlands State Park, Michael Ciaiola Conservation Area or Arden Point. For a view from above, the 80-foot Nimham Fire Tower rewards the climb with an expansive panorama of autumn color. Cyclists can also follow the Putnam County Trailway, part of the larger Empire State Trail system.

September’s event calendar offers plenty of reasons to stay awhile. The Boscobel Chamber Music Festival, September 3–10, celebrates its fifth season with four public programs overlooking the Hudson River. From September 10–13, Carmel hosts the Putnam County Feast of San Gennaro, featuring live music, a carnival and Italian favorites. The German American Social Club of Peekskill holds Oktoberfest September 12–13, while Putnam County Golf Course gets into the spirit with Oktoberfest celebrations September 18 and 25, pairing live entertainment with traditional fare and its popular barbecue. The month concludes with the Patterson Rotary Blues & BBQ Festival, September 19–20. Whether the goal is foliage, food, music or simply a little fresh air, September may be one of the best times of year to discover Putnam County. A STAY FILLED WITH ITALIAN WARMTH THE TRIBUNE HOTEL ROMA MAKES YOU FEEL RIGHT AT HOME

I

By Stacey Zable

taly is always a good idea and the one country that we find ourselves returning to again and again. This time we were heading to Rome after a Mediterranean cruise because we couldn’t resist a visit to one of our favorite cities in the world. Our hotel during this stay was The Tribune Hotel Roma, a JdV by Hyatt property. As soon as we walked in after our long drive from the Civitavecchia port, we were warmly welcomed by the person at the front desk and we knew we had made the right choice.

With only 52 rooms and suites, this boutique property in Rome’s Ludovisi neighborhood is all about high-touch service. Our room wasn’t quite ready due to our early morning arrival and our bags were quickly ushered into the luggage room. The front desk person suggested we walk around the neighborhood for a bit and pointed us in the direction of some nearby shopping areas. Following our stroll and once back at the hotel, our keys were ready and our bags had already been placed in our room. Each time we found ourselves by the front desk before leaving the hotel, we were asked by the person manning the desk if they could help with directions or anything else or if we needed them to call us a taxi. When we would return to the hotel from a day of sightseeing, we were equally warmly greeted and asked if there was anything they could help us with at that time. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION As New Yorkers, we love to explore a city by foot and Rome is no exception. The Tribune’s location proved perfect for doing just that and as such is one of its greatest features. It is close to the famed Via Veneto, which was once a place for celebrities to frequent in the 1950s and 1960s and was featured in Federico Fellini’s film La Dolce Vita. Today, the street is filled with restaurants and sidewalk cafes as well as other hotels. 50 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

For exploring some of Rome’s most iconic sites, The Tribune is also walking distance to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. The ancient Aurelian Walls are right outside its doors. In addition, the hotel is steps from the lovely gardens and attractions of the Villa Borghese. (See sidebar for more on what to see and do in Rome.) CONTEMPORARY DESIGN The hotel boasts a contemporary design with purple and yellow as the main colors to be found in the small lobby, which offered a number of comfortable small seating groupings as well as eclectic accent pieces. If walking the streets of Rome wasn’t enough exercise for you, the hotel also has a fitness center for guests’ use. Our guest room used the same color scheme as the lobby plus herringbone grey wood floors creating a clean contemporary space. In-room amenities included Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee machine, a 42-inch HD Smart TV, and safe. All guest rooms and suites also feature King beds. Some, in addition, have a couch that can be made up into a twin bed. Room service is also available. TIME TO MANGIA The hotel’s large breakfast buffet is held on the lowerlevel Lounge, also boasting a contemporary design. As you would expect from any Italian meal, the choices seemed to go on forever with fresh fruit, cakes, pastries, juices, pancakes, waffles, and Italian coffee. In keeping with the standout in service, the front desk clerk upon hearing that our early morning flight home would have us missing breakfast on our last day, ordered us to-go breakfast boxes to take with us to the airport. The packed boxes were ready and waiting for us as we checked out. For more on-site dining, don’t miss a chance to head to the rooftop seventh floor Terrazza Borghese restaurant and Bubbles Bar. The alfresco venue with a view is a good spot to enjoy a nice selection of Roman pastas, main courses, or desserts or to toast each other on experiencing your own version of La Dolce Vita

ROME AT YOUR DOORSTEP Spend your days exploring all of Rome’s glorious sites with so many in close proximity to The Tribune Hotel Roma. The nearby Villa Borghese is home to 200 acres of beauty including gardens, trees, fountains, Renaissance villas, and the Borghese Gallery and its impressive collection of works by such greats as Bernini, Caravaggio, Raphael, and Titian. Beyond the neighborhood, dedicate some time to the iconic Colosseum and the Pantheon and the always impressive Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica. Slow things down a bit with a gelato and people-watching at Piazza Navona.

WOVEN INTO ROME

THE STORY OF SINGER PALACE HOTEL ROMA

T

By Jenna Guarneri

here are hotels that offer you a comfortable bed and a safe retreat during your travels, and then there are those that elevate that into a level of pure sentiment, making you feel as though you have stepped into an integral part of a place’s history. At Singer Palace Hotel Roma, I found myself in the latter.

Located right in the heart of Rome, just a stone’s throw away from iconic sites like the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Venezia, Singer Palace is perfectly positioned for experiencing the Eternal City. As soon as I stepped inside, what captured my attention first were the hotel’s interiors. Rich jewel tones, marble finishes, brass accents, and plush velvet furnishings gave the palace a lively character—bold yet refined, striking a beautiful balance between historic grandeur and contemporary grace. More than its address, the hotel’s appeal lies in the fact that it is part of the story of Rome, housed in a 1930s building that once served as the Italian headquarters of a world-renowned sewing machine company. The moment I learned this, I began noticing the details all around me differently. To me, the Singer sewing machines displayed throughout the Palace were a metaphor for its emphasis on craftsmanship and quality. Immediately, I got the sense that the hotel held on to its rich past with passion and loyalty, integrating it into Rome’s present and future in the most delicate way. A PALACE WITH A STORY TO TELL The Singer name first became associated with innovation and craftsmanship through the sewing machines that made it a household name all around the world. In Rome, that legacy found a home in Singer Palace, built in 1930 as the Singer company’s Italian base. Today, the building has been transformed into a boutique hotel, but traces of its former life remain. Singer sewing machines form part of the interior design, offering a subtle reminder of the energy of creativity and industry that once flowed through their halls. The architecture itself is equally fascinating. Designed by architect Mario Loreti, the building’s original character is ushered into the present time through details that blend the classic and the modern. Vibrant blocks of color shine against antique elements like hardwood and patterned floors. What caught my attention early in my stay was the hotel’s suspended staircase, with self-supporting Arabescato Corchia marble steps that define what refined luxury truly is. Walking through Singer Palace, I kept thinking about the idea of transformation, and how it is necessary for longevity. A building that was created for an industrial company has been refreshed to become a sanctuary for those seeking out the Roman experience. It has survived for this long due to the way it has adapted to the times, yet its identity remains intact. The hotel does not attempt to erase its history—instead, it allows the old and the new to sustain its story. 52 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

THE ART OF FEELING AT HOME With 29 rooms and suites, Singer Palace has the intimacy of a boutique residence rather than the scale of a grand city hotel. Room interiors reflect contemporary Italian design: elegant furnishings, marble bathrooms, velvet seating, and carefully curated art and objects. As a traveler, I appreciate it when accommodations have a residential quality to their spaces. It makes me feel as though my needs as a guest were deeply considered, and it makes not just the hotel but the whole city feel like home. That initial reaction felt even more nuanced after I learned that the Singer Palace is a family-managed hotel. My stay gave me the opportunity to meet one of the owners, Rosa Visocchi. Her family has spent generations in hospitality, and their expertise reflects in every little detail—from the way the rooms are arranged to the kind and accommodating demeanor of the hotel staff. Alongside Marco and Michela, Rosa represents the third generation managing the property. ROME, FROM ABOVE After spending hours walking to and from tourist spots, food- and cafe-crawling, and sightseeing, I would wind up in the higher floors of the Palace. Le Terrazze, the rooftop restaurant of the Singer Palace, easily became one of my favorite places not only in Rome but in all of Italy. With elegant outdoor seating and decor that mirrored the lush greenery that framed it, the restaurant offers sweeping views across Rome’s rooftops and lively streets below. Breakfast quickly became one of my favorite rituals, with an abundant spread of fresh fruit, cheeses, cured meats and pastries. For dinner, I enjoyed both Roman classics and seasonal Mediterranean flavors, from ricotta and spinach ravioli and Amalfi lemon risotto to timeless Italian staples like carbonara and cacio e pepe. The food at Le Terrazze certainly made it easier to slow down and enjoy Rome even more—I lingered over the mesmerizing view as I savored every flavor on my plate. In the late evenings, there was nothing I looked forward to more than spending time at Jim’s Rooftop Cocktail Bar. I enjoyed my cocktails with live music, taking in the view of the illuminated domes and buildings across the skyline. I was especially intrigued to learn about the partnership between Jim’s Bar and Borsalino, the historic Italian hatmaker. Interestingly, Singer sewing machines were also used at Borsalino’s factory in Alessandria to create their now world-renowned hats. As Singer Palace Hotel Roma’s CEO Michela Mola Visocchi puts it, “Some collaborations stem from a strategy, while others simply seem destined to come together.” Within a 24-month project, Borsalino has designed the rooftop bar’s spaces, highlighting its Italian heritage through carefully considered design that’s set against the backdrop of Via del Corso and Quirinal Hill. A NEW CHAPTER FOR AN OLD ROME Before I left, I found myself taking in again the elements that I was first attracted to here—the Art Deco-inspired details that made the Palace so quintessentially Roman. But the Singer Palace was memorable not only for its vibrant, thoughtfully designed interiors, the comfort and luxury of its rooms, and the quality of its food and beverage offerings, but also for something deeper. It stood out because it was big enough—not in size but in emotional capacity—to hold both its past and its present together. I feel the same about the city of Rome, in general. Rome has this magical capacity to preserve and protect its ancient, world-celebrated history, all while moving through the cultures of the present day. As a traveler, and as a person, I feel inspired by this. Because of the hotel and the very city it belongs to, I felt a calling to embrace my abundance so that my history and present story can coexist. It made perfect sense why the hotel felt so much like home—the Visocchi family’s care for the Singer Palace across generations is something you feel in every corner of the place. I left Rome carrying not only souvenirs and memories, but a whole new outlook on life. SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 53

CALIFORNIA’S TANTALIZING TERRANEA RESORT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. TERRANEA FALCONS.

M

By Ruth J. Katz

Wait, what!? Don’t you mean the Atlanta Falcons? Aren’t we talking about football here? No, we are talking about the amazing, game-stealing, heart-winning, and breath-catching falcons (with real feathers) who are the avian kingpins of the stunning Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Barely 30 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles, Terranea is a 30-minute drive, give or take, from metropolitan mayhem, and once you are there, you will feel as if you are a world away from urban headaches. Situated above coastal bluffs with sweeping, heart-stopping vistas of the Pacific Ocean, the resort is the only luxury destination resort on the Los Angeles coast.

Awash with natural beauty, the Mediterraneaninspired property offers up a sophisticated retreat, with impeccable service, in a relaxed setting, punctuated by the panoramic seascape…and that ocean-side perch provides a unique aspect to this property, delivering on-premises activities that include kayaking, paddleboarding, and tide-pooling, all a stone’s throw from your guest room. There are also bucolic nature paths surrounding the main property footprint, with names like Flowerfield Trail and Bluff Top Trail. Long before Terranea was established, the resort’s pristine, pastoral setting on the Palos Verdes Peninsula served as backdrop to a rich and diverse natural habitat. Once a part of the Channel Islands, the peninsula shifted slowly over millions of years and fused to the mainland coast of California. As a result, it is now home to a unique collection of rocks and plant species. This scene-stealing, Kodak-worthy panorama has attracted Hollywood film crews since the 1950s, when Lloyd Bridges (in case Lloyd is not in your memory bank, he’s the father to Beau and Jeff) starred in the popular TV adventure series Sea Hunt. At the time, the land was also home to Marineland of the Pacific, a seaside animal theme park. FOR THE BIRDS And that brings us to the period when those Terranea falcons entered the picture. Marineland seemed like a natural hunting ground and magnet for local seagulls and as a result, the gulls were pretty fearless, swooping down on diners’ picnic fare and flying away with half a sandwich! Rogue gulls were definitely accustomed to humans and were skillful at grabbing easy nourishment, eager to join the party. So, with a two-fold purpose—gull-, pigeon-, and crow-abatement by serious raptors and rodent control supplied by barn owls—enter the formidable Joe Roy III. He is The Man in charge when it comes to those Terranea falcons; Roy is passionately committed to his avian flock and is remarkably knowledgeable on all related topics--and he will mesmerize you with his abilities as a “bird-whisperer.”

54 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

Every morning Roy gives an informal talk with a feathered raptor friend, outside the heart of the resort, adjacent to the Sea Beans coffee café and the shop-till-you-drop boutiques Marea and Pointe Discovery. Definitely plan on this activity one day, to experience him and whichever feathery buddy he brings to the talk. You may get to meet Owlbert, a Eurasian Eagle Owl; Tomahawk, a Harris Hawk; or Soroush, a Gyr Falcon; in total, Joe is guardian to five falcons, two hawks, one owl, and some other nonpredatory parrots and pigeons. They are fascinating, and I guarantee you will come away with a plethora of knowledge about falcons and their extraordinary abilities. Did you know: • The US Air Force studied the peregrine falcon, to determine the physics of flight that enable these birds to fly with minimal drag, despite significant velocity, so that Air Force engineers could apply that science to the design of their jets, emulating the aerodynamics of the falcon? (And for the record, falcons have been clocked flying some 240 miles per hour!) •

•

The life expectancy of these breeds is the inverse of that of dogs, in that, with canines, the larger the breed, the shorter the life. With these birds, the bigger they are, the longer they live. But, in wild populations, Roy tells us, the mortality rate is very high, approaching 70% in the first year. Owls have phenomenal hearing; it’s been said that they can hear the heartbeat of a mouse!

As fascinating and educational as the falconry experience is with Roy, I found that most of Terranea’s activities (for kids of all agse, including me), are all five-star and better! There is a plethora of fun activities—for families, friends, and solo travelers. MORE FUN THINGS TO DO When scheduling our days and activities, we were quite torn as to what to select, among the many enticingsounding choices (and lounging by the pool was always a tempting activity). On day two, we opted for mandalapainting, basically, rock-painting, embracing the circle of life. It proved to be another winner, and so much fun. Guided by an expert and spiritual activity leader, we created stunning stones, and all our completed designs were charming and different. This was a wonderful activity, conducted outdoors, overlooking the bluffs and ocean. Another artistic endeavor was making personalized resincoated charcuterie boards. The gifted and talented teachers instructed us patiently on how to decorate the supplied teak boards (with the resort’s logo already on them), and when we were done, we were all shocked to see how different and striking all our boards were. A nighttime pastime was star-gazing. I fully expected to be standing outside with binoculars and looking at the moon. Oh, no. Terranea practically brought in the Hubble Telescope for us, along with an astronomer who could likely sub on the lecture circuit for Neil deGrasse Tyson. We all learned so much and also got to espy Jupiter and her moons—and it was truly thrilling. Our nighttime starwatching “pasture” was on a bluff, and it was a perfect setting. Our evening was punctuated by the goodies the kitchen set up for us—including jumbo, house-made marshmallows, so we could make our own s’mores to accompany hot cocoa. A SALUBRIOUS SPA AFTERNOON The recently renovated (to the tune of $4.5 million) 50,000-square-foot spa is everything a wellness sanctuary should be…and then some. The “then some” includes the most stunning terraces overlooking the sea, with vistas of Catalina Island, and including a private veranda for women only. The spa facilities are breezy, open, and refreshing, and include 25 treatment rooms, and a spa pool and gardens. There is also a yoga and movement studio, adjacent to the spa pool. I was completely blissed out with a double-header spa afternoon—a reflexology treatment and a very deep tissue massage. But if that is not your jam, the spa menu incorporates countless, seductive choices, from a Citrus Glow Facial, a Sea Mineral Balance Scrub, a Meditative Sound Bath, to the Crimson Revival: A Holistic Sauna. You will not want for an indulgent, sybaritic, and indolent way to spend an afternoon here.

LET’S EAT With eight restaurants on the property, your biggest dining dilemma will be where to eat! This “problem,” while at the spa, is easily solved by sticking with Solviva, the spa café. I enjoyed a tasty, nutritious salad here, casually attired in my spa robe and flip-flops. Fresh, organic, and locally-sourced ingredients are the bedrock for delicious salads and sandwiches. We thoroughly enjoyed our toothsome meal at Mar’sel, the resort’s signature restaurant, serving up a modern twist on California cuisine. You will be bowled over by the breadbasket alone, with about a half dozen interesting-looking and tasty rolls, breads, and crackers. Accompanying that cornucopian breadbasket are butters, honey, spreads, and olive oil. If it is Asian-inspired cuisine you hanker for, you’ll be totally satisfied at Bashi, where the panAsian menu includes the Sizzling Shaking Beef Garlic Noodles and sushi. The flavors are abundant, the presentation dramatic, and the atmosphere, easy-going. If you are fortunate enough to be here on a weekend, trot on over to Catalina Kitchen, the gustatory heartbeat of the resort; where, on both Saturdays and Sundays, there are different brunch menus or sumptuous buffets, which rival the never-ending fare served up on a cruise ship. Dine alfresco (remember, thanks to Joe Roy, Tomahawk, and their feathered friends, you don’t have to worry about a seagull filching your pancakes), and enjoy the breezes, the bounty, and the buffet. I could easily have spent a few additional days here, as there was so much more to do, see, and savor. It is certainly worth a cross-country flight to luxuriate in the resort’s splendor, in such a calming and cossetting atmosphere. And a word of advice for savvy travelers: If business brings you to Los Angeles, then tack on a few extra days of personal time, for unwinding in this thoroughly blissful environment. THE MINDIE METHOD DATING DILEMMA

sychotherapist, wellness coach, author, and speaker Mindie Barnett answers your questions about life, navigating these stressful and uncertain times, and steering you down a more straight forward path. We welcome your questions and invite you to contact Mindie at: mindiesmusings1@gmail.com Mindie is available for in-person and virtual psychotherapy sessions via her Executive Health by Mindie Barnett Psychotherapy practice. Her expertise is in interpersonal relationships, overcoming depression, coping with anxiety and avoiding and overcoming burnout among many other wellness areas. Life coaching and career coaching are also areas she excels in. For more information or to schedule a session visit mbexecutivehealth.com Dear Mindie, I need some advice for a good friend. She’s a lovely, successful young lady who is really eager to date and settle down but is having a hard time meeting The One. She has tried everything — the dating apps, going to bars etc. but nothing works. She has never had a boyfriend or really dated much but wants to have kids and every year that passes makes that less likely as she is getting older. It’s hard to sit back and watch. What should she do? She has tried everything. Sincerely, There’s Noone in New York Dear There’s Noone in New York, Dating is hard! Dating in the digital age is even more grueling than dating IRL. With so many options and easy access to new connections, people tend to get overly selective and put too much emphasis on superficial aspects of a person, rather than what’s inside their soul. I would recommend that your friend start getting curious and approach the experience as one she may learn from rather than viewing it as a chore. When on a date or out on the town, she should keep her head and heart open to new people, even if they may not be her ideal mate from the get-go. She should look to try new restaurants, explore new neighborhoods and participate in new activities which may seem interesting to her. I would even recommend, if she has the means, to consider going on a retreat of some sort or partake in a trip or experience to a place she thoroughly enjoys where she may be in a position to meet likeminded people – potentially a partner – and enjoy herself regardless. Regarding her desire for children, that’s tricky as time is definitely a factor and fertility treatments which can prolong a woman’s ability to have a baby are costly and, therefore, not always feasible. She needs to look into herself and decide how important motherhood is to her. If it’s a non-negotiable, then she should consider having a baby without a partner. There are many ways in which to achieve this and many women (and men!) are opting to take matters into their own hands in today’s day and age and conceive without having a partner to share the journey with. When the right person comes along, they’ll be happy to co-parent and share in the rearing of raising a child.

In a nutshell, your friend needs to make decisions for herself based on the information she has in front of her – today. She will feel less anxious and more in control of her life and, hopefully, feel some peace and, then, eventually love! Wishing you and your friend love and light, Mindie xo

orthwell Health’s eighth annual Summer Hamptons Evening brought more than 300 supporters together in Water Mill, raising over $650,000 for the Katz Institute for Women’s Health and advancing specialized care for women at every stage of life.

Northwell Health’s Summer Hamptons Evening returned to Water Mill on August 8, raising more than $650,000 in support of the Katz Institute for Women’s Health and the communities served by Northwell. Now in its eighth year, the event has generated nearly $7 million since its inception.

More than 300 guests gathered at the residence of Victoria Moran-Furman, who co-hosted the evening with Iris and Saul Katz, longtime benefactors of the Katz Institute, Eric Moran and celebrity event planner Larry Scott of Lawrence Scott Events. Rosanna Scotto, co-host of Fox 5’s, served as emcee. The evening highlighted Northwell’s ongoing commitment to advancing individualized care for women. The Katz Institute for Women’s Health has developed a network of more than 1,100 specialists dedicated to addressing women’s health needs across every stage of life. Stephanie Trentacoste McNally, MD, medical director of the Katz Institute and system director of menopause and midlife health, spoke about Northwell’s growing investment in specialized centers focused on menopause and midlife care. The new model brings experts from multiple disciplines together in one location, allowing patients to receive more coordinated and comprehensive treatment. The first center opened in Stony Brook in March, with additional locations planned across the Northwell system. Stacey E. Rosen, MD, executive director of the Katz Institute and senior vice president for women’s health at Northwell, emphasized the importance of philanthropy in expanding access to this level of care. © Rosanna Scotto pc PMC Jared Siskin

“The generosity of our donors who believe in our mission fuels our ability to continually elevate this care,” Rosen said, noting that the goal is to help women across Northwell’s communities live longer, healthier lives. Rosen has also served as volunteer president of the American Heart Association, where her work has focused on improving women’s heart and brain health, reducing research gaps and encouraging preventive care throughout a woman’s lifetime. The Summer Hamptons Evening was supported by an extensive group of sponsors, including Victoria Moran-Furman, Iris and Saul Katz, Eric Moran, Lawrence Scott Events, Michael Fisch, and Iris and Michael Smith, along with numerous other philanthropic supporters. With another successful evening in the Hamptons, Northwell continues to pair community generosity with a broader mission: transforming women’s health care through specialized expertise, coordinated treatment and expanded access. THE BEST WINES FOR FALL WHAT TO DRINK AS THE TEMPERATURE LOWERS By Jenny Peters

A

s we roll through those still-hot days of September towards the Autumnal Equinox on 9/22, you might find it difficult to choose the right wines to drink. Should you stick with sipping a great Rosé or Chardonnay with brunch, while sitting in a sunny sidewalk café? Or perhaps begin a shift to red wines with more heft, to match the seasonal Fall dishes that begin to creep onto menus across the city? We’ve got some ideas to help ease you through the transition from still warm days into the crispness (and sometimes downright chilly) of the coming season’s evenings, with a lean-in to wines made here in the United States. PERFECT ROSÉ FOR SUMMER’S END Let’s start with that Rosé and hold onto Summer for a bit longer, as September comes in like a hot-breathed lion. For that we’ll head to France’s Languedoc, where Mediterranean breezes blow and Gérard Bertrand produces some of the best Rosé on the planet. He’s happy to take you on a still or bubbly adventure with his Coté des Roses brand. His Coté des Roses Rosé is light and crisp, a still-wine blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault that makes a light pink color and offers the taste of delicious summer fruits. Meanwhile, his Esprit de Coté des Roses pink sparkling wine uses Pinot Noir, Grenache Noir and Chardonnay to create a beautifully balanced, crisp bubbly that leans into plush berry flavors. Both retail for under $25 and will make any hot days (and spicy foods) seem suddenly cooler.

TRANSITION INTO FALL WITH PINOT NOIR Great Pinot Noir is a wonderful thing, a red wine that’s not too heavy on your palate, but with backbone enough to stand up to the squash, pumpkin, pears and apples that herald the coming of Fall. The Willamette Valley in Oregon is justifiably famous for the Pinot Noir made there, many in the Burgundy style of France. Which is why when you taste Résonance wines, you’ll discover a distinct French influence, as the owners are Maison Louis Jadot. Their top-rated single vineyard Résonance Vineyard Pinot Noirs are an impressive group, with stellar years like 2022 and 2023 tasting of red berries and chocolate, with soft tannins on the finish. They’re perfect for a special Fall dinner, selling for $75 per bottle. The Sonoma Valley in Northen California is known for its Pinots, too, with special bottles coming from Buena Vista Winery since it was founded in 1857. Now owned by John-Charles Boisset, the famed French vintner, this winery produces a number of top Pinots. Try our favorite, the 2023 Otelia’s Selection Pinot Noir and you’ll swoon at the flavors of strawberry, blueberry and spices ending in a deep tannic finish ($58).

64 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

Further south, California’s Sta. Rita Hills AVA is the home of Sea Smoke, whose Pinots are considered some of the Golden State’s best. These Central California wines are limited, but you can find them at high-end shops across NYC; go for the biodynamically produced estate vineyard wines known as “Ten” and “Southing.” They retail for about $100 each and each one of these distinctly different Pinots meld flavors of berries, hazelnuts and savory spices into unforgettable wines. For a less pricey yet still distinct and incredibly delicious Sea Smoke wine, opt for the Botella Pinot Noir at $55.

NOVEMBER’S THE TIME FOR THE BIG TASTES OF CABERNET SAUVIGNON AND ZINFANDEL Every New Yorker knows what happens in November, when it is still technically the Fall, but those cold winds start blowing down the city streets, reminding us that Winter is coming on December 21. That’s exactly when it is time to bring out those big tastes of dense red wines like Cabernet Sauvignons and Zinfandel, designed to pair with hearty stews, big cuts of steak and other comfort foods we all need to face the chill. I’m a tremendous fan of the Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District AVA, where a thin strip of growing area (3 miles long, 1 mile wide) consistently turns out some of the world’s greatest Cabernets. In the USA, an AVA is a governmental “appellation of origin,” a wine area that is unique in every way (climate, geology, soils, physical features, elevation) in order to receive the designation. The fact that the Stags Leap District is so small and has a terroir that is so unique is what makes this a spectacular spot for growing Cabernet Sauvignon grapes a place to remember. Perhaps the bestknown winery here is Shafer Vineyards, so try their 2023 One Point Five Cabernet ($115) or the 2023 TD-9 Cabernet that is a gorgeous blend of Cab, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot ($85). Either one will rock your world if you love Cabernet.

© Haley Warnock

We love Baldacci Family Vineyards in the SLD too, especially when opening their organically produced 2022 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon ($125) that melds flavors of chocolate and plummy red fruits into a heady mix with a solid tannic finish. And don’t miss the 2022 Cliff Lede Vineyards Poetry ($375) if your budget allows, as this is a Cabernet that makes Napa proud, with tastes of currant and fig, with a mineral underpinning and a long and strong tannic finish. Over in Napa’s famed Rutherford AVA, Cabernet is king. And no winery proves that more consistently than Sequoia Grove, where sustainable green farming makes for incredible red wines. Try the classic 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($55) for a deep, dark quaff of plummy intensity, or splurge on the 2022 Rutherford Bench Reserve Cabernet ($90) that showcases the place that made Napa a household name worldwide.

© Haley Warnock

Rounding out this Fall plan for having fantastic wines on hand from warm September days to cool November nights is the 2023 Limerick Lane 1910 Block Zinfandel ($70), made from vines still growing grapes after more than 100 years. Inhale the nose of spice and blackberry, then let the cherry and rhubarb tastes roll off your tongue. Finally, as the season really begins to move into the cold months of Winter, feel this wine’s warm, smooth tannins coast down your throat to warm your innards. It’s a decadent way to face the chilly days to come. SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 65

SKIRT STEAK A MEAT LOVER’S MIDTOWN OASIS

I

By Anne Raso

f you want amazing prime or wagyu skirt steak with handmade Italian bread topped with sesame seeds, unlimited fries and a huge wild and classic greens salad with a heavenly house dressing for only $48, Skirt Steak in the Kimpton Eventi Hotel is the place to come.

Menu is simple but they like it that way so they can excel at the basic steak price ride along with five or six sides that vary each night (ranging from Mexican Street Corn to Truffle Fries to Heirloom Tomato Salad) and one appetizer (which was Spicy Deviled Eggs the night I dined there). The staff is ultra helpful, your food arrives fairly quickly and if you love desserts, there adorable large wood cart that gets whirled around the unpainted wood framed dining room with mega high ceilings is the stuff that dreams are made of! I am already wondering if anyone has tried to hijack the dessert cart yet--it is kept by the front window and people walk by to check out the desserts for brunch (which is priced at only $40) or for dinner! As a New Yorker, if I saw the cart on the subway one night, I would not be surprised, LOL! For $20 extra, Skirt Steak’s guests can upgrade to wagyu skirt steak and the investment is well worth it even the standard cut is tender and juicy. My guest and I particularly enjoyed the tender, juicy wagyu especially since the portion size is very generous—and we topped our meat with the aforrementi0ned delightful EVOO tossed Heirloom Tomato Salad! In a nutshell, Skirt Steak has built its reputation around a refreshingly simple concept: one expertly prepared cut of prime skirt steak served as a prix fixe meal. Rather than offering an extensive steakhouse menu, the restaurant focuses on perfecting a single signature entrée. Dinner begins with a crisp field greens and butter lettuce salad tossed in a light sherry vinaigrette simply referred to as the House Dressing, followed by a generous serving of prime skirt steak cooked to your preferred temperature. The steak is accompanied by Peppercorn Béarnaise Sauce or the House Steak Sauce and the restaurant’s famous endless Hand-Cut Fries, which are served in heated copper bowls in heaping porti0ons and restocked throughout your meal. Diners looking for an even more indulgent experience can upgrade to a premium wagyu steak for an additional charge. FRESH INGREDIENTS ARE KEY Although the menu is intentionally concise, Skirt Steak rounds out the meal with a rotating selection of seasonal side dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. These offerings change regularly depending on what is available, giving returning guests something new to enjoy alongside the restaurant’s signature steak. The most over the top side in terms of richness during my own dinner was the Cheesy Potatoes, topped with an abundance of Crème fraiche, Gruyere and Fontina! The meal concludes with one of the restaurant’s most popular features: a rolling dessert trolley filled with house-made cakes, pies, and seasonal tarts. Instead of reading a dessert menu, guests can view each creation before making their selection, adding a touch of classic steakhouse theater to the experience. During my dessert experience, I have to say that the Paris Brest was my favorite thanks to the classic puff pastry and hazelnut cream—with the gorgeous gold leaf added on top for a bit of posh charm! I would recommend anything on the cart, though—there are the classic high Chocolate Layer Cake and Strawberry Cheesecake that every steak lover knows and a sophisticated Key Lime Pie that packs a little extra tartness (perfect for people who don’t like very sweet desserts)! 66 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

The beverage program is designed to complement the straightforward menu without overwhelming it. Signature cocktails include the refreshing Blackberry Spritz, a Spiced Margarita, a classic Negroni, the house signature drink Skirt Manhattan, a rich Key Lime Pie Martini, and a traditional Espresso Martini. Each cocktail is crafted with premium spirits and balanced flavors that pair well with grilled beef and hearty sides. Wine lovers will find a thoughtfully curated selection available by the glass, including Prosecco, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Rosé, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Barolo. Beer drinkers can choose from several draft selections, including Brooklyn Lager, Lagunitas IPA, Allagash White, Sloop Juice Bomb IPA, Smuttynose Old Brown Dog, and several local craft brews. For those avoiding alcohol, Athletic Run Wild IPA offers a flavorful nonalcoholic beer option. MOCKTAIL MANIA Skirt Steak also offers sophisticated alcohol-free beverages rather than a lengthy mocktail menu. Its signature nonalcoholic Shrub Sodas feature combinations such as Blackberry & Sage and Strawberry & Mint, providing bright, complex flavors that stand up well to the richness of the steak. These refreshing drinks make excellent alternatives for guests who want something more distinctive than a standard soft drink. The restaurant’s décor strikes a balance between modern steakhouse style and rustic warmth thanks to quirky odds and ends like a birdhouse hanging on a back wall and a wood trimmed blackboard stating the sides for the evening. Raw lumber hammered together like the frame of a barn, other exposed materials, warm ambient lighting, copper accents, and comfortable seating create an inviting dining room that feels lively without becoming overly formal. The open, energetic atmosphere encourages conversation and gives the restaurant the feel of a neighborhood gathering place, while the bar area offers the same welcoming aesthetic for guests stopping in for drinks or a casual meal.

THANK YOU, CHEF TOUROUNDEL Skirt Steak was created by acclaimed French chef Laurent Tourondel, whose career includes opening numerous acclaimed restaurants in New York and around the world including the fabulous rustic Italian/Modern American resto L’Amico on the other side of the Kimpton Eventi’s minimalist yet comfortable lobby. Tourondel developed the concept with the philosophy that exceptional steakhouse dining does not need to be complicated or prohibitively expensive. Inspired by the casual steak-frites restaurants of France, he built Skirt Steak around one perfectly executed cut of beef, quality ingredients, approachable pricing, and an energetic atmosphere. Since opening in November 2021, the restaurant has become one of Manhattan’s most popular destinations for diners seeking a streamlined, high-quality steakhouse experience. They welcome families as well as the classic NYC foodie crowd that gravitates to the front desk ahead of time to get on the waitlist (reservations are only permitted for parties of six or more). TALLOW STEAKHOUSE OFFERING A PRIME STEAK PRE-FIXE YOU CAN’T RESIST

N

By Anne Raso

othing is quite more desirable to steak lovers than to get a bargain on their favorite cuts with an amazing large Italian style salad and unlimited fries. In these days of restaurants rising prices every couple of months, this is the only place that you will get steaks from the legendary Pat LaFrieda Meats at supermarket prices! Located inside the newly opened Shaver Hall at 424 Fifth Avenue, Tallow Steakhouse is designed as a modern interpretation of the classic New York steakhouse. Rather than feeling overly formal or stuffy, it combines traditional steakhouse elements with a contemporary, approachable atmosphere. Decor-wise, Tallow is rich and inviting. Dark wood finishes, caramel-colored leather banquettes, polished wood tables, brass accents, and warm lighting create a timeless, upscale look reminiscent of Manhattan’s iconic steakhouses. The open bar is a focal point, with bottles glowing behind it, while crisp white napkins, quality glassware, and classic steakhouse table settings reinforce the refined atmosphere. Despite being inside a bustling food hall, the restaurant feels like its own distinct dining room, separated enough to provide a more intimate experience. TEMPTIN’ TENDERLOIN The restaurant offers a prix fixe menu centered on USDA Prime steaks (you get a choice a seven-ounce Tenderloin, eight-ounce Hanger Steak or a 10-ounce Picanha), hand-cut tallow fries, classic salads, and an excellent cocktail program that focuses on Dirty Martinis, Old Fashioneds, and Manhattans. GETTING TO THE MEAT OF THE MATTER The menu is extra simple as getting to “the meat of the matter” is what Tallow is all about. They exclusively offer the $49.99 price fixe mentioned above and the only items that can be added are Bone Marrow, amazing homemade Sourdough Focaccia alone or with Homemade Burrata. What did I order as the world’s biggest steak fan who simply can’t get enough medium rare beef? You just know that I had to go for the Tenderloin, and I loved that it came out perfectly medium rare and hot—I could barely eat half of it after having partaken of the generously portioned the Italian style salad topped with pepperoncini, garlic croutons, tomatoes, onions and an amazing slightly citrusy, slightly creamy dressing. My guest and I devoured the Sourdough Focaccia which was served nice and warm with a side of Homemade Burrata that tasted like it was just shipped in from Puglia, both drizzled with EVOO. The unlimited fries cooked in tallow were other worldly and both my guest and I were excited to get seconds despite the initial portion being huge! The kind staff through in extra fries for me when I had to take my leftover steak home in a doggy bag (that was so kind)!

SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 69

BRING ON THE DESSERT CART About six or seven desserts are available each night and are served at the end of the meal from a sophisticated silver and wood cart, with the giant Chocolate Chip Cookie with a giant melted chip in the center being the signature sweet. My guest and I devoured the creamy Key Lime Cheesecake with perfectly graham cracker crust. As for the Posset (a creamy panna cotta-like British dessert topped with raspberry sauce), we were tempted to actually lick the plate but were afraid that it would not be too appetizing for the other guests to see, LOL! We did not get the Chocolate Mousse but were able to try it at a special press preview a couple of weeks before. Let me just say right here that the chocolate used is rich—it is closer to dark chocolate than milk chocolate so it is very satisfying--and there’s a warm chewy brownie and three kinds of tiny chocolate balls serving as very special and unexpected toppings! In case you’re curious, the driving force behind the Tallow Steakhouse is Randy DeWitt, founder and CEO of The Food Hall Company. DeWitt is a longtime restaurant entrepreneur who has spent decades developing hospitality and entertainment venues across the United States. Instead of filling Shaver Hall with only outside tenants, his team developed several original concepts—including Tallow Steakhouse, Tallow Butcher Shop, and the central Layaway cocktail bar—to give the food hall its own identity. A LIVELY CROWD In case you are concerned that Tallow is loud like other steakhouses, let me say that the mood is lively without being loud. During dinner, expect a buzz of conversation, upbeat background music, and a crowd that ranges from business professionals and after-work groups to couples on date nights and visitors exploring Midtown. It’s energetic enough to feel exciting but still quiet enough for conversation, making it well suited for both social dinners and business meals. Online reviews have specifically praised the ambiance, comfortable leather seating, and welcoming bar area. ALSO CHECK OUT SHAVER FOOD HALL One unique aspect of the experience is stepping out of the elegant dining room and directly into the larger Shaver Hall Food Hall. The historic former Lord & Taylor building has been transformed into a stylish culinary destination with soaring ceilings, restored architectural details, contemporary lighting, communal seating, and a central cocktail bar called Layaway. The contrast between Tallow’s intimate steakhouse feel and the vibrant energy of the surrounding hall gives the restaurant a distinctive personality that’s different from a standalone steakhouse. If you have adventuresome friends in from out of town, I can’t emphasize asking to be put at a communal table so that they will have some fun interactions with bonafide NYC foodies! Overall, if you’re looking for a steakhouse with the atmosphere of old New York but without the stiffness of some traditional institutions, Tallow delivers a warm, polished setting. You’ll feel comfy in their leather booths, and will also love their moody lighting, excellent cocktails, and an energetic Midtown vibe that feels both contemporary and comfortably familiar. RESCUE TAKES CENTER STAGE

NYC SECOND CHANCE RESCUE HONORS JOHN PAUL DEJORIA AT HAMPTONS BENEFIT YC Second Chance Rescue’s fifth annual Concert for a Cause brought philanthropy, music and animal advocacy together in Bridgehampton, honoring John Paul DeJoria and featuring performances by Ashanti and Fabolous.

NYC Second Chance Rescue returned to the Hamptons for its 5th Annual Concert for a Cause, gathering supporters at a private Bridgehampton estate for an evening devoted to saving vulnerable animals. This year’s event honored entrepreneur, philanthropist and longtime animal advocate John Paul DeJoria, while also marking the world introduction of Pawpoint. The evening combined fundraising, entertainment and community support for one of New York’s active animal rescue organizations. Musical performances were led by Grammy Award-winning artist Ashanti and platinum-selling artist Fabolous, bringing a high-energy element to the benefit. Fundraising continued throughout the evening with a live auction, including a yacht charter donated by Lauren and Eddie Shapiro of NestSeekers, along with a paddle raise supporting the organization’s rescue efforts.

“It is an honor to be recognized by NYC Second Chance Rescue,” DeJoria said. “Their compassion, dedication, and commitment to animals are truly inspiring, and I am grateful to be part of an evening that will help so many animals in need.” Among the notable guests were Jennifer Brooks, Lisa Blanco, Lisa Rose, Katie McEntee, Beth Stern, Carole Radziwill, Peter Cook, Kenneth and Maria Fishel, Blair and Margit Brandt, along with DeJoria, Ashanti and Fabolous. © BFA / David Benthal)

Presenting sponsors Alexander Capital Ventures LLC, Montauk Project and the Phenom Foundation helped support the evening and the organization’s ongoing work. Founded in 2009, NYC Second Chance Rescue is a nonprofit dedicated to helping dogs and cats facing some of the most difficult circumstances. The organization has rescued more than 17,000 animals, with a particular focus on large-breed dogs and critically injured or medically complex animals that can be difficult to place. Through its foster network and Long Island City Adoption Center, the rescue provides medical treatment, rehabilitation and adoption services. Its broader community programs also work to help families keep pets they already love, reducing the number of animals entering shelters in the first place. With Concert for a Cause now in its fifth year, the Bridgehampton benefit continues to combine the glamour of a Hamptons summer evening with a mission rooted firmly in compassion. THE RETURN OF FAVORITE COMEDIES PRACTICAL MAGIC 2 PG-13 Who says you can’t go home again? Just ask Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who star in this magical sequel releasing 28 years after the original film. Sure, some of the magic involves facial fillers and other weird stuff, but those two, along with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest return to the tale of two sisters/witches whose daughters share their romantic curse. Maisie Williams from “Game of Thrones” gives a fresh new face to this one.

SHAUN THE SHEEP: THE BEAST OF MOSSY BOTTOM PG We’re all in for this third installment of Aardman Animation’s Shaun the Sheep saga, since every one is funnier than the next. This time, there’s a Halloween theme, a “wild” monster á la Frankenstein and, of course, the whole flock of sheep along for the hilarious ride. And this one is a flick that will make both adults and kids laugh out loud!

THRILLS, CHILLS AND A VERY GOOD DOG BY ANY MEANS R Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II star in this intense factbased 1960s thriller that pairs a white Mafia capo with a Black FBI agent, who pair up in Mississippi to find three men, civil rights advocates who had disappeared. Acting without the restraints of the FBI’s legalities, the pair bring a KKK member to the edge and discover where the bodies were buried. Don’t be surprised if you have to look twice to realize who Wahlberg is in this brutal tale of racism and murder.

HEART OF THE BEAST Not yet rated Brad Pitt and a very good dog named Odin star in this story of survival in the Alaskan wilderness. After a plane crash strands the two of them in a place that may be impossible to survive, this adventure thriller keeps us wondering how Pitt at age 61 lived through this intense production. He and Odin are supposed to be retired U.S. Special Forces combat veterans in this intense flick.

PRIMETIME Not yet rated Robert Pattinson stars and produces this true story of newscaster Chris Hansen, who hosted the controversial NBC reality show “To Catch a Predator” in the early 2000s. Telling the inside story of what happened to the pedophiles targeted and caught on camera by the show, this creepy thriller is not for the faint of heart. Merrit Weaver, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine and Anna Faris costar.

COMEDIES FROM OLD FRIENDS BROTHERS Apple TV This one’s a bit hard to wrap your head around unless you are stoned, but here goes: Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey star in this scripted comedy about themselves, two old friends who discover they might actually be brothers. As the story unfolds, people turn up who play themselves, while others like Holland Taylor, play characters. If you have trouble following this, we suggest you eat a gummy.

A DIFFERENT WORLD Netflix If it seems like everyone in Hollywood is going back to the roles they played 40 years ago, that’s because it is true. Here we go again, this time with a reboot of the hit show that aired from 1987 to 1993 about Black students making their way through college in a HBCU. The kids are newcomers, with Maleah Joi Moon playing the daughter of original stars Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy, who are also back, along with Glynn Turman and other familiar faces.

COPS AND CRIMINALS LINE OF FIRE NBC Peter Krause leaves “9-1-1” behind for this new law enforcement show that centers on generations of a family that are all enmeshed in catching criminals. With parents and kids who are FBI, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals and other crimefighters, the plot of this one sweeps up the whole family into a morass of criminal intrigue as the season develops. Hope Davis, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom and Kat Cunning round out the family unit.

MOBLAND (Season 2) Paramount+ MobLand is such a terrific crime family saga that we just have to talk about its return with the second season. With Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren chewing the scenery as the heads of the brutally ruthless Harrigan crime family and Tom Hardy back as their reluctant fixer, this one’s the continuation of season one’s wild ride. Plus, Guy Ritchie brings his fast-paced original style as producer and director back this season, too, so we’re all in for this one.

MONSTER: THE LIZZIE BORDEN STORY Netflix Producer Ryan Murphy is back with another “Monster” true murder story, after doing seasons about Dahmer, the Menendez brothers and Gein. This one returns to the 1890s to explore the true tale of Lizzy Borden, the Massachusetts woman accused of murdering her parents. With Ella Beatty as Lizzy, Charlie Hunnam as her father, Rebecca Hall as her mother and Billie Lourd as her sister, this one’s set to remind a new generation of the oft-told mystery that surrounds that dastardly deed.

CRIMES OF THE HEART

AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER

“Crimes Of The Heart” is a Pulitzer Prize winner that takes place in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. The plot is based mostly on three sisters who try to navigate societal expectations. Writer Beth Henley lays it out plainly by juxtaposing cousin Chick Boyle (Branwyn Richie) against the Magrath sisters: Lenny, Meg and Babe.

“An American Daughter” at the Diamond Theatre at Pershing Square has many moving parts to it. It is political- the play takes part in Georgetown where politics are at the forefront of everything. Dr. Lyssa Hughes (Jean Lichty) is the daughter of conservative Senator Alan Hughes(Dakin Matthews). She is about to be appointed Surgeon General until something happens that could dampen he hopes of approval.

Lenny (Jacqui Byrne) is the most responsible of the sisters. She is the caretaker of the ailing grandfather. Byrne is mostly the anchor in this play. Her role commands the stage as she sets both the tone and the pace of this classic play. Director Eve Bianco does well having the ladies feed off one another as it was Hanley’s intention when she wrote the book that the young woman break free of their oppressive pasts and that they accept one another. Under a warm set (Stevie Fenstermacher), “Crimes Of The Heart” is able to unfold in the Magrath kitchen. The lemonade and the coffee flow throughout the two and a half hours. As the play unfolds, we get a sense that all is not well with each other. Babe (Violet Levinson) has just shot her abusive husband Zachery. Meg (Ana Radice-Morras) has returned home from Hollywood as a failed singer. In her youth, Meg had a reputation for being loose; she is a very selfish person and clueless to other peoples feelings. “Crimes Of The Heart” played at the Golden Theatre for three years on Broadway. The story is always underlying and never overbearing which gives the play its charm. Like the Broadway rendition (which I saw), this play succeeds on the acting as well as the lighting (Obid Abdurakhmanov) who hits the stage with glam lighting with the blues, cool whites and oranges in a glam lighting mode. At times the lights are too bright and blind the audience. Even so, we get the warm Southern feel regardless. The lighting is particularly deft in the night with the blues when Babe and her lawyer, Barnette (Luke Kissick) converse, and in the morning with the orange lighting.

Writer Wendy Wasserstein wrote this around 1997. It is different for her because in the past she was in your face political. Here, however, she takes a look at her party and criticizes it. The play delves into the hypocrisy of the left, the contradictions of the liberal elites. In her “The Heidi Chronicles” she had a much different tone about politics. The problem with Wasserstein’s play is several fold: director Sarna Lapine dis an awful job blocking this play. This made the actors look like they were acting onstage rather than appearing natural, less forced. Both Lichty (A lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur) and Robert Sean Leonard (At Home at the Zoo) were washed out by the direction. Both of these actors always give a good performance when onstage but here they were ineffective throughout the play. Add to the fact that Montego Glover could not hold her role as a Doctor, and you have a recipe for disaster. “An American Daughter” can be funny at times; some of the writing is both outdated and weak though. I never thought Wendy Wasserstein was a great writer, just a good one. Her “Sisters Rosensweig” was probably her best work, even though she had way more accolades with “Chronicles”.

What was really good about “Daughter” was the scenic design by Mikiko Suzuki MacAdams. The warm sun permeating through to the audience was comfortable to the eye. The lighting too (Alan C. Edwards) was warm with great colors to enhance the set. The sound design by Darron L. West helped this helpless play along with deft sounding throughout the two and The level of the pecking order was largely determined by the very good a half hours. costuming by Roxane Pes. Chick, the well dress proper Southern woman is a social climber. Her two outfits show us what a proper woman in Mississippi Where “American Daughter” could have been better is that the looks like. Lenny, the more practical woman is dressed as such. Pes picks up confrontation (the jury duty dilemma is just not that convincing) was the woman’s role and dresses them appropriately to their character. anemic. The unemotional relationship between father and daughter was to evident from the start. The “fixer” of the conflict was way to ineffective. This “Crimes Of The Heart” was well done and should be seen. The actors His nerdiness was more annoying to the audience than it was funny. flow well with one another, the direction pays careful attention to the detail of each character. The subtlety that was the 1981 play, the 1986 movie is Between the weak direction, the holes in the consistency of some of the kept steadfast to the underlying messages. The girl’s smile when they hurt actors, the very inconsistent writing, “An American Daughter” is a play underneath. The playful banter is fun to watch and the old Southern Moor’s that will leave you scratching your head and asking “what was the writer are kept at the heart of the play even when the girls are a wreck. trying to accomplish here?” 76 | OUR CITY, YOUR LIFE | SEPTEMBER 2026

THE BATHROOM ATTENDANT “The Bathroom Attendant” at Theater 124 Bank Street is for the most part an enjoyable play. The play is written by Tom Kelly and directed by Andrew Block. The two hour play takes place on the seedy side of town just outside Las Vegas, Nevada. Johnny (Dan Patrick Brady) is a former Golden Gloves Boxer who has a penchant for gambling, hookers and fast money schemes. The person who he is closest to is Tina (Kate Miller) who is probably the best directed of all the characters. She is able to act her role with real authority and believability. The first act moves well because the story unfolds nicely. The dialogue between Johnny and Tina as well as Connor (Evan Klein) is when the play is at its best. Connor has seen something atrocious and he relies on his fathers old family friend from the Brooklyn days to help him execute a plan that will expose a celebrity in the baseball community. The second act is a little more far fetched but the story remains interesting regardless. Actors Jon Krupp and Mari Blake as Bambi have larger roles in act two. Blake was very good in “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”. Here, however, her and Jon Krupp as Marcus never really are that believable, nor are they very effective to the plot.In Krupp, he is never too believable in his role; he never strikes us as a tough guy. Blake too seems discombobulated as a young prostitute who wants revenge. This play could have been sensational if the second act was as strong as the first. Instead, Kelly brings trafficking, the presidents false rape charges into the play. This useless rhetoric does nothing for this play that has down-trotten people dealing with everyday life and barely getting by. Even though Tina, a former porn star, wants to help young women like Bambi, the long trafficking speeches are superfluous and time consuming for the audience. The direction is inconsistent during this two hour play. At times the blocking seems to be a problem. At times the actors are very good, at other times the actors seem lost in their movements. This falls directly on the blocking. Both Miller and Brady who have vast theater experience at times seem like they are forcing the plot along. In a play of this genre both Sound and lighting are extremely important. Tony Lepore does a deft job in the sound and design. The play is at its best when the lighting which brilliantly backstops the play as well as locks in the mood. The play too in sound brings the emotional tone to the forefront. When the play is clicking and the action picks up, Lepore is brilliant with the sound. In the design as well, we see just how deflated these people are residing in this beaten up place where the lowest of the low come to live. “The Bathroom Attendant” is a play that during the two hours is both excellent and really slipshod. If Kelly is able to shake out the plots weakness and put into it more meaningful writing, this show can be a real hit. SEPTEMBER 2026 | NEW YORK LIFESTYLES MAGAZINE | 77

BEYOND THE HEDGES INSIDER’S VIEW OPENS SOUTHAMPTON’S PRIVATE HOMES AND GARDENS FOR ONE DAY

T

By Lillian Langtry

he Southampton History Museum’s annual Insider’s View returns September 12, offering guests rare access to privately owned historic homes and gardens before concluding with a reception at Rogers Mansion.

For one afternoon each September, Southampton’s celebrated hedges reveal what they usually conceal. The Southampton History Museum’s annual Insider’s View returns on Saturday, September 12, 2026, inviting guests inside a carefully curated selection of privately owned historic houses and exceptional gardens. The event has become one of the East End’s most distinctive cultural traditions, combining architecture, landscape design and local history with access to properties that are rarely open to the public. Rather than announcing the participating homes in advance, organizers preserve an element of mystery. Tour locations remain confidential until the day of the event, when ticket holders receive an exclusive map and parking information at check-in. That sense of discovery is part of what has made Insider’s View a perennial favorite. “The element of surprise and discovery is what makes this tour so special,” said Sarah Kautz, Executive Director of the Southampton History Museum. Each property, she noted, contributes to the larger story of Southampton while helping support the Museum’s mission of preserving and sharing that history with future generations. Board President and event chair Averitt Buttry echoed that idea, describing the tour as an opportunity to experience Southampton’s architectural history “one beautiful surprise at a time.” The self-guided tour will conclude with a reception sponsored by Sant Ambroeus on the grounds of the Museum’s historic Rogers Mansion. Guests will gather there to celebrate the village’s architectural legacy while supporting the Museum’s preservation work, educational programming and stewardship of its historic sites, collections and archives.

The timing is especially fitting as the nation continues its America 250th commemorations and public interest in local history remains strong. Insider’s View offers a reminder that history is not limited to museums or textbooks. In Southampton, it can be found in preserved facades, long-established gardens, architectural details and the private residences that have helped shape the character of the village for generations. By opening a select group of these properties for just one day, the Museum gives visitors a rare opportunity to experience that heritage in an unusually intimate way. A FALL CALENDAR OF FASHION, ART, CULTURE AND SOCIETY

F

By Lillian Langtry

all arrives at full speed this year as New York and the surrounding region move from the final days of the summer social season into a packed calendar of polo, fashion, art, architecture and philanthropy. Beginning in Greenwich over Labor Day weekend and quickly shifting to New York Fashion Week, the season moves through Manhattan galleries, Grand Central Terminal and the newly reopened Waldorf Astoria before continuing into October and November with exhibitions and philanthropic gatherings.

The fall equestrian season begins in Greenwich as Greenwich Polo Club brings together two of the sport’s most spectacular disciplines during September. The East Coast Open, presented by Audi, continues with Sunday polo on September 6th and September 13th, bringing leading players and equine athletes to the field at Conyers Farm for one of the most celebrated tournaments on the East Coast polo calendar. Established in 1981 and recognized as one of the world’s leading high-goal polo venues, Greenwich Polo Club combines elite competition with a distinctive field-side social scene of lawn seating, hospitality, cabanas and the traditional halftime divot stomp. Later in the month, the focus shifts from the polo field to the show jumping arena as CSI Greenwich returns September 26th and 27th. The two-day event brings Olympic-level international CSI5* show jumping to Greenwich Polo Club, with leading riders and horses competing at one of the most distinctive stops on the international equestrian calendar.
