New Hall School Careers Programme – Years 10, 11 Intent: The Careers Programme for students in Years 10 and 11 intends to build on previous learning, further enhance self-awareness, develop an understanding of the skills and knowledge employers look for when recruiting staff and prepare them for the world of work. Implementation: Students will complete dedicated Careers lessons through the PSHEE programme and these will be supported by careers learning delivered in lessons linking careers to the curriculum, visiting speakers and co-curricular activities, including Mock Interview Day and Work Experience. Impact: Students will be more aware of their own skills, how they link to future careers in the modern labour market, and will feel confident in choosing their GCSE options, applying for jobs and entering the world of work. Content 1 – My Career Journey Students identify the career values that are important to them and draw connections between their past, present, and future in relation to their career.

2 and 3 – CV Writing Students discuss the contents of CVs and why they are important. Students will compare different CVs and write their own CV in preparation for Year 10 Mock Interview Day.

4 – Work Experience Preparation Students will learn what is appropriate in the workplace, what is expected of them and what they should expect from their work experience employer in preparation for Work Experience Day.

5 – Social Media and Personal Branding Students define the concept of a personal brand and discuss the importance of seeking feedback on a CV and how an online profile can help recruitment.

6 – Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace Students have a talk on the topic of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace and what this means for them.

Mock Interview Day
Students have a one-to-one interview with a business volunteer from the local business community, New Hall Alumni Association or from the parent community.
Work Experience
Students will be encouraged to undertake an “Experience of the Workplace” Day designed to help them explore career opportunities, expand their network and gain an understanding of workplace culture.
Employer Talks Subject Based Lessons Assemblies
Programme of lunchtime employer talks available for students to sign up to. All students must attend at least one talk per year and record their attendance on Unifrog. All subjects deliver career-related activities to highlight how their subject links to future pathways and skills development.

3 – Exploring Opportunities to Develop Skills and Experience and Evaluation of Skills Students explore volunteering opportunities and paid work to research how different opportunities can help them to develop skills and experience that will be of benefit to them in the future.

It allows students to apply and demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have developed, while gaining valuable insight into the world of work.
