A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Welcome to the 2021 Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League Grand Final and congratulations to the teams, umpires and officials set to participate across the three divisions. Special mention to Warriors and Roar on qualifying in both the Open and Men’s Grand Finals, and well done to Rangers and Sharks on reaching the 20U decider with their teams of rising stars. Thank you to all the GIG WANL clubs, umpires, officials and volunteers for their commitment and hard work to ensure that the 2021 GIG WANL season could proceed during another year disrupted by COVID. The extra effort from everyone to accommodate changes to times, dates and fixtures while following evolving health advice has been greatly appreciated and allowed the season to continue while also ensuring the wellbeing of our participants and the wider community. This year’s GIG WANL season saw games not only played at the Gold Netball Centre but also Curtin University, Eaton, Lesmurdie, Mandurah, Mundaring, Willetton and the Wheatbelt town of Pingelly as part of the State Government’s Country Sport Enrichment Scheme. Overall, it has been a competitive season with some exciting talent on display across all three grades. I look forward to seeing more highly skilled matches during the GIG WANL Grand Final and wish all the competing teams the best of luck. Finally, a huge thank you to WANL Naming Rights Partner the Gold Industry Group for their ongoing support of the competition and netball in Western Australia. Their commitment to our sport is vital to its continued sustainability and success.

However, they are up for a challenge as Roar will be ready to match their confidence, after a 38-point win over Jets in the Preliminary Final last week.
Last time Roar and Warriors battled it out on the netball court was Round 10, where Roar maintained the lead for the first two quarters before Warriors made a sensational comeback after half-time. Both teams have proven throughout the season that they have such a strong skillset across their teams that multiple combinations can be used depending on what strategies their opponents utilise.
From the Captains Steph Cooper (Warriors) “There’s a lot of excitement around the team, obviously there’s nerves, but quite a few of us know the process and have done it before so we’re really, really excited. “At the end of the day we’re just going out focussing on the one game, but it would be extremely great if we could get the three-peat. “I think we just need to play our game, sometimes you can get caught up in the whole finals, but I think if we just settle and go through our processes we should be fine.” Maddi Shultz (Roar) “We’re feeling really good. The girls are really confident, I think we just need to keep the momentum going and have faith in ourselves and believe that we can do it. “We had a few ups and downs throughout the season but I think that’s got us to where we are now.

West Coast Fever stars donate their 2021 Indigenous Round Dresses Shooting Stars’ Ambassadors and West Coast Fever athletes, Courtney Bruce, Verity Charles and Jhaniele Fowler have donated their 2021 Indigenous Round dresses to help support Aboriginal girls and women in regional and remote communities. Designed by Noongar artists, Peter Farmer and Kylie Graham, the signed Indigenous dresses have been framed and are available to bid on via an online auction with funds raised going towards a cultural reward camp for Shooting Stars participants. The Suncorp Super Netball Indigenous Round saw West Coast Fever take out a thrilling one-goal win against the Giants in front of a WA home crowd. The dress features seven circular symbols representing the seven players on the court gathering or coming together and the unpredictable path water weaves throughout the landscape.
Shooting Stars has enjoyed the support of its West Coast Fever Ambassadors since 2016, providing great role models for Shooting Stars participants inspiring them to aim high and chase their dreams.
