about one city marathon Since its launch in 2015, the Newport News One City Marathon has grown from a city tradition into a regional and national destination event, attracting runners and families from across the country. Known throughout the running community for its flat, fast, and festive course, OCM is one of the premier marathons in the Mid-Atlantic. As a Boston Marathon qualifying race, it consistently ranks among the top events on the East Coast, with one of the nation’s highest percentages of Boston-qualifying finishers. Marathon Weekend | Signature Events The Races Runners are cheered on throughout the race by area residents, businesses, and schools. They quench their thirst at volunteer-manned water stations positioned along the course.
One City Marathon presented by Newport News Shipbuilding Runners begin their journey in the stunning setting of Newport News Park where they enjoy the allure of spring in a landscape as historical as it is beautiful. From there, the next 26.2 miles will include the very best Newport News has to offer, finishing, and fittingly so, at the Newport News Victory Arch. The One City Marathon is a flat, fast, point to point course and a Boston Qualifier.

BayPort Credit Union Half Marathon The BayPort Credit Union One City Half Marathon is the latest addition to the One City Marathon. Runners will begin their journey at Menchville High School and run the final miles alongside the James River before crossing the finish line. The BayPort Credit Union One City Half Marathon is a flat, fast, point to point course and the perfect distance for a runner looking for a challenge.
Maritime 5K presented by Sentara Health The Maritime 5K takes place at City Center Saturday morning of the event weekend. Located in Central Newport News, runners will experience the heart of the city’s retail and business district. An extremely flat course, outand-back route is sure to deliver fast times and happy runners.
Nautical Mile presented by Ferguson A family favorite, with the Nautical Mile, kids (both young and old) can dash one nautical mile (1.15 mi) through the streets of City Center at Oyster Point.
