ByHANKWIESNER SpecialtotheGazette According to information provided by Circuit Clerk Donna Treadaway’s office, the following guilty pleas were entered duringthethree-weekJune2025 term of Union County Circuit Court which began Monday, June 2, at 9 a.m. in the Union CountyCourthouse.Onejurytrialwasheld. Following that trial, Arthur Eurek, in his mid-20s of New Albany, was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of capital murder in connection with the death of a seven-week-old child in April, 2023,accordingtocourtrecords. Immediately following conviction, Presiding Judge John KellyLutherofRipleysentenced Eurek to life in prison without possibilityofparole. The infant, whose name was Ryker Burns, was originally taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-UnionCountybyambulance Saturday, April 22, 2023, and later transferred to Le Bonheur Children’sHospitalinMemphis, Tenn., where he died Sunday, April30,2023. Doctors said at the time the seven-week-old child had sustained severe head and body trauma and told authorities he was unresponsive when he was broughttoLeBonheur.
