NNS Achieves ISO 14001 Re-Certification 12 | 7 | 2015
November 2015 marked the successful completion of Newport News Shipbuilding’s fourth ISO 14001 environmental certification renewal. The certification is the international gold standard and is reserved for companies that demonstrate outstanding environmental stewardship. NNS originally obtained this certification in late 2003 and has successfully renewed its certification every three years.

“This is truly a celebration of the hard work we have done in the past years,” said Dwain Jenkins Jr., environmental engineer. “Thanks to each of you who continue to contribute, develop, and implement our Environmental Management System (EMS). Our company’s environmental policy states we are committed to stop pollution, obey rules, always improve and reduce waste (SOAR). And, once again you have demonstrated that together we can SOAR.”

NNS Kicks-Off Annual Holiday Food Drive Newport News Shipbuilding’s annual “Shipbuilders... Caring and Sharing” Holiday Food Drive to benefit the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank (VPF) kicked off today and will run through Friday, Dec. 18.
Labeled collection boxes have been placed inside designated NNS buildings (first floor locations only), warehouses and at piers, docks and trailers. Food drive boxes will not be placed outside of doors or at gates.
The purpose of the drive is to assist the foodbank in meeting the needs of the local community this holiday season. VPF serves the areas of Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Matthews, Gloucester, York, James City, Surry and Poquoson.
The Foodbank accepts all non-perishable food donations (no glass containers). Canned items most needed include: meat, fish and protein (tuna, ham or chicken, beef stew, chili, peanut butter, canned/dried beans); fruits and vegetables (100 percent fruit juice... CONTINUED ON PG 3
Environmental Engineering Manager Steve Brinkman added, “Throughout the years and during auditing periods, NNS employees and contractors rise above the call of duty to SOAR in each of our tasks, which attributed to retaining this recertification. This is a team effort, but it was the high level of commitment from each individual that allowed us to achieve this goal. Thank you all for what you do.
