TIMBER FRAMING

New Energy Works is made up of over 70 designers, timberwrights, engineers, craftspeople, and community members. Together, we design and build some of the most lyrical and efficient custom wood structures in the industry using reclaimed & sustainably harvested timbers, environmentally responsible practices, and state-ofthe-art technology.

Our clientele of architects, builders, and homeowners hail from all over North America. We build these relationships from our shops in New York and Oregon, along with a handful of trusted partners.

No matter how long we do this, we’re still moved by the sight of a naked frame against the sky.

Our engineers are collaborative in nature. They’re able to incorporate heavy timber into current projects, those already in planning, or if your project is still a dream. Together we work alongside architects, builders, and owners. Our goal is to create a beautiful timber frame that highlights volumes while becoming an element unique to your project.

Our work is eclectic, including: homes, outdoor spaces, party and working barns, commercial buildings, and public spaces across North America. Our team is flexible; we enjoy presenting new approaches and working through a complicated frame as we estimate. Our timberwrights are experienced craftsmen whose passion is matched only by the skill in each project they create.

We send the same craftsmen who cut the frame to raise it. After nearly 30 years in the business, this model hasn’t failed us or our clients.

Our clients are as diverse as their locations. Their common thread is the love of fine wood, elegant design, and quality craft.

NEWwoodworks is our fine woodworking group born out of a need to support our architectural and timber frame clients. They’ve been creating custom cabinetry, furniture, doors, and other fine woodwork for over two decades. These artisans combine skilled hands, digital technology, and good-old-fashioned creativity to craft custom pieces for homes, businesses, and retail.

Our wood artists are able to seamlessly create a special door, built-in, staircase, or other personalized piece that perfectly fits in your project. They like a challenge; in their world the more creative, the more difficult, the better.

With access to our sister company Pioneer Millworks’ large inventory of reclaimed and sustainably harvested timbers, either structural or decorative, we’re able to create your vision. Custom surface treatments include planed, sandblasted, rough-sawn, hand-hewn, wire-brushed, shou sugi ban, and more. Antique timbers often include mortise pockets, tenons, peg holes, insect marks, and knots in addition to their original handhewn surfaces. Plus, Pioneer Millworks has FSCcertified fresh-sawn Douglas fir timbers as well.
