For Robin and Howard Reisman, Newton-Wellesley is woven into the fabric of their family story.
They’ve trusted the hospital through every milestone: from the births of three daughters to routine checkups and everything in between. To the Dover couple, “the nurses and doctors are the greatest people on Earth.”
Their love of NWH goes beyond clinical excellence to something far deeper. Their broader experiences with healthcare have reminded them how “not all places are like Newton-Wellesley.” They realize how truly special our culture of compassion is.
Their approach to giving is deeply intentional and rooted in family values. Predominately supporting health and education, they focus locally because they believe that’s where they can make the most meaningful impact.
Whether investing in our LINAC project for radiation oncology or the new Center for Bone and Joint Preservation, they give because they want their neighbors to have access to expert, compassionate care close to home.

Every year, Carly and Nick Kunkler ask themselves that question. They devote time to sit down together and consider ways to give back. Whenever they do, NewtonWellesley is top of mind.
To them, NWH represents everything a community hospital should be: exceptional care delivered with warmth, compassion, and a personal touch.
When they chose to have their children here, the experience transformed their understanding of what
healthcare could be. “From the moment I was admitted, I just felt so calmed and reassured,” Carly recalls. Nick cherishes the experience of helping deliver their youngest child with the doctor’s guidance.
From primary care to emergency medicine, “NewtonWellesley provides such an invaluable service to this community,” they believe.

For Sharman Rosen, Newton-Wellesley represents generations of family connection and care.
Born and raised in Newton, Sharman grew up seeing her parents’ and relatives’ names throughout the hospital, creating what she calls “a very lovely community connection.”
That bond deepened five years ago when her husband was admitted to the ICU during COVID. Despite pandemic restrictions, the hospital invited her to spend each day with him. “They really stepped up,” she says gratefully. “My husband came out alive and well.”
Their extraordinary care inspires her to direct her support to the ICU. “I love giving to where I know it’s going to make an impact,” she says. That means more to her than anything.
Over time, “the impact you make by giving all adds up.” Each gift builds on a legacy of family support.
For Sharman, it’s never about recognition. It’s about helping others when they need it most. And it’s such a good feeling. As she passes that lesson on to her children and grandchildren, she loves learning from their generosity.
Love and gratitude
Terri and Jeff Rosica are beyond grateful for their “Newton-Wellesley family.”
In the wake of a frightening breast cancer diagnosis, our world-class team guided Terri back to health. At a trying time, “everybody has you in their arms,” she felt. Because of them, she knew in her heart that she’d get through this.
After such a life-changing experience, “the opportunity to give back meant a lot to us,” Jeff notes. “We wanted to do anything we could to help them, because they did so much to help us.”
In thanks, they generously chose to fund professional development for the Advanced Practice Providers— from nurse practitioners to physician assistants—who care for hundreds of patients like Terri every day at NWH. “This fund will impact so many people, and I wanted to be a part of that,” she says.
To the Rosicas, the way everyone on staff cares so deeply makes all the difference. They’re thankful to make a difference in return.

A culture of giving
For Amy and Ed Wertheim, giving comes naturally.
The couple have called Newton home for 53 years—and have always counted on Newton-Wellesley. “Having such a high-quality local hospital is very important to us,” Ed reflects.
When it comes to supporting NWH, “we feel fortunate to be able to give and help,” Amy explains, seeing it as a community responsibility.
From a very young age, they both grew up in what they describe as a “culture of giving.” Their families actively instilled a value for volunteering and service. “Whether
or not they had wealth, our parents always gave back to their community,” they recount.
“This community’s been very good to us,” Ed adds gratefully, “and at our age we want to give back and help others.”
In their philanthropy, they focus on programs with concrete, measurable outcomes, such as funding new technology to improve care for ED patients.
With children and grandchildren living nearby, they’re invested in sustaining Newton-Wellesley as a powerful local resource for generations to come.

For Ann and David Ingram, giving is a joy and a blessing. The South Natick couple love seeing the transformational impact that philanthropy can have.
Across three decades, their relationship with NewtonWellesley has evolved from Ann’s initial Board and current Palliative Care Council service to a shared commitment to supporting its present and future.
“Financial resources for us are a tool, not a destination,” they reflect. In contributing to NWH, they’re grateful for the means to respond to needs that are close to their hearts. They’ve dedicated their time in equal measure.
Their collaborative “Team Ingram” approach to giving sets them apart. Their philosophy centers on getting their “arms around” organizations, building genuine relationships, and giving along a continuum from annual support to legacy gifts.
Having experienced Newton-Wellesley’s unforgettable care firsthand, they appreciate its unique place in the community—and its ongoing efforts to make healthcare accessible.

Eliza P. Kendall Society
The Eliza P. Kendall Society proudly recognizes individuals during their lifetime who have chosen to support the hospital through charitable bequests or life income gifts. The Society is named in honor of Eliza P. Kendall, who in 1886 was the first person to remember the hospital in her estate.

Gala raises $900,000 for NWH Community Collaborative
At the 25th annual Gala, 400 guests enjoyed an evening to remember at the Westin Waltham. Together, they celebrated all that Newton-Wellesley means to them and to our communities.
Golfers contribute to brighter future
More than 100 golfers joined us for the 2025 NWH Golf Tournament, raising over $190,000 for the Workforce Development Council’s summer internship program.
Celebrating Team NWH
As a member of the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program, NWH fielded a team of 11 charity runners in the 129th Boston Marathon in April 2025. Together, they raised more than $144,000 to support expert, compassionate care.

No greater purpose
For Clint Liebenberg, giving back means showing up.
After retiring in 2024, he sought a way to contribute beyond financial support. “I wanted to do something meaningful and purposeful, and the first place that came to mind was Newton-Wellesley.”
Since then, he’s devoted over 300 hours as a volunteer in the surgical recovery unit. He also serves on NWH’s Board of Advisors and the Youth Mental Health Council of the Community Collaborative.
Growing up in South Africa, he saw firsthand the sharp divide between great wealth and deep poverty. Those
early experiences shaped a guiding conviction: "there is no greater purpose than serving others."
For both him and his wife, Lorraine, giving back is a deeply held value—one they are intentional about passing on to their four children. For them, it begins at home and is taught by example.
“My family is my true north,” he reflects. When one of their daughters needed specialized care as a pediatric inpatient, “we realized how very lucky we are to have Newton-Wellesley at our doorstep.”
He describes the hospital in one word: “Amazing!”

Your annual support of the NWH Fund gave our family of caregivers the flexibility to meet our patients’ most urgent needs. Gifts to capital projects allowed us to enhance and maintain our facilities while also investing in state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that our patients receive the safest, highest quality care close to home. Endowment gifts provide stability and sustainability to programs that are key to the present and future health and wellbeing of our community.

Over the past eight years, our Summer Student Internship Program has welcomed nearly 150 high school students to NewtonWellesley as part of a collaboration with the Waltham Partnership for Youth. Last summer’s 25 paid interns explored careers in medicine with guidance from dedicated supervisor mentors. Proceeds from this year’s NWH Golf Tournament again helped to fund the program. Speaking at the event, an intern who dreams of becoming a doctor recounted how the experience helped “confirm that I belong in this field.”
