NEW MILFORD, CT Certified Organic Fort Hill Farm is a family-run, certified organic farm growing in the heart of New Milford, CT. Farmers use growing systems that are based on time-honored, ecologically sound agricultural principles that build healthy soils, such as composting, crop rotation, and the addition of rock mineral powders. ROXBURY, CT
Certified Organic
A farming history that dates back to colonial times, the Riverbank has passed through the hands of four different families who have raised crops and milked cows on the land. Riverbank Farm, located in Roxbury, grows a diversity of certified organic vegetables and cut flowers. Nourished by the fertile bottomland soil of the Shepaug River, the farm uses no herbicides, synthetic fertilizers or synthetic pesticides. David Blyn founded Riverbank Farm thirty years ago. He was drawn to the landscape and river bordering the farm and decided to call it home. As David began to work on the barn, he also decided to grow a half acre of vegetables. The half acre increased each year until David began farming full time in 1991. In the summer of 1996, while delivering produce during a full moon in Long Island, David met Laura. Their love for farming and each other blossomed into a bountiful farm. David and Laura believe that once you eat vegetables from the farm, the farm becomes part of you. Together they have learned to build a resilient farming operation and truly enjoy the harvest. They now have three children, Lily, Alice, and Stella, who add love and laughter to each farm day.

Hidden Gem Orchard follows Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, using select organic pest control products when appropriate. Pest management decisions are guided by recommendations from Cornell University’s NEWA (Network for Environment and Weather Applications), which uses weather and environmental models to predict infection periods and pest activity. This data-driven approach allows the orchard to spray only when necessary, significantly limiting pesticide use. Spraying also stops well in advance of harvest, as most insect and disease pressures occur in spring and early summer. The result is thoughtfully grown fruit with a focus on sustainability, flavor, and preservation of apple-growing heritage. You can find Hidden Gem Orchard apples at local farmers’ markets and select grocers, including New Morning Market.

It all started with 8 dahlia tubers. When Alison moved back to her home state from Rhode Island seven years ago she knew she wanted a garden. With her husband Greg’s (and number one farm hand) assistance, they created a small flower garden that included 8 dahlia plants. Every year since the garden has grown with Alison asking Greg to help dig more rows. It now has close to 400 dahlias. Four years ago it officially became Cliffside Dahlias. The name pays homage to our furry farm hand Cliff. Our energetic pup who is always by our sides in the garden. The dahlia garden buzzes with happy bumblebees, butterflies and many other insects that like to try to snack on the beautiful dahlias.. To naturally prevent any damage to the blooms; Alison has implemented daily integrative pest management without use of any harmful chemicals or pesticides. Whether it’s hand picking asiatic beetles off the dahlia leaves at night by the light of a head lamp or releasing thousands of lady bugs to snack on aphids as well as using translucent bags over the flower buds to protect the growing blooms; it is all done without harming the environment. Our beautiful blooms are used by local florists and can be found directly at Cliffside Dahlias, farmers markets and at our favorite grocer; New Morning Market.
