tranded couple Peter and Pat Good ended up in a bad situation when they were hit by the collapse of travel firm XL Leisure. The pair turned up at Manchester Airport unaware that the holiday they’d booked was operated by the ill-fated firm – which had gone bust just days before the start of their break to Rhodes. But holiday firm Christian Guild stepped in to save the couple a sad return journey to their Lincolnshire home when it offered them a break at its Lindors Hotel in the Wye Valley. Mr Good said: “We couldn’t believe it. We set off at 2am to get to the airport, only to find that the holiday was being operated by XL and it had gone bust. It hadn’t been booked through them so we didn’t know they were due to fly us out. “We spoke to our daughter who suggested we contact Christian Guild and they came up trumps. They recognised our problem and were only too willing to help out. We had a great time with Christian Guild. Their warm and friendly approach and their determination to help saved our holiday; it turned a disaster into a great break. Lindors was just what we needed.” Kevin Mantle, Managing Director of Christian Guild, said: “When we heard about the unfortunate circumstances Mr and Mrs Good found themselves in, we were only too happy to step in and help. Marooned on a Desert Island? What is a Package Holiday? Years of legal argument, a Court of Appeal judgement and an 11-page government guidance document, has left the UK travel industry, to say nothing of the travelling public, hardly the wiser.
