The life-saving machine was funded by the NSW Government, MidCoast Council and Tea Gardens Real Estate. At the launch last week, the Red Cross’s Kylie Ledger demonstrated how easy the Defibrillator can be activated in cases of cardiac arrest. By Margie TIERNEY THE controversial Yellowtail Fish Farm trial in the waters off Hawks Nest has ended, more than two years ahead of schedule. The joint venture, between the NSW Government and Huon Aquaculture, to breed Yellowtail Kingfish in pens was scheduled to run for five years. 12 months ago, two sea cages were damaged in heavy seas, one pen losing an estimated 20 thousand fish. A spokesperson for Huon Aquaculture told News Of The Area, “The trial allowed us to test the marine infrastructure at one of the most exposed aquaculture sites in the world.” “Overall, we have shown that if the pens are maintained properly, they can withstand extremely high-energy conditions.” Following the 2018 incident there were claims that the pens had been poorly maintained allowing barnacles to form on the pens. This week Huon said, “As a result of the trial, some minor modifications have been made to the pen and netting design that will further improve the performance of the

Tenants will be able to end their tenancy immediately and without penalty in circumstances of domestic violence. A tenant will also not be liable for any property damage to a property caused by the domestic violence. A tenant will now be entitled to end a residential tenancy agreement at any time by providing the landlord or their agent, with a Domestic Violence Termination Notice. The Domestic Violence Termination Notice must attach one of the following forms of evidence:
- Certificate of conviction for the domestic violence offence; - Family law injunction; - Provisional, interim or final Domestic Violence Order; or - Declaration made by a medical practitioner in the form prescribed by the Residential Tenancies Regulation 2010. Landlords and agents will also be prohibited from blacklisting a tenant on a tenancy database if they end a tenancy in circumstances of domestic violence. Whilst the amendments are a positive change from a public policy perspective and the intention of the amendments is admirable, the practical implications remain to be seen and the amendments could be abused to the detriment of landlords.

Tea Gardens Library that the latest data research has confirmed that MidCoast Council Libraries are among the State’s top performers. MidCoast Libraries are ranked tenth for items loaned per residents, ninth for loans per item in the collection and second for loans per staff member. At 37 years of age, Rob swapped his busy modern Sydney legal practice to become the second most senior official on the Pacific Island. What followed was an experience steeped in tribal loyalties, myth and magic, with Rob and his family living and working in an isolated and somewhat primitive world. Rob Anderson said “I was overwhelmed by the large number of friends and family who attended the book launch and the encouragement and enthusiasm on the night.” In fact every copy of ‘Lawyer on the Paradise’ sold out on the night. “We’ve had to do a second print run,” Rob’s wife Lee Anderson said. Rob’s book will be available at the Galleries in the Gardens on Marine Drive within the next few weeks.

MIDCOAST Council will commission a new cost-benefit analysis on the Biripi Way project following a resolution at last week’s Council meeting. At Wednesday’s ordinary Council meeting a report on the financing of the project to consolidate administrative functions in Taree and Forster to a single location was considered. This followed the draft financing strategy for the $20 million head office relocation being placed on public exhibition for a six week period, during NovemberDecember 2018, to allow the community to provide input regarding the proposed methodology for funding the project. The report provided Councillors with information on the outcome of the community consultation, a peer review of the draft financing strategy and the probity advisor’s report.

Preseason training under way By Neil REYNOLDS MYALL River Junior Rugby League will hold sign up days from 5:30pm on 21 February and 21 March at Myall Park. The Club has nominated teams in 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 17 year age groups. Age groups may change according to player interest, with the 17’s the only confirmed side to date. Competition will start April 6th, with the possibility of trials in the lead up weeks. With the assistance of the Tea Gardens Country Club, [major sponsors] and the Monday night raffles at the Tea Gardens Hotel, rego costs will remain at $100 this season. The fee includes player insurance, player shorts and sox, player dress shirt and

training singlet, and player jersey at the end of the season. Although primarily based at Myall Park and supported by local sponsorship, the Myall River Juniors charter includes Karuah and Bulahdelah. Players, coaches, team managers, supporters and sponsors from all areas are invited to participate in the Club. The Tea Gardens Hawks have begun preseason training in preparation for 2019. Trent Murphy will continue as Coach, supported by Ryan Saunders, Saunders has championed the early training sessions. will play their 100th [plus] games throughout the season. Nic Lagudi, who joined the Club in 2010, and also coached Myall River Juniors side to a premiership, will be the 3rd life member. The Lady Hawks will play in the league tag competition in 2019. A number of players will back up from a successful 2018 end of season tackle completion. Combined with players from last year’s tag side and a sprinkling of new players, the lady’s are expected to field a competitive side. Maria Duroux will continue as coach. The girls have been part of Ryan Saunders fitness sessions, and will be stronger for their efforts. First round of competition will be April 6th, with trials being arranged from 9 March.

TUESDAY 12th Feb: The Provisional Pennants teams for 2019 was announced. This season there will be 1 Grade 2 side and 2 Grade 4 sides competing from TGWBC. Since a large number of bowlers were present that have been (provisionally) selected for Pennants the Match Committee opted to give these teams the opportunity to bowl together. Format for play was 2 games of Fours and a game of Triples, only 16 ends bowled due to the weather conditions. Robyn Beaumont, Bev Rhodes, Lynne Green and
Keira’s tally for the weekend, three gold and two silver. Her proud dad John McGregor said, “Keira won the 100m in record time as well as winning gold in the 200m and the long jump.” The two silver, came in the triple jump and relay. “The Triple was gained in one single jump out of six allowed, as she left to prepare for the 200m final,” John said. For anyone not familiar with the schedules of athletics competitions it can be confusing with two major Athletics competitions vying for bragging rights. Keira’s success at the Little Athletes Regionals will see her head to the Little Athletes New South Wales State Championships in Sydney in March to compete in all four of her personal best events. This weekend however it’s the NSW Athletics State championships, we wish her well.
Kayelene Pearson had a ‘neck to neck’ battle against Sandra Leisemann, Robyn Webster, Lorraine Murphy and Maynie Roberts. The final result a draw 10 all. Lyn Nightingale, Jill McBride and Judy McGavock had a 6 shot lead against Ingrid Luck, Deyonne Page and Liz Kelly at the completion of the 4th end. But Liz’s team made a comeback, gaining a one shot lead by the 10th end. Unfortunately this was short lived, Judy’s team winning 16 v 13. Another close contest on Rink 4, Jean Glover, Lynda Richards, Karen McPhie and Dale Winter v Jan Coomer, Jeanette Emmett, Bette Saillard and Loretta Baker. The score, 10 all on the 11th end. Dale’s team managed to claim victory 15 v 11. The low scores in all games show how tight the bowling was by all teams. The winners on the day, 4 for a win plus ends were Jean, Lynda, Karen and Dale. The raffle winner was Lorraine Murphy, thanks to
the Myall Bistro and Café for donating the raffle prize. Thursday 14th February: Once again Kayelene Pearson held a coaching session for the Pennant teams, then we divided into teams and played 6 ends, no scoring. During this time Liv Everingham and Jo Younghusband enjoyed a friendly Pairs game against Carol Hayden and Jan Kuzmic. The winners here were Carol and Jan by a substantial margin. Congratulations to Lynda Richards, Karen McPhie and Lynne Green for being Runners Up at the Invitation Triples Day sponsored by East Maitland Bowling Club on the 11th February. On the 5th February, club President Robyn Webster presented a 10 year loyalty badge (member NSWWBA) to Christine Fossey and to Jo Younghusband a 40 year loyalty badge. 13 FEBRUARY: The weather was kind today, with a nice southerly blowing, allowing competitors in the Wednesday Nominated Triples competition to play a full 21 ends. Forty-four players faced the starter with the winning teams from both the grass and the synthetic greens taking part in a draw for the
money. Garry Porter, Ron Green and Brian Emmett were successful on the synthetic, whilst a countback was needed to determine the winners on the grass. It was a fours team of John Payne, Graham Kelly, Lance Atkins and Greg Pearson who landed the prize. There was a welcome visit from “Mavis” today with an update on some of the rules of bowls.
No problems for Graeme Watkins though, he came up with the correct answers to earn himself a beer. 16 February: The Club Minor Singles competition commenced today with two games being played to trim the field to 16 competitors. Doug Andrews played Gary Wynne and Col Saillard played Graeme Watkins. Doug has been a bit of a “dark horse’ and it was anyone’s guess how he would go against Gary who
has showed good form in the Club Fours and the Club Minor Pairs. Gary’s recent form went out the window with Doug in complete command for the whole game. He ran away with it 31-13. Impressive! In the remaining game Graeme just could not get into the game as Col powered through winning 31-8. Sixteen teams will line up next Saturday, 23 February, with some games in the
morning and some in the afternoon. There are some really good players entered for this event and no clear favourite has emerged making for some close, entertaining bowls. 17 February: Twentyfour bowlers turned out today, resplendent in new club colours, for the first of some Pennant trials. It is great to see plenty of new faces representing our Club for a 2019 season.
