Customers valued at Mountaineer Movers When Mountaineer Movers celebrated 41 years of business in 2019, the team looked back into its past to remind ourselves of the history the company has drawn from. In 1951, Harry Mans immigrate to Canada from Holland with his family. Harry’s first job was to work on the farm that sponsored them when they came to Canada. “As our family got older, Harry saw the need for his family to work together. The family started delivering mail routes, then a newspaper routes and soon flowers, as well, said co-owner Wendy Mans-Keddie. “One day Harry saw an advertisement for a moving business that was up for sale. After some careful deliberation, he purchased the business name Mountaineer Movers. Thus, the ‘family’ business began!” Their consideration of their customers is what sets them apart. “As a family, we understand and realize that moving can be one of the MOST stressful times in a person’s life,” said Wendy, who is now the company president and worked along side Harry for 47 years. “We strive to remember that we are servicing a wide variety of people and demographics and they are confronting a major change in their life. They are leaving a place they have called home for a new and unfamiliar place that will soon become their new haven.” Wendy’s husband Andrew, who has 40 years of experience, does all in-home estimates as well as Tom Ensign, an employee of several years. Their daughter Sarah oversees the office administration. “We would not be a moving company without out movers – our ‘guys’. These men make Mountaineer a continuing success. ,” noted Wendy. The company’s philosophy is simple, she noted, success is

Jerry’s Auto: serving customers for over five decades Alan Gerritsen’s father, Jerry, may have retired in 2011, but Alan is carrying on the family tradition of top quality work and service at Jerry’s Auto Body, which opened in 1969. Key to the operation’s success has been having a great team which has been together for many years. “My guys have been with us for a long time. They have a lot of experience and stay up to date on the changing technology and ways to repair the newer vehicles,” says Alan, who runs the business along with his wife, Michelle, who handles payroll and bookkeeping.

Lions Easter Egg Hunt Started From Small Beginnings The Beamsville & District Lions Club has carried on the annual tradition originated by the Kinsmen Club when they invited the community to join them so children could gather foilwrapped Easter eggs and possibly win prizes. And, like the Easter bunny, the event grew in leaps and bounds. The addition of hot chocolate and coffee was welcomed and Tim Hortons joined in the event to provide this free of charge to those in attendance. From there, Wendy’s joined in and donated two bicycles. The event now goes rain or shine and we have Smudge Fundaes of St. Catharines providing two shows this year; Beamsville Fire Department will bring in its fire

“Meaningful ways to boost participation in democracy often come from initiatives in small communities,” says author Dave Meslin. He is a renowned Toronto-based urbanist, community organizer, and author of the bestselling book Teardown: Rebuilding Democracy from the Ground Up. What’s the Big Idea, launched last year, is a moderated salon discussion, with a diverse line-up of guest speakers and topics meant to spark spirited debate and new ideas. In his recent talk, Meslin reflected
