Painting directly from life, Emma Jeffryes has used her talent with colour in this new collection for 2020 to express the joyfulness and beauty of the Cornish coastline in summer, with its bright umbrellas, dazzling waters, wildflowers and rich green palms. Figures, flowers and boats bring life to these deliberately pretty paintings, in which the summer rhythms of life in St Ives are framed against the simple shapes of sky, sea and sand. In addition, time spent painting in The Lighthouse Apartment at Crab Rock, located precisely on the water’s edge, has inspired works which capture the drama and colour of the harbour in winter.
