ponsored by On Native Ground, the Sacramento World Music & Dance Festival’s spotlight will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Native Americans. Kicking off the festival, Spotlight On: Native America will feature various members of Native American communities showcasing the diverse cultural facets of Native Americans. Headlining Spotlight On: Native America is Edward Madril, a member of the Pascua Yaqui tribe of Southern Arizona and Northern Sonora Mexico. He is an active member of the Native American community and advocates for Native American culture as a dancer, singer, teacher, playwright and filmmaker. Madril previously taught Native American music at San Francisco State University and is a previous recipient of the California Arts Council Arts-In-Residence grant. Madril has performed throughout the Western United States as a dancer and performer for the last 20 years. Spotlight On: Native America is free and begins Saturday at 6 p.m. on the Waterfront Stage in Old Sacramento on Front Street between L and K streets. For more information, visit www.sacworldfest.org.
