Baton Rouge is a city defined by its energy, character, and deep-rooted sense of community. This year, we are proud to present the second edition of Best of Baton Rouge, continuing a celebration of what makes this region truly exceptional.

Building on the success of our inaugural year, the response from the community has been nothing short of incredible. Over 410,000 votes were cast, a 74 percent increase year over year, highlighting the businesses, organizations, and individuals that define Baton Rouge and the surrounding area.

With more than 3,500 businesses vying for recognition across 11 main categories, including Eat & Drink, Education, Finance, Health & Beauty, Home & Garden, Law, Motors, Real Estate, Services, Shopping, and Things to Do, the competition remained fierce. The 621 winners of Best of Baton Rouge represent the businesses and organizations that have earned the trust and support of both locals and visitors. From preventative care to same-day sick visits, the Central location supports children from infancy through adolescence.

As one of three locations within its broader network, Pediatrics at Central was established to meet a specific need: providing dedicated pediatric care to the growing community. The office represents the third addition to existing practices at Juban Crossing in Denham Springs and Delmont Village in Baton Rouge, and it stands as the first and only sole pediatric practice in Central.

Briana Mayo, pediatric nurse practitioner at the clinic, said the decision to open the location was rooted in the area’s development and the need for accessible, specialized care close to home.

From the moment families walk through the doors, the Central office reflects a mission centered on improving the health and well-being of both patients and parents.

“We built the layout of the clinic to keep sick and

well children completely separate,” Briana said. She noted how this successfully minimizes exposure and creates an overall smoother flow throughout the spaces.

The environment is crafted to ease anxiety and spark imagination. A large waiting room greets visitors with suspended hot air balloons, a vintage airplane light, and wallpaper featuring jungle scenes and aircraft in the sky.

Behind that space is the separate well-visit waiting area decorated with a New York City theme, complete with taxi cabs and Central Park imagery. Each exam room carries its own personality. Children may find themselves in an LSU Tiger Stadiumthemed space, a sports-themed room with neon basketball and football lights, or a Marvelinspired room featuring a glowing Spider-Man light.

Other designs include underthe-sea decor with bubbles suspended from the ceiling,

a princess room, fishing and truck themes, and a bookthemed room with playful wallpaper designed to make children smile. Shelves stocked with easy-to-clean books and wipeable toys help keep young patients engaged while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

The Central location offers a comprehensive range of services that support children from infancy through adolescence. These include well visits, immunizations, sports physicals, same-day sick visits, ADHD and anxiety/ depression evaluations and treatments, autism screenings, and in-office lab testing for flu, RSV, COVID-19, strep, mono, urinalysis, lead, and anemia.

Preventative care plays a foundational role in the clinic’s approach. “We give our patients a schedule of all well preventative care visits that are due, and at each visit the patient gets a developmental peds assessment tool to screen for motor skills, speech skills, and behavioral concerns,” Briana said.

Communication with families is another cornerstone of care. Well-visit cards provide age-appropriate milestone information, along with personalized details such as height, weight, growth chart percentiles, and weight-based Tylenol and Motrin dosing guidelines. The goal is to ensure parents leave each visit feeling informed and confident in their child’s care plan.

The team at Central brings 60 years of

combined pediatric experience. Providers share office space, allowing them to collaborate closely and consult one another on treatment plans when needed.

Accessibility is also a priority. The clinic offers same-day sick scheduling, evening appointments, and 24-hour on-call phone availability for emergencies, helping accommodate busy families.

According to Briana, the feedback from families is consistent. “The cleanliness and flow of the clinic, the expertise of the providers, and the smiles and warmth from the staff are what we hear about most,” she said.
