FROM THE COACH Across the board, everyone stepped up to another level and did their job for the team and that’s all you can ask for. We had to respond and show up and I was very proud of the collective effort of the team. It could very well become a season defining performance.

Dan Ryan

Head Coach WEST COAST FEVER It’s First Nations round and we have three games to go in the home and away season, before the finals series gets underway. There is a real log jam from 3rd to 8th on the ladder and so much can change between now and the end of the season. There is so much to play for, and every single game is crucial. Round 11 was one to remember. Not only was the 9-goal win over the Giants the perfect birthday present (and thank you for the wonderful rendition of happy birthday and for the cake), it was the perfect response to the Vixens loss just five days prior. It was so good to see us attack the game from the start and stamp our dominance on the contest early. The way our extended squad member, Shannon Eagland, slotted into our starting line-up at WD with Sunday Aryang being ruled out with Covid at late notice, was just incredible. It was one of the best games I’ve seen her play.

Our focus now shifts to Round 12 and our battle with the dangerous and unpredictable Queensland Firebirds tonight. The last time we met was back in Round 3 in Brisbane and it was one of our best performances of the season. We went from 2 goals down at half time to 7 goals up at the final change, then went on to win the game by 8 goals. I’d like to welcome Firebirds coach, Megan Anderson, and their Captain Kim Ravaillion back to Perth. A special ‘welcome home’ to Donnell Wallam who will play her first SSN game in her hometown. It’s also a very special night for Nelle and for Jemma Mimi too, as we celebrate First Nations round in SSN. So GREEN ARMY, it’s time to turn RAC Arena into the ‘Fever Fortress’ again tonight. Let’s come together and celebrate First Nations round and all our wonderful athletes on display tonight.

Go Fever!

FIRST NATIONS ROUND 6pm SATURDAY 28 MAY 2022 • RAC ARENA LIVE ON Foxtel, Kayo and Kayo Freebies

MATCH PREVIEW

THE SITUATION

West Coast Fever and the Queensland Firebirds will meet on Whadjuk Country for First Nations Round at RAC Arena to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s round focuses on raising awareness, celebrating and understanding the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to netball and the nation. Fever will enter the contest following a record-breaking win over the Giants last weekend, where they scored the highest ever team score of 86 in a 9-goal win. Firebirds are looking to snap a four-game losing streak and keep their hopes of a topfour finish alive.

MOMENTS TO WATCH

Both teams will be wearing unique dresses designed by First Nations artists. West Coast Fever’s dress design was created by Noongar artists Peter Farmer and Kylie Graham and features Aboriginal women’s symbols to represent each member of the playing squad alongside a series of significant waterholes in Whadjuk Country. The Firebirds dress features artwork by Rachael Sarra, a contemporary artist from Goreng Goreng Country and highlights that it is the strength in diversity of our communities and generations that fuels unity, maintaining balance and harmony on and off the court.
