In order to have this procedure done he needed to go to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. It was there he underwent numerous tests to make sure he was ready and able to participate in this live organ transplant. “It wasn’t just a stress test on your body to make sure it was in good health,” he told News Of The Area. “They tested your mind too to make sure you knew what you

The rules also re-introduce the one-person-per-foursquare-metre rule for all indoor and outdoor settings, prohibit drinking while standing and dancing at indoor venues, and mandate mask wearing in all indoor non-residential settings, including workplaces, among other restrictions. Nambucca Heads and Valla Chamber of Commerce treasurer Julie Garvey said the timing of the restrictions was unfortunate for local businesses. “The Nambucca Valley was gearing up for these school holidays,” she said, adding that cafes, clubs, restaurants and holiday parks would be among the hardest hit. “Particularly during the winter months, when trade is slower, they really do rely on the

The Dine & Discover program was also extended until the end of August and the vouchers can now be used on takeaway meals. The announcement came after coronavirus restrictions announced on Saturday, June 26, threw plans for what would usually be a busy school holiday period in the Nambucca Valley into disarray. the postponement of the 2021 Veterans Week of Golf tournament that was set to take place at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club from July 4 to 9, with venue manager Jonathan Zirkler saying he hoped to be able to reschedule it for late August. “We had 140 people plus reserves booked in per day,” he said, adding that at least 50 of that number were from the greater Sydney region and would’ve been unable to attend. were doing.” One of the positive aspects of being a live donor is it gives the medical fraternity time to find the best possible recipient match to have the most longevity out of the organ. “Unlike a donation after someone has passed away, with this, they could take their time in finding the right match,” Gordon explained. Once a match was found the operation was performed. The operation and transplant was a great success. Once Gordon’s kidney was connected to its recipient the kidney started working immediately and produced urine. In the case of a live donor transplant, the recipient is able to send a card to the

These days, Gordon is taking on a different challenge, embarking on a ‘Walk to End the Wait’ trek from the Gold Coast to Sydney to raise awareness of the importance of becoming an organ donor, while raising funds for Transplant Australia. “Families need to have the discussion,” he said. “We need to talk about
it, kids, tell your parents,” Gordon said passionately. Gordon has been stopping at schools along the way, addressing assemblies encouraging the youth to have that talk with their loved ones. His trip involved a visit to Macksville, where he met with Nambucca Valley Mayor Cr Rhonda Hoban. “The Nambucca Valley Council has proudly donated $500 to this cause,” Mrs Hoban announced. Unfortunately, when Gordon reached Port Macquarie, the halfway point, Sydney was shut down in a COVID-19 lockdown. “I am a little disappointed I can't walk all the way to Sydney, but I have decided to turn around and walk back to the Queensland border,” he told News Of The Area. It will be roughly the same
distance as going the distance to Sydney. How does Gordon train for an event like this? “You can’t train for walking 72km per day at home,” he stated. His training regime involves a combination of high intensity interval training, weights, running and hiking. So what is next for Gordon? He will commence training for the Kokoda challenge on the Gold Coast, a 96km trek through the bushland and up and down terrain. activities of the Nambucca Heads Lion Club for the year. Among the accomplishments of the Lions this year was the support offered to farmers being hit by floodwaters through the provision of skip bins, assisting BlazeAid with weekly Saturday night BBQs, the supplying of fencing materials to farmers from a $60000 donation by the Australian Lion Foundation (ALF), and Youth of the Year projects. Don Parveez’s retirement from the Lions Club was also announced. Mr Parveez has been a Lion
Club member for 30 years, and Mr Beatton provided an entertaining presentation of slides showcasing Mr Parveez’s long history with the club. Lion John Mills OAM said when speaking of Mr Parveez, “He has been a fantastic worker for the club, absolutely fantastic. “He gets himself into everything. “Don is a hardworking man, he never gives up.” The refurbishment of Lion’s Lookout will be the last project for Mr Parveez, marking the end of a
long and committed service to the club and Nambucca Heads. “A major project that we have been doing is revamping Lions Park,” said Mr Beatton in his President’s report. “Through a club grant program through the RSL club, and through ALF as well, we have achieved the funds we needed. “It is looking tremendous out there. “Although we have had a little vandalism out there unfortunately.”

Council responds to sewerage concerns
By Brooke LEWIS
KEMPSEY Shire Council has responded to questions raised about plans for a sewerage treatment plant to service Stuarts Point, Grassy Head and Fishermans Reach, reassuring residents that the system has been designed to mitigate the risk of groundwater contamination during floods. Among the issues raised by locals was whether the proposed pressure sewer system would pose similar risks to that of the current septic system. “With the system they’re suggesting, every house will have a collection well with a pump in it that connects to the sewer. “If we have another flood like we’ve just had, every collection well that
isn’t sealed properly will overflow,” plumber Brett Hughes said. “The system they’re proposing won’t stop the pollution when it floods.” Hughes said improving drainage of the town would be the best way to avoid contamination of groundwater in future floods, noting that “a few properties will be low spots where you might need pumping stations” but kerb and guttering was key. “If they drained the town properly, down to the river, they wouldn’t even need the sewer. I don’t think it would be hard to do,” he said. Kempsey Shire Council Director, Operations & Planning, Robert Fish said that unlike the septic systems currently in place, which are the responsibility of each
property owner, Council would be responsible for ensuring collection tanks are properly sealed and maintained. “Tanks will be appropriately sealed to mitigate any such impacts and this process will be operated and maintained by Council,” Mr Fish said. In response to questions about whether kerb and guttering works would be a simpler and more cost effective flood mitigation strategy than the planned sewerage system, Fish said it was being considered as part of a solution but was unlikely to be sufficient on its own. “Kerb and guttering works may be an option for stormwater drainage improvement, however many properties sit lower than the roads.
“As one could imagine, this has the potential to worsen stormwater impacts in such locations,” he said. “Further investigations into the recent events are being carried out. “These will allow Council to better understand stormwater upgrade needs and evolve a more informed maintenance plan of key drains within the area. “These investigations will need to take into account both the impacts from heavy rainfall and associated flash flooding, as well as the complications of rising water table events.” Mr Fish rejected suggestions development opportunities had been the “driving force” behind the sewerage system, but noted that “it will provide opportunity for growth in
THEY say one good deed deserves another and that adage certainly rings true in the town of Bowraville. The rural community had already been affected by drought when the devastating bushfires of 2019 saw families lose their homes. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, it brought with it disastrous consequences for those who had already suffered through tough times. But you know what they say about when the going gets tough... As schools all around the country closed, Bowraville Central School reached out to Variety NSW/ ACT and applied for Variety’s Tech4Schools grant. Variety NSW/ ACT were thrilled to be able to support the school by supplying 129 laptops for their students from Kindergarten to Year 12 - many of whom had no access to technology at home. The devices enabled students to stay connected to their teachers and their
friends and to fully participate in remote learning lessons. Bowraville Central School, Community Liaison Officer, Megan Cochrane, said the students and teachers were overwhelmed to receive support in such a time of need. "We were all just so grateful - we couldn't believe it! “So I did some research regarding Variety and discovered the Variety Australia ‘Hair with Heart’ program.” The Hair with Heart program uses donated hair to create wigs for those who have lost their hair due to a medical condition. “I thought it may be a good way for our students to ‘pay it forward’ after they had received such generosity themselves," Megan said. The Student Representative Council (SRC) guided by teacher Jan Sheriff, wasted no time in taking on the fundraising initiative and asking for volunteers to take the chop.
School Learning Support Officer, Bonni Sambrook, was the first to put her hand up followed by Year 12 student, Alexi Reynolds. "When the SRC started talking about the Hair with Heart program, I had lots of teachers come up to me and ask if I would cut my hair," Alexi said. "I chose to get involved because I've had family and friends that suffered with cancer. “I was also in need of a haircut!"
Alexi and Bonni visited local workplaces and asked for donations. Teachers at the school donated and the SRC also asked school families to give what they could. By the time of the big chop, the school had raised $1115 - an incredible effort for a school of only 170 students and a community with a population of just 1122 in total! The Bowraville community came together for the 'çhopping day' with
the area, and there is land surrounding Stuarts Point already zoned for potential residential subdivision”, along with other benefits for homeowners and local businesses. “It is also anticipated that the sewerage scheme will improve property values in the area, based on increased land value, development potential and improved social benefits,” he said. “The sewerage scheme will also help the area cater for visitor populations in caravan parks and allow for additional property development. "The scheme is also anticipated to improve estuary health for oyster growers in the area.” Mr Fish said the main motivation for the sewerage scheme was replacing
the area’s large number of septic systems that do not comply with modern standards for treatment quality and disposal area conditions, posing a risk of groundwater contamination and associated public health impacts via overflow events. “The key driver for the Stuarts Point sewerage scheme is addressing the issues that exist with existing treatment systems in use in the villages,” he said. “The modern wastewater management system that will result from this project will have numerous benefits for the entire area, including a positive environmental impact by reducing onsite system leakage and eliminating odour and water quality issues,” Mr Fish said.

of interest What to do with your children these Expressions for building Valla Beach growth area school holidays? By Tamara MCWILLIAM
WITH new Covid-19 restrictions putting a dampener on these school holidays it can be difficult to keep your young ones entertained for the entire school break. To all the parents wondering what to do with their children during this time, while keeping them in the Valley, rest assured the Nambucca Valley Libraries have you covered. The children can get their groove on whilst they design their own personal speaker set. The kit comes with a black texter and musicthemed sticker sheet, and the speakers can plug into most phones and tablets. On July 8 from 10:00am12:00pm the Macksville
Library will be holding a FREE DIY Projector event.
This event will teach the children about lenses and how light bends.
They will build the projector and write or draw something on a slide and watch it as it is projected onto the wall. To make a booking for this fabulous event please contact the Nambucca Heads Library on 65686906 or the Macksville Library on 65681422. The library will also be running story time throughout the school holidays at the usual times of Tuesday 10:00am at the Nambucca Library and Friday 10:00am at the Macksville Library.

FOLLOWING the completion of engineering designs, Nambucca Valley Council is seeking expressions of interest for the construction of the first stage of employment land off Red Ash Road at its Valla Growth Area. The civil works will create 8 hectares of employment land being the first stage of a proposed 71 hectares that will generate 750-1,250 new jobs. Council say the land is essential to support new employment. Nambucca Valley Mayor, Rhonda Hoban said the progress to a tender is a project milestone which would not have been possible without funding assistance from the NSW and Federal Governments. “The funding has come at a good time to support our local economy,” Cr Hoban said. “The Council has decided to undertake an expressions of interest process to provide better opportunity for local contractors to compete on a large civil construction project. “Consistent with Council’s aim for the Growth Area to contribute to the
economic wellbeing of our community it would be great if a local contractor using local labour was ultimately the preferred tenderer,” said Cr Hoban. “Of course we have a procurement and probity process for determining tenders which the Council will follow. “But factored into that process will be the economic multiplier benefits for our community which comes from supporting our local business,” she said. Applicants will initially be evaluated against published selection criteria, and those who best meet the required criteria will be invited to Tender (as tender type PreQualified/Invited). The Expression of Interest can be found at www. tenders.nsw.gov.au. The project is being managed by Public Works Advisory on behalf of Nambucca Valley Council. The closing date for expressions of interest is 9.30am 15 July 2021. Interested contractors are invited to contact Josh Batchelor at Public Works Advisory on 0436 631306 or Michael Coulter at Nambucca Valley Council on 0409 153788.

Beware Biomass
DEAR News Of The Area,
DON’T believe them when they say that using biomass to generate electricity for us is a good thing. Biomass is made up of several combustible items including old car tyres
which in my way of thinking would be a backward step when we are all crying out loud to the authorities to act urgently over climate change. Regards, Neville MCDONALD, Nambucca Heads.

Domestic violence seige in Macksville By Rachel MCGREGOR-ALLEN
AT 1:54am on Friday 25 June, Police received a Triple Zero (000) call and learnt that a lady and her young son were being held in a bedroom at a premises in Macksville. Police were dispatched to the location and heard property being damaged. The 000 caller was being held in a bedroom at those premises but the bedroom door had been barricaded. Acting Inspector Smith from Nambucca Valley Police stated that, “Police attempted
to negotiate with the offender who could be heard in the bedroom, however he appeared to be illogical and Police could hear the noise of smashing coming from the room.” Specialist police were then called to the scene. “Upon their arrival police attempted to negotiate a peaceful and safe release of the victim and her son, however the offender continued to make threats that if the bedroom was entered then he would harm them.” This continued for a number of hours.
At 7:30am the accused surrendered and went into Police custody. The victim and her son were taken to an ambulance and thankfully were deemed uninjured. The offender was charged with contravening an AVO, and a series of domestic violence related charges. Once the siege was resolved the offender was charged at Kempsey and was refused bail. Acting Inspector Smith had this to say for those who are suffering, or fear, domestic violence.
“If victims are prepared to ask for help there is help available. “I encourage people to come and speak to us and help will come. "Some of the services that would be made available to victims of domestic violence may come out of Coffs Harbour but they cover our area. “If you are experiencing domestic violence, please use one of your options, and this may be to just contact us. ”We are here to help.” USEFUL CONTACTS Emergency Services 000 Lifetime Connect - Macksville 6568 2522 Ngurrala Family Safety Services - Nambucca Valley 55079320 for Aboriginal men and women who are living with or suffering from Domestic Family Violence

SALLY and William have been married for 30 years. They own their matrimonial home jointly. At the age of 75, William is diagnosed with dementia and soon loses the ability to manage his affairs. Unfortunately, William had not executed a power of attorney or an appointment of enduring guardian, so Sally makes an application to the Guardianship Division of NCAT, seeking orders granting her the power to manage her husband’s affairs. Sally is appointed as William’s guardian, giving her the power to make arrangements for William to obtain a placement in a nursing home and to make other decisions regarding his personal care and medical treatment. However, in considering whether to make orders regarding the management of William’s financial affairs, the Tribunal hears that Sally wishes to sell their home and downsize on the basis that she is having difficulty maintaining the property on her own and meeting the expenses. The Tribunal informs Sally that if she wishes to sell the property as his financial manager, she will only be permitted to use half of the proceeds of sale to purchase another property, because William is entitled to the other half of the proceeds of sale. Sally is also informed that as William’s financial manager, she would also have to submit accounts to the NSW Trustee and Guardian as part of a regular audit process. Accordingly, Sally withdraws her application and has no alternative but to continue living in the house. If William had executed a power of attorney while he had the capacity to do so, these issues could have been avoided and the involvement of the Tribunal and the NSW Trustee and Guardian would not have been necessary. Waste discharge dispute By Brooke LEWIS
A LOCAL environmental scientist has sought legal advice from the Environmental Defenders Office in a bid to prevent Kempsey Shire Council pumping treated effluent into the dunes on the sandspit between the Macleay River and the ocean to the north of Stuarts Point. Unconvinced by Council assurances that the planned discharge point poses no environmental threat, Michael Jones said his research points to the potential for damage to the ecology of the sandspit as well as the waterways surrounding it. “There are three endangered ecological communities in that strip. “The one that worries me is the saltmarsh,” he said. “Where they’re talking about putting the discharge is 280-metres wide. “Contamination plumes can travel up to a kilometer, so it’s highly likely there will be contamination in the north arm of the Macleay and the sea over time.” Jones said this was a concern because, while waste is usually treated to a high level of purity prior
to being discharged, it doesn’t completely eliminate elements that can cause environmental damage and that “you can never get rid of the high nutrient levels” that can cause algae blooms in water systems. “Treating waste doesn’t destroy oestrogenic hormones and derivatives from painkillers, and the hormones will affect aquatic and marine life, including oysters,” he said, noting that the tidal river could carry the contamination to the oyster farms located south of the planned discharge point. “I think they want to put it so far north because they’re worried about the oyster farms down south, but you get tidal movement of pollutants anyway,” he said. “If I was an oyster farmer, I’d be concerned.” Jones said a site to the west of the planned sewerage treatment site, which is set to be located near the waste transfer site on Fishermans Reach Road, might be a more suitable option for the discharge point and would have the added benefits of being closer and not requiring a pipe system running under the north arm of the Macleay, reducing costs and the risk of leaks into the river. He noted that it would need to be kept well away from the drinking water supply located
in the area and said, regardless of whether or not that was the answer, there had to be a better option for the discharge site than the current plan. “Why would you have it going into a sensitive coastal environment where people swim and fish and you have the oyster industry? “Why take that risk? It’s just not necessary,” he said. Robert Fish, Kempsey Shire Council Director, Operations & Planning, said his team had worked closely with the NSW Environmental Protection Authority and NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to “thoroughly assess” options for discharging the treated effluent. “Dunal discharge was selected as the endorsed option of treated effluent discharge, similar to that in place at South West Rocks,” he said. “Other options were considered, including subsoil irrigation to the west of the sewage treatment plant site, however they were not suitable due to the ground conditions at Stuarts Point, particularly during periods of wet weather.” In response to questions about whether the treated effluent could be used to irrigate nearby avocado farms, Fish said it was an option that

“can still be pursued” and was an “ongoing consideration” but that it wouldn’t replace the dunal discharge plans. “The Stuarts Point sewerage scheme had to be designed to ensure a sustainable and complete sewerage service that would benefit and meet the needs of the whole community into the future under any circumstances. “As such, the system design needs to allow for the full quantity of treated effluent to be disposed of in the dune area, as there will be periods where irrigation is not required, such as following wet weather,” he said. “The capacity to dispose of the full quantity in the dunes does not make it compulsory. “The option of irrigation of safe, treated effluent from the scheme may exist and this idea will be further considered as the project is developed.” Fish denied that the planned dunal discharge point posed any threat to the area or waterways surrounding it. “Modelling has been undertaken to ensure there is no impact on the environment in the area where the discharge will take place,” he said. The Environmental Defenders Office declined to comment on the matter. 39 points from Leslie Mohr (24) with 38 points. In a nail biting finish that went right down to the wire, our division three Team defeated Sawtell 1 by 3 / 2 to win our first MNCDGA Pennant since 2012 – not bad for a team that we were never going to have until a last minute “shanghai” effort by Team Captain Andrew Mackinnon to recruit his team of novice Pennant players. I understand that they are all keen to sign up again for next year.

Bowls report for Nambucca Heads Men
By Grant LAWRENCE
ANOTHER excellent week of bowls was held at the Nambucca Heads Bowling Club on what many would describe as one of the best synthetic greens in Australia. Wednesday bowls attracted a field of 34 and 1st prize winners were Doug Cedelland, John Richardson and Stan Flack. Second prize went to the pairs game of Joe Franck and Dennis Graham (you beauty we saved $10) and 3rd prize went to Peter Dawe, Bill Mangrove Coughlan and Ray Long. The lucky losers prize went to another pairs game of Graham Horne and Gary Tierney, in what quite a profitable day some would say. The lucky bowler was Darcy Ken Rostron who advised it was the first time he’d ever been drawn out as the lucky bowler, unfortunately for Darcy he couldn’t get the money for his rink. Friday saw the introduction of fours in order to cater for more players and 54 bowlers turned out for the day that was sponsored by Bernard Laverty Funerals, which meant double the prizes, and if you couldn’t win a prize today then luck wasn’t on your side. First prize went to the team of Bill Blackford, Gary Tierney and Mick Targett, while the team of Tony Urquhart, Mick Ellison, Glen Brady and Mike James snared the other 1st prize. Second prize went to Grant Lawrence, Dave clubman of the year Ogilvy, Ian Lawrence and John McCollom. The other second prize went to the dream team of Mino Bettanin, Cec Smith, Don Ireland and Harry The Rock. Third prize went to the teams of Peter Meehan, Frank Wesley and John Reynolds, while Tony Stokes, Tommy Reynolds and Jack Young claimed the other 3rd prize. Lucky loser prizes went to the team of Ian Drum Poletti, Owen Smith and Dennis Graham, with the stacked team of Ken Rostron, John Hogarth, Danny Curran and Mark Blackford also claiming a lucky losers prize. The lucky bowler for the day was Stan Flack with a
chance to win the jackpot of $600 for his rink. Unfortunately Stan couldn’t win the $600 but instead generously donated $300 to another rink. The first round of the major singles was played on Saturday with a few players having been fortunate enough to get the bye. It was great to see a strong turnout of players to start the battle for the club's biggest championship in the club and a large contingent of supporters to either cheer or boo their club mates. Graham Hunt (the good brother) 31 def Shaun Smith 13, Doug Cedelland 31 def Rhys Riddell 17 in a blockbuster match, Peter Dawe 31 def Dallas Nancarrow 25, Bruce Mason 31 def Fred Pope 2, Grant Lawrence 31 def Mark Blackford 28, John Rowdy Reynolds 31 def Paul pushbike Michel 17, Graham Horne 31 def Peter Meehan 30 in a match that was about as close as you could get, Joe Franck 31 def John Richardson 30 in a game that went down to the wire, Adam The Terminator Rostron 31 def Tommy Reynolds 6, Aaron Cedelland 31 def Alan Cosgrave 27 and Tony Urquhart and Syd Campton both won their matches on forfeit. The second round of singles was played on Sunday afternoon with some excellent matches that were worthy of being finals. Graham Hunt 31 def Doug Cedelland 20, Bruce Mason 31 def Peter Dawe 28, Grant Lawrence 31 def John Reynolds 26, Graham Horne 31 def Syd Campton 22, Tye Webber 31 def Bill Coughlan 19, Ken Rostron 31 def Gary Tierney 8, Joe Franck 31 def Adam Rostron 30 in a game where both players produced some brilliant bowls, and in the match of the weekend Tony Urquhart 31 def Aaron Cedelland 29 in a game worthy of being on TV with both players playing crackerjack bowls. Bowls will continue this week at Nambucca Heads with club selected triples on Wednesday starting at 1pm, nominated 4’s starting at 1pm on Friday with visitors welcome and the 3rd round and semi finals of the major singles to be played Saturday at 9.30am and 1pm respectively and the final to be played on Sunday at 1pm and Sunday morning club selected triples starting at 10.30am.

Simone Jordan announced as Volunteer of the Year Finalist By David WIGLEY
SIMONE Jordan from Nambucca Strikers Football Club was announced as a finalist for Volunteer of the Year for Female Football Week by Northern NSW Football. Nominations for the award poured in from Tweed Heads in the north down to Newcastle in the south. Simone was honoured to be named one of the three finalists in a large region which consists of hundreds of football clubs. “I was really honoured to be announced as a finalist, I know many volunteers are working really hard at promoting female football and it is great to be a part of this and to be recognised for my contribution. “I have a lot of support from the Nambucca Strikers Club, committee, members and supporters. “Female Football Week is a great initiative in supporting and highlighting girls and women in sport, we had such a positive response from the FFW event and wonderful
feedback from our members, junior girls and senior women players, everyone was able to connect and enjoy playing and supporting one another in a game we all love. “There was just as much talking and socialising on the field as there was football, it was really inspiring to see the connections and everyone so happy,” said Simone. Nambucca Strikers Club Secretary Keily Chase explained the extent of how Simone helps the football club. “Simone runs our Kick On for women program on Monday nights, which is for women who just want to have a go at football. “She had the opportunity to be paid, but waived it to make the fees cheaper so she could attract more women to join her. “She felt like she shouldn’t be paid for something she loves to do which will encourage more women to join in playing football. “She is on our committee as a women’s delegate and she is also a social director for the over 30s women's team,” Keily said. Apart from her skills as a volunteer, Simone is also quite the football player.
q Nambucca Strikers FC celebrating Female Football Week.
“She is an incredible midfielder and is so versatile, you can put her anywhere on the field and she will give it 110% and do it with a smile on her face. “She also helps train our under 6’s, she is fabulous with kids and has this way of getting on their level and helping them understand football and the fun of it. “She held an incredible night to celebrate Female Football Week where she got volunteers to run mini games, a BBQ and her mum made cupcakes with sunflowers. “The night was a great success and we’ve had great
feedback from all the girls and women that participated. Simone also played an integral role in organising the Club’s Indigenous Round celebrations, complete with a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. “Simone is an allrounder, she is a Mother, wife, teacher, player, social director, delegate events organiser and a volunteer but most of all she is humble. “She is a true Striker through and through and everyone at our club is so thankful to have her,” said Keily.

After three days of doubles and singles squash the North Coast finished in fourth position in both the boys and girls team event. Col Hocking, a school teacher at Nambucca High School has been managing the North Coast’s High School squash team for five years. “We played over three days in doubles and singles squash and the girls and boys teams

First runner up was Mick O'Brien with Tony Adams coming in second runner up. Straight shooter Max Graham won both nearest the pins. Only us oldies would remember that the winners prize used to be a frozen chook (chicken) Saturday was a single stableford sponsored by Webb's BP. Winner was Brad Fortescue with Steve Ellis runner up. Nearest the pins were Brad 40 in A grade, no straight shooters in B's and C Spear in C grade. Extra nearest the pins Jake Simpson, Don Forrester and Shane O'Neill.

both finished fourth. “Sam Moriz from Coffs Harbour and sisters Elle and Bray Thornhill from Dorrigo were selected for the state team and will represent New South Wales in the interstate teams event and compete against New Zealand in the 2021 Tasman challenge. “This competition is a good pathway into the state combined High School Team and the national team,” said Col. Col has been playing A grade squash at Nambucca Heads Squash Club for over twenty years and has been the club champion on several
occasions. Col commented about the history and emerging talent at the Nambucca Squash Club. “We’ve had many players from Nambucca make the state and national teams in the past and although we didn’t have any Nambucca players this year we have several juniors coming through the ranks who are in years five or six of Primary School and who are just too young for this event. “In a couple of years time they will be competing in this event and pushing for spots on the New South Wales team,” said Col.

News Of The Area caught up with Paul Habgood at the first tee as the resident PGA professional was in full swing. Paul’s daughter Darcy is on a golf scholarship at Washington State University and returned home when the pandemic struck to continue her studies online in Nambucca whilst playing golf. “Darcy had to return to Australia with the onset of the Coronavirus, where she kept up with her studies via correspondence. “Darcy had to undergo a minor knee surgery earlier this year and returned to competition golf last week, she placed 12th, with an unfortunate finish to her first 9 holes,” said Jonathan.
Golf in Full Swing at Nambucca Heads Island Golf to the golf community. “The Shield was created in honour of Brian who was a multiple Club Champion, Division One Pennant Team member and foursomes champion at both Nambucca and Macksville. “He was a true gentleman of the game and helped many juniors develop their golfing skills and demeanour. “The Shield’s purpose is to foster greater camaraderie between the two Clubs. “Round one was played at Nambucca on Thursday 17 and round two was played at Macksville on Saturday 19,” said Jonathan.

DESPICABLE ME 2
GO!, 7.30pm
By the time they made the sequel, the folks behind Despicable Me had clearly realised the goldmine they had in the Minions, so they’ve got an expanded role here, which should please fans of their madcap mischief. One-time supervillain turned super dad Gru (voiced by Steve Carell, above) is back, and this time he’s fighting evil, not masterminding it. Every bit as enjoyable as the original.
What could go wrong when five comedians compete in an off-the-wall game show? Well, as it turns out, nothing. Everything goes spectacularly, hilariously well in Taskmaster. A huge success in Britain, the panel show panel boasting some very batty banter has since spawned offshoots in Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Finland and New Zealand. Hosted by Greg Davies (right) and Alex Horne, it’s the sort of show that can make Monday a joyous affair. Tonight, settle in for a raucous double episode. In “This Is Trevor”, The Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas grapples with awkward hand-wear. Then, in “Aquatic Sewing Machine”, coffee pots aren’t his friend.
WOULD I LIE TO YOU?
ABC TV PLUS, 8.30pm
A person’s ability to nonchalantly spin lies isn’t usually a source of pride or honour, but the tables are turned in this cheerfully silly game show. Those who are skilled at telling fibs score the points, as two teams compete to see who can pull the wool over the other team’s eyes. Everything from facial expressions, to hand movements and the veracity of the story are under the microscope as host Rob Brydon (above) plays mediator. Tonight, the celebrity guests who are hoping to forge their way to victory are radio presenter Maya Jama, comedian and actor Roisin Conaty, TV personality Roman Kemp and kids’ show host and doctor Dr Xand van Tulleken. 0207

GOLF is in full swing at Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club as Pennants returned following last year's COVID-19 hiatus. General Manager, Jonathan Zirkler provided News Of The Area with a summary of what’s been happening at the picturesque Golf Club on the Nambucca River. “Due to Covid last year no Pennants were run on the Mid North Coast in a region which stretches from Kempsey in the South to Grafton in the North and out to Dorrigo in the west. “Each level of Pennants is based on Handicap levels and this is the first time the club has had two teams for a number of years,” said Jonathan. The Club played in the inaugural Brian Burns Memorial Shield against Macksville which is a social competition to commemorate their former club champion’s contribution
q Paul Habgood, Nambucca Island Golf Club’s Resident PGA Professional on the picturesque first tee.
