The New Craftsman Gallery, St Ives, present a new collection of works by St Ives painter Emma Jeffryes. Emma has invested long hours of ‘absolute sea gazing’ from her studio at Crab Rock, spending days at a time completely absorbed by the ever changing tides, weather and ocean wave patterns of St Ives bay. Drawing on a palette of rich coastal colours, Jeffryes’ works record the temperamental beauty of the rolling sea, and lead us across tranquil low tide sands, beneath clear blue skies and between the volumous hulls of bright fishing boats in St Ives harbour. Other works are inspired by the 2014 Falmouth Tall Ships Regatta Parade of Sail. Documenting one long, hot day in August when thousands gathered to see the world’s most spectacular ships sail serenely along the coast and out to the open sea, Jeffryes’ naively beautiful paintings capture the drama and grandeur of this unique event.
