DEAN STEWARD

Hi everyone and welcome to our first newsletter. This is something we’re going to be experimenting with by way of keeping you all up to date with the latest news during the summer, and probably with a monthly edition during the coming season.

Today we are in Lincoln to take on Lincoln Griffins, who we played a couple of weeks ago. Our last meeting provided plenty of goals and a valuable three points.

Looking back to our last game against Lincoln Development in the league cup semi final, this proved to be a proud moment for everyone connected to the club

Being three up in seven minutes against the league leaders was nothing short of extraordinary and although Lincoln Development pulled a couple back, a fourth goal before half time secured a fantastic win.

We can now look forward to a cup final against Ruston on May 4th at Grimsby.

Today we look to secure another three points and at least a point in our final game against Boston Town will ensure a second place finish in the league, which will be quite an achievement after all our injury woes throughout the season.

If you are traveling to Lincoln have a safe journey and thanks again for your support.

NORTHANTS

AND GIRLS

Lincoln United Development arrived as league leaders, looking to advance to the final of the league cup.

Netherton, sitting third in the table, arrived at this game on the back of a 19-0 win over Lincoln Griffins in their previous game.

Both sides held a win and a defeat from the two previous league meetings, so something had to give, with either a win for one team in ninety minutes or the prospect of penalty kicks.

Netherton kicked off and won a throwin deep into the Lincoln half. Cassie took the throw and hurled it into the eighteen yard box, where Katie Steward held off a challenge and slipped the ball past the

advancing keeper within two minutes of the kick-off.

This was the dream start the home club wanted and it took just two further minutes for Cassie to extend the lead.

A free kick was awarded some thirty yards from goal. Cassie hit the ball high and true and the ball sailed into the top corner of the net.

With everyone expecting a response from the Lincoln team the opposite arrived with a further goal for the home side.

Katie S collected the ball, laid it back to Cassie. She then fed Katie again who had made a run into the area and the net rippled.

CASSIE’S STRIKE HITS

Lincoln did find a response and this would arrive on nineteen minutes, a ball hit towards the home goal was initially saved by Lauren, but the rebound fell kindly to the Development forward who reduced the deficit by one.

Lincoln’s second was scored on twenty three minutes. A corner was taken and as the ball bobbled around a fine strike once again from a Development player made the first half a close and interesting spectacle.

The next goal, if there was to be one, would either complete a great come back from the visitors or, widen the gap once more.

The answer to this was the gap would increase. Lauren’s kick was picked up by Cassie who turned and put a great ball through to JP, who still had a lot to do.

The visiting keeper ran towards JP on the edge of the area, a side step from our leading scorer and an open goal in front of her, there was never a doubt what would happen!

Half time arrived with a 4-2 scoreline.

The second half saw Netherton camped in the opposition half for extended periods of time but there would be a major alteration to the match with some fifteen minutes left on the clock.

Larry went into a tackle and as the player fell to the floor she kicked out at Larry who responded with a push. The referee consulted with the assistant referee and Larry received a straight red card.

There was still time for a Lincoln player to be sent off but with an alteration to the

formation and a couple of late substitutions Netherton held out and took their place in the final.

This will be against Ruston Sports in Grimsby on May 4th (15.30 kick off.)

As we stand, it looks highly likely that Lincoln United Development will secure the title, but they have one game left and need a win against Boston United to be sure.

Rest assured that if they do drop points, we’ll be looking to do everything to close the gap, and the goal difference, to take the title from them.
