Welcome to the 18th edition of Stockholm Design Week Each year Stockholm Design Week hosts more than 200 design events throughout the city. During the week, the city comes alive and is buzzing with an interest in design and innovation. New for this edition is the public access event 25h Design which will be held February 8-9. For 25 hours everyone with an interest in design can take part in inspiring happenings all over the city. Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 5-9, is the heart of and the platform for Stockholm Design Week. At the fair visitors can enjoy 70,000 sqm of innovative and sustainable Scandinavian design.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair introduce a new design prize called Born Classic, this in corporation with Bukowskis who is also jury. The prize goes to a designer or producer that has created a piece of furniture or lighting that has the qualities to become a future design classic. The winner will be announced on the stage for Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks at the fair on Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair’s public day.

High up above the rooftops, with a panoramic view over Stockholm, the exhibition snowtopped takes its inspiration from the flowing silhouettes of a winter landscape. An installation created by Tarkett in collaboration with Note Design Studio to showcase the possibilities of a material typically used as flooring – where dunes and snowdrifts in different sizes and shapes create an imaginative scene for the visitor to explore. 29

R–evolve at Volvo studio An exhibition curated by former Greenhouse exhibitor Stoft Studio and showcased by Volvo Studio. Dalí takes Stockholm to the next level

Young Swedish Design (Ung Svensk Form) at ArkDes

The largest European Salvador Dalí-exhibition will be in Stockholm Feb 5-18. The bronze sculptures The Persistence of Memory, Nobility of Time and Woman Aflame will be placed separately in Kungsträdgården, Brunkebergstorg and Norrmalmstorg. Another 25 amazing Dalí-sculptures can be seen at Antikmässan February 14-17 at Stockholmsmässan. The exhibition is a unique cooperation between Antikmässan, Stockholms stad and Mollbrinks Konst.

Discover the most intriguing new designs from Sweden’s young creatives. Young Swedish Design displays unique pieces from a range of disciplines. Young Swedish Design 2019 is a co-production between ArkDes and Svensk Form. An ongoing event from February 5 to March 31.

Portal Bar

Portal Bar is the newly opened “mischievous younger sibling” to the well-established Portal Restaurant next door (awarded Best Stockholm Restaurant of the Year, 2016). Owned and managed by Klas Lindberg, Swedish Chef of the Year winner 2012. The name stems from the characteristic portal, in the centre of the historic building, which leads pedestrians from the busy S:t Eriksplan, via stairs, to the calm residential Atlas district below and behind. holm-based architects Claesson Koivisto Rune to design the interior architecture for Portal Bar. The ambience should contrast to the blond and bright interior of the portal Restaurant and a midnight blue, Swedish limestone, oak and copper concept was adopted. The space in the words of the architects: “Much thought has gone into creating a contained spatial flow and unity in what used to be two different shops with closed back storages. First, the windows were cleared so that the space fully takes in the panorama from the public square and park outside. Then the interior was opened up all the way to the back so that parallel sightlines run through the ascending levels of the bar space, via an intermediate smaller dining area and a larger back dining hall that doubles as a chambre separée. Bar Basso is the famous late-night hangout for all the star designers of the world and their entourage during the Milan Design Week in April every year.

At the studio’s core lies a process that blends nuanced design sensibilities with dynamic strategic methods. The central intention is to evolve with the needs of each project, its place in the market, and the ever-changing needs of real people.

The exhibition is a joint project by the designers Mia Cullin & Anki Gneib, Nola and the floral scenography designer Claes Carlsson. A close collaboration between the designers, producer and floral designer that may be likened to cross-pollination. Avknoppningar is a further development of Gneib and Cullin’s acclaimed planters Cacti and Gro, now developed into a family of trellises, bird tables, vases and sculpture designs. Growth is a recurring theme in the exhibition where strict graphic design meets organic unrestraint in unexpected expressions. Plant supplier: Skalleberg Handelsträdgård.

Iittala at Stockholm Design Week. Raami is a newly launched dining collection designed by Jasper Morrison for Iittala. Composed by elements in glass, ceramic and wood, the versatility of the collection provides pleasant settings for any time of the day – a good atmosphere for every occasion. At the Wetterling Gallery in Stockholm, from the 5th to 8th of February, Iittala will present an exhibition that will highlight the philosophy of the new collection. Through “Creating Atmospheres”, Iittala addresses the concept of eating as form, interpreting the notion as both shape and as behaviour. For Iittala, design is a human issue. A model of ecological kitchens The Miinus kitchen has been built ecologically and adheres to a philosophy of 3R – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Based on indoor air measurements and carbon footprint calculations, we identified at an early stage, materials required to reduce a kitchen’s environmental impact. We redesigned our kitchens, made them lighter and more ecological to transport. The materials chosen for our Miinus range, together with non-toxic manufacturing methods, ensure a pure, safe kitchen for day-to-day living. The Miinus kitchen emits less than half the limit values specified for M1, the top indoor air rating. All Miinus kitchen materials are re-usable and recyclable.

High up above the rooftops, with a panoramic view over Stockholm, the exhibition Snowtopped takes its inspiration from the flowing silhouettes of a winter landscape. An installation created by Tarkett in collaboration with Note Design Studio to showcase the possibilities of a material typically used as flooring – where dunes and snowdrifts in different sizes and shapes create an imaginative scene for the visitor to explore.
