he Farm City Celebration Committee and all of agriculture would like to thank you for joining us in celebrating agriculture! The Farm City Celebration is a collaborative effort by many organizations, businesses and individuals who value agriculture and are committed to promoting positive relationships between members of the agricultural and urban communities. Helping the urban community to understand the activities and importance of agriculture is vital to our agricultural life. Our goal is to strengthen the relationship between the agricultural and urban communities by increased education about agriculture while addressing the urban community’s concerns and desires. We would like to thank all the businesses who have supported the Farm City Celebration over the years. With your financial support, we are able to bring together the urban community and the agricultural community to foster a deeper understanding of the issues between farm and city through all the events that we present. Our Farm City Celebration originated in 1979 when the local chapter of California Women for Agriculture did a “tasting” of local products inside a bank in Chico. Through the years we have added various events, several of which are on the calendar this year. The events this year are made possible through all the partners involved, including CWA, Butte County Farm Bureau, Butte County Ag Commissioner, UC Cooperative Extension, Butte County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen, Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park, and the agriculture programs of CSU Chico and Butte College; plus countless volunteers. We have some wonderful events this year, including the 9th Annual Harvest Festival. The Harvest Festival will be held at the Bidwell Mansion on Saturday, November 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free family fun event has

something for everyone at the home of Chico’s first farmer, John Bidwell. Please join us for a day of fun and some agricultural education! Other events this year include Kids’ Day on the Farm, the popular 5-stop Agricultural Bus Tour, and the Farm City Restaurant Program. Please see our website for more information. As we observe 33 years of the “Farm City Celebration,” the committee hopes that the events this year are enjoyed by all and that through our efforts to bring the “farm” to the “city” we are truly able to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of agriculture to all in our community and worldwide!

Harvest Festival Sat., November 2nd, 10am–2pm T
he Harvest Festival is a FREE-forthe-whole-family, rain-or-shine event and has fun agricultural-related, handson activities, food and lots more.We are truly bringing the farm to the city for this community agriculture day. There will be tractors on display, 4-H, FFA, cattle roping, stock-dog demonstrations, cow milking, bees, Boy Scout Rope Bridge and so much more. Madison Bear Garden will be on site to BBQ for a special event price. We are so privileged to have the Harvest Festival on the grounds of the Historic Bidwell Mansion. During the event, visitors can browse through the first floor of the Bidwell Mansion! Staff and volunteers will be there to answer questions, asking a donation.The Visitor Center-including “The General’s Store” gift shop, exhibit hall and bathrooms-will be open. In addition, the Carriage House will be open, displaying historic carriages and wagons.

A FREE family fun event with more than 20 fun agricultural-related activities, food and lots more. Kid’s Day at the CSU, Chico University Farm Thursday, November 7th PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED California State University, Chico University Farm, Hegan Lane, Chico Local 3rd graders rotate through eight stations, learning about different areas of agriculture in a fun interactive way.The classes learn about many of our top crops, including rice, beef and walnuts. The California Farm Water Coalition teaches about the importance of water to all of us. At another station, the kids learn all the ag products that are needed to make a pizza, then they get a sample piece of pizza. Definitely a highlight!
