![]()

As we close the first half of 2026, the historic peace agreement between the US and Iran marks a turning point for global stability. This breakthrough is expected to ease geopolitical tensions, stabilise oil prices, and boost global trade. For South Africa’s hardware retail sector, this could mean reduced import costs and improved supply chain reliability, particularly for petroleum-based products like paints, adhesives, and plastics.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, the focus should shift to leveraging these global developments. Retailers can expect increased consumer confidence and spending, creating opportunities to expand product offerings, and invest in growth.
Let’s embrace this moment of optimism and position our industry for a prosperous future.

One of the biggest advantages of joining a franchise group is that you are not starting from scratch. Franchisees benefit from established brands, national advertising, supplier relationships, training, operational support, and often improved resale value.

While approximately 70% of new SMEs in South Africa fail, franchise businesses significantly outperform independent startups, with failure rates estimated at around 10%.
However, a 10% failure rate still means one in every ten franchise businesses fail. Why does this happen when franchisees have access to proven systems and support?
The most common culprit is undercapitalisation. Many new franchisees underestimate the amount of working capital required to sustain operations, particularly during the first year before cash flow stabilises. It is essential to understand every cost involved and to have open, honest discussions with your franchisor about your available capital and financial limitations.
At TimBuild, for example, prospective franchisees receive access to budgets and cash flow projections that can be tailored to their specific store. Careful monitoring of income and expenses against budget, combined with timely corrective action, should be a primary focus for every new franchise owner. You need to project sufficient working capital for the first three years of business to ensure you can handle the volatile South African economy.
Another leading cause of failure is poor management. Many entrepreneurs underestimate the time and commitment required to operate a successful business. Absentee ownership — where the franchisee

expects someone else to run the business without active involvement — is consistently cited as a major reason for failure. While some franchise models allow for less direct supervision, the hardware industry is not one of them. Owners need a solid understanding of sales, purchasing, stock management, customer service, and financial controls. If you lack industry experience, choose a franchise that provides comprehensive training and ongoing support to bridge those knowledge gaps. Location selection is another critical factor. Opening in the wrong area or choosing a site simply because it is available can significantly limit your chances of success. Before signing a lease, work closely with your franchisor to ensure the site aligns with the business model, customer profile, and growth strategy. A strong location can accelerate success, while a poor one can become a constant obstacle.
As discussed in my December 2025 article, Location: The Cornerstone of Franchise Success, site choice remains one of the most important decisions a franchisee will ever make.
A surprisingly common mistake is a lack of due diligence. Prospective franchisees sometimes become excited by a brand without thoroughly researching the franchisor. Before committing, ask important questions. Does the franchisor have a refined and scalable concept? Is the support structure robust? Have you spoken to existing franchisees about their experiences? Ultimately, you are entering a long-term partnership, and understanding who you are partnering with is essential.
Often, new franchisees are tempted to save money by implementing a cheaper point-ofsale (POS) and stock management system than the one recommended by the franchisor. However, this is a common mistake that can undermine the very benefits of joining a franchise network. Franchisors recommend specific POS and stock control systems for a reason — they are designed to support the franchise model, ensure consistency across the network, and provide access to proven reporting and business analysis tools.
These systems form an integral part of the franchise package and play a critical role in helping franchisees effectively manage stock, monitor performance, analyse profitability, and make informed business decisions. Attempting to cut costs in this area often results in

provided by the franchisor.
Finally, some franchisees unintentionally lose the very advantage they paid for: the power of the brand and system. When entrepreneurs buy a franchise, they are investing in a proven model, established reputation, and recognised trademarks. Yet brand consistency can quickly become an afterthought. Franchisees who ignore corporate standards or create marketing that conflicts with the brand’s positioning dilute customer trust and damage the network holistically. Even in
markets, the corporate identity remains non-negotiable. Failure to comply with brand standards can result in contractual breaches and lost opportunities. Being part of a franchise gives entrepreneurs a valuable head start. The systems, support, and brand recognition provide a platform for success. Making full use of those advantages — and embracing the responsibility that comes with business ownership — is ultimately what separates thriving franchisees from those who struggle.

TANKS AND FILTRATION SYSTEMS
As water scarcity in South Africa continues to shape consumer behaviour, retailers have a significant opportunity to position tanks and filtration systems as essential household infrastructure for their customers.

South Africa’s ongoing water challenges have fundamentally shifted consumer attitudes toward water storage and treatment. What was once considered optional infrastructure has become a necessity for households and businesses alike, creating a robust and sustained market opportunity for DIY and hardware retailers.
The convergence of several factors is driving demand for tanks and filtration systems, such as aging infrastructure, which continues to compromise water quality. Moreover, growing environmental awareness has made rainwater harvesting increasingly attractive to consumers. For retailers, this represents more than a seasonal spike, it has the potential to be
a fundamental market shift. Customers are no longer asking whether they need water storage solutions; they are asking which systems best suit their specific requirements. This evolution in customer needs demands that retail staff be equipped with comprehensive product knowledge and the ability to guide customers through increasingly technical purchasing decisions.

The tanks and filtration systems category encompasses several distinct product segments, each with unique retail considerations.
Water storage tanks remain the cornerstone of the category. Polyethylene tanks dominate the market due to their durability, UV resistance, and competitive pricing. Retailers should stock a range of capacities – from 500-litre entry-level options suitable for small households to 5 000-litre and larger tanks for properties with greater demands. Steel tanks, while representing a smaller market share, appeal to customers seeking longevity and premium aesthetics, particularly in upmarket residential developments.
Rainwater harvesting systems have moved beyond basic collection to become sophisticated installations. Complete kits that include guttering, first-flush diverters, filters, and pumps offer retailers the opportunity to increase basket size while providing genuine customer value. These systems appeal particularly to environmentally conscious consumers and those looking to reduce municipal water dependency.
Filtration systems are the category’s highest-growth segment. Point-of-use filters for drinking water address immediate quality concerns, while whole-house systems appeal to customers dealing with persistent supply issues. Reverse osmosis units, UV purification systems, and multistage filters each serve different customer needs and price points.
Retailers should be prepared to explain the benefits of each technology and help customers match systems to their water quality challenges.
Bundling complete systems rather than selling tanks and accessories separately could lead to greater profitability.
Create pre-packaged system bundles at different price points – Starter, Standard, and Premium – that simplify decision-making while protecting margins. Display these as

complete units with clear ’everything you need’ messaging. Use checklists showing customers all required components for installation, and train staff to proactively ask “Do you have everything for installation?” rather than waiting for customers to discover missing items after checkout.
Unlike once-off purchases, water systems create ongoing customer relationships. Filter cartridges require replacement every six-12 months, tanks need periodic cleaning, and systems require upgrading as household needs evolve.
// What was once considered optional infrastructure has become a necessity for households and businesses alike, creating a robust and sustained market opportunity for DIY and hardware retailers //
Collect customer information at purchase and implement reminder systems (SMS, email, or WhatsApp) alerting them when filter replacements are due. Consider offering a ‘filter replacement club’ with modest discounts that lock in loyalty.
Stock maintenance products prominently and cross-reference them with original system purchases. This recurring revenue stream brings customers back to your store consistently rather than allowing competitors to capture after-sales business.
3
LEVERAGE INSTALLATION SERVICES AS A PROFIT CENTRE AND DIFFERENTIATOR
Many customers lack the confidence, tools, or time to install complex systems themselves. Installation services can add profitability to product sale values while differentiating your store from online-only competitors who cannot offer this convenience.
If hiring installation teams is not feasible, establish partnerships with reliable contractors and offer customers complete installation quotes at point of sale. Even a modest referral fee adds revenue while removing the customer’s biggest purchase barrier. This service-oriented approach builds trust and positions your store as a solutions provider, not merely a product stockist.

// Retailers can provide aftersales support to customers in the form of filter replacements, tank cleaning services, and system upgrades. This builds loyalty and will ensure customers return to your store instead of seeking alternatives //
4
Water quality issues are complex and intimidating for most customers. Retailers who provide genuine problem-solving support create loyalty that extends far beyond this category. Train staff on water quality basics, system design principles, and local water challenges specific to your region.
Offer free water testing services using simple pH test kits, with staff available to assist customers in assessing their water quality. Providing this service helps convert browsers into buyers while positioning your team as

trusted advisors. When customers rely on your expertise for water-related solutions, they are more likely to return for future DIY and building purchases. It also reinforces the value of technical knowledge, helping to justify premium pricing as customers are investing in both the product and the expertise behind it.
5
Effective merchandising is crucial in this technically complex category. Create dedicated water solutions zones allowing customers to visualise complete systems rather than viewing components in isolation. Display tanks prominently with associated products, positioned within reach of each item.
Use point-of-sale materials explaining system benefits, installation requirements, and maintenance needs. Consider system diagrams showing how components work together. Educational content has the potential to drive sales, consider investing in signage, brochures, or digital displays that position your store as the authoritative source for water solutions.
After-sales service and maintenance create ongoing customer relationships that competitors struggle to replicate. Filter replacements, tank cleaning services, and system upgrades ensure customers return to your store rather than exploring alternatives. Implement reminder systems that alert customers when maintenance is due. This proactive approach builds loyalty while driving consistent revenue.
The complexity of some systems creates natural upselling opportunities. A customer who installed a basic tank two years ago may now be ready for a pump upgrade, automated filtration system, or capacity expansion. Your relationship and understanding of their existing setup positions you perfectly to facilitate these enhancements.

Local manufacturing dominates the tank market, providing retailers with reliable supply and the ability to support the South African industry.
Maintain adequate stock of popular sizes and configurations (1000L, 2500L, and 5000L tanks are typically fastest moving) but develop clear customer communication for specialty items that are available by order only. Setting proper delivery expectations protects customer satisfaction while allowing you to access the full product range without excessive inventory investment. Consider drop-shipping arrangements with manufacturers for larger or less common tank sizes.
By treating tanks and filtration systems as essential infrastructure rather than hardware accessories, retailers can capture sustained growth in a market driven by necessity, environmental responsibility, and the fundamental human need for clean, reliable water access. The retailers who invest in this category now – with proper merchandising, staff training, and value-added services –can establish market leadership that delivers returns for years to come.

Routers and planers are cornerstone tools for woodworking. They offer the precision and efficiency needed for shaping, trimming, and finishing timber. As consumer demand for custom furniture, cabinetry, and home improvement projects continues to grow, these tools present a valuable opportunity for hardware retailers to expand their power tool offering with high-margin, specialist products.

Routers are among the most versatile tools in woodworking, used for edging, grooving, trimming, and decorative profiling. From compact trim routers suited to light-duty applications, to heavy-duty plunge routers designed for deeper, more controlled cuts, the category caters to woodworkers at all levels. Increasingly, cordless options are gaining traction, offering greater mobility without compromising on performance which has become a key selling point.
Planers are designed for material removal and surface preparation. Whether it is smoothing rough timber, reducing thickness, or ensuring a uniform finish, electric planers deliver speed and consistency that manual methods cannot match. Bench planers and thicknessers extend these capabilities further, appealing to more advanced users and workshop environments.
It is important for retailers to stock reputable brands and to understand the applications of these tools. It is of equal importance for retailers to stock the accessories that go with these tools. Router bits, guide rails, dust extraction solutions, and replacement blades are all critical components that enhance tool performance. Educating customers on these complementary products can significantly improve both customer satisfaction and overall sales.
As with many power tool categories, quality, durability, and after-sales support remain key decision factors. Retailers should prioritise brands that offer strong warranties, readily available spares, and demonstrable performance in demanding conditions.
This guide explores participating supplier products in this category, equipping retailers with the knowledge needed to better serve their customers and maximise sales in this specialised, yet highly rewarding segment.

Full-scale renovations are costly, disruptive, and time-consuming. To avoid these costs, Dulux has developed a comprehensive guide that will ensure your customers do not need to break walls or deal with construction dust to transform their home.

This piece explores how thoughtful paint choices, creative decor layering, and strategic styling updates can deliver meaningful results – with less disruption, less cost, and more creativity.
There is no need to break walls, deal with construction dust, or commit to a substantial budget to completely transform a home.
With carefully selected paint colours, creative decor layering, and a few strategic updates, a space can be revived in a way that feels meaningful and lasting. Every surface in a home presents an opportunity, customers just need to know where to look.
“A home doesn’t need to be completely rebuilt to feel completely renewed. Small,

intentional decisions – the right paint shade, layered lighting, meaningful accessories can shift how a room feels and functions. The beauty is in the simplicity of it,” says Palesa Ramaisa, Dulux colour expert.
Thoughtful decor layering adds depth and personality to a space without requiring major purchases. Natural textures like wood, leather, and woven baskets create visual interest, while soft textiles like throws, cushions and plush rugs invite comfort. Metallic accents in copper or brass bring subtle elegance, and indoor plants soften spaces while bringing them to life.
The key is working with what is already there. Suggest that customers rearrange cushions between rooms, restyle shelves with a mix of greenery and treasured objects or simply reposition furniture to highlight a feature wall. These small changes often make the biggest difference. Sometimes all that is needed is a fresh perspective on existing pieces.
Colour is one of the most effective and economical ways to transform the feel or mood of a room. Soft blues and greens

create calm, warm neutrals bring balance, while earthy tones like terracotta and ochre add comfort and grounding.
A full repaint is not needed – refreshing an accent wall or repainting furniture in a complementary shade can completely change the space. Quality paint like Dulux Luxurious Silk delivers colour consistency plus practical benefits such as moisture resistance and washability, making it perfect for kitchens and bathrooms.
Good lighting amplifies the impact of colour choices and brings an entire scheme together. Warm LED bulbs create an inviting atmosphere, while dimmable options allow customers to adjust the mood from morning to evening. Layered lighting through floor and table lamps adds dimension, and improved mirror or vanity lighting can transform bathrooms into spa-like retreats.
A truly refreshed home balances aesthetics with function. Practical additions like baskets and floating shelves support order while adding style. Patterned textiles add visual interest, and carefully styled surfaces – from bedside tables to kitchen counters help the space feel both polished and liveable. These touches create an environment that feels expressive,

intentional, and functional.
The home your customers envision does not require a construction crew or a renovation budget – it requires creativity and intention. With colour as the foundation, thoughtful styling as the framework, and lighting as the finishing touch, customers can craft a space that feels distinctly theirs. Every room holds untapped potential; the question isn’t whether the home can change, but which room will be transformed first.
// A truly refreshed home balances aesthetics with function. Practical additions and patterned textiles add visual interest. These touches create an environment that feels expressive //

The way customers shop for products has changed dramatically over the past decade, with the rapid rise of AI accelerating the transformation even further.
Whether the final purchase happens online or in-store, today’s customers increasingly begin their buying journey digitally. Some stats even suggest that up to 80% of South Africans start their buying online. They research products, compare specifications, check pricing, assess availability, and make purchasing decisions long before they step into a store.
For hardware retailers and general dealers, this shift presents both an opportunity and a challenge.
Everyone understands where consumers are, but how to get to them is another question entirely. While ecommerce offers new avenues for growth, building and maintaining a high-quality online product catalogue requires significant investment in product content, data management, merchandising, and ongoing administration. For many retailers, this can become a major barrier to digital growth.
Agrinet understands this challenge well. Over the years, the company has invested significantly in digital commerce, developing one of South Africa's leading B2B ecommerce channels and earning industry recognition for its achievements. These investments have resulted in a sophisticated online trading platform and a comprehensive ecommerce-ready product catalogue that supports seamless digital transactions.
As ecommerce adoption accelerated across the hardware industry, many customers began asking a simple question: “Can Agrinet help us do the same?” The answer was yes.
In 2024, Agrinet launched Agrinet API Services, extending its ecommerce expertise

and digital catalogue capabilities directly to customers looking to accelerate their own digital growth.
Today, retailers can gain digital access to approximately 15 000 product records, including product descriptions, images, specifications, measurements, pricing information, promotional pricing, and stock availability updates throughout the day.
The impact has been significant.
Retailers can rapidly expand their online catalogues, reduce onboarding times, improve product content quality, and dramatically reduce the manual effort needed to manage thousands of products online.
Instead of spending months sourcing images, writing descriptions, maintaining pricing, and updating product information manually, businesses can focus on what matters most — serving customers, increasing sales, and growing their market share.
Several leading independent hardware retailers have already leveraged Agrinet’s digital catalogue capabilities to strengthen their ecommerce offering and accelerate their digital journeys.
PRODUCT EXPERIENCE: THE NEW COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
As ecommerce continues to mature, product information is no longer simply operational data.
It has become a critical component of the customer experience.
Every product image, specification, measurement, description, price point, and availability update contributes to a customer’s confidence in making a purchase decision.
In many ways, product data has become the new form of digital merchandising.
Just as merchandising influences customer behaviour in a physical store, product experience influences customer behaviour online.
Retailers that invest in rich product content, discoverability, and online merchandising are better positioned to improve customer confidence, increase conversion, and drive sustainable growth.
“The future of hardware retail isn’t just about selling products online. It’s about creating exceptional product experiences that help customers discover, compare, and purchase with confidence. Retailers who
invest in digital merchandising and product experience today will be the ones driving growth tomorrow.”– Alichia Mentz, marketing and eCommerce manager, Agrinet
Agrinet’s API Services represent more than a technology solution.
They reflect a broader evolution in how Agrinet supports its customers.
Agrinet is committed to becoming a more integrated partner in customer success. Its focus is on driving growth together with its clients.
While product supply remains fundamental, the focus increasingly extends to helping customers improve sell-through, strengthen market share, create better customer experiences, and unlock new opportunities for sustainable growth.
Whether through category expertise, own brands, merchandising support, ecommerce enablement, or digital solutions such as Agrinet API Services, the objective remains the same: helping customers build stronger, more competitive businesses.
The most successful hardware retailers of the future will be those that combine trusted supplier partnerships, strong product offerings, exceptional customer experiences, and digital capability. Keeping up with the trends and how your consumers are shopping is essential.
As customer expectations continue to evolve, retailers need partners who can contribute not only products, but also expertise, insights, and tools that support long-term success.
Agrinet believes growth is strongest when it is shared.
By helping customers improve their digital capabilities, enhance product experiences, and compete more effectively in an increasingly connected marketplace, Agrinet is helping drive growth together.

Because they are warm, durable, and never really go out of style, timber floors continue to be a go-to choice in modern interiors. For hardware retailers, they also offer more than a once-off sale.
With the right finishing system, there is a real opportunity to build basket value.
Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR Interior
Wood Sealer, available in Matt/Gloss, Clear as well as Matt/Gloss, White, gives retailers a flexible, easy-to-sell solution that ticks both performance and aesthetic boxes. Its low-odour-, water-borne formulation appeals to modern consumers seeking convenience and durability.
A good finish is only as good as the prep work behind it. This is something retail staff should be reinforcing with every customer. Floors need to be properly sanded to remove old coatings.
Once sanding is done, it is important to get rid of all the dust – vacuum thoroughly, then wipe down with a cloth lightly dampened with methylated spirits. It is a simple step, but it makes a big difference to how well the product performs.
From a retail point of view, this is also where the add-on sales begin. Abrasives e.g. sanding paper and Woodoc Sanding Pads, as well as sanding equipment should sit right next to the sealer on the shelf. It is practical while also encouraging customers to buy everything they need in one go.
Woodoc’s Water-Borne FLOOR Interior
Wood Sealer is available in both Matt and Gloss, each in Clear and White. That gives customers the choice to either enhance the natural look of the timber or go for a more contemporary white or white-washed finish.

Gloss will give a more reflective, polished look, while Matt offers a softer, more understated finish. That said, it is worth pointing out to customers that Matt is not completely flat. Once the product builds up on the surface, there is still a slight sheen that remains visible under certain lighting conditions and angles. Over time and with wear, this settles down.
Managing that expectation upfront can prevent misunderstandings later.
One of the strongest advantages of this system is that it works with Woodoc Colours. These can be stirred into the sealer to create a wide range of shades – from subtle wood tones to bolder decorative finishes.
For retailers, this is an easy add-on sale. Merchandising the Woodoc Colours alongside the clear sealer opens the door to a more customised solution, whether the customer is after a feature floor, stencilled design, or a full surface colour treatment.

Application itself is straightforward, but the details matter. Always remind customers to follow the instructions on the product container, as these are tailored to achieve optimal performance.
Before starting, the sealer should be stirred well with a flat paddle or spatula to get an even consistency. It sounds obvious, but using the wrong tool (like whatever was used to open the lid) often leads to poor mixing.
Apply evenly with a good-quality brush, working with the grain. Three proper coats are required to create a durable finish that can withstand regular foot traffic.
Done properly, the result is a tough waterborne finish that protects the floor while still showing off the timber underneath.
This is not a single product; it is a complete finishing system. From prep to colour to final coat, every step creates an opportunity to add value to the sale.
For DIY and Industrial Trade News readers, the takeaway is simple: product knowledge, combined with smart merchandising will drive repeatable sales.

Waterproofing is one of the most practical, and often overlooked, investments homeowners can make to protect their properties. From leaking roofs to weather-worn concrete surfaces, unchecked water ingress can lead to costly structural damage, mould growth, and ongoing maintenance headaches.
The good news is that modern solutions have made effective waterproofing more accessible than ever for the DIY market, especially with trusted systems from Sika, the waterproofing experts.
Sikalastic® -560 is a prime example of this professional-grade technology suitable for residential use. It is a liquidapplied waterproofing membrane designed to create a seamless, flexible barrier that prevents water penetration. As demonstrated in Sika’s ‘how-to’ guidance, the process follows key principles: thorough surface preparation, correct application techniques, and proper curing. Applied by brush, roller, or spray, the product forms a durable, UV-resistant coating that protects exposed areas such as roofs and exterior concrete surfaces. Its seamless finish is particularly effective, eliminating joints and overlaps where water would typically find its way in.
That said, Sikalastic-560 is a specialised waterproofing solution, not simply a ‘quick fix’. While it is available to the DIY market, achieving the intended performance depends on careful attention to detail and adherence to technical guidelines. Homeowners are strongly encouraged to consult the official product data sheet on Sika’s website

before starting any project, ensuring correct preparation, coverage, and application conditions. For more complex applications, or where there is any uncertainty, working with a trusted, experienced applicator
// Unchecked water ingress can lead to costly structural damage, mould growth, and ongoing maintenance headaches //

remains the best approach.
Once applied, Sikalastic-560 creates a tough, UV-resistant layer that accommodates natural building movement, making it particularly effective for exposed surfaces such as roofs and exterior concrete surfaces. Areas such as balconies, particularly those exposed to regular foot traffic, typically require waterproofing systems installed beneath tiles or protective finishes. Selecting the correct system for each environment is critical, and this is where Sika’s expertise provides real value.

IF YOU’RE BUILDING, FIXING OR RENOVATING, TRUST THE BRAND THE PROFESSIONALS RELY ON
Providing long-lasting systems to waterproof and protect structures from basement to roof.

The true strength of Sikalastic-560 lies in bringing world-class waterproofing technology into the home. The same innovation, trusted to protect major infrastructure and commercial buildings, can now be used to safeguard residential spaces.
With Sika’s proven track record and technical leadership, Sikalastic-560 represents more than just convenience, it represents confidence. Whether applied by a knowledgeable DIY user or a qualified professional, it empowers homeowners with access to high-performance waterproofing solutions designed to stand the test of time.

Since opening its doors in 1976, the company has grown from a local tile producer into one of the country’s best-known names in the industry.
Reaching this milestone says a great deal about the business and the people behind it. Over five decades, Ceramic Industries has continued to invest in local manufacturing, modern production methods, and products suited to the needs of the South African market. In an industry where trends, technologies, and customer expectations constantly change, the company has managed to stay relevant by focusing on quality products that retailers, contractors, and homeowners can rely on.
Today, Ceramic Industries operates across seven manufacturing sites, each contributing
to a broad product offering. Gryphon produces premium rectified porcelain tiles, Pegasus focuses on affordable ceramic ranges, while Vitro offers African-inspired red-body porcelain products in various formats. Samca Plus is home to Southern Africa’s only Continua production line, and Samca Wall manufactures practical, on-trend wall tiles. Betta Sanware remains the country’s only local producer of affordable sanware, while Betta Baths offers a range of bath solutions from standard drop-in baths to freestanding designs.
// Today, Ceramic Industries operates across seven manufacturing sites //

For hardware and building material retailers, this strong local manufacturing base offers important advantages. Consistent supply, products developed for local conditions and trusted after-sales support remain key factors in today’s competitive market. Ceramic Industries has built long-standing relationships with retailers and distributors by understanding what works on South African shelves and in South African homes.
Curated

The company’s contribution also extends beyond manufacturing. Through bursaries, training initiatives, educational support, and community projects, Ceramic Industries continues to invest in the areas where it operates and in the people who help drive the business forward.
For 50 years, Ceramic Industries has played a part in South African homes, building projects, and retail spaces through locally manufactured tiles, bathroomware, and bath solutions.
Much of the company’s success has come from the experience and commitment of its workforce. Many employees have spent years growing alongside the business, helping build the reputation for dependable products and service that the company enjoys today.
Reaching 50 years is an important achievement in any manufacturing sector. It reflects the trust of customers, the support of business partners, and the value of producing quality products locally.
As Ceramic Industries looks to the future, the focus remains on continuing to manufacture locally, developing products for changing markets, and supporting the retail and construction sectors that have formed part of its journey from the beginning.
Five decades on, Ceramic Industries stays a strong example of what South African manufacturing can achieve through consistency, investment, and a long-term commitment to the local market.

BEST CROSS BORDER PERFORMER

SALES MVP - THE ACADEMY STAR PERFORMER:
Bees are a symbol of teamwork, tenacity, and collective success. They work together to build, grow, and sustain the hive. It was this spirit of shared achievement that inspired the theme for this year’s Build it National Awards Gala Dinner, held at the Maslow Time Square Hotel, in Pretoria.

Building on last year’s ‘40 for Better’ theme, the 2026 event celebrated the partnerships, dedication and combined efforts that continue to drive the Group forward.
‘Buzzing’ with energy and appreciation, the evening focused on strengthening relationships and recognising the people who contribute to the ongoing success of the Build it network.
From the onset, the bee theme was carried through every touchpoint, from the WhatsApp group build-up with ‘Honey, are you ready?’ to ‘a buzzworthy event’ and a

‘sweet line-up for a golden evening’. The momentum continued with ‘ride the Buzz’ and ‘a hive five for our winners’,’ creating a playful narrative throughout. The tone remained consistent and intentional: ‘Bee Better’ and celebrate together.
The evening opened with pre-drinks on the stunning pool deck at the Maslow Time Square Hotel, before guests moved into the Diamond Room for the gala dinner and awards ceremony.
The MC for the evening was Jo-Ann Strauss, who opened the night with a playful

‘bee’ themed dance performance and set the tone for the evening.
"Excellence is your Nectar" became the guiding line for the National Awards. Build it MD Hawie du Preez took to the stage to officially launch the "Bee Better" theme, reinforcing the message of collective growth and recognition. Even the menu followed the narrative.
• The First Buzz
• Queen Bee’s Feast
• The Nectar Bar.
Proceedings began with a moment of silence in remembrance of Wilma Wessels, owner of Build it Ackermans, who passed away on 10 May.
Du Preez then acknowledged Reeza Isaacs, CEO of the SPAR Group, Sundeep Naran and Lwazi Koyana, both Independent non-executive directors of the SPAR Group, the National Guild directors, regional committees, Build it executives, suppliers, special guests, and award winners.

World saw blade leaders, MPS Sägen has in essence reinvented the jigsaw blade with its revolutionary new Germanengineered Double Clean 3161 and 3162 blades. Developed by MPS to deliver optimal results, these innovative patented world-first MPS blades set new standards in splinter-free jigsaw cutting.
MPS Double Clean saw blades are the ideal carpentry solution in preparing countertops and similar coated materials like Formica or melamine. MPS Double Clean blades deliver clean, damage and splinterfree 180-degree cuts from both the top and bottom. Most significantly, however, they do
so without the need to mask the surface to be cut.
The extra-long 132mm MPS Double Clean 3161 blade has a 110mm cutting length to tackle even the most demanding applications. The shorter but more manoeuvrable 100mm long, 75mm cutting length 3162 blade is best used on thinner materials and general panel sizes to achieve tighter cutting curves. Made from high-alloy chromevanadium steel with teeth radially arranged to the centre of the blade for the perfect cut, MPS Double Clean blades deliver outstanding jig sawing performance, no matter what the job.
