over 20 years. West Lincoln council accepted the offer at special meeting on Monday. The agreement calls for about $460,000 to be

Robbery suspects nabbed in the act Niagara Regional Police caught three-offour robbers in the act at Real Canadian Superstore Tuesday evening. Officers attended in response to a â€œtheft in

progressâ€? call involving multiple suspects. Loss Prevention Officers reported that two women and two men entered the retail establishment and attended the electron-

ics section. One man was observed on video surveillance bending down and attempting to forcefully open a locked compartment within the store. The three other suspects stood watch as the man made several attempts to force the door of the locked compartment. The man was unable to gain access to the locked the compartment prompting the suspects to separate and attend other areas of the store, concealing items along their path. One of the male suspects and one of the female suspects attempted to exit the store with the stolen merchandise without paying. The suspects were confronted by police as they exited. The female suspect was placed under arrest while the male suspect was able evade police

and flee in a vehicle. Moments later, the remaining male and female suspects were arrested as they attempted to exit the store. The suspects were charged with theft under $5000. Police are requesting the assistance of the public to locate the fourth person involved in this incident. Dustin Johnston, 27, of Hamilton is wanted by the NRPS for one count of Theft Under $5,000. Johnston fled the scene in a blue 2005 Mazda 3 bearing a New Brunswick license plate NDJ238. Johnston is wanted by several police services and is believed to be armed with a handgun. Members of the public should not approach Johnston. Police request that anyone with information call NRPS at 905688-4111 ext. 5400.

BEACH From Page 8 then the children’s favourite, the merry-go-round. Before the 1910 season opened, Albert Moore built an amazing building, the very first movie theatre most locals had ever seen; tickets were a nickel, and they sold like hotcakes. On the west side of the street, those walking down from the railway station would see a covered merry-goround, then the booth housing the Electric Lady who would give brave folks a shock with her magic electric wand. Next was the fish pond, always a favourite stop for the children, then a photo booth, a souvenir shop and a restaurant. With its Electric Lady and photo booth, Grimsby Beach was really in touch with the latest technology of the day! J.H. Ford, photographer, had come to Grimsby Park from Toronto in 1888. He built his own cottage, and added an adjacent studio where he did portraits in oil, crayon, India ink, water colours and even innovative photography. Wherever there were people at Grimsby Park and Grimsby Beach. J.H. Ford could be found with his camera. Many of the best photos of those early years were taken by him, including group photos of Sunday School and company picnics. The midway lasted until the 1920s. Then Grand Avenue became quiet again, just a short, stately street lined with huge poplar trees. There was quite a fuss later when the Town which by then included Grimsby Beach decided to cut down those trees “for safety reasons”. The street became busy again when Grand Avenue School was built in 1960 Grimsby Beach with its beautiful gingerbread cottages is loaded with history. No wonder visitors love to come to see it. Sometimes they may even hear the tinkle of the merry-goround music, or the zap of the Electric Lady’s magic wand.

Parker Neil of MCHF said that will come in handy for the 1,500 post-op patients they see each year. “When we talked about where to donate this year, some thought McMaster was too far, but that is where our kids go if they have issues, so it makes sense,” said event cochair Jeff Dancer. As well, FORT (Foundation of Resources for Teens) will also benefit. “The need is growing,” said FORT executive director Beth Shaw. “We have about 2,400 kids who come see us throughout the year, so we appreciate the support.” Grimsby’s Jennifer Johnston, who recently travelled to Mexico for treatment of a rate cancer, also recieved support. Firefighters will be out at their chosen sites starting 8 a.m. “We’re planning for great weather and no emergencies have been scheduled,” smiled co-chair Jim Bershoeff.

Emporer of Montreal disappeared in Pacific with no trace found of ship, crew

By Skip Gillham For NewsNow The Emperor of Montreal was a product of the Port Arthur shipyard in Port Arthur, ON. This latter community is now part of Thunder Bay and the ship was launched there on May 5, 1919. The new freighter was delivered to the Government of Canada as Canadian Trader on July 18, 1919, and cost $684,905. The 76.5 metre log cargo carrier was constructed to assist in the war effort but peace had been won by the time the ship was ready for service. It thus operated around coastal Canada and was managed by Canadian Trader Ltd. of Toronto on behalf of our government. The ship was sold to James Playfair in 1925 and renamed Emperor

Shipwreck of Montreal. It was then resold to Mrs. G. Scuderi of Scuderi Motors in 1927 and registered in Italy as Gilda Scuderi. The vessel was passed on to Japanese

interests in 1928 and headed for Kobe, Japan, late in the year. En route, the steamer loaded a cargo of scrap steel at Houston, TX and then put into to Seattle for fuel and repairs. It departed the Pacific Northwest on

Nov. 5, 1928, for the long trek to the Far East but was never seen again. The former Emperor of Montreal disappeared with all hands somewhere out in the Pacific after only 10 years of trading.

WL council actions questionable: reader Dear Editor, West Lincoln Council last night rendered some disappointing decisions and I wonder how this can be considered ethical actions by a government. (Or even legal?!) Money should never be allowed to buy a decision, yet last night, Council agreed to receive money while the wind power corporation was granted exemptions and more which will help them get their revenue generating project into operation sooner. West Lincoln just entered into a legally binding agreement with a wind power corporation to commit to specific conditions, which we have been told we will never know, and, in return, the wind power corporation has agreed to pay them $460,000 a year for 20 years.

Letter They also shockingly rolled out the red carpet allowing the wind power corporation and its hires exemption from the spring-time road half-load restriction and re-wrote our noise by-law for them. Seems we are seeing the behaviours already. I would expect to be brought up on criminal charges had I done this in private practice. As a person who has reported noise emissions and pulsating vibrations in our home together with a fairly consistently reported set of health issues, this is worse than disappointing. Council had all the right information to make an integral decision. One resident who

is surrounded by large wind turbines presented herself as a face of the suffering in West Lincoln. I hope this provides you with a glimpse into how the wind industry and some governments work. This is the tip of the iceberg of what
